This is a successful mashup of Cinderella and Pride and Prejudice. There's just enough of both stories to satisfy both those who prefer the fairy tale and those who prefer the Jane Austen classic.

The mother of Jane and Elizabeth Bennet died when they were quite young, and Mr. Bennet remarried and had three other daughters (Mary, Kitty and Lydia) with his second wife, Adelaide. Mr. Bennet subsequently died. Although Mr. Collins has taken ownership of Longbourn, he allows the Bennet women to continue to reside there, and Adelaide easily manipulates him. Jane and Elizabeth must work as servants or face becoming homeless, which Adelaide threatens regularly. The second Mrs. Bennet is obsessed with getting her own daughters married rather than their older half-sisters.

Elizabeth is convinced that Jane, with her beauty and sweet nature, can surely find a husband despite their stepmother's sabotage. Once her sister is safely married, Elizabeth is eager to get away from Longbourn, certain that she herself will never marry and equally certain that she is capable of making her own way in the world.

Prince Darcy shows up at Netherfield to track Wickham, who is believed to have stolen a magical ring belonging to the Darcy family. Due to the nature of his mission, he presents himself to local society as Mr. Williams with only the Bingleys and Hursts aware of his true identity. Naturally, he and Elizabeth get off to a rocky start. Darcy even wonders if she might be in league with Wickham.

Interestingly, she is not impressed by Mr. Wickham and recognizes that he poses a threat to her family. If he tempts the flirtatious Lydia into a scandal, it will ruin Jane's chances to marry. Since Elizabeth also recognizes the animosity between Wickham and Mr. Williams, she acts on the adage "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

The story goes on from there with unpredictable twists and turns. Elizabeth finds herself making an agreement with her stepmother that could prevent her eventual escape from Longbourn. No glass slipper, but the Darcy ring serves as an excellent substitute. Even though there's not exactly a fairy godmother, there is a ghostly appearance as well as a bit of potion-making and magic in the story. And, naturally, there's romance.

The characters generally behave like those in Pride and Prejudice, though Adelaide is more calculating and intentionally unpleasant than P&P's Mrs. Bennet. Lydia, Kitty and Mary are kinder to their older half-sisters than their mother, so the sisterly bond among the five isn't that different from the original. Mary isn't obsessed with Fordyce's Sermons; instead there's a book of spells that she studies extensively. But is she using it for good or for evil?

It's thoroughly entertaining and well written. Content is clean.

Darcy, a Prince in Derbyshire, travels under the name Mr. Williams to Hertfordshire in his quest to regain a ring stolen by Wickham and which is absolutely necessary for the continuance of the Darcy line. Every bride of the prince has worn that ring which then cannot be removed until death and which connects her to all the brides past and future.

There are elements of magic, blood oaths, visions and also the use of herbs and spells which play important parts in this story.

Mr. Bennet has had two daughters, Jane and Elizabeth, by his first marriage and the three more, Mary, Kitty and Lydia, by his second wife. When he dies Adelaide, becomes the "wicked" stepmother who abuses Jane and Elizabeth, overworking them and keeping them in threadbare clothing. When Bingley and Mr. Williams come to town along with the militia many events resemble canon.

Elizabeth resists her feelings for Darcy and is in denial that he might have any feelings for her. Even when a FMS comes about she is not letting down her defenses in her relationship with him. The community does not know who he is and neither does Elizabeth (at first) nor her family. Mary has a mysterious part and we are wondering if she is "good" or "evil". Mrs. Bennet/Adelaide demands a promise from Elizabeth that she will find husbands for all her sisters. This obsession on the part of Adelaide consumes her purpose in life and leads to a major problem later in the story. Here we read of Mary trying to intermediate by pointing out to Elizabeth how having 5 daughters to marry off can affect that mother figure.

This Elizabeth is very stubborn even to the points of insisting that she will remake an older gown to wear to a ball at Pemberley instead of allowing Darcy to buy her a new one...they are not married at this point. Elizabeth's point is that her family will not be seen as "using" Darcy for material gain.

One of my favorite parts is how Anne Darcy's spirit reveals to Elizabeth the true thoughts on the part of not only herself but Anne's (deceased) husband. Darcy is torn between the "marry for love"advice from his mother vs the "marry for duty and connections" advice from his father.

This was an interesting story which I enjoyed. I recommend it.

Wish the last 5 percent was epilogue, not advertising

Creative but completely AU fairy tale that isn't really JAFF, just uses the names and addresses. And there's a lot of magic and mystical happenings that are thrown in to fill gaps but never get explored or explained. Mostly I'm annoyed by the unfulfilling abruptness of how this story ends. You will be too and it pretty much ruins the entire effort.

Very cute. Loved the scene in the grove between ODC before E knows D is a prince.
She was a little too stubborn about not letting D purchase clothes for her and her family.

This is a Pride and Prejudice meets Cinderella style tale. Prince Darcy of Pemberley finds himself in Meryton, with his good friend Charles Bingley, looking for Wickham who has stolen the Darcy ring. This heirloom has been passed down from one Darcy bride to another and is more than a piece of jewellery. The prince hides his identity and is known as Mr Williams to the good people of Meryton. He is reserved and withdrawn from society generally - his focus only meant to be on finding Wickham - until he meets Elizabeth Bennet.

The Bennet family have fallen on harder times, Mrs Bennet died after leaving only Elizabeth and Jane when Mr Bennet remarried and he and his new wife had Mary, Kitty and Lydia - before Mr Bennet dies leaving the girls and their step mother in the care of Mr Collins.

This is a story with elements of witchcraft, and the supernatural but not as much as I expected. It's not a straight forward Cinderella story either - the elements are there but it is a story of its own. Mary's character is an interesting one, not one we often see.

I really enjoyed this book. It's really good fun and Darcy is really sweet and patient. As time progressed I found myself frustrated with Elizabeth at times - she questions whether Darcy really wants to marry her and her doubts and messing him about was just starting to annoy me when it gets addressed. Elizabeth's Step mother is constantly going on at Elizabeth about it being her responsibility to find husbands for her sisters. Although annoying, it is a necessary part of the tale. I found I enjoyed the first part of the book more than the second - as Elizabeth and Mr Williams are getting to know each other.

I love Pride and Prejudice and I love fairy tales so this us the perfect combination for me. It's an easy read, magical elements without this being the primary focus. I think overall I'd rate it 4.5 stars - Elizabeth's wobble in confidence went on a bit too long and there are some types too - mainly Bennet and Bennett, particularly in the first chapter. However, it's a good read and really enjoyable!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This Pride and Prejudice variation is set in a fantasy world where each of the regions of England are principalities with their own royalty. Darcy is the prince of Derbyshire while Hertforshire is a "free" state. Wickham has stolen a family heirloom that has been worn by every Darcy bride for centuries, so it must be found. Traveling incognito to Netherfield, Darcy finds Elizabeth Bennet and can't seem to stay away from her. The story treats the reader to the plot of Cinderella with the characters and personality of Pride and Prejudice. Together, with the help of some old magic, and leaps of faith are able to find their happily ever after.

This novel was not that charming but there was something about Mary that I don't like and I want to know what she is up too. Lizzy seemed out of character to me. I don't see her as this confidant-less woman that she was portrayed as in this book. Jane was just an even more weak character in this novel. This story was sort of lackluster for me and I'm not sure if I'm going to read the rest of the books in the series.

This was a well written and interesting interpretation of P&P, but I think it would have been better to just give everyone different names since it ventures quite a bit from the original story, both plot and character-wise, and that ends up being a negative distraction, which is a shame since the story itself is great.

This is a different version of pride and prejudice. A missing ring is in the middle of it all. He needs to get the ring back and he will need help but he did not expect it to be her. How will they get on? Will he find the ring? Will they even fall for each other? See how the hunt for the ring goes

Surprisingly enjoyable to read! Though Pride and Prejudice is a retell of The Glass Slipper, and it is fun to do a fairytale-like story, I have held off from reading this book for far too long. It was perfect, with some surprises. Some of it was exactly as I expected, but it was a well-written version of the old tale. Very glad I added it to my TBR pile for this year’s Goodreads challenge!

The story was interesting, but the ending was confusing and quite abrupt.
I felt, the villains and there roles were not very clear
It could have been much better, if the ending had been more elegant.
Elizabeth was also a bit too stubborn, too proud to accept clothes for herself and her family

A quite refreshing and different take on the pride and prejudice book though I think the author should have given them different names.

Prince Darcy of Derbyshire arrives in Hertfordshire to retrieve a ring that Wickham has stolen. A ring he needs to marry. There he encounters Elizabeth Bennet, one of two daughters from the first Mrs Bennet, with her three half sisters and stepmother. But Bennet is dead and Collins is in charge. It would have mean a more entertaining story to have Mary's character developed.
The story hints towards Cinderella but I found Elizabeth to be just too annoying.
Overall an enjoyable variation

I am a massive Jane Austen fan fiction Reader, so I'm always looking for new and interesting takes on my favorite story, Pride and Prejudice, and my favorite couple, Elizabeth and Darcy. I'm intrigued by ones where Darcy is a prince, so this book naturally piqued my interest. Unfortunately, I found the book to be extremely disappointing. The plot, as you might imagine from the description, varies widely from canon, but I don't usually mind this; I like stories that place ODC in new circumstances and see how they fare. This is definitely meant to be a blend of Pride and Prejudice and Cinderella placed in a fantasy setting. So while Meryton and Pemberley exist in this world, Derbyshire has princes and princesses. There are other principalities within England as well as unaffiliated areas. For me, I found it difficult to reconcile this fantasy version of England with what I'm so familiar with in canon and real life.

Both the story and the characterization fall so far from canon that I think the author would have actually done better just to make a completely new story not associated with Pride and Prejudice. The Elizabeth Bennet in this story just doesn't act like the Elizabeth Bennet that we know and love. I was immediately turned off from the book when it is stated early on that Elizabeth wants to slap her stepmother; that is so not Elizabeth Bennet! Her relationship with the servants is far too casual to feel believable. Other things the author has her say and do are so different that she is a wholly different character than Jane Austen’s creation, and not a completely likable one. I thought Darcy was a bit more stiff and unapproachable than even in canon. Jane was a weaker character, and even in her limited role, not like her character in canon. Part of the beauty of Jane’s character in the original is her unfailing kindness and ability to see the best in others; here, she is even sometimes cynical. These are just not the characters we know and love.

Some things that occurred in the story felt too modern, not of either the fantasy realm or the world of the typical Pride and Prejudice variation. There are also issues with grammar, punctuation, and usage. Since I was already not liking this story, this did grate on my nerves somewhat. If you enjoy Jane Austen fan fiction, I would suggest you look elsewhere for your next book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

A midnight rescue. Prince Darcy in disguise. A magical gem that marks Elizabeth as a Pemberley bride. . .
Prince Darcy of Pemberley did not expect to battle wits and join forces with Miss Elizabeth Bennet of Longbourn. But after a midnight encounter with the mysterious, fiery-eyed beauty leaves him intrigued and desiring to know her better, Darcy almost forgets why he has come in secret to Meryton.
But Elizabeth is far more than an alluring face and sharp mind. She may be the key to retrieving from a villainous thief the stolen Darcy sapphire—without the ring, Darcy cannot fulfill his duty to wed, or his promise to love.
A duty and promise he desires to keep, now more than ever. Especially when the consequences of their bargain sealed in blood places Elizabeth in ruin.
A daring rescue, a midnight ball, a mad dash through the forest from a dark enchantress . . .Prince Darcy is a sweet Pride & Prejudice variation with a Cinderella fairy tale twist. For readers who enjoy the verbal dance between Elizabeth and Darcy as well as an angst—but not adventure!—free romance. This is a standalone HEA and will be the first in a series of retellings.

This is a story with elements of witchcraft, and the supernatural and I can't wait to read more of them.
I really enjoyed the retelling of this story.
I enjoyed the characters and am intrigued to see where the other stories lead.
The story is very well written and flows along nicely.
Recommend reading.
