It's going to be one crazy weekend. Crazy enough to kill...
Everyone has always enjoyed the annual Halloween getaway at Roger's cabin, even if some of Roger's games are a little... strange. And this year, it's once again Roger's turn to pick the game they will play.
Roger wants everything to be perfect so he's put a great deal of thought into his scavenger hunt. After all, he loves Amy and he's determined to win her heart.
He's also determined to deal with Amy's fiance, Paul. Paul pretends that he and Amy were destined to be together. That Paul didn't steal Amy from him. That he and Paul are still best friends.
The meals, the campfires, the game, it's all part of Roger's revenge plot. Only he didn't plan on his secretary driving to the cabin and screwing everything up.
This was a short and fun read. This is the story of a man named Roger. Roger is very successful and rich thanks to his family’s business. Roger also has his eyes set on an old college friends fiancé. He decides to invite this old friend and his fiancé as well as others out to his cabin for some fun. I went in thinking this was a horror book and may even be classified as one. I would say it’s more thriller with a mild aspect of horror. Either way it had some unexpected twists and was fairly fast paced. I really enjoyed it .
This is essentially a thriller, about a dysfunctional man's idea of love and his plan to realize it at any cost. I liked the dark themes and the characters, but sometimes the prose felt overworded, the same events being told unnecessarily from different characters' perspectives. The result was that the story lagged a bit; it could have gone much faster, with a greater impact, were it cut down about 20 pages. I enjoyed the apparent rationality of the madman's thinking: it's not easy to decide if he's a genuine psychopathic monster, or just dysfunctional. The ending shows that there are definitely people whose mind is diseased, even though they are perfectly capable of surviving in the ordinary world. Arguably, though, it is only when love, or something like it, comes into play that the main character's insanity begins. Love complicates his perfect life. Perhaps "love" is the wrong word here, since the guy craves a woman's admiration, recognition, and close intimacy, blind to her own needs and priorities. In any case, this is a story worth reading and gives some excellent food for thought. Recommended.
Who doesn't like a good revenge story? Love and jealousy are fickle, huh? Can drive a man to bizarre lengths to win over the woman he wants. What's unique about this story is that they're all friends. Had been for years. They'd been celebrating Halloween at the same cabin for many years now. So would you really think your friend was out to get you? Or would you just think your friendship was kinda off? Not gonna lie. The word game in the blurb got me. I love sadistic games I guess. The ending made me LOL (in a good way)
