I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is the 5th installment of the "Off The Grid: FBI #5, that centers around a group of friends who bonded during their time in Quantico for their FBI training.
Diego is on a break and heads to Columbia after receiving a tip that his mother and brother, who he has not seen since he was 13 years old may be there. He is directed to a church to meet a priest who may have some answers for him, but he never gets the chance to talk to him as a gunman takes aim at the priest and injures others in the church. He escapes with a woman who spoke to the priest prior to the gunfire. They each share their reasons for coming to the church and decide to help one another, but they are not out of the woods as they're being followed and Diego is beginning to find clues that makes him question the initial tip. This is just the first couple chapters and the adrenaline spikes from there. Diego and Tara believe they are in danger and don't know why yet, but believe that the people looking for them is looking for something that they may have. They also discover that their individual quests are connected which heightens the threat they are running from.
Their search leads them back to the states where Diego's search is realized and is faced with the knowledge that he will need to make some painful decisions. The friends from books 1-4 to tie up the storyline that has threaded each story involving Vincent Rowland. The team work seamlessly to capture their foe who has exacted revenge on each of them as he blames them for his son's death.
The final chapters adds to the storyline of each friend and brings a spotlight on Flynn, who not from their group, but a friend and whose story will be told. I enjoyed this series and I highly recommend that all installments are read to get the detail of their bond and the hidden clues that lead to the ending of this installment. Can't wait for #6!!!

Dangerous Choice is book five in the Off The Grid: FBI series by Barbara Freethy. Diego Rivera wanted answers about the disappearance of his mother and brother when he was thirteen. When he received a lead about a Priest in a Colombian village, who might have answers, Diego took time off to investigate. However, on arrival, the Priest was shot, and Diego became involved in protecting Tara Powell after someone tried to kill her in the Church Cemetary. The readers of "Dangerous Choice will continue to follow Tara and Diego to find out what happens.
"Dangerous Choice" is another fantastic book by Barbara Freethy. I love Barbara Freethy portrayal of her characters and the way they intertwine with each other. Barbara Freethy always ensures that I engage with her characters and plots and "Dangerous Choice" developed that for me. "Dangerous Choice" is fast-moving, and you never know what going to happen until you turn the page. "Dangerous Choice is well written and researched by Barbara Freethy.
The readers of Dangerous Choice will learn the importance of friendship, loyalty, family and teamwork. Also, readers of Dangerous Choice will understand the consequences of revenge and hatred on everyone who is involved.

Here’s the thing about this series: I enjoyed it to a point. I gave these books somewhat high ratings cause it was still interesting, however The entire series follows the same format- a civilian being involved with one of the agents and becoming involved in an investigation in which someone they know and love is either kidnapped or killed. Bree, Wyatt, and Parisa’s stories were actually more interesting than the others.
For Diego’s story, they spent a lot of time focused on Colombia and Bethany, when I’d liked to have had this story be more centered on Diego finding his brother. Vincent lingered along throughout the books but when it came down to it I found it to be anticlimactic and quite short. Actually, a lot of these books were anticlimactic nor was it suspenseful enough for me. Either way, I still thought it was a good read even though I felt like it could have been better.

April 29, 2021Sigh. This book crossed my personal boundaries. Two F bombs along with some intimate scenes with some details and other swearing. I guess I won't be coming back to this series. It's a personal thing and has nothing to do with the author's writing or ability. I've loved her stories so far.

Tara Powell is desperately trying to find her best friend. FBI special agent Diego Rivera is searching for the family he lost when he was a teenager. The priest has answers for both of them but he is shot before they can speak to him. Diego rescues Tara from the shooters and they soon realize that they may be strangers but their lives are tangled together and they need to work together to untangle the knots and get the answers they are looking for.
This is the fifth book in Barbara Freethys FBI series and she has packed it full of action. These books can be read as stand alones because Ms. Freethy does a wonderful job of giving the reader a quick back story in each book but you will get a more complete picture by reading the series.

What an epic ending to what has been a roller coaster of a series! The suspense in this book starts right off the bat and just keeps going - but is also a wonderful story with two really thoughtful characters that were relatable and I cared about. I loved watching the relationship grow between Tara and Diego as they helped each other. I may need to go reread the book (or the series) right away!

I love this series! Diego had such a bad childhood with being taken away from his mother and younger brother by his father when he was 13. His father was cruel to him, and he was hurt his mother never looked for him. I think it was a blessing he and his father didn’t get along so he was sent to military school. He became such a good man and built a family with his five other friends that went through Quantico together. He has never forgotten his mother and brother and has been looking for them. It had to be hard for him to get a lead on his mother and brother, but not trust the agent that gave him the lead. Was it destiny that placed Tara in Columbia in the same town at the same place as Diego? I can’t imagine what Tara felt like when they were in a church and guns started going off and saw the priest who was helping her find her friend Bethany shot down and killed. Luckily Diego grabbed her hand and got them out of there. This started an adventure with the high school Spanish teacher and the FBI agent where they get shot at, beat up, stole a plane, as well as other happenings. It had to be very hard for Diego to think his brother is involved with the Salazar mafia family, and then Tara realizing her friend may also be involved. This book is so exciting and has nail biting action. I loved catching up with the characters I met in previous books. I was also happy to find out who has been behind all the problems the FBI group of friends had. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

Barbara Freethy doesn’t disappoint in DANGEROUS CHOICE, Book 5 of her Off the Grid: FBI Series. Each title in the series focuses on one of five FBI agents who became a family while training at Quantico. Because there is a mystery running through all five titles, you definitely want to read them in order.
DANGEROUS CHOICE follows Freethy’s successful formula from the earlier four titles. One of the FBI agents — this time Diego Rivera — is using some personal time to work on solving the personal mystery that has haunted him since he was a teenager. He quickly meets Tara Powell, a civilian, who is trying to solve her own personal mystery — the disappearance of her childhood friend and foster sister.
It quickly becomes clear both Diego and Tara are working on the same case. And because this is a romantic suspense novel, they become lovers.
Freethy knows how to tell a suspenseful tale. I read this book over two nights (only because I had to go to work in between). On a weekend, it would have been a one-day binge read. The romance is an added layer that doesn’t overpower the book. And her sex scenes are tastefully nongraphic.
Fans of the FBI series will love this book — and the unexpected surprise at the very end!! Everyone else, start with Perilous trust and binge read all five books. You will not be disappointed.

Wow! Barbara Freethy has once again delivered an incredible romantic thriller with Dangerous Choice. Each book in Barbara Freethy's Off the Grid: FBI series gets better and better. I absolutely loved Dangerous Choice, the fifth book in her Off the Grid: FBI series. Dangerous Choice had me guessing throughout the story as to who was behind the disappearance and the other thrilling events. I could not put it down. I loved every page. I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Barbara Freethy has once again proven that she is a master storyteller. Dangerous Choice is the story of Diego Rivera, an undercover FBI agent and Tara Powell, a high school Spanish teacher. Diego and Tara meet at the church each wanting to talk to Father Manuel. Diego is looking for information about his missing mother, Camilla and brother, Mateo and Tara is looking for her best friend Lauren. Father Manuel is murdered at the beginning of mass, and Diego and Tara run from the church. Someone is chasing after Diego or Tara or perhaps both of them. They decide to work together to find out the whereabouts of both Diego's brother, Mateo and Tara's friend, Lauren. After multiple attempts on their lives, the relationship between Diego and Tara changes. Neither is sure if their relationship is just fueled by the adrenaline from the chase. Diego reaches out to Wyatt Tanner for help. Eventually all clues lead back to Los Angeles. I really enjoy the poignant and bittersweet moments, the plot twists and the surprises that I have come to love and expect in Barbara Freethy's books and Dangerous Choice did not disappoint. One of my favorite parts of the story are the poignant moments that Tara has during conversations with her Mom and with Lauren. I loved all the secrets that Diego and Tara shared with one another. I love that all the characters from the previous books were included in Dangerous Choice. It felt like a family reunion and I loved catching up with the other characters from the series. I was also glad the Vincent Rowland's revenge plot against the team finally came to light and I love how it was resolved. That was truly one plot twist that I did not see that happening. I love how all Barbara Freethy's epilogues, wrap up the ending of the story and are always my favorite part of her books. Never would I have guessed how Lauren's disappearance was linked to Diego's brother, Mateo, that was truly a surprise plot twist. I love how all the lose ends got tied up. I love all the characters and the way she describes the locations in and around Colombia and Los Angeles. It was really an incredible story and I loved every page

Tara Powell and Diego Rivera both have someone they need help finding, and one man has information that can help them both. Diego Rivera is an FBI agent who just finished an assignment and is taking a few days to look into a tip he was given. He was told to talk to a priest in Columbia who might have some information on the location of his missing mother and brother who he’s been searching for for 18 years now. When he arrives at the church however, the priest is already in what looks like a heated discussion with a woman. When he finally gets to talk to the priest, the priest tells him he’ll talk to him after the service. Unfortunately for Diego, he doesn’t get that chance. Gunfire breaks out during the service and the priest is shot. Diego is standing beside the woman who’d been talking to the priest so he grabs her hand and takes off running.
Tara is a high school Spanish teacher who is searching for her best friend, Bethany. No one seems to think Bethany is actually missing because she likes to just take off on a whim, but Tara knows something is wrong. She had talked to a priest who said to come back the next day and he’d tell her what he knew, but the next day, he says he can’t help her. She goes inside the church, hoping to try talking to the priest after the service, but doesn’t get that chance. When the gunfire goes off, killing the priest, a man grabs her hand and tells her to run. After getting a safe distance away, she finds out the man who saved her is Diego. She doesn’t know much about him, but after explaining why she’s there, Diego agrees to help her find Bethany.
I loved all the twists and turns in this book. The characters are thrown into life threatening situations over and over again but because of their trust in each other, they always make it out alive. Tara and Diego work so well together, and the chemistry between them is intense! Once I started this book, I just couldn’t stop! This was another amazing installment in the Off the Grid series, and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Diego Rivera is taking a few personal days in Columbia searching for the Mother and brother who disappeared from his life many years ago. A vague clue from another FBI agent sent him to a small village in Columbia. He plans to meet and talk to the village priest in hope that he can shed some light into his Mother’s whereabout.
Tara Powell is also in Columbia. She is searching for her girlfriend who has gone missing. Tara tried going to the authorities about her friend, only to be told there is nothing to worry about. Taking matters into her own hands, she heads to the small village where it seems her friend was last known to be.
Both Tara and Diego plan to attend the church service and, hopefully, talk to the priest following the service. But an eruption of gunfire has them both running for cover. Tara Powell is also in Columbia. She is searching for her girlfriend who has gone missing. Tara tried going to the authorities about her friend, only to be told there is nothing to worry about. Taking matters into her own hands, she heads to the small village where it seems her friend was last known to be.
Both Tara and Diego plan to attend the church service and, hopefully, talk to the priest following the service. But an eruption of gunfire has them both running for cover. This is the fifth book in the Off the Grid series about a group of FBI agents that lost one of their own in a training mission. This is the story of Diego, one of those agents, and Tara. Diego is in Columbia searching for his mother and brother who he hasn't seen in years, while Tara is looking for her missing best friend.
If you enjoy romantic suspense, you'll enjoy this one. There is plenty of non-stop action as Diego and Tara run from the shooters and try to figure out who is after them and why. It was great to see the other agents come together to help Diego and Tara out. I also liked the conclusion to Vincent in their lives.
There were two things that were an issue for me. One would be that I thought there was a bit of instant love between Tara and Diego, which I normally don't care for. With everything going on I could understand why it was that way, but it's still hard for me to buy into a relationship when they're pretty much in love from the get go. The second is that I thought things with Vincent were wrapped up too quickly. I would have liked to have known why exactly Vincent did why he did. I get he blames to group for what happened to Jaime, but why was he so convinced they were all responsible? Why did he not believe it was just a tragic accident? It's not really answered.
I would recommend reading the series in order, as things with Vincent have been escalating throughout the series. It will also give readers a chance to get to know all the members of the tight-knit group.
This wasn't my favorite book of the series, but I still really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to Flynn's book, which is the next in the series.

Not knowing which of them is the target for the assassins, they decide to work together to get to the bottom of both of their mysteries. Tara Powell is looking for her best friend who was her foster sister. Diego Rivera is looking for his mother and brother who left when he was a young teen.
This is in the FIRST CHAPTER people!! What a page turner.

Excellent writing and the pacing is spot on. Love these people and am so happy that this is NOT the last book in the OFF THE GRID series.
You miss so much if you don’t have the back story of the whole group, so I advise to read them all, in order. What a fabulous series.

Dangerous Choice by Barbara Freethy is the 5th book in her Off the Grid:FBI series.
Although I have enjoyed all of the books in the series, this one was especially good!
Special Agent Diego Rivera is searching for his mother and younger brother when a “hot” tip takes him to a small town in Columbia. Tara Powell, a teacher, ends up in the same village looking for her best friend who has been missing for over a week. So of course they both end up needing to talk to the same priest in the same small church. When he is killed while performing mass, Diego and Tara run out of the church together into the church’s graveyard. Diego stumbles across his mother’s tombstone and is shocked to learn she remarried and has been dead for years.
A gunman attacks the pair in the graveyard, and they flee again into the thick vegetation. Finally they make their way back to the hotel only to find Tara’s room ransacked. Deciding that it is much better to stay together they pack all of their belongings into Diego’s car and head to the bar to see if they can find out anything about the priet’s death. They don’t find out much, but being attacked when they leave the building has them running for their lives.
And that’s just the first three chapters!
I had a really hard time putting this one down and read it in 2 days! Didn’t get much of anything else done!
Dangerous Choice is full of twists and turns, plenty of action, and connections you won’t believe. It was a great read and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

The four of the remaining five have all been targeted in one way or another & have not only managed to escape with their last bed but they’ve found their significant other. Now it is Diego’s story.
Diego is looking for his estranged mother & half brother. He’s been looking for years & can’t believe he finally has a lead that may go somewhere. Right as he is ready to talk to the priest about them, the priest is shot & killed. While pulling a fellow American, Tara, to safety, Diego stumbles across disturbing news. Tara is looking for her best friend that disappeared. Was the shooting related to her or up Diego?
Barbara Freethy is a master at romantic suspense. This series has been one of the best I’ve read. Each story builds on the one before it but can also be read as stand alone stories. The characters are realistic & well formed. The action grabs you from the first page & keeps you interested until the very end. I like that in each story, the other characters are brought in so the reader gets updates on their lives. This enforces the feeling that this group of agents has not only become friends and watch each other’s backs but that they also have become family.

I love Barbara Freethy's writing and this book, Dangerous Choice, is just as exciting as the other books in this FIB series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I fully advise that you read the previous books in the series to get the most out of this suspenseful and gripping story. Each book in the series follows one FIB agent that were on a team back in their training days at Quantico. This story is about FIB agent Diego.
Someone has been messing with the lives of each member that was on the training team from Quantico where one of their teammates had a horrible accident that resulted in his death. The last few years it seems that suspicious things have happened to each team member that has put their lives on the line and brought out secrets from their past. Who is doing this? Why is this happening? Diego and his team are brought together to help Diego and his situation. Now that they are alltogether, will they still be
strung along like puppets while following leads? Will the person (puppet master), finally reveal themselves and their motives behind all this revenge?
Order this book and the other books in the series and get caught up in the suspense and romance that happens for each agent. It doesn't come easy, but there always is a HEA. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I am excited for the story of Flynn!

Dangerous Choice (Off the Grid FBI #5) by Barbara Freethy is her newest book that focuses on FBI Special Agent Diego Rivera. He is one of a group of friends from Quantico that this series focuses on. Each book contains drama, intrigue and lots of mystery to the agent and often - okay all the time - they find love. To me the books are a fast read, because I have so much trouble putting them down.
Diego Rivera is looking in a small Colombian village for his mother and brother. When he goes to approach the priest in town, there is another person speaking with him. A beautiful woman who is seemingly upset, but the priest leaves to run a service. While he waits for the service to be over, gunfire erupts and he and Tara Powell (She is the other person who was speaking to the Priest.) have to run for safety. She is looking for her best friend who disappeared in the same Colombian village. Together, they end up working together searching for their people. Having to get from place to place and hiding from the cartel that seems to be quite interested in them bonds them quickly. They get hints, clues and help as they continue to search, going from one place to another.

Dangerous Choice is book 5 in Barbara Freethy’s excellent FBI Off the Grid series. The action begins strong and never lets up until the end. FBI agent Diego hasn’t seen or heard from his mother and younger brother since that night eighteen years ago when his father dragged him out of the family home. Now he has received a tip that might help him locate one or both. American school teacher Tara hasn’t heard from her best friend, Bethany, in several weeks...most unusual. She sets about retracing Bethany’s steps. Diego and Tara meet at a church service in Columbia, South America, each intending to speak to the priest about to conduct a mass. The next thing they know is the priest has been shot and the congregation is dodging lots of bullets. Taking cover in a graveyard Diego and Tara are blindsided when they once again are dodging bullets. Who is the target, Tara, Diego, both? Each has their own quest, but decide they should stick together for safety. That’s all I will say about the plot. Just be prepared for an exciting, suspenseful story with lots of twists. Ms. Freethy creates strong characters and realistic situations that keep the reader engaged, turning pages, and a little breathless. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Most highly recommend.

Freethy is keeping the series going and I’m excited to see where it goes.
