Rouen Chronicles #3

A Shifter's Revenge

Rate this book
"Never kick me when I'm down, because when I get back up ... you're screwed."

Briar should be living the easy life. She finally checked off the last name on her kill list. The new pack Alpha isn't an a-hole, and her smoking hot shifter boyfriend is finally ready to spelunk her bat-cave.

But she should've remembered that life hates her. An unknown evil force is kidnapping people to create an army of drug-induced, soldier-like supernaturals. If that wasn't bad enough, the Abydos, the ancient blood Briar has vowed to protect, has been discovered. Briar must risk moving it before the growing evil in Rouen gets their hands on it.

Just when she thinks she's safe, Briar learns of a deep betrayal by someone close to her that threatens not only her pack, but the entire city. She can't fight against it as she is. She must become more, become greater. If she can't accept her destiny and fully embrace the shifter she was meant to be, then history will repeat itself, and she'll lose her pack and everyone she cares about.

Born at the stroke of midnight, Raven Steele grew up in a home bordering a graveyard as old as time. Ghosts became her only friends and whispered tales of a world that existed between night and day. In this place, monsters roamed the lands, magic curled in the wind, and good and evil fought over the hearts and minds of humans. Desperate to not let those dark and brave creatures be forgotten, Raven wrote down the words of the ghosts, knowing their stories of triumph and sorrow would give strength and comfort to those in our world.

And so, when the sun sets, Raven retreats to the cemetery at the edge of the woods, where she sits and listens to the dead speak their tales of Rouen and all of its inhabitants. Because one day, our two worlds may collide, and when they do, we must be ready. For when their darkness bleeds into ours, we will be fighting for more than our lives. We will be battling for our souls.

Raven Steele is a pen name to USA Today's bestselling author Rachel McClellan.

A Shifter's Revenge is the third installment in co-authors Raven Steele & Ava Mason's Rouen Chronicles. This story is a continuation of A Shifter's Curse and A Shifter's Rage. It has been four days since Briar, aka Isabella Moretti, removed a one of the last key players responsible for the murder of her entire pack, her family, while leaving her for dead. Briar, we learned in the previous novel, is also a powerful shifter known as the Komira. But, if you thought Briar's life was going to get any easier now that she's crossed names off her list, you are in for a huge surprise.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Wow what a finale to this part of the story!! Briar thinks things are going to calm down now that she has fulfilled her revenge list and a new alpha is in charge. Unfortunately things don't really work that way when it becomes apparent that something evil is still out to get them. There are lots of twists and turns to the story that will really keep you guessing until the action picks up bringing us all the way to the captivating ending. While we may be done with Briar's story it set things up well for us to follow a different character later yet still be in the same world. Perfect for fans of urban fantasy. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

A Shifter's Revenge #3 - I hope you've been reading these books in order; you'll enjoy this one a lot better if you have. I love the Ann Landers' quote, how true. This book is just as well written, well thought out and action packed as the first two. The characters are likable, realistic and grow more with each book. The fast paced storylines continue to evolve and the reader is taken on another rollercoast ride through a gamut of emotions and twisting kinks. The intrigue and the vivid descriptions keeps the reader glued to the pages and all too soon another book is finished, which is really difficult on this Shifter addict. I am never disappointed by Raven/Rachel's work and she remains one of my favorite authors; she weaves her craft so well. It is so hard to write a review since the desire is so strong to turn this into a book report, but I dislike those people that take away the joy of reading a new book. 5*

A Shifter's Curse #1 - Another good series from one of my favorite authors, Rachel McClellan and even and with her name change to Raven Steele, she still remains in that category. This book is fast paced, action packed and well thought out. The storylines are interesting and add twists and kinks, but keep the reader glued to the pages. There's violence but it isn't graphically gory but clear what happened; the reader still can use their imagination. Yes, vulgar language but not continuous, here and there for emphasis.

The characters are developed enough for the reader to understand them and their motives. They run the gamut on personalities and types. The action has a real feeling to it, not the Hollywood garbage common today. With the author's clear, vivid descriptions the reader is racing along in a rollercoaster car that sometimes isn't on the tracks, which adds a lot of excitement to the story. I contacted the author to review her books and she hasn't disappointed me once. 5*

Shifter's Rage #2 - Ms. McClellan is one of my favorite authors and even with her name change to Raven Steele, she still remains in that category. Like all of her previous books, this is fast paced, well written with well thought out storylines, some of which are completed in this book and some that set up the next book; not a cliffhanger. Her characters run the gamut from nice to typical to horrendous, complete with their own personalities. The action scenes run true, no Hollywood silliness, and there's violence but not graphic gory, just clear cut. The reader gets the picture and feels the pain, but their imagination is allowed to exist. The author does a wonderful job with her clear, vivid descriptions. There is sexual tension and some vulgar language but not in every sentence, paragraph or page.

Here and there will be a surprise twist out of the blue; there are still surprise kinks and actions, but the twists add a depth to the usual shifter/vampire/witch theme. Ms. McClellan makes her stories her own and not copies of what everyone else is doing. It is easy to get lost in the intrigue and suspense and the revenge, while still seeing good. I contacted the author to review her books a long time ago and haven't read a bad book in the last two years. 5*

BOOM! That's the sound of my mind being blown away by this amazing conclusion to a kick-ass series

Wow, I second, third, fourth and fifth guessed my way through this twisty, fast paced, shocking and awesome conclusion to Briar/Isabella's part of the story. There are (deliberately) some lose threads and unanswered questions to tempt you into continuing with books that will be about Samira and Lynx but there was also enough of a conclusion and neatly tied bow to satisfy this reader.

This is part of a trilogy and can't be read as a stand alone book, however it is a series I highly recommend. I loved the different characters and how they interact with each other and am going to be adding Samira's books to my TBR list.

I was spellbound by this book, the writing was so easy to follow and it held my attention from start to finish. I really didn't want to put this story down, I constantly needed to know what was going to happen next! An amazing book to complete a fantastic series about a wonderful heroine, her friends and her pack.

It's complicated

Vampires and shifters have a complicated history and trust does not come easily to either race. This fragile alliance may not with stand Mateo's thirst for power. Angel seems to be different and genuinely cares about Briar as he puts her happiness and safety above his own. He is selfless which is unusual for a vampire as they are generally self serving and power hungry. Samurai is a vault, so many hidden secrets tucked away, years of knowledge and experience that she is not willing to discuss with her friends. Is she ashamed of her past or dies not want them to judge her too harshly? Thus Trianus guy umis still a mystery but surely someone must have something on him. Then there is the love triangle between Luke, Angel and Briar although Angel us willing to wait for her. Does she have a longer life span because she is special and has ancient blood running through her veins? Still so many questions and very few answers, who is the Phoenix and why does he want Isabella? Let's hope the next book has some answers.

Wow. So much happening in this book. It is action packed, it doesn't let up! From page one this book takes you on a nonstop rollercoaster.  This is the third book in the Rouen series, and they must be read in order. If you haven't started them, do it. They do not disappoint. And this book is the best yet. There are twists and turns, ups and downs, pain and love, and so much more.

The main characters are fairly well developed at this point, so there is little more development for them. Briar's history is pretty much complete at this point, so in this book it's more about what she becomes, her future. We do get more glimpses into Samira's past that definitely allude to a lot more. I think the next book will really bring her character home fully. And there are still some lingering questions of Lynx's heritage that this book hints at. So here's hoping we delve more into that in the next book.

The storyline in this series is excellent. I can't wait to continue reading. I want more.

Sooo. I received this ARC- and I am very glad they gave it to me. I was excited follow my girl on this roller coaster ride of a journey . It was once again non-stop action. I should be ashamed to say that I was glad to see the heroine finally get intimate with her love interest! So many strong female characters! Sisterly bonding time!
This is the best yet of the series. Sad to hear about the betrayals but so proud of Briar stepping up to fulfill her destiny! I am so on edge about the feelings felt near certain hot vampires!!!! I feel like we are learning so much more about the secondary ladies... I want to know all!!!! Really, this is an exciting series where you will enjoy a smart a$$ heroine who is just my kind of gal pal. I can’t wait for next installment to learn more about Sammie whammie!

Book three in the series and stuff really gets real for Briar and her comrades. There's plenty of twists and turns in this book. Things happen that you just didn't expect and some which you may of had an inkling for but the authors cleverly twisted so you just weren't sure. I can't really go into anything about the story in this review as I think if I did it would be revealing spoilers which I hate doing. What I can say is that it was another fantastic read. It kept me interested and invested in the story right to the very end. I'm really enjoying this series and am very much looking forward to Samira's part next. This book isn't the end for Briar, but it is time for another's story to be told as I feel this story arc has many factors to it. A five star read for me.

I’m not sure why, but I could not get into this book. I read/skimmed the entire thing because I needed to know how it ended, but I wasn’t able to fall into it like I did with the previous ones. It was a bit predictable, with the uncle and what not, but that didn’t really bother me.
I wasn’t attached to any of the secondary characters (aka Jerry and Gerald) so I didn’t really care what happened to them. I’m still very confused about Angel and that whole love triangle, but I don’t see myself reading the next book to find out what happens. I might read the next one just to continue the series but who knows. Four stars because it did wrap up the first part of the series fairly well from what I could tell.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Ok. So this was excellent, spectacular end to the first arc of the series. The problem? I wanted to tear my hair out, scream to the heavens, and tell the authors how much this book messed me up inside. It was terrifyingly excellent how at the last second they took my heart and smacked down the plot twist to Briar’s being a komira and what she needed to do to save her friends, then turning around and writing the most terrifyingly sensually sickening (in that good yet terrible way) leaving you gasping for more way they did. I want to storm through the house demanding what’s going to happen next and what terrible actions will entail in Sammie’s books. Omg. Omg!

Also, read this as an arc.

Wow! Absolutely worth all 5* I'm giving it!

Again, the author's hit a grand slam with this addition to the series. As everything is emerging, those niggling doubts about a certain someone, it comes out. And you're left maybe not being totally shocked but yet kind of so and sad for being right. But it works out..that being said there's so much left to come. I can't wait to start the next book. These books reel you in, get their hooks in you, and you're caught. I'm enjoying these books, this world, and all the characters in it. You can't help but root for them. Please read this series, you won't reget it! Happy 😊 Reading 📚

I liked this book. I'm not itching to read the next like i thought i would be. I feel like this one just left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like the next one will be nothing like this but weirdly i think I'm jaded at this point. Even though a triangle was in no means the main focus of this book why even hint at one. I honestly feel like it takes away from a really good story. At the end i don't like the main character which I in fact resent because I really liked her in the beginning of book one. I know she'll probably unfortunately have more books because the hinted unnecessary triangle but i can actually say I'm not looking forward to it

Shifters , Witches and vampires oh no! Blair has finished her revenge. Things are not looking so good for Blair and Luke. Angel is being mysterious. Things are not adding up and if that isn't bad enough someone is trying to kill her. Between Blair , Samira and Lynx these kick butt women have forge a family . Lets hope nothing can destroy it. There is so many things going on to fighting for your life to drinking , betrayal, confronting witches and the best of friendship and love. I voluntarily read an arc of this book.

Once again this series has pulled off another home run! I truly love this series. The characters are so well thought out and believable. They make mistakes and are not even close to perfect but they learn from their mistakes. They are likable and very relatable. The story flows beautifully and is very action packed while still giving you scenes that let you get to know each character. I am beyond excited about the next book in this series. I cannot wait to see where these guys go next. I am in this until the end!

No spoilers of any kind included.
This book like the two books before it was absolutely awesome.
I’m loving this series!
Ava Mason and Raven Steele are an amazing story weaving team and I’m looking forward to reading more of their blended work.
So it’s gonna be a big HECK YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book but if you haven’t read the first two books in this series then I highly suggest that you do otherwise you will get confused as to what’s happening and who’s who!

Loved it!!!

I absolutely loved this book and the series. Briar is a strong, kick butt female wolf against the biggest bad yet. We finally find out who is the third person working with Trianus and man is it a twist!! I love how Briar and Luke finally become a couple but I still want to know more about the enigma that is Angel. And Briar’s two roommates are also strong females and I loved how they were continually mixed in the plot which will be great moving into the next branch of the series. Loved this book and highly recommend it

Intense, exciting and action packed this third book where the protagonists had to face the evil forces. Liked the suspense and the detailed descriptions and narrations that have on edge, very intrigued and reading avidly. Each time another surprise. My mind was reeling trying to guess who was behind the chaos. Good and intriguing characters, action, magic, mystery, betrayal, shifters, witches, vampires, monsters, loyalties, strong emotions, drama and romance. This book was packed!

So where does one go after getting your long saught after revenge? Life should be better and easier right? Not for poor Briar. Strap in for another wild ride with just as much drama, anxiety inducing battles, pack wars and even betrayal from new sources that cut deeper.
We finally get to see more into the other ladies of the house, especially behind the ever present mask of Samira.
I did receive a copy as an ARC.

Everyone in Rouen has a secret or 2. Many have been revealed but there are so many left to be unveiled. I love this series so much! There were so many twist and turns in this book it was had to know who to trust. As the last story from the shifter POV this was very satisfying. Can’t wait to see what happens next and what secrets are uncovered in the next book.

First let me state that I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but it in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

Holy shiznet!!! Another gr8 story. This one is just as well written as the first two. Again my emotions were all over the place. I thought this book would bring a conclusion to this story. It did in some ways, but left it open for so much more. I can't wait to read the next story; just the name has grabbed me. I recommend this read 5 Thumbs up.

This book drove me crazy because I kept going from how can she be so stupid to make up your mind.
I do have to give props though for being a series I read because the books so far in unlimited are some what free to being a series that has hooked me. I love the friendships and the love triangle and the pack. I hope further books gives them a break, they need one, the author has Harry Pottered them enough.

Four stars

Four stars. Why because of many things. 1. Too many errors some grammar and some typos. 2. Names of characters that didn't fit into the plots or chapter. 3. Didn't properly get into her attraction for Luke.? Why not Angel. Where the first & second book seemed to have substance this one felt weak and tired. Didn't keep me enthralled. I do plan to read that set of book in line though...

This Series Was So Hard To Put Down!!!!

I had the first of the 3 books in this series and read though it in a day. I was addicted! I went on to buy the rest of the books in all three series! The imagination, the storyline, the characters, everything sucked me in, and I absolutely loved it! I can’t wait to read on about Samira and Lynx, and see how these strong ladies continue to kick Evil’s ass!!!!

Briar got her revenge but that didn't make life any easier. Lots of action and suspense with great characters and so much going on!! Briar's roommates Samira and Lynx are still helping and of course Luke is still involved with Angel also in play. Loved it! I received an arc of this book and couldn't put it down.

This series is amazing and just keeps getting better! This book is full of grief, action and yet love. Briar learns a lot in this book about who she can really trust. I love Luke and Angel and the selflessness they both share in regards to Briar. I was on the edge of my seat through this entire book and couldn't put it down. I need the next book now!

Fantastic

I love this story line. The betrayed wasn't too difficult to figure out but I did have moments of doubt. The level of snark was to ed down a bit in this one as Briar has her moments of self reflection. The triangle dynamic also keeps things interesting. Enough to keep me coming back, waiting for the next one.
