These men never back away from danger—and always fall hard for love in Cover Six Security, an explosive new series from USA Today Bestselling Author Lisa B. Kamps.
Gordon "Mac" MacGregor swore an oath to protect and defend—an oath he continues to uphold as a former Army Ranger specializing in dark ops private security with Cover Six Security. Danger is a constant companion—and one of the few things that make him feel alive. He doesn't expect that danger to come in the form of the Tabitha "TR" Meyers, the only woman who sees him for who he truly is—and the only woman he's ever sworn off.
TR rarely abides by the rules, not when there's something she needs—and right now, she needs Mac. She enlists his help for one night, thinking she can simply walk away when it's over. But that one night is just the beginning, thrusting both of them into a dangerous web of scandal and cover-up with roots that run deeper than either of them expects.
When TR becomes an unwitting pawn in a game of deception and revenge, Mac will do anything to protect her—even if it means risking his own heart.
Lisa B. Kamps is a USA Today Bestselling Author who writes steamy romance with real-life characters and relatable stories that evoke deep emotion. She likes her men hard, her bed soft, her coffee strong, her whiskey neat, and her wine chilled...and when it comes to sports, hockey is the only thing that matters!
Lisa currently lives in Maryland with her husband and two sons (who are mostly sorta-kinda out of the house), one very spoiled Border Collie, two cats with major attitude, several head of cattle, and entirely too many chickens to count. When she's not busy writing or chasing animals, she's cheering loudly for her favorite hockey team, the Washington Capitals--or going through withdrawal and waiting for October to roll back around!
3.5 stars. I have never read this author before and I thought this was a good introduction to her work. However, a small warning. Mac and TR have history, so I always felt like I was out of touch with part of the story, which was a bit frustrating at times. But good character building and a nice, suspenseful story made it better.
THE PROTECTOR: MAC is the first book in the Cover Six Security series but there is a prequel, Covered By A Kiss, where the main characters first come together. For more of a backstory, you may want to start with the prequel! (I did NOT and although you can start with MAC like I did, you may feel like you're missing some pieces!)
Tabitha "TR" Meyers is a reporter, looking for a story that involves a Senator. She enlists the "help" of Cover Six Security but one fake date wth Gordon "Mac" MacGregor sends them both down a dangerous path.
Mac and TR had been flitting around each other for the past year. TR was bold, a little reckless but she was also tough and she knew what, or WHO, she wanted...Mac. He shut her first attempt at a relationship down, not because he wasn't attracted to TR but because Mac was completely and totally enamored with her. (Pffft...Men!) Don't get me wrong, Mac was alpha through and through, wickedly smart and sexy as hell. I think that he was truly afraid of hurting TR so he pushed her away. Sweet, in a weird way!
The plot was full of suspense, intrigue and action, all twisty and distorted so I was really left scratching my head trying to figure out, whodunit and more importantly, why? And I enjoyed the secondary characters, I'm looking forward to their stories too. I just wished I had read the prequel first {hangs head in shame}, because unfortunately, the beginning had me a tad discombobulated, trying to figure out the players and connections. I felt like I was dropped in a movie where I missed the first ten minutes! Not enough to deter me from continuing with this series, just a minor distraction. Told from dual POVs with a few chapters from the bad guy, a happy ending and a glimpse into book 2. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
I couldn't wait for the completion of Mac and TR's story. Let's just say I definitely wasn't disappointed. There is so much going on. Covered By A Kiss was basically a teaser in my opinion, but even I couldn't imagine how the rest of their story would go. I take my hat off to the way Lisa wrote this book. I am in awe as to how her mind actually works to come up with something this gripping. Then when you add in the suspense, amazing secondary characters-I know it sounds cliche, but I honestly couldn't put the book down. I just needed to know what happens next. Then the way the story ended!! Gah!!! How long until the next book??? I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
This author I have not read before with not really being tempted until I seen this one. She got my attention with this army ranger Mac whom is in another one of my fav to read a security company. Like superman though he has a weakness that he comes across in this. Tabitha needs him with it only being that beginning so was the web that wound around us readers. The suspense will be gripping with Mac and TR leading us through it all. They have others that help them with this being one solid you do not want to miss.
I was waiting anxiously for this book to be released, and thanks to Lisa for giving me the opportunity to get an ARC. I always enjoyed her hockey series, but this new series takes it to a whole new level. The suspense is off the charts and there is so much action. Oh and the romance makes your reading device overheat ! I read that the next one in the series will be about Daryl , just hoping I doin't have to wait too long to read about Chaos. Love these guys that comprise Cover Six Security.
This book has a little bit of everything in it including sitting on the edge of your seat suspense. Mac is a warrior that is has more than just physical scars and they run deep. TR has had some bad luck lately, accidents that are just wrong place at wrong time or are they? Are they more than bad luck? Mac will do anything to protect her. Characters bring heat, action and made the story real. I for one can’t wait to see what comes next for this group. I highly recommend reading this book.
DNF. The writing style didn't appeal to me and I gave up halfway through, bored. I was surprised this was the first book in the series because it seemed like there's a lot of background information missing.
There didn't appear to be any real character development. TR was either drooling over Mac or freaking out about something. At one stage she ran back towards a fire Mac had just saved her from and also dropped the gun she'd been given. Early on in the story Mac tells JR that she's 'not like most women' which JR thanks him for. Normally the sentiment that the heroine is so different to the rest of us supposed hags annoys me. But this time I think we can all take it as a compliment.
* Just realised there's a 0.5 book which probably fills in some gaps. Oh well I don't think it would have made a difference for me.
The book is filled with suspense, drama and of course romance.
Lisa B Kamps is a relatively new to me author. I was lucky enough to meet her at a book signing about a year ago. Since then I have read and loved her hockey series and thrilled about her latest series, Cover Six Security.
The series focuses on a group of military men who own a private security company. You can't take the protective nature out of Gordon "Mac" MacGregor. He's strong.and dangerous but has a soft spot for his friend Tabitha "TR".
He's been avoided her for a year until she needs an escort for a political party and she decided that he would make the perfect date. Unfortunately for both of them there is danger lurking around the corner and the must work together to find out whose after them.
I thought the author does a great job blending the drama and suspense with the love story. Mac is honest and admits he isn't a fan of talking about his feelings but he isn't shy about showing his affection in other ways. He is very protective of TR and will do anything for her.
TR is feisty and strong. She isn't a wallflower but is willing to fight for the truth and she isn't afraid to go.after what she wants.
Being a first in the series the ground work is laid out and were introduced to several members of the Cover Six Security group. I'm looking forward to read about the rest of the men in the group
The Protector: MAC is the first book in the Cover Six Security series by Lisa B. Kamps. This book follows on from Covered By A Kiss, A Cover Six Security Novella. Even though you could read this book as a standalone, I recommend reading the novella as it is where a lot of the characters backstories are shared, and where their story ‘begins’- although we originally meet them in The Chesapeake Blades Series (I think it’s in Loving Hard- Book #2). So, I guess this is a bit of a spin-off from that series. Without giving too much away, I can divulge that Gordon MacGregor (Mac) is ex-military who is now working at Cover Six Security, specializing in dark-ops private security. He left the military under a bit of a cloud, which has left him feeling disappointed by the whole experience. He is badly scarred, physically and emotionally- and has a lot of inner turmoil. When he met Tabitha (TR), he was completely bowled over by her- and she seemed to see beyond his outer appearance. This is a woman he could fall hard for. But, instead of drawing her closer, her pushes her away. TR is a reporter who’s having a bit of an unlucky time lately. She just seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But Mac seems to think there might be more to it . He’s sure there is a real threat to her safety and is determined to do everything he can to protect her. Has the story she’s been working on drawn attention her way and put a target on her back? What lengths will Mac go to in order to protect her? Will he let down his defences and take a chance on love? With a powerful adversary intent on destroying her/them, there is a lot of intensity and suspense that will keep you flipping the pages to discover what happens. Will TR and Mac make it through unscathed, or will their deranged and powerful enemy win out in the end? You really should read all the thrilling details for yourself- you are sure to love it as much as I have! This is definitely my favourite story of Ms. Kamps, so far. The story has so much emotion, suspense, intrigue, action, drama, romance, revenge, hidden agendas, deception, secrets, lies, risks, chemistry, sizzle- and with such superb characters you won’t want to put the book down until you have read every single word!! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series now!!! Bring on Book #2!!
Intriguing characters plus plenty of heat and suspense
Part of Cover Six Security, this new series is a spinoff of the author’s Chesapeake Blade series. I really enjoyed the couple of hockey romances I’ve read by this author, and since suspense romance is one of my go-to genres, I was eager to jump into this one. One note: I’d highly recommend reading Covered by a Kiss before reading this, for reasons I’ll go into below.
I enjoyed the characters here; not only are both Mac and TR engaging, but there’s a ton of potential in the rest of the Cover Six team. We’ve got little more than a name for most of them, but what we did get already has me hooked, lol. I loved Mac’s protectiveness and TR’s feistiness, and they had a lot of chemistry together, while I thought the author did a nice job with the suspense elements—the action started almost immediately and there was nice pacing all the way to the end, keeping me sucked into the story.
I did struggle a little with the beginning here. I’m relatively new to this author, and since I was able to jump into the middle of her Baltimore Banners series without any problem, I was surprised that I felt a little lost initially, especially since I thought this was book 1 of the new series. It was only when I got to the end that I found out about the prequel novella that is the start of Mac and TR’s story (though they actually meet originally in Loving Hard from the Chesapeake Blades series, Jonathan and Sammie Reigler’s Book, and Jonathan is the main crossover character). So since I felt like I’d started in the middle of the story instead of the actual beginning, and Covered by a Kiss is apparently that missing piece, don’t make my mistake: read Covered by a Kiss first. 😀
Intriguing characters plus plenty of heat and suspense made this an enjoyable read for me in spite of that slightly rocky beginning, and I will be looking forward to the next book in the series. 4 stars
The Protector: Mac is the first title in the Cover Six Security series, and features Mac and TR.
This is an engaging tale of danger, intrigue and suspense. If you're not drawn in by the conspiracies, action, and drama the chemistry this pair share, and steamy hot love scenes will do the trick.
Both the hero and heroine are quite endearing and likeable. TR responses to situations are realistic and relatable. She's a reporter who is determined, dedicated and driven to discover the truth. Mac is a former military man, and an alpha to the core, and nothing really seems to phase him, except his feelings for TR.
Overall a great introduction to a new series, and I look forward to seeing the rest of the Cover Six alphas finding their happy ever afters.
Mac is a man in love with a women he doesn't think he can have. A woman he's been in love with for quite some time. TB is a woman who's in love with her bodyguard. One that she has made moves on without any luck. Throw in a mysterious attacker, some steamy love scenes, mix and you have this novel. A fast paced action packed romance novel. A good read in a series that you will want to read. I absolutely reccomend this book. I enjoyed it and I believe that any romance buff would enjoy it as well.
What worked for me: -the steamy scenes were good -I liked the team dynamics amongst the men -action and suspense elements were driving the plot -TR is one strong woman
What did not work for me: -Mac had a hard time accepting love and at times, I felt frustrated with him
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A story of suspense, love, and strong men who have scars inside and out.
Gordon “Mac” MacGregor is ex-military and is now a partner in Cover Six Security. He and some of his buddies he served with opened a security company after he’s forced to leave his position in the military after a disappointing defeat in court against a company that supplied defective military armor. He has scars on his body from war, and they are not only skin deep. He battles with himself from the scars on the inside. After meeting TR, a woman who sees beyond his skin, he finds that his life will change, and he may be able to open his heart.
TR, Tabitha, a reporter who has been having a streak of bad luck lately. She thinks that the things that are happening to her are just accidents or wrong place at the wrong time. However, Mac doesn’t believe that. He thinks that her life is in danger and he will do anything to protect her and keep her safe, even give his own life to do it. One story that TR has been working on has put her life in danger and she has no idea of how much danger she is in. Good thing that Mac was there to save her more than once.
One man who is playing a dangerous game between to gain power has decided that Mac is his last link to gain the power he craves. He’s deranged and thinks that he is better and smarter than Mac and that he can take him down single handedly.
I really liked this story. The pages turned very quickly in this book and I hated for the story to end. The men of Cover Six Security are lethal, protective, and very alpha. Mac is a man who follows his gut feelings and very rarely has it failed him. When he didn’t listen to his gut was when trouble and destruction hit. Mac and TR are a great couple and I loved reading their story. I hated for the book to end. The writing of this book was great, it kept my interest throughout the whole story, and I wanted more at the end. I loved the chemistry of the characters, both the men of the team as well as TR’s reaction to the men of the Security company. I look forward to more of the Cover Six Security men’s stories. I give this story a 4.5-star review and highly recommend it to readers who like military men, suspense, and stories of men who are taken to their knees by the woman who will hold their heart.
Having read the prequel novella, Covered By A Kiss, I was eager to jump into the continuation of Mac and TR's story. The story takes up from where the novella ended and Lisa B Kamps doesn't ease us in gently. You know early on that this book is going to be explosive! I would definitely recommend that you read the novella before starting The Protector: MAC as it'll help you to better understand the story and experience the full impact of what takes place in the first few chapters.
The Protector: MAC is loaded with suspense and mystery. You get glimpses of what's going on in the mind of the killer, but it's not until the end that all the puzzle pieces are fitted together and we learn the reasons behind what happens to TR. As the story progresses, we're given a few ‘red herrings’ that make you think the story is going to go one way when it actually goes in a completely different direction. As with the previous books I've read by Lisa B Kamps, you're able to feel the connection between the lead couple. She knows how to make each couple stand out on their own, and no two couples ever come across as the same. Sometimes with series’, the stories and couples can become kind of repetitive or too similar. That's never the case with this amazingly talented author who keeps introducing her readers to characters and couples they'll love.
We also get to meet the rest of the Cover Six Security team, although it did take me awhile to figure out who was who due to each of them also having a nickname. Even though the series is a spin off from the author's Chesapeake Blade series, it has a completely different feel to it, and I'm very excited about what's to come as each member of the Cover Six Security team get their own story. We're given hints of Daryl's story at the end of this one, and as expected, we're left with questions and the need to have the next book in our hands as soon as possible.
#fanbloomingtastic ♥
*I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book
Gordon “MAC” MacGregor was in the military but now he works for Cover Six Security and his latest job has become personal when he is asked to go to the Senator’s place with TR. Tabitha “TR” Meyers is a journalist who was working on an article based upon the sale of some property that may have involved the local Senator. When she is driven off the road and into water, the only reason she survived was Mac driving behind her. Mac soon realizes that TR’s life is in danger and he pushed her away in the past but with how close he came to losing her is he willing to let her go again? But can Mac keep her safe when it is clear that someone is making this extremely personal? This was such a great book and I really enjoyed it from start to finish. I thought Mac was awesome and pure alpha male! He definitely wanted to keep TR safe and also knew that he couldn’t let her go again. He was willing to do whatever it took to keep her safe and although he initially struggled with his feelings I loved when he finally owned up to how he was feeling! TR was such a great character and I loved how she knew when to let things go and when to fight for herself. She was strong and wanted to do the right things but had to overcome a lot of bad things that had just happened to her. The two had so much chemistry and it was evident that it had been there since they met a year ago. The two both wanted each other but had things to overcome and they had to keep safe! I loved the twists and turns that kept me wondering what was going to happen next as we learned more and more of the background on different characters! I was shocked about the Senator and what we learned! I was so happy with what Mac did at the end to keep TR safe! Looking forward to the next book in the series! - By Rebecca
This was my first novel by Lisa and oh my word. Your deepest desire for an alpha can easily be satisfied with Mac in all his manly glory.
Mac is your classic alpha, quiet, dominating and drool worthy. After Mac left the army, not on the greatest terms by taking on a senator, he went to work for Cover Six Security. After all that he's seen through his time in the Army and with Cover Six, Mac isn't about to let many people in. He's been broken somewhere along the way and those internal scars just don't heal like others. When the one woman he's completely sworn off is under threat from the man who got away from Mac before, it becomes his mission to make him pay.
TR, or Tabitha as she hates being called, had laid her heart out a year before to the man of her dreams. No one could measure up to him, and yet even after he put her in the friendzone, she couldn't shake the feelings. Lately, she hasn't had the best luck but that happens to everyone or could it not be just coincidence? The night all her fantasies were going to come true, her world is flipped upside down. Now she's trying to outrun who ever it is that wants to hurt her and that puts her right besides the man she's trying so hard to avoid.
This is a wild ride, with bumps and twists you won't know what's what until the end. As they weave their way through cover ups and distortion, they find their way into each other's hearts. Mac will make you wish for a Ranger turned security man of your own. I can almost hear his voice, feel his touch with how amazing Lisa brings him to life on the page. If this is just the beginning of Cover Six, it might be time to invest in a new battery operated boyfriend.
The Protector: MAC: (Cover Six Security) By: Lisa B. Kamps 5 out of 5 stars
The story The Protector: MAC: (Cover Six Security) by Lisa B. Kamps is a wonderful book that I loved reading. It is a story that includes suspense, mystery, and romance. It is a book that starts off strong and doesn’t let you go until you have read the final page. I found myself lost in the emotions and danger included in the story. I loved reading about the characters of Gordon “Mac” MacGregor and Tabitha “TR” Meyers. Mac is a man that knows about danger. He was in the military and understands how easy it is for a life to be taken or lost. He also is finding it hard to not think about Tabitha. TR is a woman who is strong, independent, beautiful, and stubborn. She had enlisted Mac’s assistance and now finds that danger is not only to her life, but her heart could also be in peril as well. These two have an undeniable attraction to each other. He is turning into a distraction. With dangerous scandals and coverups happening he is determined that he will protect her and keep her safe. Will he find out how and why TR’s life is in danger? Can he keep her safe? Will the feelings/emotions that these two have for each other be revealed? What does the future hold for TR and Mac? Read this book to find out. This story had me turning pages at times wondering what was going to happen next. I was constantly trying to put together the answers to questions and the mystery that the book presents. There is also romantic and steamy dialogue. The romance will make you swoon. The temperature in the room definitely rises when reading some scenes. Don’t miss out on a story that will keep your eyes glued to the pages until you have read the last one. This is a book that I highly recommend.
Will he be able to protect her when she is still poking where she shouldn't be?
*** 3 1/2 Stars ***
The Protector: MAC is the first book that I have read by Lisa B. Kamps so I was not sure what to expect. But the book description looked really interesting and as it was the first book of a new series I thought I would take a chance on a new to me author and a new series. The result of my chance is that I am on the fence about both the author and the series. This story started off with an extremely engaging and what could be a wonderful premise - a young journalist discovers a possible corrupt business deal with politicians involved and an ex army ranger who is hired to protect her since she is snooping around where she shouldn't be. Sounds really good if you ask me. Well the book dives off the deep end at certain points in time and just takes turns that make it long winded and over-arching. As the story progresses the reader is left without a lot of character development and depth and instead we are left to read a lot of monotonous internal dialogue. Plus don't even get me started on the rushed ending which was a letdown. Now with that being said I did read the whole story and am still going to continue with this series. After reading some reviews of Lisa B. Kamps other major series, which are sports based, I have faith that the stories in this series will come together as we read more about the men who make up Cover Six Security.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
I have to say that I absolutely loved this book and it is another great series in the making for Lisa! This book took over where the prequel stopped and it was full of suspense, intrigue as well as steam. There was romance involved as well but it was not in your face because Mac is not that guy but it was displayed awesomely for a guy like Mac. TR is in a situation that she never dreamed of putting herself in when doing a "fluff" public interest piece for her paper. She becomes suspicious almost immediately when things begin to be strange but doesn't see the danger. She enlists Mac's help to try to ferret out information and his well trained Spidey senses start pinging dramatically. There were several incidences that TR thought were harmless but Mac new better and he does his best to try to get through to her.
Go back a year and you will see TR's and Mac's meeting...she has been in love with Mac for a while and he with her but he didn't think that he deserved someone like her. He didn't feel like he was good enough because of his past and not to admit the scars both external and internal from his life in the military. In the end, he admitted his feelings because he couldn't loose her and she loved him for who he is now.
I absolutely love everything that Lisa writes but I really think that she has more hidden talents than hockey and fire romance...this is one and I cannot wait to see the next one in the series. I was offered an ARC for an honest review!
The Protector: MAC: A Cover Six Security Novel by Lisa B. Kamps is a mystery, suspense, romance story that has your heart pumping right from the very start and doesn’t let up until the final page. There is danger and intrigue, drama and mystery, twists and turns that keep you on your toes. I found myself lost in the story, where dangerous liaisons are more than they seem, secrets and cover ups could find you running for your life and scandals that will bring down those at the top, are the name of the game. As I navigated along this journey with the wonderful characters and hot and sexy alpha military men and one sassy woman, I found myself being transported right into their world along with them. The connection Mac and TR have is smoking and sizzles right across the pages. Gordon MacGregor ‘Mac’ is a man that is used to danger, but when he sees the woman he is in knots about in an accident right before his eyes, he realises he has never know true fear. Tabitha Meyers ‘TR’ is a woman who is used to doing things herself. She is one sweet but feisty and sassy, strong and independent woman, but she soon finds her life being threatened Mac and his team are the ones to keep her safe. But amongst all the turmoil and danger, is she at risk of losing her heart to this possessive man in the process. I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to see what Lisa has in store for the rest of the remarkable Cover Six team.
This book crossed a few genres for me, but the romance/sexual tension was always front and center.
Overall, I enjoyed the story arc: action from page one, a sense of danger, sparks galore between H and h. The reader gets a strong sense of the two main characters. Therein lies the rub.
What I didn't enjoy: pages of internal monologue, angst-filled second-guessing everything, but never getting a deep sense of who these people are. Maybe that was my fault; maybe I wanted too much from them and this story. But if you're going to give me all that internal wrenching, I want more than rehashing the previous internal wrenching.
And our Heroine is smart, sassy, independent, someone we can admire. Why the heck, then, does she keep denying that she's in danger, especially with the information she's found? It made no fricking sense. Here are these guys who truly know their business, are trying to help her get what she needs to expose whatever, and she insults them, blows off their expertise, and not only puts herself in danger, but them as well. Which, frankly, just pissed me off.
And the ending? Way too rushed. I kept thinking, there's more. There has to be more. What about the secret tunnel? Like a famous author once said (and I grossly paraphrase), if you show a gun on the mantel early on, someone better be shooting that gun later.
MAC was high intensity right from the start. From the very first page you are pulled into a gripping tale that is shrouded in conspiracy with the continual possibility of being eliminated until the very end of the book! Whew! It was a very intense read!
Tabitha "TR" Meyers finds herself right in the middle of a conspiracy while working on a local news column. Unbeknownst to her, she is now a target that needs to be eliminated, but Gordon "Mac" MacGregor won't allow TR to die on his watch.
Mac let TR walk away from once before, he's not about to lose her again. Between the two of them, and his team, he knows they can solve why TR has suddenly become a target before it's too late.
What I love about this story is that TR was placed in very dangerous situations and she is just a regular woman, not trained for combat. Lisa Kamps kept that in mind when she wrote TR's state of mind. The level of panic, her emotional state was beautifully written.
I also did not read the prior encounters of Mac and TR before reading this book, but I was not lost. Lisa Kamps wove their backstory throughout this book and I was able to learn their history as their present was developing, so I never felt I was missing out.
Mac and TR's chemistry was off the charts, the plot was intense and I look forward to reading more of Lisa B. Kamps in the future.
Loved this first visit with the cover six security men. Mac and TR’s book continues on from their novella covered by a kiss. TR is a journalist trying to figure out what the senator wants with her and Mac doesn’t trust the senator one bit. What follows is a cat and mouse where someone seems hell bent on harming TR and with Mac getting all bent out of shape trying to protect her. The characters in this are great. I liked the subtle humour and especially the banter between TR and Chaos. Mac is strong, quiet and brooding with a huge heart but he doesn’t believe that his heroic abilities make him worthy of TR’s love and respect. TR thinks Mac is everything and does her utmost to prove to him that he is more than worthy. They make a great couple, their private moments are both hot and heavy but also very tender and heartwarming as Mac navigates the way of the heart and TR gently coaxes him out of his emotional shell. I appreciated the way the ‘baddie’ was portrayed , it kept me guessing and added another level of mystery. Lisa has written a very well plotted, visual book and I found myself totally immersed and vested in the lives of these men and their intense line of work. Looking forward to Daryl and his ‘god complex’😉 I received an arc from the author and am choosing to leave a review.
Gordon “Mac” MacGregor knows what to do in stressful situations. I would compare him to a bulldozer – don’t stand in his way. Tabitha “TR” Meyers has a situation that will get your heart pumping right away. She may seem to have a target on her back but she’s got the best man for the job on her side.
There’s a mystery that we will get deeply involved with right from the beginning. But there are questions that pop up. Who’s the one behind it? Who’s the person behind the voice that’s talking to us – teasing us to keep moving forward? What’s the agenda? And the biggest question for me became, do I really have to get back to work?
I loved learning what this new series may have in store for me. Getting to listen in on one of the villains in this story was a treat. They made it very easy to turn the page. That and the heat that we get to see build between TR and Mac. I even loved the dressing down Mac got by a little slip of a woman – made me wish I was a fly on the wall while that scene took place. By the time I got to the ending I got to giggle then smile. But then I had one last question, “did the author just write a lead in to her next book?”
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
The Protector: MAC (Cover Six Security) by Lisa B. Kamps was a pretty okay fast pace read, that kept me on my toes.
My first read from this author, I didn't know what to expect. After a little bit of an exciting opening, and me being a little too critical, I settled in quite nicely, and I could not put this book down.
Okay you're probably wondering why I was critical, I teach cold water survival so I may have been sitting there going like.. he should be doing this, not that, what the hell don't take her clothes off... and so on.. and then I was like, okay panic has set in, he's not thinking right, and once I got that into my head, and calmed down I fell into the easy writing, the steamy flow and the dangerous mystery.
I have to say, though this was the sixth book in the series, it did read easy like a standalone. Though were somethings that I didn't quite get, but all in all, I loved the plot, the danger and the hotness that was Mac, and all the boys, I mean men, were all hot. I loved all the different personalities, and the strong team work.
Overall this book was worth the chance, and I will be checking out the rest of the books in this series. So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you will fall deep into this action pack, steamy read.
When I read the Novella for this amazing book, I was hooked. I needed to know more about Mac and TR. I needed to know their backstory. I needed to know what made them tick. Most of all I needed to know that they found they're happily ever after with each other. Boy, Lisa B. Kamps did not disappoint.
I loved TR. She's hardworking, driven, and wants Mac. There's just one problem, he acts like he doesn't want her. After a couple of suspicious encounters and emails, TR knows she needs help and the only person who can truly do that is Mac. Mac isn't the man for TR. He knows this, but he may not be able to resist any longer. When it becomes apparent that TR is in danger, Mac does everything he can to protect her and keep her safe. Watching these two fall was simply amazing. They had real chemistry from the start, but Mac didn't feel he deserved someone like TR. He's seen things, done things that no man should ever have to live with, let alone the woman in his life. Once he got past that and opened his heart, I almost wanted to cry!
I loved this story and can't wait to come from this series. I'm so looking forward to watching each and every one of these men fall.
This is not a new author to me, I loved her Baltimore Banner series and her York Bomers series. I was ready and on board to give this series a read. This is book one in the Cover Six series and we are off to a fantastic start. These boys are all business when it comes to their jobs. However, when it comes to giving their hearts away, they will take a piece of yours as well. In this story we meet Gordon "Mac" MacGregor and Tabitha "TR" Meyers. Their story begins in Cover of a Kiss, a little novella to get the series rolling. Anyway, these two characters have decided to leave each other in the friend zone and avoid one another but fate has other plans. TR finds herself in trouble and turns to Mac to help her. Once they begin to figure out what is going and realizing that this is more than they thought and involves an enemy of the past. Both TR and Mac are all in, which seems to also include.their hearts. Now to wrap all this up in a neat little bow in one piece to see if a HEA is in their future. Great read, I am.in for the rest of the series. I cannot wait to get to know the rest of the Cover Six teammates.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
After reading Covered by a Kiss, which is a prequel to this story, I have been looking forward to Mac and (Tabitha) TR’s story!
And what a story it is! Lisa B. Kamps does not disappoint with this one. This is a wonderful start to her new Cover Six Security series!
While I have immensely enjoyed all of the hockey stories she has written, this is something different...darker, more drama, and definitely a mystery.
In this series, the alphas are all former military men specializing in dark ops private security with their firm, Cover Six Security (clever name!).
TR is smart, dedicated to her profession as a reporter who seeks the truth, and resilient.
While Mac tries to minimize his attraction to TR, she breaks down his barriers as they are off for an adventure (along with others from Cover Six) with a mystery to solve. (Being vague to avoid spoilers!). The outcome of the mystery will certainly be a surprise!
Beyond the drama and action, there is a wonderfully touching love story between Mac and TR. it’s a nice balance between drama and romance.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, however, this is my honest opinion.
