To be extremely honest? I don’t see their marriage ever working on a full time basis. Opposite attracts but for these two their core beliefs are on complete opposite of the spectrum. The only reason I felt they worked so long was because hero was a casual employee on the marriage department at best. If they ever try to make a go at even part-time they would explode.

The hero, no matter what he says and how forcefully he says it, never believed the h to be his equal, while TBH she was way more superior than he was. He never disclosed his financial standing clearly in fear of her expenditure . Yet even in his own head he could not justify him thinking of her as a spendthrift. He is pissed that she can always justify her spending but until the last chapter he never thought that it was really her who looked at the whole picture when making those purchases. Not him. He looks at the bigger picture of what could potentially go wrong. Which is a bias. Not sound logic. He mentioned couple of times that their money belongs to both yet NEVER failed to criticise her after each purchase which she HAD to make without him because that’s how her reality was. He still learns nothing after a life altering situation and abandoned her when they were still fresh out of multiple traumas. On top of that he lost his head and screamed at her for rescheduling a surgery they agreed on saying she should have thought about discussing it with him first. Yet only two chapters earlier he yelled at her for not going through with the same surgery not asking for the reason. He hated counselling because it showed he needed to work on himself and there was no indication he was warming up to it by the end. He never cared for the h’s dreams. Fully expected her to give them up to follow his, and then be ok with being the sole leader of the household. Yet he lost it every time when she DID make a decision lamenting over how she spent HIS money. And I’ll be honest with you. NOTHING changed throughout the book. You cannot have someone not working through their issue in their head completely and expect me to swallow their change when they chase after their job spouse when they irrevocably kicked their hiney and dumped them off. That reeks desperation not love.

The h on the other hand was a complete idiot. She needed to start standing up for herself from the absolute beginning and draw the line up to which the H was allowed to worry about her spending and spoil their daughters. Her want for a fifth kid with an absentee husband was stupid at best, selfish at worst. She cannot keep having kids because she wants a “baby” in the house. Her issues with the H was absolutely not resolved and without the counselling as an option they will have nothing substantial to build on.

The H finally gave in about the ranch because he DID want a ranch and they’re still recovering from trauma and the h just showed him she will just drop his hiney in a blink and she will cut off her nose in spite of her face just to prove her point and prove his assholeness.

So, this is what I see for the future. He’d be deployed, she’d be saddled with 5 kids and a ranch. He’ll come home and make snide comments about the general ranch necessity purchase. Spoil the kids more. And she’ll be done. She now has more to go than 12 hours a week at the library. She’s too tired to be wooed by monkey sex. The tractor is getting delivered tomorrow. Unless he wants to give her a foot massage and a run her a hot bath, she doesn’t want to know. One of the daughters almost has an accident with the horse daddy bought her and she took her out after her curfew because daddy said she can. A questionable young man was involved. The h loses her shit. Kicks the husband out. Marries her foreman after respectable interval. He adores her because she’s amazing and makes solid decisions. He’ll trust her with his life so why wouldn’t he trust her with his money. The H files for joint custody but given the fact he is absentee and not of sound judgement, he’s only given visitation rights. He did get to keep most his money. But he really has nothing to do with them anymore. He also doesn’t have a home to come back to, as he no longer has a dutiful wife to keep everything ready for him. The kids find a better role model in the step dad.

This is a SEAL romance with a difference as the couple concerned are already married and have four children. However, the constant secret missions and time apart are taking their toll on their marriage, especially from Teri's point of view. She's the one that keeps things running at home and when he returns Mac tends to try to take over, especially regarding their finances, but he is always the one the children can get their own way with. He isn't used to juggling the every day activities and, by the time he's getting used to it all, he's off on another mission for an unspecified time. When he comes home and finds she's left their children with his parents and gone to stay on the Wyoming ranch they'd talked about revisiting together he is determined to discover why she's gone without him, not realising the trauma she's had whilst he's been away. Can they listen to each other and rekindle their romance or will tempers get in the way? Will her latest spend drive them further apart or be a chance to get them back together again? Will he even listen?

There's unexpected danger for them both, a perilous natural event that will need his SEAL team to come to their rescue in this dramatic story. This is an unpredictable story filled with dramatic contrasts, heartbreaking at some times, heartwarming at others . . . . full of conflict, then full of love. It is a story that really demonstrates that communication is the key to keeping romance alive and sorting out problems. The suspense element makes this a real page turner and highlights the importance of every member of a team working together - be that as a married couple, a family or a SEAL team. It is a story filled with suspense, peril, action and love - a great read.

His to Claim by Brenda Jackson is an adventure filled ‘marriage in trouble’ romance for a husband and wife who’ve already gotten their happy ending, but have discovered that real life can still take its toll.

Mac, a Navy SEAL, has returned from his most recent tour of duty (an eight month assignment during which he’d had no contact with his family) to discover that his wife has gone on a solo vacation, leaving their four daughters with his parents. Anxious to be reunited with Teri, his wife of ten years, he follows her to the ranch where she’s getting some much needed rest and relaxation and learns that while he was away, she’d suffered a miscarriage.

Teri is coping with her grief and her apprehension about telling her husband that she’s made some big financial purchases while he’s been away, specifically buying her childhood ranch which had been out of the family for some time. His sudden appearance on her doorstep gladdens her heart but also puts everything in the forefront. Facing their future and the elements together will require all their wits, help from their friends, and a willingness to compromise if they’re going to find their way back to the honeymoon stage of their marriage.

OMG the constant whining! Are these two really adults? I get the need for Teri to escape because I've been there, but you also need to be an adult and understand you have responsibilities. While her loss was tremendous, to up and run away isn't the answer.

But then Mac finally finds her but rather than sitting down to talk about why she's hours away from their children, why his parents are taking care of their kids and what she was thinking, they go straight to sex. Part of me understood this, especially since it had been 8 or 9 months since they saw each other. But then it kept happening, without them talking about the elephant in the room.

This is where you lost me.

3.25 stars.

I had to knock Stars off for the redundancy of information. We were beat over the head with the same information over and over. It was like the information was used as filler.

This story is about a marriage really. Two people who are apart for long periods of time, due to Mac being a Navy Seal, and when they come back together, as husband and wife, they bump heads. Mac is overbearing and too controlling. Teri is doing her best raising 4 girls practically on her own with the occasional help of her in-laws.

I didn’t care for Mac’s attitude. Yes, he means well and wants what’s best for his family, but he needed to give Teri wayyyy more credit and consideration.

I can’t wait for Sheriff Pete’s story May 2020

Everything felt overly explained and redundant. Plus, they were both uninteresting to me. They never communicated well and yet that’s what the entire book was about, Mac winning his wife back. However, all their talks were cut by constant thoughts about how sexy the other was and sex. And even though he kept thinking he’d not given her proper due, he still kept thinking of her as not spending money right, even getting mad at her for the ranch and yet not telling her about his investments. If he thinks of her as a partnership, he never acted like it. It was like she needed to roll over on his every whim and be thankful for it. It was frustrating.

She's ready to run. He's desperate to keep her. Can they find some middle ground? Brenda Jackson turns love into an adventure. Mac and Teri have come to a crossroads. Save their marriage or walk away. The situation becomes intense rather quickly, when an act of nature forces them to face some hard truths about their relationship as they end up having to fight for their lives. His to Claim is an unpredictable, firestorm that fluctuates between steamy romance and chilly heartache. Turbulent, temptation with a twist.

It's been a very long minute since I read anything by author Brenda Jackson and I must say I did miss her stories.

Mac McRoy is a great father to his children but has grossly taken for granted his wife. After returning home from an 8-month trip overseas, he is given six months of vacation for himself and his Navy Seal team. But opening that door and discovering his parents are watching the children and his wife left to get away, sends Mac in a tailspin and he goes after Teri. But once finding her Mac finds out that major damage has been done in their marriage, and the warnings that he received from his teammates are roaring loudly in his ears now.

Can Mac and Teri save their marriage? Before that question could be answered they find themselves in the middle of danger and desperately trying to make it out alive.

A great story about love, marriage, and the challenges that come with it, especially once the honeymoon phase is over with and the responsibilities of being parents oftentimes take the couple away from who they are, to themselves, and to each other.

Despite my lack of interest in contemporary, second chance romance novels (not that I’m sure this one qualifies since they’re still married??), I tried to keep an open mind with this one because book club. But this was bad. I found the characters unsympathetic and their conflicts could have been easily resolved with something most adults do - have a conversation.

There is nothing like a Jackson romance novel. The character development was stellar. The storyline was different from other Jackson novels and that was refreshing. Absolutely loved this romance.

The fourth book of the Westmoreland Legacy Series features Navy SEAL, Thurston McRoy, aka Mac. After an eight month classified operation, Mac is finally home in Virginia where his wife, Teri and their four daughters live while he is living his dream of being a SEAL. HIS TO CLAIM is not only an enjoyable Contemporary Romance story, but it also presents a believable glimpse at the challenges and experiences of a military wife.

Out of the four Westmoreland Legacy stories, this one is my favorite. In true Brenda Jackson style this story is packed with romance, passion, conflict, real-life issues, and suspense. Add an amazing Epilogue that depicts Bane and Crystal Westmoreland hosting a family and friends gathering that includes the Navy SEAL team members and their families, the Denver, Atlanta, Texas, Montana, Westmorelands, and the Alaska Westmorelands who are also known as the Outlaws. It’s an enjoyable scene of celebration and collaboration! Not only does the Epilogue unite the Westmoreland families along with the Navy SEAL families, but it also gives an eye-opening preview of the next Brenda Jackson book which will feature Sheriff Pete Higgins, who is like a member of the Westmoreland family.

HIS TO CLAIM is a compelling well-written story that draws you in from the first chapter and keeps you engaged until the last chapter with its wonderful HEA. I recommend it for your reading pleasure.

This was a little different than most romances in that the couple was already married and had children and there didn't really seem to be any serious threat of them divorcing. They loved each other deeply and were desperately attracted to each other. So the tension in the story came from them learning to have a healthy relationship after 10 years of growing apart. It wasn't really a question of whether they would break up, it was more a question of whether they would be happy together or miserable.

Mac is a Navy SEAL who is deployed for months at a time with no communication to his wife Teri. Between his absences and the demands of raising four children they have stopped communicating and Teri has lost her own identity. She wants to reclaim some of who she used to be, the cowgirl that Mac fell in love with, but she's not sure how to do it and fears that doing so will destroy her marriage. This book is part of the Westmoreland series which is apparently Brenda Jackson's epic series of MANY books. Since this was my first exposure to that series, I was a little lost when they referenced other characters. I am sure that fans of the Westmoreland series will love seeing some of their favorite characters again. Kudos for showing romance alive and well in a marriage between mature adults and for telling a story of how they couple worked on taking care of their marriage.

Absolutely love Mac and Teri's passion, commitment and their courage to stay and work on the marriage when it is so easy just to walk away.

I get that Mac is an Alpha Male and he protects what's his, BUT when you are a Navy Seal away from home 8 months at a time, there are decisions that MUST be made in your absence. So show some appreciation for Teri stepping up to the plate and handling the family business.

Really good to catch up with Bane and the rest of the Navy crew.

O.k. I've told you all I've skipped pages but what is sad is that I had to do it! Ms.Jackson is a formidable writer, but her last few books have been missing that fast pace, unable to put the book down novel. The story was just full of descriptive thing and thoughts of what the characters were doing with very little written verbal interaction.

Sweet story. Would love to live that life minus Mac's inability to understand that in a relationship decisions have to be made by one person if the other person is gone for a considerable amount of time. The other person should just support said decisions good or bad if they were made with the consciousness of what's best for the family. Not all things turn out the way we hope they do.

Legendary romance author Brenda Jackson is back with a scorching summer sizzler guaranteed to touch the heart and hold readers in thrall: His To Claim, the latest seductive stand-alone Westmoreland Legacy installment readers will not be able to put down.

His job and his family are the two greatest loves of Mac McRoy’s life. Mac is passionate about his job as a Navy Seal and he absolutely cannot imagine ever doing anything else other than serving his country by undertaking dangerous assignments which take him all over the world. Ever since he was a child at his grandfather’s knee, Mac had wanted to be a military man and he is still as dedicated to his job all these years later as he was when he first started. His family give Mac a reason to return back to his wife and kids time and time again. When Mac had clapped eyes on his wife Teri at a rodeo, it had been love at first sight. After a whirlwind courtship, the two had married and quickly got started on making a family of her own. Returning back from his latest assignment in Libya, Mac is looking forward to hugging his kids and making passionate love to his wife, but he is flabbergasted when, on his return, he finds his parents at his house who tell him that his wife has gone to a Wyoming dude ranch and that they are looking after the kids. Mac is not a man who gives up easily and he will not rest until he tracks down his wife and brings her back home. But is their marriage over for good? Or will Mac be able to convince her that a love like theirs is worth fighting for?

Teri loves her husband, but she is sick and tired of coming second to her his career. When they had first got married, Teri had absolutely no qualms about giving up on her own hopes and dreams to look after her husband, the kids and the family home, however, lately she cannot help but feel restless. She has sacrificed so much for the sake of her husband and her marriage and has grown weary of coming second place in her husband’s life. Going to her roots back to a Wyoming dude ranch was a way for her to take some time out to figure out what she is going to do next, so when Mac turns up she isn’t best pleased. As the incendiary attraction that sizzles between them instantly ignites, Teri and Mac soon find themselves giving into temptation. But is desire enough to keep them together? Will Mac continue to put his job before his own family? Or can they find a way back to be together again?

When life or death circumstances put their relationship to the test, will Teri and Mac end up losing the love of a lifetime? Or will fate give them a second chance at happiness?

His to Claim is a brilliant contemporary romance readers will not be able to put down. Sexy, emotional and far too good to miss, His To Claim is a fantastic tale of second chances, healing from old wounds and the power of love written with plenty of style and flair. Best-selling author Brenda Jackson is on top form with His to Claim and she has penned an emotional, compelling and scintillating read readers won’t be able to resist. With a sexy hero, a smart heroine and plenty of pathos, heart and charm, His To Claim is another winner from Brenda Jackson’s talented pen!

I am already not on this man's side. "Oh I resent my child for having her own room and not sharing with THREE OTHER PEOPLE because I want my Man Cave." "I get to do this dangerous career where I don't get to communicate with my family at all. This is not a problem at all." "I can't trust my wife to pick out a house we sorely need while I'm away for god knows how long and god knows where." Hate this man. I'm probably not going to finish it because we all know how this shit will end.

Oh, my lord, it gets worse. He didn't want the little one to go to daycare. He didn't want his wife to work outside the home. His wife had a whole ass career that she had to leave for him. He hated marriage counseling so they can't go again. Oh god. This is horrible tradwife propaganda and I'm going to have to stop reading this so I can imagine a world where she dumps his ass and gets to be her fully realized self.

WHY AM I STILL READING THIS. She SOLD HER FAMILY RANCH FOR HIM. He is stifling his daughter's career ambitions because they're the same as his wife's career. Help me. Someone take this book away from me. He is never going to get this comeuppance, is he. Help me.

Some boys take a beautiful girl and hide her away from the rest of the world. --Cyndi Lauper

Also the military propaganda is gross. I hate this America-centric of "us vs the (usually Middle Eastern) bad guys". I hate the "we are brothers Because We Are SEALS." What about the work the US does to destabilize countries and bring in authoritarian regimes, and totally screw over the people there. What about the rampant sexual assault and sexual harassment in the military. Can't stand military or cop apologia in my fucking romance novels.

"Not sure I'm ready to compete with my baby for these breasts." If I said what I really thought of this man, I would catch a ban.

Frankly, this is abuse. Financial abuse. Sexual abuse and coercion (him demanding sex despite her no, her feeling like she couldn't back out of a surgery). Boundary-stomping. This man is disgusting. I don't have words to describe my sorrow for this woman who married him and the daughters who have to deal with him as a father.

Oh wait oh my god I get it. The book is like "give up every last goddamn part of yourself for your husband and maybe he'll eventually see the light and give you everything you want back." This is the worst kind of tradwife propaganda, abuse apologia.

In some cultures, the woman has full control over the money and the household spending. The husband just earns it and receives a monthly allowance from her. Frankly, he could take a page out of their book.

His To Claim is an awesome story, That was easy read that will keep you turning pages for more.

Mac a navy seal, a hot sexy Alpha with a loving heart. Mac loved his family, but he and his wife Teri are trying to keep their marriage together. Mac needs to increase his faith in Teri and what she does for their family while he is off protecting our country.

Teri is the true meaning of “she who holds the family together”. Teri is battling her own fears of loss of the son her and Mac has always wanted, to making a huge decision for their families future.

From the being of His to Claim I could see how much Mac and Teri loved each other, as well as see the battle they both are about to face as a healing moment for them. Mac you see is really trying to let loose of the reins a bit. After all Teri does it all on her own in his absence.Teri needs to come clean with Mac in order for them to make it. Can Mac and Teri come to an agreement?

Supporting characters gave Mac and Teri a solid support system Bane, Viper, Coop, Flipper and Nick are Mac’s Seal team. They help Mac see that he is the one who needs to pay attention to what Teri is saying even if it is without words.

His to Claim has so many plot twist I could not put this book down. Ms. Jackson yet again gave us a story that we can sink our teeth in. Finally we get more of Mac and Teri’s story. They have their issues from the beginning, but can their love for each other see them through this storm? It was truly nice revisiting the other couples from the previous books in the The Westmoreland Legacy Series.

This story was very good and would have gotten a higher rating if the technical flaws had not diminished the reading enjoyment. The plot was good and well paced, and the characters were likable. However, the description of the military was inaccurate and this reader found it very annoying. For example, navy is a color, Navy is a military service. Or, the members of the Sea, Air Land (SEAL) Teams don't refer to themselves as SEALs (which in this story almost made it sound like the animal), but refer to themselves in the generic "Special Ops." So, these eye-rolling flaws made reading the story disjointed and annoying. In this reviewer's opinion, it reduces the likelihood that this reader will seek out more to read by the author of this story.

However, flaws aside, the redeeming quality of this book was that it was a married couple, going through the ups and downs of keeping a challenging relationship on track and re-kindling their love for each other. That's a refreshing change from the typical troupes found in contemporary romance stories. This reader enjoyed the candid dialogue between the main characters, and the mature way they handled situations. It was great to see characters admit that they are imperfect and make real effort to improve. In the story, when the life-threatening events happen, each partner is able to depend on the other and that strengthens the bonds they have with one another.

Overall, it was a good story but, it lacked good attention to details.

Oh Lord so well worth the wait!
I saw this book on my Tablet around midnight and started to read and ended up not putting it down until around 4:am when I could no longer keep my eyes open. I so loved this story.
Before I pen my review, allow me to say I wish the Westmoreland 's and their friends were a real life family that I could meet and get to know! Whew! now that that's said let me get to Mac and Teri's story. Throughout the other Seal team member's stories it was always referenced the strong wills of both Mac and Teri and in their story we were able to see those strong wills at work. One theme that played out from beginning to the end is the love these two have for each other, their girls, his parents and all of their extended family which mainly consist of his team members and their families and childhood friends they have all kept in contact with. Right here is a good place to state Mrs. Jackson that I pray there is always a Westmoreland or friend of a Westmoreland 's story to be told. My first foray into the romance genre when I retired in 2011 was a book by you on the Madaris family and I have been a Brenda Jackson fan every since and have never regretted one moment of being your fan. Thank you for eight years and over a hundred books of reading pleasure!!! Now on to Pete Higgins' story. He is another childhood friend of the Westmorelands that we have been introduced to over the years. Great story and another best seller for sure!!!!!
