It's a great book for anyone interested in indian equity markets.
Authors have focused on the standard set of questions. It's like every individual is having same bat, same ball , same environmental conditions but playing style is drastically different. Everyone has his own style, temperament , experience upbringing. All these things probably contribute in development of investment philosophy.
Investors have used leveraged positions , played with culyclicals and commodities, they have shorted the market, many of them have traded, have used options and futures, jumped in and out with cash, have been wrong several number of times. On personal level these things gave me some comfort as I was struggling with few thoughts about the ground rules of investments..

This book introduces investor to various different styles. Most of masters have provided lot of material and case studies to build thoughts about their styles.

A must read for every single investor in the market. This books deep dives into the minds of India's finest and helps one gain market wisdom that we would otherwise take many decades to build through experience.

Key questions to be answered after a read:

1) What is my temparement as an investor?
2) Do I want outsized gains of just 10% returns
3) How do I visualise market cycles and my behaviour?
4) What is my overall investing style and what is the framework I follow
5) How to be a learning machine

This book consists of 11 not so known but very successful Indian investors who created massive wealth in Indian stock market despite begining with not so huge capital.
Every investors have cultivated their own framework of screening the stock.

The interviews have been very insightful, getting to know their multibagger stock, their screening criteria for picking stocks, risk/reward ratio and interesting perspective about their thoughts towards market in general.

3 chapter that stand out - Hiren ved, Kenneth andrade and anil goel.

"The problem arises when an investor says that I want to invest everywhere. If you go for a dinner and try to eat everything, you will not enjoy anything
Indian investors must read- will definitely broaden your thought process.

I really like the format of the book, it is an easy "immersive" read and once in a while you almost feel like you are sitting next to the interviewee and talking to him (him, yes, no female investor unfortunately).

The book interviews 11 investors and agreeably, almost all of them are quite different in their investing style and idea generation. I think the discussion with Mr. Rajashekhar Iyer was the best since he was quite specific about how he goes about investing, what are the key things to look out for and so on - it was a much more useful discussion as compared to several others who talked more about their behavioral patterns (i doubled down, was worried but backed myself / my confidence etc). I agree that attitude is important - as almost every interviewee displayed these characteristics in their journey, but for a reader, it gets way too repetitive and got me a feeling of lacking substance by the time i was in the 4/5 chapter.
My 0.2c to the author for their 2nd edition would be to cut short the journey and focus more on the aspects on the technical aspects in their edits / new interviewees.

The discussion with Mr. Kenneth Andrade and Mr. Ramesh Damani was as enjoyable for similar reasons.

Overall, A GREAT BOOK, I have already recommended it to 3-4 of my friends, while my comments talk about the minor flaws, it is more because i want the authors to read it and understand where I am coming from.
Cheers!

Truly a masterclass. Has to be one of the best investment related books ever written for Indian readers.

An excellent book! The next best thing to having these investors share their experiences with you personally. The authors being investors themselves have asked the right questions that all investors can relate to.

The most basic insight from the book is that there is no single formula to succeed in the markets, each of the profiled investors has

managed to find their own unique ways to excel. The common denominator is passion and sheer hard work needed to get an edge.

The profiled investors also believe that there will be no dearth of opportunities in the coming years , this is good news but investors should not think this to mean that opportunities will appear in the same form as that 20 years ago, with PMS funds launched every day one is not likely to get the next Bajaj Finance at single digit PEs.

The biggest reason for the phenomenal success of the profiled investors is not investing in the right stocks 20 or 30 years ago but simply investing at a time when no one was!

So much to learn from the history of the Indian markets;
and finally, there is a book that covers quite a few old investors.

Some of their stories are fantastic and unbelievable; and after 20+ years in the business, they see the merit of a good business over any other factor.
And of course, what has helped is that India has been a success story.

Notes for me:
Everyone has an ability to say no
Everyone chooses different companies in general
There are different styles/ leverage/ time horizons; but the long term seems to be a common style

These are the select few who
1. Didnt lose their nerve in bad times and bad news
2. Stayed away from fads
so, what we have is a survivorship bias - but its easy to see why they survived.

Going to read it again.

Just outstanding! The book content consists of sharing of real life experience of long time experts in markets that one does not get by reading 'do it yourself' type of books and watching YouTube videos. I had many of my questions answered in multiple different ways. But make sure, that the basics of stock Investing is understood before reading, or else one might not understand.

Just completed Chapter 2 and the discussion with Raamdeo Agrawal and the book is underwhelming. There are no actionable ideas and even the interviewers seem clueless about what makes a good interview.
