Rainbow Brite is a magical girl! I guess Murky's always been a mad scientist, but this reboot feels super tropey. I wonder how closely the new characters in this volume will resemble their older version counterparts.

I am loving these comics as the story develops! The artistic styling of these characters which have been beloved for most of my life was at first a bit discomforting (first Twink, then Murky, specifically) but they are growing on me. The story arc makes me think of the origin story of Netflix's "She-Ra" including the use of a young woman who is deliberately "ageless" and thus may appeal to a broad audience. The artwork - including the gorgeous cover art - is also a necessity to any Rainbow Brite fan. I'm so happy to see Hallmark loosen their vice grips on the Rainbow Brite franchise a bit in order to allow for this comic. I've missed her and she was largely absent from the past decade's resurgence of 80s iconic stars. Yay, Rainbow!

In volume 3, Wisp finally gets to rescue the puppy she was so concerned about in volume 2, but then the dog promptly disappeared without explanation. I'm sure she'll be back, though.

So the duo has recovered the Rainbow Brite scepter, but they still need the belt. They go to the Red Mesas to enlist the help of the Red Color Guard, Red Flare. I'm glad to finally meet another member of the team!

Really beautiful art and a story that makes you want to keep reading. Can't wait for the next issue!

Wait...

Story is good and so is the art. I'm curious if that was puppy bride or not. So with with "Red Flare" umm no. It's Red Butler, Don t mess with him!!! Hopefully that changes as I'm not fond of the name or character design.

I've always secretly loved Lurky and thought he could be a good guy if given the chance. Glad that's still true here! And I'm into the new identity for Red Butler as Red Flare, too! ❤️
