It is no secret that I am a fan-girl of this author, but this one was a little bit darker than her normal reads.
Though she's no stranger to the hurt/comfort trope, this one felt so real to me, because these were just every day people, but heroes, or unlikely heroes LOL, except Dalton kind of was, eh? He was the ultimate hero. I kind of loved him.
We first meet Dalton when he accepts a random call on his mobile, thinking that he's getting a crank call from a number that's one digit off from his own phone number. When the guy on the other end pretends to have a conversation with him, he realizes something's wrong, just in time for the guy to shout his name and location before a scuffle and then the line goes dead.
Dalton is a private investigator, so his skill set is sharp and he finds Kannon quickly, though it's too late, he's already been seriously violated and is unconscious. When the cops get there, they think HE did it, but all is quickly rightened before they take KAnnon to the hospital.
I love the kind of instant connection stories where we don't have to follow them in their lives together before they meet. This one was kind of action from the very beginning, and Dalton can't understand why he keeps needing to check on Kannon, and Kannon is subconsciously connected to Dalton because he makes him feel safe.
There is a bit of white knight syndromy in the beginning and it's mentioned in there, I had to look it up...
Apparently, it's a real thing!
HOwever, I don't feel like that takes anything from their relationship... they'd gone through a great deal together and I would think that would bond you with anyone who saved our life and vicea versa.
So, I would say that if you want to laugh, cry and be left with another great happily ever after, you've come to the right place.
I think I'll go make me a man sandwich and for the next one... I can't decide if I want it to be Weston and the young kidnapped man, or Dalton's brother Dylan and the cop. Either one would be aces by me.
5 well deserved stars, bravo!
