Standing in the Light is hard, especially when everyone assumes you’re capable of Darkness. And maybe I am.

My name is Sabine McGunther Barlow, the daughter of our Coven leader and an apprentice white witch. Everyone expects me to follow in my mother’s footsteps, but walking the path of light magic isn’t easy. I mean, who wants to be perfect all the time? Like any other teenager, I have my faults, and every so often, my curiosity gets the better of me. But, I try to stick to the path of light.

Then, my coven’s ceremonial tools disappear, and all fingers point to me, the bad seed. How do I prove my innocence when even my mother thinks I’m guilty?

Sabine is a typical teenager if you ignore the fact that she's a white witch-in-training and her mother is the coven leader. And that she's expected to be the next leader. But really, she's a typical teen full of curiosity and a touch of a rebellious streak and maybe a hint of darkness. She tries to be good, it's just so hard. But then the coven's two most important ceremonial tools go missing and her mother believes that she is responsible. Sabine tries to convince her mother of her innocence but soon finds herself on lockdown. How can she prove her innocence this time?

This short story is the collaboration of two very talented writers. It's a teaser, an appetizer for the series to come. It's just enough to draw you in and leave you anticipating the first full book. Sabine is going to be a handful. Can't wait to see what types of messes she gets into. Not exactly a huge fan of her mother (more coven leader, less a mom) but I did like Hattie. I'm intrigued by the white, gray, black magic. I can already tell I am not capable of being totally white. This should be a good one!

Spite is a short story prequel that introduces Sabine, a teenager living in a white witch coven, of which her mom is the leader. The story sets up an intriguing premise for the full series, with a world of black, grey and white witches and the different kinds of magic they practice. I’ve always loved the paranormal world of witches and magic in books, so between that and the background and hints of the conflicts to come that are given in this story, I suspect I will enjoy this series.

Not everything is black and white!

LA and Lyn are quite the pair as they present us with this teaser!  I can tell this is going to be an epic tale of white and black magic and the grey in between. I am on the edge of my seat wondering how soon the full length book will be out.  Both of these authors are fantastic on their own.  I am excited to see what they are doing together!

I'm not sure I would call this book 1, more like book .5 as it's a short story to kick off a new series. The plot has a good premise and I'm interested in reading more in this series, but seriously, if the rest of the books are as short as this one it might kill me. I hate serials and it has a bit of a serial feel to it.
