Good plot, very simple writing. It seemed to be written on an eighth grade level with some adult themes mixed in. I see lots of overwritten books these days but few underwritten ones. This was skeletal.

This outstanding story certainly sets the bar kinda high for other western writers to compete, or maybe it is just to unfair for them to even try. Sensational story from beginning to end, and there is just enough suspenseful episodes to maintain the reader's undivided attention from beginning to end. If you love excitement, then hope aboard with Dred and enjoy the ongoing, somewhat suspenseful, episodes.

I have been an avid reader of Mr. R. O. Lane for awhile, but this one, as my Mama use to say, "takes the cake!" Dred is an excellent character selection, and Mr. Lane definitely uses his so well from beginning to end. Definitely five stars worthy. Too, all characters were perfectly selected throughout this masterpiece of old American western folklore adventures. Too, Abby and Emma were definitely befitting of their roles, also. Mr. Lane, as always perfected the storylines successfully for each and every individual's individual's assigned role!
This is one of the most heartwarming experiences I have had the opportunity to read, and most of the stories were family-friendly oriented adventures, and the family camaraderie is definitely enough to pacify the most demanding reader's greatest expectations. Each exciting episode is definitely entertainment personified!
Definitely recommend this compassionate, and heartwarming, masterpiece to everyone, regardless of your reading preference. There is ongoing adventures from beginning to end, and the excitement never ceases. If you fail to read this book then you have missed the opportunity of reading an outstanding portrayal of romance, gunfights and ongoing entertaining adventures l

A very interesting story by a great story teller who sets this tale in a particular time in history.
Dred is a professional gambler discovers a mute little girl who had been terribly abused. He adopts her as his own and cares for and about her. Emma thrives on his love and attention. Dred is wealthy and doesn't need to gamble anymore so spends his time and money on Emma. He meets Abby and they fall in love and become a family of three. Dred encounters outlaws and kills them as he works to create a home for his young family. Outlaws capture Abby and Emma but Dred is able to rescue them and dispose of the outlaws. They enjoy the best of life provided by Dred's gambling wins and create a happy family.
Easy to read and enjoyable. The author is a great story teller.

R O writes the best damned books and I've enjoyed every single one, I haven't had the best luck with Kindle taking my information so I didn't judge many of his books, I love the way he t rise to include children in his stories. If you would send him my email address, I'd really appreciate communicating with him....it's scotshot1@att.net. Thank you! Here we go again they want me to write 20 more words, how crazy is that, seems awfully silly to me, why do they do ghat

What the hell are you doing, Kindle? You're making a hash of this whole process ....I probably won't review any books because of this.......

Dred Jones

Dred had somewhat of a gift, for numbers, which made him quite a poker player. He was a man who was not to be messed with also. He just did not know that he had a hole in his life until he found the tiny little girl on the praise who could not talk. Life sure did get interesting in a hurry. It's a great read.

Conclusion "thumbs up"

Enjoyed the book , the theme and the characters. I am not sure a fiction book would rate a 5 star rating with me . I tend to be a poor reviewer because I may be too harsh and being a pilot and a old combat infantry vet I look for mistakes. I hope 4 stars will suffice for a very good author..

I really like this book

This story could have actually happened. It is a well written story. Good characters, good country, it has it all. The little girl that was so mistreated by her stepfather has the fortunate luck of being saved by the main character of the story. Well you'll see.......

Love rises above everything

When you read, like I do I try to become the main character. Fred was easy, I sincerely loved rambling along with him in every way. When he found Emma I cried and was hoping he would keep her and then he met his future wife and I felt the same. You will love this story!

Action packed western and story of devotion to family

Very vivid description of the unique circumstances that bring these three together and their determination to protect one another. The author takes you from situations of terrible circumstances to almost impossible rescues and determination to protect one another.

Great book great story enjoyed the easy read. Liked the fact you didn’t go into every minute detail as some books do it gets a bit drawn out and you re itching to get onto the next part of the story. Your books are well balanced for the reader giving enough info so they are not boring. Wish I could write one myself! Thank you sally

One Fine Story

Mr Lane is a great story teller with a great imagination. I have read about twenty of his books 📚 and they are all filled with great characters and adventures. This one is a sweet story of a gambler who finds a five year old abandoned orphan who he adopts and changes his life.

Good story but slow in action

The story line is interesting and the author’s style is outstanding. Notwithstanding, the plot gets boring at times and gives the reader the feeling that the writing is just more grasping for more pages without adding to the attractiveness of the story.

Dred Jones

I enjoy a good western. I have been looking for an author I could enjoy for the long haul. Even though this book was a simple read, it had a good story and, good morals. The action was good and the author threw in a few plot twists. I enjoyed the book and will try others by this author. A 4.3 out of 5 rating.

Wonderful book

2strong females, one a child. Hero very respectful of the woman and female child. Good plot. Villainous villains. Not too complex a plot which is what I like. Some relationship stuff and some shoot-em-up stuff! A good mix!
