A readable, that is, not a chore to read, translation. The introduction is informative of the context surrounding Albero’s life, particularly of local circumstances. As for the text itself, it paints Albert as the model Prince-Bishop and, as a layman, I do not disbelieve that picture. Albero made a name for himself during the investiture controversy working against the emperor, but also, throughout his life, worked closely with and against the secular powers for power, territory and wealth. This strikes me as very worldly but I don’t doubt his sincerity of faith nor in following the reform camp.
