Stuck in a storm … with a handsome stranger! Melody Connelly, the Broadway singing star with a heart of gold, is back with a romance of her own! Two years after first visiting Heartsprings Valley, Melody has bought and restored a grand Victorian home just outside of town. As the holiday draws near, she’s busy getting her new home ready to host her mom for the best Christmas ever. But when a winter storm hits, Melody finds herself snowbound with James, a handsome furniture craftsman. Surprised by their unexpected connection, Melody believes the universe is nudging her toward romance — until a blast from the past throws everything into doubt. Now Melody must Does her dream of a perfect Christmas include a chance at romance? The Heartsprings Valley Sweet Romance series celebrates love and romance during the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas to the Rescue! (Book 1) A Very Cookie Christmas (Book 2) Sweet Apple Christmas (Book 3) I Dream of Christmas (Book 4) It's always Christmas in Heartsprings Valley!
Of the four books I've read in this series this one is my least favorite. The beginning of the story was good I thought but as the ending rolled around I'd already found things I wasn't impressed with. Melody Connelly, the Broadway singer and actress was a secondary character in book two of the series. She moved to the main character in I Dream of Christmas. I found her habit of calling everyone darling to be very irritating. I hadn't noticed it too much as she made her debut in book two but as the main character it was very annoying to this reader. I mean how many actresses go around calling everyone darling ,unless of course it was Eva Gabor! I enjoyed the other books in this series because they seemed to be wholesome stories about a small town and the people that made up the community. In this book I found there was all this talk about the universe controlling people's destiny. What does that mean? As a Christian I feel that God controls our lives, not the universe that He created. Then something else was the mention of whiskey which surprised me since the other two stories seemed to be wholesome romance books. Melody Connelly returns to Heartsprings Valley and buys a huge Victorian house in much need of repairs. She wants a place to escape the pressures of her career in Broadway and life in the city of New York. She fell in love with the town of Heartstrings Valley two years ago and she loves the community there. Before leaving New York for the holiday spent in Heartstrings Valley her former boyfriend Derek Davies, famous movie star , asked her to go back with him. While in town she checked on how the renovation on her new house is going. While there she meets a new man who is working on her house and they become attracted to each other. Now Melody is at a place where she must decide between Derek and this new man. This is contemporary romance. As I previously said, this was not my favorite book in the series. Readers of contemporary romance might enjoy it more than I did. I downloaded a Kindle ebook copy of this book from Amazon . A favorable review was not requested. All opinions expressed and shared here in this review are my own.
This sweet romance is truly a delightful treat to read. The characters are vivid and so endearing, and the storyline is simple and irresistible. Melody is a popular star on Broadway. She has just finished her run on Broadway and is now eager to settle into her new home in Heartsprings Valley, in time to celebrate Christmas. She has invited her mother and stepfather to spend the holidays with her in hopes of repairing her strained relationship with her mother. Among the crew who have been refurbishing her old Victorian home is James, a talented carpenter and furniture builder. When an ice storm traps them at her home, the spend much of their time talking and getting to know each other better. The attraction is mutual and both are interested in the other. Yet there is a complication...her ex, a famous movie star, wants her back and is not above grand gestures to entice her back to him. Who will Melody choose? Can her mother and Melody find a way to mend their mother/daughter bond? This skillfully crafted book highlights the importance of friends and family, be they old or new, especially around the holidays. A little romance just adds to the magic of the season. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Probably my least-favorite of the series so far. I found Melody's constant "Darling" to be so annoying. I also found myself wondering if the author has ever actually been in a winter house with the power out. Most country houses are on wells, run with an electric pump, so when the power goes out you don't have water (leading to many childhood memories of "there's a big storm coming, fill the bathtub!" LOL). And even houses that are on city water will no longer have hot water the next day.
I also thought all the talk about what "the universe" was trying to tell Melody felt a little weird.
Still a perfectly pleasant little romance, but a few more niggling annoyances for me than the other books.
I Dream of Christmas is a delightful and charming addition to The Heartsprings Valley Sweet Romance series. It can also be read as a stand-alone but part of this books charm is the characters we met in previous books. Melody's return to Heartsprings Valley does not go quite the way she planned as the universe clearly had other ideas. This is a brilliant, sweet book with depth and humour, it is definitely more than just a Christmas story. The characters are like old friends and this is a small town that you will want to live in. I loved this book, and the whole series and cannot wait for my next visit. I thoroughly recommend this book for any time of year.
I Dream of Christmas reminds me of a Hallmark movie. Melody, a Broadway singing star, looks forward to hosting her mother and stepfather for Christmas in her newly restored Victorian home in Heartsprings Valley. Melody arrives one day before Mom and is excited to see her almost completed home, She meets James who has created some amazing wood pieces for her home. They get snowed in because of a freak severe storm. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Will Melody find love? Will it be Derek or James? Will she reconcile with her Mother? I Dream of Christmas by Anne Chase is a heartwarming holiday (or anytime!) story. This is a wonderful standalone book even though we meet up with loved characters from prior books. A sweet, clean and easy reading book with a wonderful storyline that makes you want to visit Heartsprings Valley! I can't wait for her next book!
Again, I love the characters and the storyline but am disappointed by the abruptly finished 'Happily Ever After' moments in this series. Has potential to be more imo.
I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription (free book but I have to pay £7.99 a month for the subscription)
Reading is such a pleasure when you find a group of books written by a good author. After reading this group by Anne Chase I am sure you will be looking for more of her works.
Love the story...glad to see Melody having a life in Heartsprings Valley. I had a really hard time with Melody constantly using the word "darling" it got to the point of being annoying But I did finish the book.
I think this is by far my favorite book in the Heartstrings series . Something about this book , just spoke to me and that's a good thing . Wonderful warm and cozy read...
I would recommend this author and this series of books. I could not put my kindle down. Love the characters and places so much to where I wanted to go and live there myself!
this series. These meet and greet love stories centered around the winter holidays give warm loving vibes to the reader! The varied characters and their walks in life make the interactions very realistic.
Well developed story with a few surprises. I love how this author develops her characters and I found myself falling in love with them. I love this series.
This was a very good book about Christmas and falling in love with the right person. Wasn’t so much on the Darling part but I didn’t let it stop me from enjoying the book.
I enjoyed this book about an actress who buys a house in a small town and gets stuck there with the carpenter during an ice storm. Good editing needed.
Such a fun holiday book in this series. I always enjoy having characters from the previous stories show up and getting to find out what they are doing now. Thank you Anne Chase!
