The moment someone discovers Astrid’s life, they’ll take it. That’s why she must stay locked inside an abandoned lighthouse where no one except her mother knows of her existence. If the shifter king’s other daughters found out that Astrid was the true heir to the throne, they would kill her. If anyone else found out about the girl whose tears turn to gold when they fall, they would enslave her in a life of misery, forcing her to cry while they grew rich.
That’s what Mother Dear has always told her.
When she sees four boys burying seeds at the base of her lighthouse, she hides like her mother instructs. But when vines begin to grow up the wall like magic, she knows her time is limited. After all, what guy wouldn’t climb them to peek inside the mysterious tower with no doors?
Astrid must decide whether the real evil lurks in the outsiders or within the walls of her own tower…before Mother Dear finds out that someone is trying to steal her golden goose.
Rapunzel meets Jack and the Beanstalk in this #whychoose RH suitable for ages 16+.
Author's note: This story fits into a complex world of fairytales and Norse mythology. It is a complete story on its own, but for a richer reading experience, I recommend reading further. You can enter this exciting world on book 1 in any series listed below. Read on!
Recommended reading order: Girl Among Wolves Trilogy (YA fairytale) 1. Unlikely Magic 2. Beastly Beauty 3. Ghostly Snow
Young Witch Series (mature YA/reverse harem twisted fairytale/norse mythology): 1. Twisted 2. Caged
Winslow Witch Chronicles (mature YA/reverse harem prequel series--PNR & Norse myth) 1. Magic of the Void 2. Sister of the Sea 3. Witch of the Wind (2019)
Couple notes, it would have been 3 stars but this book was not original noted on Amazon or Goodreads back when I picked it up. It showed as a stand alone book, and as such was disappointing for the lack of resolution at the end.
Wasn’t the best book, so I’m not sure I’ll pick up the other two.
Catching up on reviews. Didn’t realize kindle wasn’t marking these completed.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
This is an erotic retelling of Rapunzel of the golden hair, with Astrid, caged high in a tower. Her Mother Dear, the witch, Yvonne. is the only person she has interacted with for 16 years. She is completely naive, having no knowledge of other people. Jack, a wolf shifter, steals a package of beans and plants some at the bottom of the tower. Sure enough, a beanstalk grows up the side. Jack's brother, William, a bull shifter, discovers the tower is inhabited by Astrid. William meets Astrid up close and personal in a very erotic episode. Evan, Jack, Daniel and William visit her in the tower to help her escape. Astrid goes naively and innocently from one erotic episode to another, with each of the brothers in turn, not realizing how incredibly sexy she is and how she turns on the boys. Mother Dear is incensed to find the boys have "defiled" her daughter (though it was always Astrid encouraging them on) and burns their house down. She only lets the boys escape because Astrid promised to return to the tower, take her place as the Princess, and renounce the boys. I really want to find out what happens in Book 3! And pick up Book 1, too!
A very interesting take on Rapunzel and Jack and the Beanstalk and Goose with the golden egg. Lena Mae takes these old favorites and turns them into a reverse harem twist you might enjoy. I must admit the Mother Dearest character was infuriating and deceitful. Astrid (miss Rapunzel) had four boys instead just the one. I must say her nievie got me so frustrated I wanted to scream “Open your eyes!” The boys didn’t quite know what they were in for but each got a big crush on Astrid so they willingly took turns climbing the vines to visit her. Her ability to cry tears made of gold is another interesting take on ‘the goose’ and became a lucky break for the boys who were very poor. This is well written and easy to read. This would be very enjoyable for the YA plus crowd
I'm having some really mixed feelings about this story. It's got all the fun and silliness of Tangled, which was an absolute joy to watch. But my modern sensibilities were left slightly uncomfortable over the age of our heroine. Also, the story stops before I think it's quite finished. I definitely still have questions I want answered - maybe in the next book. I could do with less of Mother Dear, however I'd love to know more about Astrid's sisters. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Kept from the world and trusting a promise that seemed never to be fulfilled Astrid took advantage of every new experience the boys were giving her. But evil does not release its prey easily and there were consequences. A reverse harem story with an enemy that seemed had the upper hand. Liked how the author intertwined Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel with secondary characters of Girls Among Wolves. Very creative! Lot of twists with suspense, shifters, a naïve girl, a witch, deception, violence, romance and passion. The story has not finished yet and I’m expecting more yet to come.
I really enjoyed reading Astrid's story. Getting to meet her four sweet boys and finding out about her life is heart breaking. I feel for the poor girl locked into her tower for so long. I really enjoyed following along with her journey to finding herself and I can't wait to read more about her story.
The age thing really freaked me out reading this. Shes 16 and has lived a very sheltered life so it makes her seem even younger. I liked the concept of the story though. It ends on a cliff hanger which is annoying too.
I really enjoyed this book, the only thing I wish is that it were longer and that we had a little bit more of the boys POVs. Would love to read more of their story!
I found this story adorable and would totally recommend it. The twist on the classic telling is adorable tho I feel like the ending left more questions and answers.
