BRIAN CHRISTOPHER SHEA has spent most of his adult life in service to his country and local community. He honorably served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. In his civilian life, he reached the rank of Detective and accrued ten years of law enforcement experience between Texas and Connecticut. Somewhere in the mix he spent five years as a fifth-grade school teacher. Brian’s myriad of life experience is woven into the tapestry of each character’s design. He resides in New England and is blessed with an amazing wife and three beautiful daughters.

Writing has always been a dream, but life seemed to find a way of interrupting. It wasn’t until recently that he dedicated time to this passion. His first book, The Camel’s Back, gave him a much-needed mental break from his work investigating atrocities against children. He allotted time in the morning each day. Usually waking at 5 to bang away on his manuscript. The second round of daily writing would occur after his children were asleep. He proved that working full-time and raising a family were no longer valid excuses to putting off his novel.

I was surprised the heros were bested a time or two in this trilogy. The characters are likable and I care enough to find out how they carry on. Surprising, suspenseful and a bit of humor. I devoured the stories and look forward to more. I like it.

The first three books in Brian Shea's Nick Lawrence series are overall entertaining.

I did notice while I was checking my reviews to come up with an aggregate score, the names on a couple of them have changed. I have a feeling that the books I read are first editions. I don't know if any substantial changes have been made with rebranding and republication, so my criticisms may no longer be valid.

Overall, Shea pairs his law enforcement experience and knowledge with a talent for creating memorable characters that beg for investment from the reader.

The first novel, KILL LIST, was entertaining but rough around the edges. The second novel, PURSUIT OF JUSTICE, was a bit more refined but still retained some of its rough edges. The third novel, BURNING TRUTH, was definitely the best of the three. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was completely devoid of the pitfalls of KILL LIST but it's apparent that Shea made considerable and demonstrable improvement in his craft over the course of the novels.

I'm definitely invested in the characters and I'm definitely eager to see their development, as well as Shea's continued development as an author.

What happened? Disappointment.... Well written, great characters etc etc all the makings of a great series - then with 'Down The Rabbit Hole' nothing made sense why a promising character like Nick Lawrence is washed up and washed out.
So many holes in this trilogy just don't add up. With Declan from Special Ops and Nick a Ranger these books read like they both have yellow belts in self-defence, I lost count of the knife wounds....
Is this what's termed an anti-hero? Because even a rookie cop would have had protection or stayed with his wife with direct threats on her life in the picture and he just leaves her to get kidnapped, so predictable in a he is a screw up kind of way?
Assuming you are going to continue with Nick as a sad sack of criminology stumbling and bumbling his way 1 step forward and 10 back every book, I'm not interested.
common'? an experienced Ranger and he trips breaking in a door for a critical scenario? Again,,, give some credit or kill him off for his ineptitude.

Review of Nick Lawrence Books

The Nick Lawrence series has something for everyone, Childhood Trauma, Political Drama, Middle East Wars, and a tortured hero. The first book introduced Nick Lawrence ( FBI Special Agent ) and Devlan ( ex Navy Seal and fired Narcotics officer). In fact Lawrence is assigned to solve a Bank Robbery and in the process Devlan saves his life. The plot includes the current problems in the Middle East and a series of Terrorists attacks that force Lawrence to team up with the Ex Navy Seal Veteran. The stories are very believable and shows what people are capable of doing to survive. The ending was awesome and I can't wait to read the next book in The series.

So far, so good.

Written by a genuine ex-cop, for a change.

HOWEVER: it is INCONCEIVABLE that no character seems to attach importance to the Texas football game—as a possible target.

This book is tedious, boring in places, and seems improbable and contrived.

But that’s okay. I guess; it’s not real obvious.

One of the dumbest detectives around. Absolutely no common sense, can’t keep his word, always being beaten up, shot or stabbed. Couldn’t figure out a crime if he had to. 3 stories and he screws up every one. I don’t think I’ll waist my time on any more.

Nick Lawrence- 3

Different and disconcerting in that the main character is not able to follow through on anything but is being touted as one of the best. Everyone else is a hero/heroine but he gets the credit.

The Nick Lawrence Series

I hope Anyana and Nick will get back together. Nick needs to find a balance between his work and home life. He lost Izzy, he doesn't want to lose Anyana and their new baby.

Great stories, all three of them. Got to really like the characters. Not sure that I liked the ending in book 3 but will have to read 4 and 5 to see the real ending. I have already downloaded them and am anxious to see how Nick ends up. The writing is excellent and easy to get totally engrossed in the stories. I recommend highly! Besides 4 and 5, I will be reading more of this author.
