Terrific! Offers month/month observing opportunities and events. Detailed analysis and observing advice for the year's major astronomical events.

But I was surprised at the interesting articles also included on a wide variety of topics. For example, there was a great piece which, for the first time, really explained the lunar and solar influences on the tides in a way that I could understand.

Wouldn't recommend it as a first "observing" guide, though. I think this is a level 2 book.

Well, I didn’t actually read the 2019 edition, I read the 2020 edition, but that book isn’t on Goodreads so I’m marking this one instead. This handbook is packed with information, getting down to the nitty gritty on any observing subject you could dream of. I would not consider this a beginner or entry level guide to observing. This is more for the hardcore observer. My copy is now thoroughly marked up.
