I won a digital copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. While this is the second book in the series, it worked well as a standalone novel.

This book had a little bit of everything in it. It starts out like a historical fiction book and begins in 1922 in Russia. It then advances to 1999 in Copenhagen with the rest of the book taking place in 2049. Additionally, it takes us around the globe covering incidents in Russia, Denmark, South Aftica, Sweden, France, off the coast of Chile, Austria, and Macau. A variety of topics are woven into the storyline including environmental degradation on earth, toxic acid rain, missing Russian treasures, intelligent spheres that have arrived on earth and established contact with humanity, domestic abuse, human cloning and other genetic research, work and personal relationships overlapping, and advanced technology especially with virtual reality, drones, holographic communications and driverless vehicles.

The Amber Group has been hired to retrieve a lost treasure. However, a secret organization is also pursuing this treasure. This interaction makes for an action-packed science fiction technothriller. Our main protaganist, Jonathan Jarl (who works for the Amber Group) is in a race to recover the lost artifact, but at the same time, there are a lot of other things going on in the plot.

The book constantly goes back and forth between several groups of people and this made it a somewhat bumpy read for me. However, the characters were well-developed and I did enjoy the book. If you enjoy the genre, I recommend that you give it a try.

Unique and interesting story.... needs an editor

“Genesis” by Filip Forsberg is the second installment of the Amber Group Trilogy. The trilogy revolves about the future of earth, after climate change, pollution and the fight for resources, had made most of the land a violent and dangerous place to life, while the elite has sought refuge in self-sustained cities.

The book is a sequel to “Tabula Rasa” but can be read as a stand alone. After an initial chapter set in 1922 Russia and a detour to Copenhagen in 1999, the action centers in a very near future, where the degradation of earth has reached its peak. Once more the story revolves about Jonathan Jarl, who is hired by the Amber Group to recover a lost artifact. Meanwhile various threads take place at the same time with or without apparent connection. A multitude of events take place all around the globe: various European countries, Macau, Africa, Chile, with the plot constantly going back and forth.

The book has an interesting plot and combines elements of SF and urban utopia with some actual themes and the characters are well developed.

Fortunately, the edition is better than that of his predecessor, but unfortunately not good enough, while the typos and punctuation have highly improved, grammar has not, the overall translation is jumpy, and some paragraphs are just not smooth, and made it very difficult to enjoy the reading.

Nevertheless, if you enjoy the genre and can cope with the incomplete sentences and grammatical errors, the story is unique.

Continuation of a great near future story!

This book is a very interesting continuation to the series. The story continues in the near future and involves a few of the same story lines as well as a few additional ones. The different stories come together towards the end. I was surprised by a few of the things that happen in this book.
I thought the book was well done. I recommend this book if you are into science fiction and like it in the near future.
My only issue was that at times the sentences don’t quite make sense to me until I flip a word or two around in the sentence. This caused a few stops for me until I reread the sentence to figure it out.

I received a copy of this book from the author.

I loved the first book Tabula Rising and this book is really good as well. It can be read as a stand-alone but I enjoy stories more when I read them in order so I am happy I was able to read the first book as well. Great action and well-written, I love this series.

Clever

I loved this fast paced story. Those who want the best for the whole world are once again at odds with those who are guided by their greed and ambition. I loved the way the author jumps back and forth through the story lines which was quite exciting. If you like futuristic mysteries you should try this series.

A great combination of sci-fi and the not so distant future. Can be read by itself but better when you read the series from beginning to end. I am thankful to have had the Jonathan Jarl series to read and review. Hope to read more from Filip Forsberg. Available on Amazon

I enjoy how this series incorporates so many locations and cultures. This particular story was quite interesting with lots of characters at play, and some questions about the visitors get answered too, although that thread is still left dangling in the end. Again I feel a need to remove one star just for the translation issues - odd wordings and the occasional outright mistake ruined the flow of an otherwise wonderful tale.

This is another great read, although it is a different story, not a follow on from Tabula Rasa,it does refer back now and again. The main theme are the globes around earth and solar system.
Filip has come up trumps again,as I said in book one, a modern Jules Verne. The story refers to the climate, acid rain and unusual weather, but it is happening now.
This book again gets 10/10. A very refreshing story. Happy reading to all.
