I loved Samuel Carr’s edited volume titled “The Poetry of Birds”, so as a great lover of nature and romantic poetry, I was excited to pick this one up in Dublin.

Comprising a beautiful collection of poetry based on various flowers by both contemporary and classic romantic poets and interspersed with colourful illustrations, this compilation is sure to enchant and delight the poet and nature lover at heart. You also learn a lot about flowers—some with ancient, olden names used.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a flower poetry book without one of my favorite poems of all time-“Daffodils” by the romantic, English poet William Wordsworth.

Only a handful of the poems really stood out to me but all and all a beautiful book to have on a shelf or coffee table. For context on my review I usually look for poetry collections that I can pull out, flip to a random page and sink into a nice poem- this one didn’t quite meet that standard.

A good chunk of the poems use old English and for that I think it would be a great resource for a particular niche of aspiring writers.

Contains very good poems throughout time, with the Tennyson one being my favorite. However some of them were very dry in comparison to the others. Good but still probably could have done without the excerpts of Shakespeares larger works and the like.

This is physically a lovely book of poetry and it gave me just as muh pleasure to view the images as it did to read the poems.

Also, one of the poems uses the word 'whelmed', which I think is my first sight of it in the wild so to speak!
