I’m a twenty-year-old something born in Montreal, Canada but currently living in Virginia for school. I would tell you want my major is however after two years I still have no idea what I’m doing.

So I’m a writer (duh that’s how you found me), movie enthusiast, and self-proclaimed chef. I love music even though I can’t sing or dance to save my life. (That doesn’t necessarily stop me but you’ve been warned.)

I started Ruthless People the summer of 2013 in hopes of giving myself a new type of love and crime drama. I never knew so many people thought like me! I feel truly blessed to have fans like you all! Writing is my true love and having you all enjoy my words is a dream come true.

*Spoilers*

With a pre-order dated a month from publication day,
Never Let Me Go was one of my most anticipated books for 2018 (look, JJ wrote The Ruthless People series, okay) and as soon as it synced to my Kindle, I was on that baby like white on rice; however (said with a deep sigh), I was not enamoured, and I'll tell you why.

That moment in the drawing-room, immediately after Donovan's funeral, was the most unnecessary and blatant plot manipulation ever. E.V.E.R.

And the funny thing is, it wasn't needed, but since JJ refused to allow the plot progress organically and because she just had to play the puppet master by ensuring Dorian and Luella had that tangential crossing of paths, I not only lost respect for both protagonists, I was completely and utterly uninterested in how they arrived at their HEA.

Why was Luella there in the first place? And how did they go from zero to one thousand within what seemed like 2 seconds? There were no indicators that they even found each other attractive; in addition to the fact that this occurred minutes after burying Donovan was, in my opinion, crass and simply unbelievable.

Further, the subsequent deus ex machina plot twist that had Dorian in need of an escort only to find that Luella was actually the escort he'd paid a quarter of a million dollars for, had me like "come on, come the fuck on".

Look, one coincidence can be overlooked, but multiple? I'm sorry, just no. DNF @25% and returned to Amazon.

‘I learned when you aren’t a somebody, you’re nobody. I was nobody to everyone. I wasn’t needed by anyone. Then I met him and he treated me like I was gold.’

‘He laughed, and it was the most beautiful sound in the world. This was all for him, so one day he’d never have to suffer.’

Never Let Me Go is a new standalone second chance romance from JJ McAvoy. We were immediately hooked -as always- from the moment we read the first page. This author’s characters always have such presence and wicked intriguing personalities. Whilst her character development is fabulous the reader is always expected to read between the lines and form an almost instant connection in order to follow their journey. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t, yet it is very rare for us not to connect to JJ McAvoy’s characters and once again we immediately fell in love.

“I’m a lot of things to a lot of different people. Just like you are, and just like everyone else is. Everyone is complicated.”

Dorian Rhys-Gallagher has just lost his twin brother, Donovan, from the same addiction that killed both of his parents. He knows he too has an addictive personality so does everything so as not to succumb to anything other than the stress and pressure that comes with being a ruthless business man. Dorian is trying to fulfil the last wish of his twin brother; to find the woman Donovan left high and dry and make sure she’s provided for as well as their five year old child, whom he never got to meet. Fate works in mysterious ways and Dorian finds more than what he expected or bargained for. True love comes when we least expect it.

“Fall in love with me. Be obsessed with me. Respect me and care about me. Miss me like crazy when I’m not around. But always be around. Never leave me feeling cheap and dirty. Try not to make me cry. Have no one else but me. Be patient when I mess up. Take my loneliness away. Let me take yours away. Show me the best and worst of yourself. Let me know it’s safe to fall in love with you.”

Luella “Lulu” Thorne has had a rough life. In and out of foster homes and working multiple jobs to provide for her son who is born profoundly deaf. She’s made some choices in life which she’s not proud of but these choices were borne out of love and protection of what she holds dear to her heart. We love JJ McAvoy’s heroines. They’re always filled with an inner strength and a fierceness that matches their soft hearts and their need to love and be loved in return for who they are.

“We already know each other’s secrets. We’ve already lost the fight against our lust, felt guilty about it, and did it all over again. So let’s abandon what we think we should and simply do what we want to do. Who can stop us but us?”

We fell in love with this story and the characters. The writing was flawless and the editing has improved tremendously other than a one word repetition which did get quite annoying. That’s a personal thing though. As always JJ McAvoy writes a story which kept us guessing whilst it compelled us. Enticing, sexy and full of surprises, we never truly know where her stories will take us which is one of the things we love about her.

“Relationships that are messy are the ones that change our lives forever. It’s the one people write songs and movies and books about. It’s the one we all secretly want. Who wants a plain love story? Who does that inspire?”

2.5 stars.
I never give this low rating to any book ever. But this book was just not for me. I just couldn't connect with the characters. The plot intrigued me so I picked this one, but it really disappointed me. The plot really could have been better with a little depth in writing. The writing felt flat for me.
And most importantly where the hell is Epilogue??????
It's like having a 2 course meal without desert.
I was waiting for the epilogue after the writer just plainly finished the story.
Like yeah I wrote n done.
It was like the writer was just trying to get this book over with.
Many people loved this book, but I didn't. I want my books to have some depth and emotion and an EPILOGUE.

"You have no idea how good it feels to wake up and know you aren't alone. Someone loves you, needs you, wants you. It's addictive."

I enjoyed reading Never Let Me Go. I love this author's dark romance books so I wanted to give this contemporary romance a chance. My favorite scenes were the interaction between the two main characters with the child. He in my opinion stole the spotlight in this book, and his scenes were definitely the ones I enjoyed the most. As for the romance between Lulu and Dorian, I thought their actions the first time they met was a bit too much. However, it didn't make me feel a certain way about the characters. I thought this book was heavily focused on the relationship, which gave me enough time to connect to them. I also enjoyed seeing the characters grow as individuals, especially Dorian who mostly spend his life alone focusing on business, realized there was more to the world than just work.

"What is love but two people, for whatever reason, saying 'never let me go'?"

So why a 3 star rating? The book was a bit on the short side. I didn't feel like the author was rushing until the last quarter of the book. There was a situation and that was resolved pretty quickly. Also the author threw a twist to the story, and I didn't feel like it really belonged. She also didn't really go into it, so it could've easily been left out. It felt like the author wanted to throw an emotional curveball, but it just didn't work out really well. Also the ending was very abrupt, it would've been better if there was at least an epilogue to tell the reader what happened next, and not leave us in the dark. Overall, Never Let Me go was an okay read for me. I will check out this author's other non-dark romances.

I was planning to read this book because it sounded interesting but after the hostility from the author to readers who don't agree with her... I won't be reading any more of her books. Which is rather sad since she isn't a half bad author.. So this ignorant stupid uneducated reader will be spending her money with other more tolerant and talented authors.

The “escort” plot is not my cuppa (not because of the “profession” itself- a person does whatever they want with their body) but because it kills the romance imo. Like I said may times I don’t like when the hero is a manwhore as much as I don’t like the heroine. Actually, I don’t like OP of any kind in my books.
And the review bellow.

2 estrelas .

DNF at 30% The story was just terrible. Everything happened way too fast. I felt zero chemistry between them. Sorry excuse of a plot when in the end this book was all about sex. I gave it a chance but I just refused to waste my time on this.

First one ever where the heroes say: “i like you. I like you too. Let’s fall in love”.
Twin brother falls too easily in love with the mother of his dead brother son. He takes over everything and they live happily ever after. The end.

Dorian's identical twin brother dies and he's feeling lost and guilty and just numb but then a woman walks in the room and she helps him take the pain away. One year later, Dorian is still looking for the woman and also for his brother's ex and nephew. When it turns out that the women are one in the same, he's lucked out. Luella or Lulu had met Donovan, Dorian's twin brother and their relationship was tumultuous but they loved each other deeply. And since he had left her with a bunch of debts, Lulu became an escort to provide for her and her son Alaric. So Dorian hires her in order to help her pay her debts and get out of that life for good. I liked how much they cared about each other, Lulu was able to see past Dorian's face and recognize how different he was from Donovan and fall for the man he was. I loved Alaric, he was a smart kid who found a father who could give him everything. Dorian was lonely and he wanted a family and Lulu and Alaric became that and they made him happy. Lulu and Dorian could't keep their hands off of each other and they fell pretty hard for on another. Rafael and Goldie were loyal to Dorian even if they didn't agree with him at times but they were his family. I absolutely loved Russell, he was Dorian's butler and the man who kind of raised him and Donovan and the man was smart and did not miss a thing. The drama that came with Lulu and Dorian was pretty crazy and I did not know how they would get out of it but they found a way. The ending was too vague and I don't like vague endings but I was glad that Lulu and Dorian were stronger than ever and nothing would make them let go of one another.

This one was particularly hard to read.

First:
The relationship between the main characters and the son was “made” too easy. I think that took away a sense of realism, which would otherwise allow me to feel more connected to them.

Second:
You know how some scenes are just very easy to imagine? I feel like there were a number of them in this book that I had to reread and question the possibility of. Once again, it meant I couldn’t relate to the characters and events at all.

Third:
The characters-including Alaric- were a little too two dimensional. I feel like they were too “ideal” hence incomplete in my mind. And the problem with that is I’m constantly reminded that this is all fictional instead of being completely immersed in their world.

I know this is fiction (duh) but I personally enjoy books that don’t feel like one. If that even makes any sense. I’ve read better written fantasy books that felt more real than this contemporary romance.

2 stars because I see the plotline. Sure there’s possible loopholes but it is solid and I know what the author is trying to portray. It was just not executed well.

I loved the book.
One of the main reasons i love JJ's books is because most authors try to make their main characters saints and seem perfect while JJ's characters are flawed and human and sometimes selfish which makes it easier to connect to them.
The story line is amazing, the character building over the time is flawless. I loved the story line, like all JJ's book you are hooked till the very end.

HALLMARK

if hallmark starts writing books that is how they will be. Two dimensional characters with no strong back story just falling in love by looking into each other eyes.

😔😔😔
JJ you have no idea how disappointed i am. I can't believe this is written by the author of Ruthless People and this book is the reason vicious minds has not been released yet.

2.5-3 stars. I couldn't wait to read this book after seeing the synopsis. But the story didn't lead with me with the level of anticipation that the blurb did. It was somewhat anticlimactic overall. Dorian's whole family has passed as a result of some kind of addiction. Before his twin Donovan expired, he informed Dorian of a child and the mother whom he left behind. I thought this would be angsty and grip my heart and give me conflicting emotions. So maybe because the plot was already loaded with complexity that the characters themselves didn't really lend themselves to too much depth and development. I liked Dorian and Luella, but they didn't really have much going for them under the surface except mutual loneliness and loss so it was hard to advocate for them, although I could appreciate their honesty and open communication. I wasn't a big fan of their first encounter because while I understood where it was coming from, it was emotionless and then when they meet again, it's like emotions suddenly bubble to the surface out of nowhere. My favorite parts were reading about Alaric and his interactions with Luella and Dorian. I liked where the story ended although there wasn't full resolution, but wished there had been more of a journey involved and wonder if there is more in store for these characters in the future.

Updated Review: As a fan of J.J. McAvoy's books, I couldn't conceive how she received 1-star ratings, but today, another fan/reviewer pointed out to me that everyone is not only entitled to their individual opinions, but perhaps "Never Let Me Go" simply did not meet everyone's satisfaction; and that's a fair conclusion.

So, not a conspiracy to diminish the author's popularity, but perhaps just an honest opinion of the book.

Below is my initial review----------->

The only way that this book received a 1-star rating is because of a conspiracy to dilute the popularity of JJ McAvoy's books. This book delivers on all the feels.

After twin brother Donovan dies from cirrhosis of the liver, due to his over-indulgent drinking over the years, the other twin, Dorian, falls in love with Donovan's former girlfriend/baby's mother (Luella). Donovan had been an a**hole to the woman, dumping her before baby was born, and he feels remorse on his deathbed.

After a chance meeting at the funeral, they end up getting to know each other, in and out of bed. Dorian takes on the role of father to his brother's son. He's a CEO of a large company and Luella has secrets that no one wants to become public, or it could hurt reputation of Dorian and his company.

Ok so I'll first off say this isn't my favourite JJ read but I will say I still demolished reading it in a few hours haha
i think I've been truly spoilt reading some of her other books that will remain in my heart always so any new books have alot to live up to.
This book tells us the story of Dorian and Luella (Lulu) And the journey they have after Lulu has a relationship with Dorians twin brother Donovan who passes away.... Will they be the ones to help each other through? Will they hate each other due to what they've been through already?
Dorian makes this book so good... I love how his character behaves and how he changes and how strong he is after the way he's been brought up.
Aleric who is Lulu's young son is a fab edition to the story too! He's got some good banter going on!

I'm sad because JJ McAvoy is one of my favorite authors and I was so looking forward to reading something new from her because it's been so long... And now I'm a bit unsatisfied after reading this.

The whole idea was really promising, but to me it seemed like there were just too many things and elements happening during the story that at the end...there was just not enough time to fully developed them or just were left hanging which caused the story to feel inconclusive/ with a lot of plot holes and rushed.

I'm not a hater or a troll, I'm just saying that she's a wonderful author, but this book wasn't one of her most outstanding works. I've read what she's capable of writing and creating and this one really doesn't make her justice.

Anyway, I'll keep waiting for her next stories.
