A lonely girl. A ruthless mage school. A power that could change the fate of kingdoms.
The daughter of a powerful nobleman, Alyx Egalion’s world is shattered when she learns she might have magic. Instead of marrying her best friend, the crown prince of Rionn, and ruling his side, she is ordered to travel to the distant DarkSkull Hall to become a mage.
Secretive and isolated, DarkSkull is a place where only magical power and lineage matter. Lonely, surrounded by strangers she cannot trust, and desperate to go home, Alyx clings to a single hope... surviving her training so she can return to the life she dreams of.
But as Alyx is drawn further into the world of mages, she discovers terrible secrets that challenge everything she's ever believed in. Outside DarkSkull, shadows are stirring. The strongest mages are disappearing without a trace. A long-held truce between powerful kingdoms wavers on a knife’s edge. Alyx’s long-buried magic might be enough to save them all… if she can learn to master it.
With this realisation comes a heartbreaking choice… between her home and the life she’s always wanted, and taking her place as a warrior mage to help fight the growing darkness.

Absolutely in love with EVERY book Lisa Cassidy has written. I have them all, read them all several times now and I am ALWAYS in awe at her keeping me on my toes in each book.
I totally want Peter Jackson to do a set of movies on her books. Some of her battle scenes would look magical on screen, very Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings!
If you love some romance and lots of action then definitely read her books. Start with the Mage Chronicles and begin her awesome adventures.
This series is incredible! I want to read it all over again- character development was wonderful and I felt quite bereft when it was all done - like I had lost a bunch of friends. The storyline is epic and the ending is just perfect. Love that the main character is a girl and that her friends band together despite their respective foibles- excellent series for the next generation - so good to have more strong female characters for girls to relate to. I’m sure others have said it but the series would make an incredible movie series too! Can’t wait for more from this author!! #bringit #topauthor #bestseller
This was my second series I read by Lisa Cassidy and had no ideas what to expect. In short, it was effortless to fall into this new universe. Lisa’s descriptive writing and amazing storytelling skills made this series beyond enjoyable to read. The characters were easy to love and demonstrated tremendous growth across the series, and the plot was refreshing and engaging. These books are quick reads (that’s always a good thing for me!) and I’ve already gone back and re-read portions because it was so fun. This is a great series for younger readers, as well as adults looking for a new world to fall into.
Solid YA-leaning epic fantasy. Made the mistake of reading Cassidy's subsequent series - A Tale of Stars and Shadow - first, and the growth in her craft from this earlier series to that really shows. Some odd pacing, some slightly confusing plot holes, but very entertaining and, as Cassidy does consistently, interesting characters you are really drawn to. I believe her next series is in the same world, and I look forward to seeing what she can do with the setting with a bit more experience under her belt this time.
Finely written and fast passed, a story that builds on good characterization and emotional appeal as well. Alex Egalion develops over the course of action into a rich and believable woman withstanding wrong decisions and good through her sense of duty reliance on her friendss. I laughed. I cried. I enjoyed these well written books thoroughly. Looking forward to more by this gifted author.
This book series was fantastic. I wasn't a huge fan of the first book, the main character was annoying, but she and the rest of the characters developed into great characters. The last book made me cry 3 times. So I would highly recommend the series and can say confidently you will enjoy too 😄
Overwhelmed by reading at work, and with the lure of social media, it can be hard to find a really captivating story. The Mage Chronicals are just that; captivating. Thoroughly enjoyable. Would recommend.
I really enjoyed being able to read thru the complete series without having to wait for next book to be released. Author created an imaginative world with characters that engage the reader.
Beautiful story telling, lots of build up and bits and pieces of information without leaving you asking questions at the end. Everything ties in together and thr characters are easy to fall in love with and follow throughout the story.
Wow!! Absolutely loved it. These books totally absorbed me with it’s enchanting characters, little twists that were not quite expected. Adventure, romance, betrayals. Good story in my opinion, good pace. I could not put them down. Thank you for the entertaining read.
DNF @70%, it dragged on too long. I liked the characters, although I found the FMC a bit stilted and formless. The romance was tepid, which is a shame as it had great potential then seemed to just fizzle.
