Feral

He warned me what would happen if he lost control. I didn't listen.

He told me to stay away from him, that if I got too close he would not be able to stop himself. He would pin me down and take me so fiercely my throat would be sore from screaming before he finished wringing one savage, desperate climax after another from my helpless, quivering body.

Part of me was terrified, but another part needed to know if he would truly throw me to the ground, mount me, and rut me like a wild animal, longer and harder than any human ever could.

Now, as the feral beast flips me over to claim me even more shamefully when I've already been used more thoroughly than I imagined possible, I wonder if I should have listened to him...

Publisher's Note: Feral includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

The problem with Super Soldiers!

I just can’t understand why the US Military has not yet figured out that having mad scientists creating super soldiers by mixing crazy chemical compounds, using cybernetics, or in this case genetically engineering alien and human DNA always leads bad things.

Generally the initial testing kills hundreds of good soldiers, then the ones that do survive end up as indestructible monster soldiers. That is about all I am going to say about this book, aside from the fact that there is almost always one good guy in the mix who is a hot indestructible soldier that falls in love with the girl. (a lot like Jason Bourne at the end of Bourne Identity - before we know that the girl he falls in love with dies in the next movie).

So Sara Fields new Author for me: but one I will be watching for sure: this had such an interesting concept and for me, It was this overall vein that initially drew me towards Feral as a story.
The hot and heavy antics between Axel and Cosima were just the icing.
So as I was saying it was the Sci-Fi Alien aspect of this rather than the romance that captured my attention it was just a shame that this wasn't expanded on and explored in more depth.
I never really felt we got in tune with Axel's inner monologue and his thoughts on a life of almost ongoing servitude for the military.
I mean he was just as much as a captive as his crazy ass brother but I didn't get a sense of how this had affected his psyche.
I also couldn't get a handle on Cosima and her total lack of flight plans once she was intercepted by Axel she acclimatised very quickly: I would still be totally screeching like a loony in fright and disbelief if I had witnessed an altercation between two eight foot tall red monsters and one threw me over his shoulder and made off with me .
He does return to more normal proportions and colour when calmer but still.
Also whats with her wandering the complex and area alone: stay the hell put girly!!!
I don't get why she would even do that considering past events and knowing That Axel's bro is a bit cray cray and still on the loose.
This at its heart is an easy read that is basically extremely instalove in nature and also includes some panty dropping steamy antics: and boy are they hot and heavy and just for info there are extra appendages involved here.

tenor.gif

It's well written: does what it says on the tin and can be read fairly quickly.
I did enjoy myself so will definitely be trying something else by this author but would have loved this to have been a tad lengthier and maybe a touch more involved than it was.
For clarification, this, in my opinion, isn't that dark at all: I suppose initially there's what you could class as slight dub-con: but its like really mild and Cosima is not really saying no either it's more akin to weak reluctance on her part which she very swiftly abandons.
So If you're looking for some sizzle and spice then this one certainly delivers that in spades.
Axel is one dominant Alpha Alien who goes after what he wants and that in this instance is Cosima.
This for me was a fun read.
I borrowed this with my KU subscription.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Thrilling and Darkly Erotic!

“Feral” is a thrilling, darkly erotic, sci-fi tale set in the future illustrating what is possible when government, unethical science and top-secret black projects coalesce. The story begins with the heroine/journalist infiltrating a covert government facility to uncover the clandestine operations taking place within. What she encounters is literally out of this world, a lengthy history of hybrid genetic experimentation to achieve the perfect super soldier. Professionally written and extremely fast paced, the pulse pounding action begins immediately and remains prevalent throughout the story. The characterizations are engaging, a hero with a tragic past struggling to control his most primal urges and an intelligent, likeable heroine who falls for the feral beast. “Feral” is a standalone story, told from dual perspectives without any ow or om drama.

“Feral” is the perfect escape during the hectic holiday season or whenever time is short and lengthy novels are far too time consuming.

Disclaimer: No Kindles were seriously harmed while reading this novel. Children 18 + only… due to violence, sexually explicit content and discipline which might be considered harsh or rough in nature.

I read this several years ago but never wrote a review. I’ve only read a couple of this author’s books and they’re typically smut based. This one actually had an interesting plot… it just kept getting derailed with the smut. I’ll leave my original rating.

Cosima is (I think) an investigative reporter and is captured while nosing around Echelon 67, a top- secret government facility that has experimented with human/alien DNA to make super-soldiers. The facility also happens to be in the middle of a prison break of sorts. There she meets two brothers one evil (Saleos) determined to kill her and one good (Axel) committed to saving her and making her his.

Bottom Line- It was ok, I was really intrigued by the plot, so I found myself skimming the smut.

description

Narrated by: Bo Alexander
Length:
4 hrs and 7 mins

Wow! What a hot audio. This is a quick naughty listen. Bo Alexander is a new narrator for me and I really enjoyed the variations in his voice.

This is out of the genre I'd normally read but I found the The Vakarran Captive story concept intriguing and found myself wanting the story to be longer. Overall I was pleasantly surprised. This is a dark alien captive romance laced with suspense and mystery. The violence is graphic, the sex is sizzling hot and the story dark & captivating.

Fast paced and well written this story won't disappoint the sci fi romance lovers.

NARRATOR’S PERFORMANCE 4/5
PLOT 4/5
OVERALL AUDIO RATING 4 /5

Sometimes you just want a little trashy alien erotica. *shrugs*

Honestly, it was...inventive, lol. Some of it was quite eye-rolling...but when you're looking for a good trashy alien erotica, you can't be but so picky, lol.

Clearly, the heroine agreed with me. *snicker*

Note: The heroine is TSTL. There's also some P to A back to P again and OMG that is sooo gross. As well as unhygienic.

3.5* STARS!

Another sexy dirty filthy story from Sara Fields. I might say author's formula is quite predictable but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. It was an easy and entertaining read. Sometimes I need it. Why not?

Our heroine, Cosima is a journalist on mission to discovered the government conspiracy theory involve some aliens experiment as a bio weapon. And hat she found is far more than beyond imagination. Her clumsy ass got caught by several military men whose on the hunt for escaped experiment. What a clusterfuck, indeed. Everything happened so fast and turn into bloodbath. Then, Cosima meet Axel, the alien hero who saved her from his savage alien brother.

Cosima is an okay heroine, I guess. I'm not really interested with her. She's too submissive for my type at their first met. Anyway, the real Cosima has "sci-fi" brain before became a journalist. She's intrigued with Axel and his past. I liked Axel enough to be a hero. His past as the latest experiment by the government made him smart and powerful. Axel has calm demeanor yet protective. Good combo!

Their sex scenes are always be my favorite in this book. In "bedroom", Axel is a strict alpha and dominating. He loves spanking too much. He could be rough also a gentle lover. I love both his sides! Of course, the story is not only about sex between Axel and Cosima. Axel still need to stop his brother from killing everyone including his lover. My only issue is how rushed their chemistry at first. Overall, I liked it and quite enjoyable because normally I don't do SciFi but sexy alien made me HOT. *wink*

I don’t consider this a dark romance. I liked the world-building and the Sci-fi setting. I would’ve liked more background on Axel. How was he so civilized while his brother was so feral?

This jumped right into the sexytimes, which became the focus of the story. It was a bit over my threshold for sexytimes, so I skimmed some of them. I was more interested in the plot. It could’ve been great, but the author glossed over a lot of important details and then had the h do a TSTL thing.

It was a quick read, and it was entertaining. The author has talent and a good imagination.

Meh.

Read, about, 35% of the book.

Better writer than some, but I felt like a lot of paragraphs were long-winded, and there was too much repetition. It was almost as if the author was just trying to fulfill a word count requirement.

Didn't like how often the word "shame" and "ashamed" was being thrown around, when the protagonist was obviously enjoying herself during the sexy bits. How does one even "moan in shame?" Made me think of those hilarious subtitles that say someone is, for example, "laughing in Spanish." Ridiculous. Had me chuckling, and rolling my eyes so much, could barely get through a paragraph.

**Potential Spoiler**

Also, I cringed when the dude put his peen, that had just been buried deep in her bunghole, back into her front-hole. Gross. That's just asking for an infection. Has the author ever had sex? Who, in their right mind, would do that, or even allow it?

This was boring, kinda insta loving, and honestly not that good. It had potential but was really rushed. For those who wants to read this book for one thing, yes the sex scenes were good, but don't expect much from this. She is annoying and he is boring. Not good for me.

For the plot:
Things start out with an interesting sci-fi premise, with fast-paced, but realistic and engaging, action. It becomes evident that the actual plot of the story is just the sex, which is fine, if a bit of a waste of a cool world premise.

For the sex:
MxF, themes of dominance, minimal to no kink, somewhat repetitive scenes, an extra alien appendage that is handy af.

For the characters:
F is run-of-the-mill for the genre. Supposed to be a believable hardass, but with little evidence to support that characterization. Generic, but not annoying.
M is a giant, alien badass because he’s engineered to be. The brief glimpse you get from his point of view is actually nice. He’s likable, and more from his POV would have been interesting.

Tl;dr:
Underdeveloped F lead, little external plot, somewhat repetitive sex made enjoyable by dominance and alien skillz

OMG, Sara Fields writes dark and sexy, but I think that she has totally topped herself with this one. It is sooooooo hot. I mean, like the heat of a 1000 white hot suns hot. Actually, it may be even hotter than that. Axel is just so much everything. So very much everything.

I like Cosima, I can understand her wanting to find out everything possible. Having that same bump of curiosity myself, I would totally do what she did. She's smart too and she is really good at thinking on her feet.

I think that they are a great couple and I would love to know more about them in the future.

What an aesthetic beautiful cover, sadly it doesn’t really represent the story.
Additionally it was the best part of this whole book.

I was 4 pages into the book and suddenly it went horrible wrong.
For instance the main female character investigates some possible groundbreaking story for her newspaper she works at, she finds old papers laying in an old compound, stating that someone was experimenting, cross breeding human and alien DNA on a cellular level. Alien DNA they got their hands on from a spaceship that once crashed on earth. In some cheap copy of Area 51 only here it is called Echelon 67. Trying to genetically create a super-soldier. She believes she found the story that will make her career.
A couple of pages later in the book, our heroine comes in contact with said crossbreed and her first thought is?!?!
Anyone a guess?
“... Maybe they were experimenting with the senses or enhancing them to some degree for military reasons. ...”
Maybe? *Sigh* the papers stated that already!
But don’t worry, not 2 sentences later, she was sure again.
And not only that, everything that happens further on, the heroine guesses happily along, about how and why things happen, why said alien sniffs the air, but of course because he wants to smell her, although there are at least 21 persons in the room. The alien roars and she knows exactly it is out of excitement, he growls and our heroine is sure it is out of frustration. The along comes another groundbreaking out of the blue knowledge, he tears a simple robe in two with his hands, and yet our main character is absolutely sure that he shouldn’t have been able to tear a simple rope in two, although he just killed 20 men by tearing them limp from limp with his bare hands. But true, the rope should definitely be not possible. He grunts and of course she knew it was a sign of anger as well as annoyance. It is astounding how our female character can interpret everything correctly not only about human but even alien behaviour, body language and even grunting, roars, sniffing, and many more!! She is an expert in profiling under extreme stress and in life threatening situations. Maybe she really choose the wrong profession as a journalist, here.
*sigh*
The heroine apparently is a know-it-all.

This book is in desperate need of a review and an edit!!!
Grammar errors, vocabulary errors, limited vocabulary, repeating sentences, ...
It is not even funny anymore.

Nice idea, really bad writing, no research and background whatsoever, concerning physics, behaviour, ...
I couldn’t take it anymore at 21%.
My time is too short for such a book.

Feral by Sara Fields is a Sci-Fi Alien romance set in a future where unethical scientific experiments and possible government involvement exist.
This story was a fast-paced, imaginative erotica and a quick read. With heart-pounding action, off the charts hott steamy scenes and a couple of likable characters this story held my attention until the end. There were slight hints of mystery, secrets and genetic experiments included in this tale but the main focus was the explicit steamy scenes.
I listened to the audible version of this novel which was narrated by Bo Alexander. At the beginning of this novel it was difficult to determine the gender of the character as there was no distinction in the narrators voice and no actual mention in the story so it was a bit confusing to start. Eventually it became obvious and I was able to better follow along with the story. Apart from that beginning I did enjoy this narrator.
If you are looking for a quick steamy read check this one out. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

This story is just a smutty good time and not a lot else. I feel like it could of had a better plot. I think Axel was an interesting character, especially with his upbringing. I don't think it was necessarily dark, just a lot of spanking. Also, possibly some dubious consent in the beginning.

Mixed Feelings

This book causes mixed feelings for me. The explicit scenes start off not really consenting and that is where my problem lies. No should mean no and no matter that the character grows to like the I still find a problem with ignoring the no concept.
