It takes a special kind of rogue to spy on an enemy.
I'm in a bit of a jam.
The basics? I have about a hundred magic users chasing me, three people depending on me to help them out and some super weird markings on my arms.
They say this city is full of deception, that it will eat an honest man alive.
Good thing I'm no honest man. I'm just a street-wise kid with a very serious dragon, and she'll get me out of any trouble I fall into. Right, Saboraak?
Sarah K. L. Wilson is a USA Today Bestselling author who writes fantasy stories featuring practical heroes & heroines in the most impractical circumstances. Ooh how can this be as exciting and as humourous as the first series, I have no idea, but I love how amazing this series is turning out to be!
Tor and Saboraak find themselves in a bit of a pickle, they are flying away from their enemies and are in charge of three individuals. The stakes are higher than ever to keep them all safe and returned home, but who knows what kind of trouble all five will make to survive?
Tor is an interesting character, he's charming and gambles for his life. And he acts like he doesn't care about others or by being hero. But it seems that Tor is a little softy when he wants to be, no matter how subtle it seems
And getting to know Saboraak is very refreshing, since she is a female dragon, who acts very differently to Raolcan, the Dragon Prince from the previous series. And I love how she is trying to make Tor see that he can be a better person. It's definitely has me hooked o see how much these two unlikely partners will grow
Exciting to see some more action!
Received a copy from the author herself, for an honest review, thank you!
Another awesome adventure by Sarah. After Roalcan in the previous series, now i have to love Saboraak, the female dragon. And i do. so different from Roalcan, but again so alike.
That was an exciting installment, even when we're just kicking off the series. I love how we get to see more and more of the world these books are set in and how we dive into knowing the characters a bit better. I'm kind of holding my heart for Tor, he's far too reckless to read calmly. I like Saboraak, who's playing mom over her over enthusiastic kid and I love how the bond between these two is already forming. I also really like how this feels like a new story (and I think it can be read independently from Dragon School), but how we keep getting small remarks that show it's set in the same world and that the older characters are still there. (also I'm glad Amel never had to go to this city, because I would have pitied her with her crutch and all those stairs ;) ).
I have been binge-happy lately, getting really into book series and not able to put them down. Probably at the top of my list of binge-worthy series is Sarah K. L. Wilson’s Dragon Chameleon series, set in the same world as her fabulous Dragon School series (which I’ve re-read more than once and highly recommend). I’d read one of the Dragon Chameleon books before and loved it. When the latest, City of Ice, came out I just had to start from book 1 and binge read through the whole thing. That book 1, Rogue's Quest, was the perfect way to start a sequel series, placing it clearly in the works of Dragon School (but in a way that totally works as an intro that world for readers who don’t plan on reading that series) while introducing Tor (a wonderful scoundrel of a character) and - most importantly - his dragon partner, Saboraak, the dragon chameleon and the spy mission handed over to them by Hubric. I love the totally different “voices” of these characters and, especially, how Tor and Saboraak interact. Added to a pretty darn exciting book this definitely drew me in and started a new addiction. That addiction only worsened with book 2, Paths of Deception. The action heated up with this one bit, to me even more importantly, the character development went into overdrive. It was a total pleasure watching Tor evolve over the course of these pages - an evolution that was perfectly done. Added to yet another great plot and a cast of great characters (especially Shabren, Bataar, and sisters Zyla and Zin) and I couldn’t wait to dive into book 3. Luckily I had that book 3 (the reason I started my binge read, after all). City of Ice was, quite simply, superb. Things are looking pretty bad for Tor, Saboraak and their friends (especially Bataar) but I wouldn’t count them out. Once again an exciting story, and once again loads of fun watching Tor develop into a superb character. Really that character development, and the character building of the cast in general, is what made this book and the entire series so special. It already had a great story arc and individual book plots full of action, adventure, wild twists and turn and pretty darn nicely done humor. I’d have given the series a five based on that, but the character development is what makes this series truly exceptional. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. Each of the books in this series definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that this series is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. A recommendation - and five stars - that I’m happy to apply to this second book in the series.
Tor is back and he has company! Looks like he's bitten off more than he and Saboraak can chew, but they're not going to give up! They have a task at hand and they are going to do the best that they can. The Magika are hunting them because they want the girls back, but Tor's problems don't stop there! A new city, a new place equals lots of trouble and that is EXACTLY what is heading their way. Seems like there won't be any safe place to run to. Adventure ahead! Dragon Chameleon: Paths of Deception picks up where Rogue Quest ended. The magika are snapping at their heels and it seems that they honestly can't catch a break! I'm liking most of the characters but I have discovered my least favorite. LOL Bataar is starting to annoy me and I'm slowly siding with Tor on leaving him somewhere to find his own way. Haha! I love Saboraak though. She's such a sweet dragon. Fierce, but sweet and I like how she handles things the way that she does. Just makes me want to hug her, but I do feel that she's going to have to toughen up a bit when comes to doing certain unpleasant things. This book is just like the first. Fast-paced, engaging and has some seriously intense moments. My eyes got huge more than once, literally having me lean closer to get to what happens next. There is one oddity for me in this book. When Tor indicates that he only has a bit of beef jerky in his stomach after the fight at the camp in book one. This caused me to frown because he had a bowl of stew while at the camp and the beef jerky was long before that. I hope the author watches out for that in the next book. The ending isn't a major cliffhanger but definitely leaves me eager to learn what happens next. Things are coming together in unique ways and the author definitely has me hooked! This book is an easy 5 out of 5 stars.
SETTING: Now things are starting to hop! Or should I say FLY! This episode is full of rescues, new friends and the budding relationship between Tor and Saboraak, his new dragon. Tor starts his journey to manhood, with the female dragon giving sage advise to Tor: what kind of person he is and needs to become; how to put others ahead of himself; and, most importantly, whom he can trust implicitly-his own dragon! These life-lessons are good reminders to all of us. For example: “Compassion means taking responsibility for all other people. ...It will make you a fuller person.” Meanwhile, the Magikas are hot on their trail, and Tor and Saboraak are run to exhaustion trying to flee to what they think will be their safe haven. They also meet new friends on the way, for whom Tor must learn his compassion lesions. What role they will play is this story is not yet clear, as they are literally ‘picked up’ in this episode.
CRITIQUE: The story is beginning to take shape, and Tor is becoming more mature and responsible, albeit a bit grudgingly. The end is not yet clear, and Tor has not yet come to appreciate the gifts of a book and a necklace that he has been given. (Neither do we at this point.) However, by the end of this episode, he is developing an appreciation for the loyalty of his dragon. I look forward to seeing where Ms. Wilson takes us on this journey.
Paths of Deception is the second book in Sarah K.L. Wilson’s new Dragon Chameleon series. It begins with Tor waking up from his concussion brought on by magical torture, only to discover that they still aren’t out of danger. His little group seems to think that he isn’t very useful and can be bossed around. Sure, he’s just a street urchin from a destroyed city, but there’s more to Tor than that.
What I like about Tor is that he’s learned to survive by trusting his instincts and he has a big heart even if he denies it. Some cool things happen in Book 2. There are plenty of things that will keep you wondering too. Typical of Sarah K.L. Wilson’s Dragon School series, this one ends on a high note in the middle of another crisis. I can’t wait for Book 3!
I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Seems like no matter what scrape or life threatening situation Tor finds himself in, his dragon, Saboraak is there to pull his read end out of the fire...literally at times. Having rescued two girls and an unknown friend (or foe), from Shabren the Violet, Tor and his cohorts are now trying to escape the pursuit of the Magikas. Their plans don't always go as expected, but there is always Saboraak to the rescue. Book 2 of the Dragon Chameleon series is a fun, outrageous dash from peril to peril, with Tor always on the cutting edge of getting himself or others caught or killed. Love this series and am excited Ms. Wilson decided to continue the dragon story line from Dragon School. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author. I leave this review because I would hope others would want to join the escapades of Tor and Saboraak.
Well this is a fast moving story line and I am coming to like Tor more than in the first book. I miss the interaction between Amel and her dragon but this is a totally different pair and I'm sure I will come to love them as much. Tor is already growing on me and his dragon also, with her sass and quick comments. Tor has been thrown in the deep end very quickly, much as Amel but he is a different character altogether and his background and gut instinct will stand him in good stead. With magikas chasing him and his dragon stuggling with carrying 4 people he has his work cut out for him in this book. It is a good read and I look forward to the next. I do wish they were alittle longer though - they finish too quickly!!!!!!
Saboraak, the Chameleon Dragon, can be quite moralizing. One of her useful lessons: “Compassion is the door to wisdom”. Tor needs that, but doesn’t always appreciate it ;) Sometimes she can be a bit too serious, but Tor is the opposite, so they complement each other very well. Tor is independent and confident, although when it comes to girls and emotions: not so much. Soft-hearted Saboraak is the one I liked best. Together with Bataar, Zyla and Zin they embark on an adventure. Fast-paced and exciting, this story was well worth my time.
I liked the constant bickering between Tor and Saboraak. Quote (I added the names to make it clearer): Tor: “I wasn’t panicking.” Saboraak: “What would you call those little breathing attacks?” Tor: “Realism.”
I knew it would be difficult to make this series different from Dragon School. Now we have nearly opposite characters to Amel and Raolcan – while Amel was insecure but brave and after the truth, Tor is cocky, risk taking and gets along with deceive. While Raolcan was fatherly wise and always looking out for Amel, Saboraak is motherly but not always immediately there. Maybe I shouldn't always compare them but I must admit, I find it hard to warm up to both Tor and Saboorak altough it seems we might just getting there.... I will carry on reading to see how this all develops, especially the secret behind Zyla, but I miss the chemistry and warmth between dragon and rider.
Dragon Chameleon: Paths of Deception is the second book in in Sarah K L Wilson's new series which follows on from the wonderful Dragon School Series. Tor and Saboraak have to trust each other as their mission is not as straightforward as they thought. I love the relationship between these two .. Saboraak is snarky and superior whilst Tor is cocky and hasn't a clue. The growing trust is a great part of this story. I already love this series and cannot wait for the next book. I thoroughly recommend this book and series.
I enjoyed this book more than the first book. Tor's better qualities of his personality are coming out more that we get to know him. I need to in my mind stop comparing this series to the Dragon School series. It's not right to either series that I do that. I am slowing coming to like the characters in this series and look forward to reading more.
*I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
This is the second book in the series and it's as good as the first. Tor and his companions are being pursued by magic users and his dragon is having a hard time carrying four people. They manage to escape through doorway and end up in a distant city. Unfortunately the pursuit didn't end there. They were still being chased through the city. The story ends with Tor taking a massive risk. Will it pay off?
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters are all well developed, and the story keeps you guessing at what will happen next. Tor and Saboraak are an enjoyable pair that make you feel fully immersed in the experience. I'd recommend this book (the 2nd one in the Dragon Chameleon series) to anyone that is a fan of dragons and an epic adventure broken up into short reads that don't take long to finish along the way.
The book was amazing. I wonder if he got special magic powers now. That hide out was an amazing find. I would of woke every one up and go there than sleep. I would never leave my bonded dragon alone.
It very sad they had to be separated.
Wish the book was longer.
I do hope they become mates as they truly are meant for each other.
Well I am loving the plot twists.
I hope for more time between the bonded two. Cannot wait till book 3.
I so enjoyed this second book in the series. Awesome action and adrenaline . Definitely a page turner. It’s wonderful to see the connection between Tor and Saboraak developer and blossom. For the first time a cliffhanger didn’t feel like one. It felt like a competition of a bond between true friends. Looking forward to the next book.
This is the second book in the Dragon Chameleon series and picks up where the first one left off. We watch Tor and Saboraak develop their relationship more while dealing with the action and suspense thrown at them. I look forward to reading more about the characters in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Tor, Saboraak, Zyla, Zin and Bataar are heading to what they hope is safety. There are injuries and they get separated. Nothing ever really goes smoothly does it? I am loving this story. Tor and Saboraak are awesome together and I love they conversations. Can't wait to see what this group gets up to next.
Sarah has started this series with a bang and continues with the same fast paced, enthralling action. Tor and Saboraak are an engaging partnership, I love the witty (sometimes sarcastic) exchanges between them as Saboraak tries to bring compassion and knowledge to Tor's act before you think attitude.
There are so many story threads opening in book 2. I am so curious about the magic systems and the way they are used. I am loving the new characters in this book too and the way Tor has to decide each time who to trust. Wilson is developing a very well-crafted new bad guy too. My daughter has already read Book 1 & 2 twice because she loves it so much!
HOW DOES SHE CONTINUE TO DO IT? My twenty-sixth read from author Sarah K.L. Wilson and the second book in the Dragon Chameleon series. I've run out of superlatives to describe her writing. I look forward to the next book in this already entertaining series, Dragon Chameleon: City of Ice. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Heart stopping. Tor seems to stumble from one adventure (disaster) to another, making it out the other side by the seat of his pants. Totally loveable, absolutely crazy, wonderfully engaging. I’m hooked on a new series. Highly recommended.
The second in the Dragon Chameleon series. The quest continues as does the back in forth between Tor and Saboraak. For a man who says he's not a hero, he does some pretty heroic things. Read this page-turner to see what happens next.
It was Good. Tor and Saboraak's relationship is developing nicely and plot is following in Great pace to make twists and turns in most unexpected places. Will this duo survive The City full of deception? Check it out in this book.
Wow! What a read! This was so full of action and adventure, twists, turns and excitement that I only have one word for this - breathless! That is how this book left me feeling throughout my read. I can't recommend this enough for fans of fantasy adventure! Can't wait to read the next in the series!
Book two in the series and just as good as the first. He is getting more and used to the company he keeps that’s for sure. Like I said about not usually my cup of tea but I’m glad I read these. Roll on book three. Highly recommended.
I am finding that this series is enlightening and we'll worth the continued following to the next chapter and experience. There is just enough to lead one on to the next part of the book
Tor is one of the most conflicted heroes, ever! Is he a rogue? Is he a hero? Even he isn't sure, but we know he will figure it out with the help of Saboraak (who's a VERY smart dragon). The saga continues...can't wait for more!
I loved Roalcan in the previous series, now Saboraak is wiggling her way into my heart. I so loved this second book in the series. Awesome action,World Building, and Characters. Definitely a page turner. I can not wait to read the next book.
