Sadik Ellis blew into my rather insipid world at breakneck speed and with gripping force. He held all the features: striking feline eyes, golden russet skin, incredible sex appeal, wealth exuding like the enticing scent of cologne, and mind-blowing determination.
He was also trouble from the other side of the tracks, something I’d sensed. Sadik was an Ellis man with a solid education, his own thriving businesses, and self-obtained wealth. However, the Ellis family was known for their long underbelly ruling of the state of New Jersey. When Sadik assured his life was separate of his father’s, I believed him each time.
I fell completely and dangerously head over heels for him. And, my God, all the red flags were there. Yet I ignored them all, throwing caution to the winds of naivety just to add a little spice to my mundane world.
A world that will never be the same because I allowed it to be infiltrated by an Ellis.
Publisher’s Note: “He Who Is a Friend” is book ONE of a THREE book series. It ends on a suspenseful CLIFFHANGER. This book contains angst, violence, profanity, sexual explicit content, and gory material. If any of these elements is not what you prefer between the pages of a novel, this is not the venture for you.
Love Belvin is a native of the Tri-State area and now lives in the Delaware Valley. She's an avid reader and enjoys dinner parties with her closest girlfriends. While she enjoys many things, nothing excites her more than curling up with a glass of wine and a good romance novel.
Love has been given the moniker "adult contemporary series queen." She is the author of the "Love's Improbable Possibility," "Wayward Love," and "Love Unaccounted" serials. Her two standalones, “Love's Inconvenient Truth” and "Low Love, Low Fidelity" are available. Love Belvin is also the co-author of the "Connecticut Kings" series. She's currently penning the journey of her latest captivating clients.
The amount of cheating men that surround the MC’s was really astounding. None of these women leave their cheating spouse but just seem to accept it. I found H’s cheating dad having 2 young girlfriends living with him in the same house as his wife really disgusting. His brother cheats and gets ow pregnant around the same time as his wife, and guess what the wives stay with them still! I felt very let down as a woman to see all these women just accepting their men cheating as though that kind of behaviour although not wanted but nevertheless tolerated. I can’t read a book where I ended up disrespecting most of the characters including the H for his acceptance of his father’s girlfriends and yet gets all upset about his mother having ONE lover. Series not for me obviously.

All she’s ever wanted was family! At one point in her life she had exactly that however, after losing both parents and having her brother imprisoned all in a span of a few years Bilan feels alone in the world. Estranged from her extended family, Bilan pours herself into work and school to combat the loneliness that tries to creep into her mind and heart daily.
For him, family is everything. Although corrupt in many ways, the Ellis family is an extremely tight knit bunch. They ride hard for each other and move as a unit. A dysfunctional one, but a unit nonetheless. Sadik is the middle and favorite child of both parents. He’s done the best he can to stay away from his father’s illegal dealings and make an honest name for himself but he is not without blemishes himself. At 39, Sadik is ready to finally establish a legacy of his own and he had no idea that one visit to a diner for sweet potato pie would have his emotions tied in knots! Sadik fell in love fast and hard!!
LB it’s clear that you got the power!!! These series just keep getting better and better!!! I was warned that Sadik wasn’t nothing to play with and so far no lies have been told!! The BDE is plain as day! Bilan, sis 🗣️Sadik ain’t playing with you!!! This man is smitten. He’s an aggressive alpha and is ready to claim what’s rightfully his! The drama in this book played out like an HBO or showtime series. One minute I was 30% in and I blinked finding myself ready for book 2. The series is THAT GOOD and I can’t wait to see how the drama continues to unfold! The snakes have been revealed and I know a few more are on the way! I’m ready to find out whats next for this crew!
I'm at a loss for words. I'm not sure how the drama sped up the remaining five chapters. Sadik simply walked into Bilan's life and shook things up. So much has transpired that I have no idea what's going to happen next. Will Sadik track down Bilan? Will Bilan remain concealed? Like I really pulled a all-nighter with this book lord.
Whew Child!!!! You have to be Spiritually, Emotionally, Mentally and Physically Ready when you are about to read author Love Belvin's books. Queen Belvin literally takes you on a journey that you will never ever forget.
Sadik Ellis, the second born of the Ellis Clan, is controlled, calculated, brilliant, sexy, murderous, loyal to his family and an astute businessman. Sadik would like to eventually settle down but not before getting things straightened out within his family. Namely the refusal to take over his father's business, Sadik has worked damn hard to make a name for himself in the business world but the fact that he is an Ellis the stigma will always remain.
Bilan Asad-Yasin is a woman about to graduate from college, looking at graduate schools, a baker in a family diner. Her parents are deceased and her brother is in jail, her parents family she has no connection too. Bilan is literally on her own with her dog and his name is Dog. Bilan has no idea what she is going to do after graduation which is approaching quickly, besides working at the diner, she doesn't have any job prospects lined up. Bilan's works to keep herself busy to ward off the loneliness and then Sadik walks into her diner one night and orders sweet potato pie.
Bilan had a powerful prophecy spoken over her life, by Pastor Ezra Carmichael while his wife Lex Grier laid hands on her (In Covenant With Ezra), Bilan had no idea what any of it meant because she is Muslim, and what she did not know was with Sadik coming into her life like a Category 5 Tornado disrupting and uprooting everything that she has ever known, that she would be calling on the God that Pastor Carmichael spoke to her about needing Him and Only Him.
Let me tell you something, I finished this book last night and will be starting Book 2 "He Who is A Lover" today. All I can say is, "If my mind was blown in this first book then I know in reading the last two books in this series I will have to use a vacuum to suck up the rest of the pieces to be put back together" LOL!!!
When I was just 4% in this novel, I received a word during Ezra’s sermon that I have read daily since then. That is the thing about Love’s novels: you get a literary escape as well as spiritual gems that you can apply to your daily life. I always walk away having learned something. It has truly been a pleasure getting to know Love’s new client. The Ellis family is an unpredictable bunch that keep you on the edge of your seat. This novel played through my head like a movie and I can not wait til the next installment drops I was very happy to get an appearance from my favorite pastor. I think it is time to re-visit his series;)
Love Belvin and I have a love hate relationship. Some of her books I love and some I loathe. This book here....got on my nerves. SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!! I was cool with the main male character. However, the woman in here was on my last. She was so childish. She was annoying and overall on my nerves. There were some very predictable parts and it seems like the end was rushed. I liked that she incorporated characters from her others books into it. But, for the most part I was over it. I hope in book 2 (which wont be out for a year) the woman does a lot of growing up. She basically let this man manipulate her with jewelry, clothes, a few trips and sex. He never really answered her questions and it was a whole heqp of Jerry Springer drama. If you want to syart reading Love Belvin then I would start with The Ezra series or the Rhythm series. This one isn't it. I gave 2 stars bc the writing was good etc. But it was just too much. I was literally rolling my eyes at some parts.
This is my first read by this author and I must say I don't like this story at all. I've only made it to 26% and I can't take no more. Bilan makes me wanna slap her damn face off. How you so educated and you don't got NOTHING figured out for your life? Then I understand seeing a fine man can have some effect on you, but she act like this man is God himself. He can't look at her, talk to her, touch her, walk passed her, etc without her damn near abt to pass out. I mean damn she couldn't even have as convo without being embarrassed abt something, or shaking and shivering. Then Sadik would have been a great character at least to the part I read to if he wasn't a coward in his father's presence. If it's one thing I can't stand is when the authors allow the characters to get ran over by their parents. You a grown ass man and you acting like a lil b#$ch when your pops come around.. Ohhhh that just melted my butter.
After all that I gave the story a 2 stars because there were no errors. And even with how much I didn't like this story and how sooo very slow the build up was, I will try another story by this author.
This really sucked me in towards the end! I just really can’t get over the Ellis family dysfunction. It reminded me of families who try to appear almost perfect to outsiders but when you get into their space - all the skeletons start falling out. What a mess but they entertained me so I’m hoping to read more about them in book 2. Also, I have to be honest - Bilan made me roll my eyes real hard at her when Sadiq came to her rescue. I mean…he had to save you! All in all, great read and I’m definitely ready for more. Oh! And I loved how the author included a hyperlink for us to see the stadium the concert was in. Very cool!
This book was so engaging! Sadik with his exotic looks and commanding/demanding personality was my favorite character. He was a true rider for his family and although it was extreme I loved that about him. Everything about him was extra and those that he really loved, felt it and saw it through his actions. When he met Bilan you could tell he was completely taken by her but torn because of their family history. She was very guarded, but could not resist the connection between her and Sadik. This book was well written and I cannot wait to see what journey the next book takes us on.
This read just like I was watching a movie. It was a different feel from all of Loves other books and that’s what make me love this one so much. It’s a little of everything, action, suspense, murder, betrayal, love and sex!!! This runs a close second to Ezra’s series for me-that has always been my favorite. Maybe it’s the ropes lol Bravo ma’am! You never disappoint! But did I see winter 2019 (cries) lol I can’t wait to read the next one!!
Mr. Ellis is the KANG of audacity! But babbbyyyy he is sooo sexy! Bilan got her hands full. Sis had no idea what dis KANG was gonna do. His family is crazy as all get up, but I have no doubt he gonna cover her! This was my very first read by LB and I have not left since! I love it here in the LBU!
Love Belvin has done it again. She manages to make me love her clients(characters) all the time! Book 1 is laying the foundations for many levels of love, trust, loyalty, some betrayal and family dynamics of that will be tested. I love the suspense as the story progresses, it unravels a new element that takes me out...BUT I have to keep reading to learn more. It’s definitely a page turner. The romance, love and chemistry between Sadik and Bilan is HOT and I could feel their love jumping off the page! I’m patiently waiting for book 2. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK! (Suggest new readers start from the beginning of her catalog and take the Journey)
He who is a friend is not your typical LB book I understood going in this was going to be different and it was just up and down with connecting I had problems.Dont get me wrong I love LB it’s just this one didn’t do it for me!
Now that is a book!!! That's how you tell a truly dirty, grimy story. Even though Bilan is tripping right now I ain't even mad, because she'll be back, right where she belongs!!!😁😁
OoooWeee, this tale is something special. First time three books to complete the story didn't upset me. 😁😁😁 Buy it, read it and enjoy!!👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥
Intense is the best adjective to describe this book. The love, passion between these two, drama of family, his hustle, his need of her, and ultimately her need of him was intense.
Bilan and Sadik are from two different worlds, but equally connected. She’s poor, struggling without what he has - family.
When they meet it is mutual attraction, but he has an “issue.” A secret. Despite that he pursues her relentlessly. Working hard at getting her to give in despite that “issue.”
He adorns her with gifts and a lifestyle she wouldn’t otherwise have. She is a bit overwhelmed, but not running from what he’s offering - which is so much more than “a friend.”
At one point I was not sure how these two would ever be compatible outside of physical attraction. Nevertheless he pursued her even against his better judgment and secrets.
Sadik is alpha to the core. Pushy, and so demanding at times that his reasoning is mouth dropping. I caught myself saying a few times, “Is he serious?” Sadik was, and the demands he made of her were because of his need to have her. It was an amazing to read the balance of his possessive posturing, concern and care of Bilan. He was described in a manner that kept the reader intrigued and turning the pages for what was to come. At one point, Sadik expressed in a dramatic explosion his love of Bilan. It was so intense, so alpha, and so Sadik. I was already team Sadik, but it was a done deal then.
Sadik has “issues.” The question was, would Bilan run or be forced to bow out.
Bilan was sweet, beautiful inside and out, but at times timid when it came to expressing her need of Sadik. He on the other hand was brutally honest most times where she was concerned. Oddly enough the writer was able to find balance between the two characters.
At the core of the book was his family dynamic and her lack of, which had so many twist and turns you found yourself falling into dark thoughts about her family and some in his. Half of the book I waited for comeuppance to be meted out on both sides.
The book ends with what you knew would likely come. There’s a Part II, which I can’t wait for. I’m honestly not sure how this will work out, but one thing I know is Sadik will exhaust all options and resources to be with Bilan.
I recommend this book and the next release.
Pros:
Well written, I saw a few mistakes in the beginning, which was odd for this author. It’s not distracting but it was odd for her. Bilan is beautiful and intriguing. Sadik is alpha to the core, with swag, and more. He knows what he wants, which makes him even more attractive. The family dynamic made you love Bilan more. Ezra and Lex make an appearance. It wasn’t overwhelming though. Just perfect.
All I can say is Love Belvin has done it again! Love has introduced us to new characters or shall we say "Clients" as she calls them. Sadik is an alpha male, smart, successful, and handsome. Bilan is intriguing, hard working, beautiful, but very naive. You can clearly see these two are from different worlds but Sadik always gets what he wants and what he wants is Bilan. HWIAF gives you the perfect balance of chemistry, friendship, loyalty, swagger, suspense and love. The way Love tells a story is like peeling an onion, you get layer after layer. I always feel like I'm right there with the characters when reading a Love Belvin story. The supporting character are noteworthy and helps brings this story together. They are many moving pieces going on and you find yourself immersed in the story. I absolutely found myself swooning over Sadik 😍, he knows what he wants and is not afraid to go after it. Even though I was skeptical about how Bilan will keep up with a guy like Sadik, I believe she compliments him because she can see him for who is and not what he has to offer. I can't wait for Book 2. Great job Love!
O.M.G. - I could NOT put this book down!!! I didn't expect this story to turn the way it did, but when it did and I was all the way here for it!
Everything I thought was going to happen did NOT happen, which I love because I can usually predict the way a story is going to go. This story has a LOT to it. There's so much....I cannot even begin to put the story in a category....erotica? sex??? (TONS OF IT) romance? crime? adventure?.....way too much.
I'm probably going to have to come back and edit or update this review because I literally just closed the book and am shooketh!!!!
I waited almost two months after the release to read this because I knew Love was going to mess up my life with this series and I was right! Sadik is truly a kind soul but his family is the most! Iban is trash! He’s selfish, jealous and reckless and doesn’t deserve Sadik’s loyalty and love. Bilan was surrounded by a bunch of selfish folks too but didn’t see clearly until it was too late. Bilan and Sadik were the best thing to happen to each other. Now I have to wait, tortured, for book two.
The beginning of the story was a complete drag . I didn't even know what I was reading. You tried to bunch a whole bunch of storylines together. I was shocked that the reviews were so high. This book was honestly the worst I've read from love belvin . Too many different ppl you used in this book it was a drag the ending seemed rushed.
I didn't expect this. Not one bit...ok maybe I did expect the writing to be superb. But to have me reading this book and holding my stomach at 5 in the morning. Whew child as my brother would say "you got to be more careful ".I thought about holding out until I knew book 3 of this series was going to come out but I canned that idea as soon as the release date was approaching. Then I said maybe if I read slow then it won't be so bad to hold out to the next book. Yeah right that thought went out the window after chapter 3.
If you have not read anything by Love Belvin then I highly suggest, advise or recommend this book. Sadik is unapologetic all alpha. Bilan is a sweetheart but when there worlds collide you are in for a treat. Sadik is not your typical successful man. His family underworld dynamics keeps him for the straight and narrow lifestyle he so desperately wants. Bilan is sweet a little naive but her life growing up was not a walk in the park. She craves a family but she really isn't prepare for the life Sadik is offering.
All the staples you want in a book is there. Chemistry, character development, plausibility , annoying and loveable secondary characters. It's all there. I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait for book two. Bravo Love Belvin Bravo!!
This is a full body read! It is chock full of all that we've come to expect from Miss Love Belvin. Drama, check. Passion, ✔. Lust, love, and Loyalty. Check,✔,and check!!! It's a page turner, so you will want to immerse yourself in this story. But I caution you to take your time with this one. Sadik is to be savored.
If you're familiar with the LB Universe, you know that Miss Belvin can do ominous foreshadowing like no other. She set a stage for this emotional rollercoaster that did not disappoint!!! We have a heroine in Bilan, who is an intriguing, naive, "around the way girl" who is a dear friend to her tight knit tribe. And we have in our hero Sadik, an alpha male who is worldly, intelligent, and fine. And with his wealth, we would assume this "man's man" has it all: respect, power, influence.... But what he needs is to be seen for who he is, not what he has or what he can offer. He needs a friend. Belvin transports us to exotic locales, and keeps us on the edge of our seats with tons of passion, disloyalty, and duplicity! With every release I think Belvin is at her best. HWIAF just proves that while she's clearly at the head of the class, she continues to mature in her craft. Well done!
He Who is a friend (Sadik Book 1) by Love Belvin is a excellent read. This is my first time reading from Love Belvin. I want to read about Sadik, Bilan and the characters. Love Belvin does a good job.
Sadik and Bilan have the weird friendship and relationship connection. Sadik is controlling her future but he couldn’t open up his family business to her. He has his selfish way to get her but he was destroy her life and her family. No matter what, Bilan and her AB couldn’t get it alone but Ellis men are playing the dangerous game and crazy. Bilan should listen to Randi. Randi is right about Ellis family. AB should opening up about his issues with Sadik to Bilan.
I can’t wait to read part two of this series. Would Bilan wake up and move on with her life? Could she walk away from drama with Sadik? Will Sadik opening up to Bilan about her brother’s death?
Good Read: Book Nerd Sadik is selfish ⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Sadik's mysterious nature & tantalizing looks combined with Bilan's naivety had me caught up from the 1st page. From their initial meeting to the end, my attention was held as their need to begin as friends was well defined. Supporting cast of characters proved to have their own storyline as they were as intriguing as the main characters. Storyline was well written as different situations were discussed & exhilarating romantic scenes. While it took me a couple of evenings to complete, time spent was well worth it for the beginning of this series has me so ready to read next part
Love doesn’t disappoint and I’ve read all of her books and the array of emotions I’ve felt while reading He Who Is a Friend has left me speechless, so speechless that I may have to reread the last few chapters to make sure I can fully process what happened, part me feels Sadik is good for Bilan. He’s a fierce protector and she needs that especially since she doesn’t have any family that has her back, but on the hand...he’s beautifully flawed, possessive and all ALPHA. I can’t wait to see what book 2 will show me.
