Trysten's heroism and dragon riding skills may have won over the prince of Cadwaller, but her future as Dragoneer of Aerona weyr remains uncertain.
A threat unlike any the village has ever faced is on the move. Aerona lies in the path of destruction. To save those she loves, Trysten must set aside her distrust of Prince Aymon and join with him to stop a force that would destroy the entire kingdom.
Victory will require more than a drawn sword, a tight bowstring, and a dragon full of fire. To win the battle, Trysten must accept her true nature and risk becoming the very thing Prince Aymon fears. Once again she will redefine what it means to be the Dragoneer.
The third book in The Dragoneer series ups the action and deepens the mystery in this dragon-packed fantasy adventure. It features a strong, female hero and a compelling story appropriate for most ages.
I am enjoying the story but it's getting harder and harder to like Trysten. For a young girl she certainly is full of herself, interrupting the prince or anyone who doesn't agree with anything she says. I'm all about girl power but I like it to be backed by a little common sense. She has no respect for anyone else but expects them to respect her. Acts like a spoiled brat. She's always too busy to finish any conversation with anyone but I'm not exactly sure what she is doing. Constantly handing off her beloved dragon to be taken care of by others. I wish there was more of a relationship there. I wish there was more of a relationship everywhere. She seems to barely have relationships with anyone actually. So much potential that I feel the author is missing here...but that said, I am enjoying the story and will continue on to the next.
In Aerona Stands it is Trysten who really takes a stand as Prince Aymon discloses to everyone that she is more than the dragoneer of their weyr, she is a dragon lord and from thereon Trysten knows she has to accept fully who she is and act as such. The western army is on the move and they are armed with vicious weapons previously unheard of, and they were keeping the alpha dragon grounded, which showed that they were aware of Trysten's powers and ability to take their horde if the alpha was killed. Where the ancients who had come to ask her to leave with them, behind the army and the upcoming battle, or were the threats coming from two different foes? Trysten had no intention of leaving with the ancients so she kept the pendant and the sword on her all the time after the ancients visit. She realised that these things were somehow protecting her and that the ancients could not take her against her will. Prince Aymon and her horde had to work together under the guidance of Elevera, the alpha of Aerona weyr if they were to survive the upcoming battle and Trysten knew that many would not and it broke her heart to use the dragons to save her village but if nothing else she knew her duty as dragoneer and would see Aerona safe. I love this heroine for her courage, loyalty and steadfastness, I love that Paege never wavers in his support of her and that she is mindful not only of the wisdom of dragons but that of mothers too. Kaylar the first woman rider to follow Trysten also proves to be more than a friend as she gathers more women to train, giving Trysten hope that even if she were to fall in battle women would be weyrmen and ride dragons from thereon bringing about the change she had fought so hard to bring about. But most of all I loved the way Trysten always spoke her mind and stood her ground when facing Aymon and changing his mind about her was one of her biggest wins, she is awesome! Dying to go on reading the rest of the Dragoneer series!
This book grabbed me from the very first page and didn’t let go! The world of the Dragoneers just keeps growing richer and more intense. The war that’s been building finally erupts, and the ties to the Originals — the first Dragoneers and their dragons — give everything a sense of destiny and deep-rooted power.
Trystan truly comes into her own here. Her bond with the dragons is breathtaking — raw, emotional, and powerful. You feel their connection in every moment of battle and every decision she makes. They aren’t just her allies; they’re a part of her very soul.
The tension between Trystan and the prince adds another layer — not romantic, but combative. He’s constantly trying to control her, to shape her into what he thinks a Dragoneer should be. But Trystan refuses to bow down. She stands her ground, defiant and determined, proving that true strength isn’t about obedience — it’s about standing firm in who you are.
Areona Stands is a story of power, legacy, and the courage to rise against those who would break you. The war, the dragons, the clash of wills — it all comes together in a heart-pounding read that’s easily one of the best in the series. I’m off to the 4th book.
The saga continues with Trystan growing in her prowess with the dragons and as a human being. If you enjoyed the first two books in the series, you will enjoy this 3rd part in the series. The characters are well shaped and a million little conflicts and their resolutions swirl through the sentences and draw wonderful pictures in this reader’s mind. There is more to come in the series, I have already purchased them. Right now, I am sorry I did, as it seems like far too much to the story than where book 3 ends. The ending to this book makes the quest of Trystan complete in my mind, as though she has made a decision to go no further in here protection of her village and the kingdom to which it belongs.
This book is well written and well edited, something I greatly appreciate. Fellow readers if you want a read that will take you to another place in time if the one you are in at the moment feels less than satisfactory- pick up this series and escape to Aerona. You just might be as glad as I am that you did.
I would just like to write a few lines to ask you to read this book. I normally don't like writing reviews, because I mostly talk about problems in books, (not that all of them are bad, but I always think they could do things differently). Yes, this one has a few problems, but I was so surprised by the quality of the book, the plot is fantastic, a female hero struggling to get what she believes in, just cool. I'll add the same review to all six books in the series if I like them as much as I loved this one.
Terrible book. Was hoping after 3 books there would be some resolution or character growth.
But no. MC is the best purely because she is born special. She wins with no learned skills, or effort, and doesn’t grow. She makes the worst tactical choices but survives purely by literal plot armor. I lost count of the times she said “I’m not having this argument again”.
For a book about dragon riders the dragons have no personalities or real agency. They are basically flying vehicle.
Very engaging tale of dragons and those who bond with them. We have a forbidden female heroine, both outspoken and stubborn, but gifted beyond measure in her control of the dragons. Very well told, full of excitement, intrigue, adventure and promising much more in the books to come. I read books 1 through 3. I hope to get additional books when I can afford them.
My mother used to pester me to read this book or that book with strong women as lead character. The premise of these books always were romances. I don't read those. This series though fit the bill. Dragons?, you bet. Fantasy, oh yez!!
I love all things Dragon and this series is superb. It incorporates colorful characters and beautiful dragons who fly through the skies in war and peace. Tons of action, drama, mystery and intrigue, I cannot wait for book 4. Marvelous!!
This one wasn’t a cliffhanger, so I’m not in a snit like at the end of the last book! Relatable characters and wonderful relationships with the dragons make these books easy to lose myself in.
Aerona must prepare for war. The Western Horde is marching towards the village, and the villagers and Dragons put their trust into the Dragoneer. They know that Trysten will save them all. Another fantastic book that kept one turning the pages.
Every single time you think you have a min to sit back and relax through the cadence of Tristan life.... something completely unexpected pops up... then you are all into it and the book ends! Gahh! Got to go find the next in the series.
These books are amazing you get the Dragon and the riders story , the characters are so well plotted it makes you care about them , the storyline is first class I recommend them a well deserved 5 stars
For fantasy this is a superb model for young girls/women. It was fantastic to see the heroine go head to toe with more than one male in authority! Read to see for yourself.
