Drew "Doom" Kettinger is a badass hockey player with a bit of a temper. One too many bar fights has him sitting in the office of the General Manager while he awaits his fate. With punishment served, Drew is on his way to help coach a pee wee hockey team that the GM's nephew coaches. Drew hates kids, but when he sees the coach he's going to be working with, he figures maybe it won't be so bad. Evan Callahan is not happy about getting stuck with Drew Kettinger, but his uncle insists that Drew can help his team start winning some games. Evan doesn't date closeted guys, but when Drew pushes the issue, he finds himself giving in. With feelings and emotions getting thrown into the mix, Evan struggles to stay in a relationship where one guy is out and the other is not. He can't keep this up much longer. But leaving Drew would mean breaking his own heart.
Andria Large is a traditionally published and self-published contemporary romance author. She doesn’t always follow the rules, so you will find both M/F and M/M books mixed into some of her series.
Henry from the Beck Brothers Series was the first book she self-published. Not expecting anything to really come of it, she was shocked to find the book caught wind and readers were asking for more. Writing books was not something she had set out to do. She wrote stories for herself, as a hobby. Now that it has become her career, she wouldn’t have it any other way.
Andria grew up in Philadelphia, but now lives in New Jersey with her two daughters and wonderfully supportive husband, who frequently accompanies her at signings. The events that she attends every year are one of her favorite things about being an author. She loves meeting and conversing with her readers, but also enjoys finding new ones.
Andria considers herself open and friendly, so feel free to send her a message if you have a question or just want to chat.
This was a cute enough story, with a few details that just didn't make sense. Like taking a guy with anger issues, and sending him to....work with kids? Instead of, you know, anger management or something? And I thought Evan would have been a bit more understanding about Drew's fears about coming out, since he was former hockey player himself. He should know well what Drew would be risking by coming out.
Also, I really don't see two guys in a fairly new relationship, one a pro hockey player, the other an assistant coach, with all the travel these guys have to do
What I did really love was that Drew did seem to grow throughout the story, and this hockey romance actually had some hockey. I don't know much about the sport, so I can't speak for accuracy, but it bugs me when sports romances are pretty much sport-free, so props there.
A few minor editing errors, some your/you're mistakes, for those who hate that sort of thing.
Heartwarming story of a closeted hockey star. He falls in love and struggles to keep the love of his life from walking away. I really enjoyed the story and both characters are likeable. Extra bonus at the end, which I won't spoil. I think the main thing for me with this book is the writing didn't flow easily. It seemed a bit stunted at times. There is also a little bit too much detail to the every day motions of the characters. Other readers might not notice this, we all read so differently.
Loved It! So darn good. Handsome Hockey players & romance, what's not to like?! There was a bit of angst, so sad. Drew... It took me a bit to finally like him, he was an a- hole in the beginning, I started to love him about halfway through. I loved Evan right from the start, what a sweetheart. The story was so good & going at a great pace to put everything in there, I laughed & cried, mostly happy tears, especially at the end, amazing. A TBR!
While it was a good story it was just a surface story. No real depth to anyone or in any of the storylines. Yes he has his feelings for Evan and the whole I'm scared to come out thing but the sex is just sex, the game is the game, helps coach but doesn't really get into bonding with any of the kids. Now he has it all..the man, the game, the kid, his friends...done!! Simple...easy..
Love and Hockey was a fast paced, enjoyable m/m hockey romance. That had a lovely mix of sweetness, heat and angst. And some great characters, including the main two Evan and Drew; and I was completely engaged throughout. Which is why I would happily recommend this story to others.
This was overall a good story. I had some minor issues that confused me. Doom/Drew was a bit over the top and I struggled liking him. I liked Evan right away. I also felt the story ended a little too fast/wrapped up a little too nicely for me.
This story was okay but didn’t display real depth of the characters. It seemed surface and did display the author ability to engage. I think even low angst stories need more feelings
This was a quick read and I loved it. It paced beautifully and I liked how the characters communicated with each other. It made sense, there wasn't competing drama. The focus was on the 2 main characters and their budding relationship.
This is a cutely written, hockey themed, short story romance. Acceptable character development and relatively few grammatical errors. There are a couple of decent drama events and a feel-good ending to leave a smile.
I really liked the plot, the characters and the writing style of this story. But I found it rushed. Everything happened so quick or was glossed over. I would have loved a little more pace&depth.
