Love at the Christmas Ball: A Regency Romance Christmas Collection

Rate this book
This collection of eight full novellas presents some very different heroes and heroines, but the common theme is that they all find love, despite trials and tribulations along the way, in some way related to attending a Christmas Ball, in the area surrounding the town of Upper Nettlefold.

The stories in this collection, because they all happen in Upper Nettlefold, have things which happen, that influence the other stories. So the order in which they are presented here aligns with the timeline in which events in the stories happen (although many are in parallel). Read through this collection in order, and you will find that each story builds on the ones before, weaving the magic of community and interconnection between characters. There is also a map of Upper Nettlefold to help you visualise everything as you read. Although each story can stand alone, we’re sure that you’ll love finding the linkages as you go.

This is our second visit to Upper Nettlefold, but it won’t be our last. (Our first was the collection ‘Love, One Regency Summer’ which will only be available for a limited time, so, if you like these stories, you’ll want to grab it before its gone!) You may see other collections based here, or you may see individual books from the various authors, but we will keep expanding the stories about the people you’ll meet in this collection.

We have also each given you a short preview of another of our books.

A wonderful collection of Christmas stories that is really unique in that they are all taking place at a Christmas Ball. I love when there are many stories focused at one event, but each can be read as a standalone.
To Dance With a Dangerous Duke by Arietta RIchmond
Just by the title I was enchanted. Who would not want to dance with a dangerous duke! I was totally enchanted with this story and although is was a novella, I felt it contained everything I love in a historical romance. Lady Isabelle was excited about the house party and Christmas ball being held at their home. Having gone through a long illness and eventually death of her father, she had not been able to meet many eligible men. But she was hiding a secret and prayed that nobody who attended knew. Unfortunately someone did and that blackguard blackmailed her to marry him to keep her secret safe. Lyon Hartley, the Duke of Dangerfield, was very unhappy with his life and a recent incident with a woman which had made him almost remove himself from society. But with an invitation to attend a house party and ball being held by an old schoolmate he decided to attend in hopes it would lighten his mood. He met Lady Isabelle and was totally enchanted. This is a story of love found when least expected and the struggle to avert a disaster if possible. I was totally immersed by the author's wonderful prose and indepth characters I hated it to end!!

More to come!

All these stories are sweet romances and either take place in Nettlefold or have a connection with the village. Some of the stories have characters who are connected to one another, as in the first and second story, which concerns two friends. They are all entertaining stories, although some of the endings seemed a little rushed.
To dance with a dangerous duke.
Lady Isabelle and Lyon, Duke of Dangerfield were drawn to each other upon their first and subsequent meetings at her brother’s Christmas house party and ball. Both have their reasons for being hesitant though. However there is another suitor for her hand in marriage, who will use any means to get what he wants.
The Christmas Fortune
I first read about Addie and Phineas in the previous series of stories set in Nettlefold. The story was left as they reached London. It now continues with Addie being reunited with her Uncle and she now has a large dowry. Even though Addie is besieged by possible suitors there is only one man she wants. Addie is a brave woman and Phineas an honourable man. They have an enemy to thwart before they can move on.
I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I will review the last story in this collection, The Christmas Fortune by Isabella Thorne. Adelaine Walker had been destitute after the death of her parents and was kidnapped and sold as a sex slave by Lord Whittendon. She escaped and with Phineas' help was chamnpioned by her father's relative, rich but old uncle Lord Livingsten, who took her to London, outfitted her with a glorious wardrobe, set a large dowry upon her, and escorted her to social events of the ton. This story tells of Phineas continuing to court her, while hoping for his sister's return from disappearence, and how Adelaine met Lord Whittendon at a London ball and thinking he did not recognize her when they were introduced, plans to meet him again to see if she could find out something about Phineas' missing sister as a Christmas present for him. But when lord Whittendon picks her up the next day, it soon becomes obvious that he does remember her and she has fallen into his trap again, now not only is she in trouble, but now so is her uncle's money. Read these great stories.

A quick and enjoyable very clean novella

The continuing tale of "Finn" and "Addie". This story brings the reader back to London where Adelaide is ensconced into her uncle's household. She and Phinneas are still "seeing" each other. Things come to a culmination as things from the past are brought to light. But, what will happen to Addie now that she is well known to the "Ton"? A sweet, clean novella that is a very quick and enjoyable read. I would highly recommend this story,

Eight more wonderful stories about the people in the village of Upper Nettlefold, all centered around a Christmas Ball held by the Duke of Kilmerstan. These authors manage to weave events from the other books into each story so that the reader can discover how the lives of their own characters affect others. Lots of ups and downs in each book, with a few twists and a little intrigue, make for interesting reading. The stories are well-written and kept my interest from start to finish. I highly recommend this collection.

Good overcomes evil

even though life was difficult, good overcame the evil that had held Addie. And love came to both hero and heroine. Very enjoyable read.

This is the second visit to Upper Nettlefold. All the stories occur over the same period - all involving the seasonal ball.

The third collection is the autumnal one Love, one Regency autumn.
