Another FANTASTIC adventure into some serious crimes with DI Sara Ramsey and her amazing team!! This author never fails to give you a story worth reading, relating to incidents happening today and pursued with care, feeling, and most of all dignity for everyone involved! Sara has been with her team for awhile now and all are gelling well together, which is so needed as they learn of another child abduction, increasing the number to 4 in the past month. At the same time a report comes in of a person on a moped throwing acid in a victim's face!! The horror of these crimes can engulf the team or light a fire underneath them, with DI Sara pushing the 'branches' beneath them all to get everyone moving on the investigation. As the investigation continues, Sara has a few bizarre incidents at her home, and since her cat was poisoned a short time ago, her heart is in her throat wondering if the actions are coincidence or is someone targeting her... You may need to remind yourself to breathe, as you squirm on the edge of your seat, unable to tear your eyes away from the pages... A 5 STAR story that feels So real, as if Your child has disappeared...
The man runs her off the road, and then grabs her daughter. But the woman was full of fight and not willing to let this man run. But he's bigger, stronger, and jumps on his moped and speeds away across the railroad tracks. The woman desperately runs after him, but being dazed by a blow to her head, she hesitates and a train comes steaming by.
Several days later a woman locking up her office for the day is attacked in full daylight. The man on the moped throws acid in her face. Elsewhere, a man on a moped chases a lone woman until she falls off the curb in front of a moving bus.
DI Sara Ramsey is going to have to dig deep to find the connections behind these crimes. The missing child is just one of several that have been abducted over the last few months. There are never any ransom notes, no clues, no witnesses.
Are these random abductions .. or is there a common connection among the girls?
At the same time as she and her team are working diligently to find the culprit, her personal life, on one hand, is looking up. She's met a very nice man, but they're taking things slowly. On the other hand, someone is targeting Sara .. and she doesn't know the reason why .. or who. Her cat has been poisoned, now her front door has been painted with a warning..and lately a rock thrown through her window with a note threatening her life.
This is a fast-moving crime thriller with exceptional characters, from Sara to her amazing, talented team. The suspense starts on the first page and doesn't end until the electrifying ending.
Although second in the series, this reads easily as a stand alone. There's just enough information that whet's the appetite to start at the beginning.
Many thanks to the author for the advanced digital copy of KILLER BLOW. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This was an engaging story that keeps you interested but lacks a bit of substance. Not a bad book, but a bit too formulaic for me, there are so many authors out there that write very similar books with very similar story lines. Felt as if it was knocked out in a weekend.
Another wonderful fast-paced thriller from best-selling author, M. A. Comley. One of the things I absolutely love about her books is they have a quality of real life threading through each story. The crimes, although sometimes vicious reflect the fears each of us hold in real life. The family and personal scenes aren't always lovely-dovey, but interspersed with real life issues that we all face. Last but not least, the stories are entertaining. Characters have depth, and express many of the emotions we would express if faced with the same situations. Being the head of a homicide unit doesn't make you a super hero. You can't pull clues out of the air, and you don't have a crystal ball that says look here. You go inch by inch, with a cracking good team to put together the few clues that fall into your lap. This is what makes Killer Blow flow seamlessly. DI Sara Ramsey and her team go the extra mile, even if it's tearing apart their family lives.
Killer Blow grabs you in the very first chapter and doesn't let go until the last page. I found myself with a vested interest in Siobhan and her plight. As a mother, I cheered on Bernice as she fought for her life, and the life of her daughter. She wouldn't give up even if it meant dying. A teary conclusion for me, as I wanted her to win, but in real life we don't always win.
Nail biting moments of tragedy and loss. A crew of villains that are willing to do anything to reach their goals. But does one of them have a heart? A soft spot for Siobhan? Will they save her from a life of torture and pain? You'll have to read the book to find out. One of my favorites of 2019, and I'm waiting impatiently for the third book, which thankfully is due out soon.
Highly recommended to thriller lovers, mystery lovers and anyone who enjoys a good book.
Killer blow by M.A. Comley. Omg an absolutely fantastic read. Di Sara Ramsey is back for book 2. There is a spat of crime going around from child abduction to throwing acid in a person's face. 2 murders as well. Are they connected? Sara and her team have their work cut out. They are not sure if it's one crime or several. Plus Sara has her front door vandalised then a rock thrown through her back door window. Who is it? I really enjoyed this book. Read in 2 days. I love Sara's character. And I love how her team are too. My favourite part was near the end. I love mels books. 5*. Would give more if I could. Highly recommended.
I am absolutely loving this new crime series by this author!
The prologue for this story sets the mood for what I knew was going to be a great read and I wasn’t wrong. There are plenty of jaw dropping moments from the start, right to the very end of this novel. It made me feel bad that I got a thrill out of them even though some were pretty chilling but then come on, isn’t this why we read this sort of genre?
Anything to do with children can be bit of a harrowing read. Poor Sara and her team are rushed off their feet and under pressure to get the case solved. Not only do we have the mystery and suspense of the case, but there are some strange going on’s in Sara’s personal life which had me fearing for her safety.
Killer Blow is the perfect title for this novel. The author delivers punch after punch that will knock you sideways yet has you coming back for more. They don’t come more thrilling than this and as always with this authors books, I was well and truly hooked through out.
My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
Another fab read in this new series from M. A. Comley.
Sara Ramsey is definitely one of my favorite police inspectors, and in this second book in the series, she doesn't disappoint.
The book starts fast with a prologue that had my heart in my mouth, and it didn't let up from there. Sara and her team are on the hunt for a moped rider (or is that riders) chasing victims to their deaths, alongside a spate of missing children. Are the two crime sprees connected or does Sara have two terrible crimes to solve on her patch?
And while all this is going on, the threatening behaviour towards Sara continues. Is it connected to the death of her husband in some way? Or has Sara made more than one enemy?
As the team close in on the truth, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
Being a huge fan of this author and loving every book that gets published by MA Comley, I almost feel disloyal by saying that this is my favourite series, in a long line of favourite series by MA Comley (like choosing a favourite chils or pet). I feel that her books have evolved, matured or whatever the correct expression is. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to book 1 and 2 while this amazing series is still a baby and not too much to catch up on.
DI Sara Ramsey and her partner Carla and the rest of her super team are investigating the kidnapping of a young girl who was snatched in front of her mother and then witnessed the tragic death of her mom. What is uncovered next is shocking and cruel. Unfortunately in the cruel world we live in today, these child kidnapping stories are all too real.
Another 5* winner that I highly recommend, and luckily this amazing author does not leave her fans waiting too long for our next “fix”
I'm running out of original ways to describe how much I love this author's books. Luckily, she isn't running out of original ideas for them! This is DI Sara Ramsay's second outing and you would probably be best off reading book one first as she is, as usual for the author, a bit of a character with an interesting backstory and there's a series arc going on - not a cliffhanger as such - the main story is self-contained, but something to pick up in the next book. Well, Sara definitely has her hands full in this one with all sorts of crimes being reported in the area. The most heinous being the kidnap of a child and the subsequent death of her mother in trying to save her. All these crimes are very different but all have one thing in common leading Sara to believe that they are connected. But who and why? She definitely has her work cut out for her in getting to the bottom of things and work out the perpetrators motivation and indeed stop them before they get to their end game. This book contains quite a lot of very different crimes which sadly reflects the world we live in these days. Yes there's also the missing child, which turns out to be children, and murder all thrown into the mix which makes Sara and her team's job increasingly harder as the criminals appear to be spiralling out of control. And then we also have what is happening to Sara personally... What I love about this book is that they appear to be floundering a bit as they chase their tails with all that is going on. Then, after a few lightbulb moments, accompanied by a couple of clues, and we're off and racing to the end. Which quite accurately also describes my reading of the book, even with the extra knowledge I had from reading the criminals' parts. It's gripping, it's frenetic, delivered in a seat-of-your-pants, don't forget to breathe, way. Some of the crimes are on the gory side but, once again, there is also humour and lighter moments interspersed throughout to keep the book balanced overall. The rest of what you'd expect from the author is also maintained. Her banter and character interaction is excellent, pacing is perfect, and there is no superfluous waffle or padding. Yes there are things going on in the characters' personal lives but everything additional speaks to character development and I do like getting to know my characters in a series book. After all, hopefully, we'll be together for a while yet. Roll on next time, I can't wait to see how it all pans out for Sara and her team.
What can I say Mel has done it again. Sara is someone who you are instantly drawn to she has a past and we are slowly getting to know her. Mel pulls the story out to the point your heart is in your mouth while waiting to see what you are going to uncover about the team and the crime they are trying to solved. There are twists and turns all the way through from start to end that you just won't see coming. I Can't wait for the third book in the series. One of my favourite detectives series.
I read another in this series since I enjoy police procedurals and set in the UK. But these are just a bunch of facts, a bunch of characters but I'm not getting realistic emotions from the telling. The characters display emotions but they seem over or under done.
Please don't make me wait for the next book - I need to know what happens next to DI Sara Ramsey and her team. This is easily the best series M. A. Comley has written, and I say that as a huge fan of the Justice series. Sorry Lorne and co, but Sara is my new go to DI!
From the first few pages I was hooked, and literally couldn't read it fast enough. Would have easily been read in one sitting had I not needed to sleep, and well words are failing me.
The plot is break neck, there is a growing sense of urgency to solve these crimes, as you can see how they are escalating,. Yet DI Sara Ramsey and her team don't really have too much to go on, there are so few witnesses or anything, that it makes detecting really tricky.
Then there is Sara's personal life too, we start getting to know her a lot better, and although some of her decisions I'm not sure many would agree with, its clearly the start of a series wide story arc that I suspect will keep getting more intense.
What was a bit different was that I almost felt sorry for the criminals in this book, yes they were dastardly but they felt more like amateurs and opportunists than career bad guys. Which is a slightly different dynamic to a lot of thrillers.
Lots of little moments that will make you gasp out loud, plenty of thrills and I was spellbound as I saw just how the police tried to solve it all.
Bring on book 3, I can't wait - although I feel I may have to.
Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
As all know I am a huge fan of this author and the new series which is about Sara Ramsey. This is the second book and while it is a great book it didn't draw me in the same way as the first book. The story was strong but familiar to me in some ways. Not sure where it is coming from but it had some items that were familiar. Carla then character to me is even more stronger than Sara in a lot if ways. She has such strength and then I found her situation in which she reveals later in the book brings you more into what she is really like. Sara has a troubled past it seems not in that she was trouble but her past is very sad. Now she almost seems to be fighting herself in being happy. Mark is interesting side character and I begin to see that he can be a great addition to the cast of characters. I did enjoy the story and I love the little tease at the end which will be a kick off to the next book.
I have to say that the cover for this book is perfect for the story!
This is a well written story that has a great flow to it. I love this author’s writing style and it is so suited to this genre and she has created a brilliant new team in this series. I have really been enjoying getting to know them and their backstories as the books have progressed.
Five stars from me for this one, another superb book from this amazing storyteller. I have been really enjoying the series and can’t wait to see how the series progresses as this one does end of a bit of a cliff-hanger! This is the second book in the series and for me it also reads fine as a stand-alone but if you do get a chance to read the first one I would definitely recommend it!
Very highly recommended and can’t wait to see what she releases next!!
Killer Blow is the second in Comley’s DI Sara Ramsey series and there’s a hunter on the prowl. You could read this as a stand-alone but I’d recommend reading it as a series, why not treat yourself!
I really love this series, it’s shaping up to be epic! Comley never fails to deliver with her books, and the Sara Ramsey books are no exception. Fast paced, they’ll have to glued to the pages until the last one! Highly recommended five shiny stars!
This one is a real nail-biter that has you studying shady characters, searching for a kernel of decency, cheering for redemption, and fighting for for survival with the protagonists. As a reader, I was totally involved in the storyline.
This is a very good story, but again, I don’t like the writing. I bought the audiobooks of this series, that why I’m finishing them. There are sections of writing that are quite good and the, the dialogue.
Engaging and kept my interest. The description of the book is not quite right. The ending left me with questions and I'm not a fan of the continuing background threat to the main character.
So many 5 star ⭐️ ratings. I’m in the minority with only 2.
Police in Hereford must solve cases involving unknown men who kidnap children, throw acid on people’s faces, and cause the deaths of two people. The common link: the men ride mopeds.
This is a mystery/police procedural with little actual procedures involved, and except for viewing CCTV, this book could have been set in the 1970s. The detectives do old-fashioned legwork, interview people in the community, orchestrate TV appeals, field phone calls from the public, meet with MISPERS, etc. The detectives have all-hands meetings, but there are only two mentions of the murder board (whiteboard).
Although pathologist and SOCO teams are at the crime scenes, no forensic evidence or pathology findings are introduced. Plus, no one is investigating the acid(s) used.
In the first book DI Sara Ramsey’s cat was poisoned, and she received a threatening text. In this book, she finally tells her DCI about the cat and text, but not about recent threats. Someone vandalized her house, damaged her boyfriend’s car, sent a death threat attached to a stone, and painted “Slag! You’re Gonna Die!” on her door. DI Ramsey is being followed, so her DCI could have arranged surveillance, installation of alarms & security devices, and even SOCO at her house. DI Ramsey is either a copper who is TSTL or the author is setting up book #3.
I read this book as a stand-alone and all threads (not pertinent to the personal threats) are tied off.
Some good aspects, but these are the most poorly trained fictional police officers I’ve ever read. You don’t say, “Try not to worry,” or “Enjoy the rest of your evening,” to people who’ve had their spouses killed or their children snatched. And Sara Ramsey’s response to being violently stalked makes her a danger to herself and others. And coffee! Every page spends time on getting coffee. Please get this author a better editor. The underlying stories are good but the execution is painful.
This is the second book In the DI Sara Ramsey Series. I am a great fan of all Mel’s novels, they have you hooked from the very beginning. This is no exception it starts with a women being killed by a train on a level crossing and they are informed there should have been a 5 yr old little girl with her, as she was on her way home after picking her up from a dance class. But a person on a moped has abducted her. DI Sara Ramsey and her partner DS Carla Jameson soon find out there has been a number of child abductions over the last six months. They are racing against time to find these children as no bodies have ever been found. There are also a series of attacks on people by moped riders. DI Sara Ramsey thinks they could both be connected. Also there are things happening her in her private life that is very disturbing. I cannot wait for the third book in this series, it will have you unable to put this novel down as you want to know what happens next. Highly recommend this novel, brilliantly thought out plot. Gave me hours of enjoyment. Loved it.
Follow Sara and her team as they search for a number of children who have been abducted in recent months. At the same time Hereford is also in the midst of a crime spree involving moped riders, acid attacks and eventually murders. When another child is abducted, this time using moped to get away, Sara is convinced the cases are linked but how? When a link is found between some of the missing children the net finally begins to close on the gang responsible. Can they find the gang and recover all the children in time?
In addition to this stressful case, Sara is also dealing with new threats to her safety and vandalism to her home and Mark's car. She's unsure about her blossoming relationship and whether she is ready to move on and if she should be putting him at risk if someone is out to cause her harm.
Enjoy the fast paced story with interesting characters. M A Conley even manages to invoke empathy in the reader for some of the gang members, despite their despicable actions.
This is the second book in the DI Sara Ramsey series and, whilst it can be read as a stand-alone, I think you would gain an insight into the characters by reading the first book ‘No Right to Kill’.
The prologue piqued my interest from the very start and I was gripped. The team have their work cut out as a mother has been killed and her child appears to have been abducted. During their investigation, they discover unsolved cases of other missing children over a six month period. Are these disappearances linked? Their is a spate of moped crimes in their area which appear to be escalating - can DI Ramsey and her team get to the bottom of these crimes?
This is a fast-paced read, interspersed with Sara Ramsey’s personal life which is causing her stress. I love the back stories of the characters. I like this author’s style of writing and yet again I was left wanting more! Roll on book three in this series.
DI Sara Ramsey and her team investigate a murder and child kidnapping, only to find they may be connected to other child abductions going back 6 months. Another murder, followed by another abducted child Can Sara and her team catch those responsible before the children are gone forever? I really enjoyed Killer Blow. This was a very worthy continuation of DI Sara Ramsey's journey with Herefordshire Police. The character development was on the mark and I felt myself warming to Sara and Carla's friendly working relationship as much as to the other members of her team. I could even feel the tension build as the story continued towards its conclusion. I'm happy to recommend this series to any fan of crime fiction, and am looking forward to book 3, The Dead Can't Speak.
I loved the first book in the DI Sara Ramsey series, but Killer Blow topped it. I didn’t think that was possible, but it is. I seriously couldn’t put this book down and read it in one sitting. From the minute it smacked me with a nail-biting child abduction, I had no option but to remain glued to the pages, needing to know the fate of the little girl.
What drew me in further was the development of Sara’s character and the story continuation that began at the end of book one, No Right to Kill. The level of tension MA Comley created in this book was unbelievable.
If you love something that moves faster than a Ferrari, then this is your book. Fantastic read.
Another Amazing DI Sara Ramsey Crime Thriller from the Queen Of Crime - M A Comley. Sara is challenged with hunting down a ruthless gang of child abductors who will go to any lengths to achieve their aim. Half way through her investigation the gang change their tactics and appear to be targeting women for no apparent reason - or at least none that is obvious. There are more twists and turns in this complex crime than a ride on the Wild Mouse! It grips you from the very start and is one of those books you just cannot put down until the very end. Very Highly Recommend.
I love this new series with DI Sara Ramsey and her team. This author sure knows how to put a great book together. Such a heartbreaking story of a young girl being kidnapped from her mum and then having the horrific gut wrenching view of seeing her parent die in front of her eyes. We truly have some sadistic and murderous people in our world!! DI Sara Ramsey and her partner Carla are now left trying to piece together what happened with the little information they have to go on. I just love this author's books and they definitely get better with every new series.
This is a pacey thriller by a very successful writer so you will not be disappointed. I found the theme tricky, child abduction on the scale it occurred would bring the country almost to a halt in real life. The pace at times was rather breathless, a lot of dashing hither and thither, but I am sure that is what the huge loyal following of MA Comley look for. I am less sure that it is for me. I shall not give up however and will try a later story in the series to see how the characters have developed.
