After being stood up and having her pickup truck break down, Bailey found herself walking barefoot in a ball gown down a back road. And when her sexier-than-sin ex rides up on his steel horse Bon Jovi style to rescue her, she knows she has to accept his help even if it means breaking her heart all over again.
Josh Scott had no interest in being anyone’s hero.
After finding the only woman he’d ever loved stranded on the side of the road, Josh knew that he had to do the right thing. And when his headlight shone on long silky, blonde hair, huge doe eyes, and the most perfect set of lips ever created he knew his already shattered heart was in serious trouble.
To live in the present, Josh and Bailey have to face their past. If they do they just might have a future… and it all starts with just one night.
NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Melanie Shawn writes HEAs filled with sweet and sassy heroines, heroes who are cinnamon rolls in the streets alpho-holes in the sheets, casts of supportive *cough: meddling* friends and family who put the fun in funny, toe-curling combustible heat, and sugary sweet “aww” moments that will have your hearts and e-readers melting.
Melanie Shawn did a great job on this heartbreaking bittersweet second chance romance. I'm usually not a fan of second chance romances as I find the couple have unresolved issues that could be solved if they learned how to communicate. While Josh and Bailey have unresolved issues from their past they both needed to mature and face their own demons before they could salvage their love.
When we were first introduced to this couple, I knew they would have a difficult time to get to their much deserved HEA. I wasn't a fan of Bailey in the beginning of the book. She chose not to speak to her childhood best friend and former lover. She ran the other way and ignored him when they were in the same room. To say she was chilly towards Josh is an understatement. She seemed so distant and cold, not showing her emotions. This lasted 6 years until one day she couldn't ignore Josh any longer.
Josh was a true gentleman. He was sweet , caring and always going the extra mile for friends and family. Bailey and Josh had a intense love as young adults that went beyond puppy love. He was still in shock from his break up with Bailey when they were teenagers and still can't believe she can ignore him after all this time.
The pair reconnect early on in the book but struggled to take it to the next level. They seemed at an impasse until they faced their past, spoke about their hurts and realized how much they still love each other.
While reading the book I wasn't a fan of the emotional rollercoaster that I went through but it was worth it in the end. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough after the midway point, then I didn't want to see it end.
They definitely deserved their happily ever after. I'm hoping that this isn't the last time we hear from them.
I loved reading this book! It is a touching, sexy & emotional story. Bailey, had been on her way to a Hospital Gala, when her beloved truck broke down. No way to get help, she decides to walk. That's when Bailey heard a familiar roar of a motorcycle. Of all places to run into Josh. Josh hasn't spoken to Bailey in almost sixteen years. And he isn't about to start. Josh knows if he does, he'll be in trouble. I loved everything about this second chance romance. Can Bailey & Josh's love, be rekindled, after all the years? Can't wait to read Just One Kiss!! A MUST READ!!!
I’ve had the day to think and stew about how to write this review, and the first thing I want to say is tissues. I suggest lots and lots of tissues if you are an emotional reader. I may have just had an emotional day when I was reading it, but wow! I fell in love with Josh and Bailey. While Josh tried to resist, their chemistry was off the charts and it was only a matter of time before they were falling back in love.
There were a few twists and turns in the story that had me crying happy tears for multiple characters. I don’t want to give much away, but this story was beautifully written and will have you smiling through the tears that may fall.
I was nervous reading this one. I LOVE a second chance romance but I knew the secret she was keeping and that usually always ruins a story for me. But I should have know these two would pull it off and keep me loving both of them!! Well done ladies on another feel good, sexy, fun read.
Break out the tissues! I loved this story! Josh and Bailey's second chance was amazing to read. I felt their heartache and their limitless love for each other. The surprises were wonderful and added lots of layers to their family. Can't wait to read CiCi's story!
Just One Night by Melanie Shawn I love Melanie and Shawna’s writing. The stories they bring to life are amazing. This story takes us back to Harpers Crossing and we get to read about Bailey and Josh who were young lovers torn apart by some misunderstandings. The story starts out with these two grown up and Bailey being stranded on her way to a fundraiser by her grandfathers truck no starting. Josh happens by on his motorcycle and after a lot of self debate, picks her up. These two haven’t talked in years and it weighs on both of them. The steam picks up when communication finally starts between them at the fundraiser, the chemistry is undeniable to either of them and they give in. They both made mistakes when they were younger and finally come clean about them, paving the way to a HAE. There are some other great surprises in the book I won’t mention but let me just say they are the best kinds. I am so happy that these two get there happily ever after and they have great people to share it with. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
WOW!!! Oh WOW!! Josh and Bailey’s story in Just One Night was definitely lucky thirteen in the Crossroads series by the amazing duo of Melanie Shawn. Pediatric surgeon Bailey Rossum returned to Harper’s Crossing six years ago. Since being avoided and snubbed by Josh Scott, her high school love, there was no opportunity to talk to him and explain why she cut ties with him eighteen years ago. Now it was the night of big fund raiser for the hospital and Bailey found herself walking barefoot in a ball gown after being stood up and having her pickup truck break down. It was as if her life had turned into a bad country song. As luck would have it, coming to her rescue was Josh, looking sexier than ever, riding his motorcycle. Bailey knew she needed to accept his help, even if it could lead to him breaking her heart, once again. Josh knew the right thing to do was to give Bailey a lift, even if helping her would cause additional harm to his already shattered heart.
These two were amazing and perfect for each other; they fit together. They had off the charts chemistry and before these two can have the present and future, Josh and Bailey must face and confront their past. Before coming clean to Josh, Bailey’s secret unknowingly appears in Harper’s Crossing. After all these years, Josh and Bailey still love one another and hopefully they can get over the past and aim for a future together.
Melanie Shawn wrote a wonderfully emotional and moving story filled with sexual chemistry, fun dialogue, and endearing characters that is not to be missed. I highly recommend this book to other readers and am looking forward to reading the next story in the Crossroads series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I've loved the Crossroads series since the beginning and Just One Night was an awesome addition to this already great stable of stories.
Bailey Rossum has had a rough day. She's a pediatric surgeon and she has just lost a patient, so she jumped in her grandpa's truck to go for a drive to make herself feel better. Unfortunately, Buford, her truck decided he wasn't up to the task and broke down on the side of the road. Knowing she had to get to the hospital fundraiser, she sets out on foot to make the 5 mile walk to the country club.
While driving down the road, Josh Scott sees a woman walking on the side of the road, and he's certainly not the kind of man to not stop to help. When he realizes who the woman is, the only woman he's ever loved, Bailey, he knows he still needs to stop to help even though he's done everything he can to avoid her since she came back to town over 6 years ago. She was the one he thought he would spend forever with and she broke his heart years before. He still hasn't gotten over her.
When Josh realizes that Bailey needs an assist past the ride to the fundraiser, he steps up, although with reservations. As the two begin to connect, they still feel the pull from years ago even though decades have passed since they were together. Will they be able to reconnect and at the very least be friends? Or is the love they felt still alive and well.
This book was so much more than the synopsis I gave you above, but you need to let it unfold without my giving you anything further. I was so drawn in by these two characters and I was rooting for them the entire time. Their chemistry was off the charts and it was so clear that they belonged together, but lack of communication, secrets and miscommunication led them to where they are now. The story was incredibly realistic and I felt like I was living it right along with the characters.
Kudos to Melanie Shawn for another fantastic book in this series. I can't wait for the next one!
Bailey Rossum is a pediatric surgeon who gets stranded on the side of the road when her pick up breaks down after a difficult day losing a patient at work. To top it off, she is expected to be at a hospital fundraiser where she is supposed to dance for 24 hours with a date who ended up canceling on her last minute because his wife (who Bailey knew nothing about) was pregnant, to earn the fifty thousand dollars that was pledged to the hospital in her name. As she is walking down the side of the road in a ball gown carrying her shoes, Josh Scott comes riding by on his motorcycle. He can't leave her stranded on the side of the road because that isn't the type of guy he is, but he also isn't happy to help her out either.
Bailey and Josh haven't spoken in 16 years. Josh just wants to avoid her because seeing and speaking to her still makes him feel like part of himself is missing, while she is carrying a secret that no one has knowledge of for the past 18 years. Eventually, the secret must come out but will it make them closer or further apart?
This book had me in tears. The love and acceptance between all of the characters amazed me. You got to hear from old characters from Harper's Crossing as well as get to know some new ones. I absolutely loved this roller coaster of emotions.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Bailey and Josh's second chance at love is achingly sweet in the midst of all the drama and tension. These two have a long history and when we meet them it's been a long time with unresolved feelings and hurt. The underlying tension is well written and never fails to toe the line of being emotional and still understated enough to feel real and keep you locked in, instead of cringe in embarrassement. It's easy to either be too superficial or too much, but Melanie Shawn handles it expertly. The authors guide the reader through every layer of discovering who they were, what happened and who they are now, while giving us a current story not just wrapping it up but letting the story and the characters grow. I love how this is one of those second chance romances that actually managed to surprise me and delight me with the emotional depth and balance. I got to know both Bailey and Josh, I rooted for them, I cried for them and with them. In the end I loved their story and how it all panned out. It feels like a long time since the last time I read a book in this series and this was a great addition.
For me, this is one of the best books in this series I have read! Bailey and Josh’s Love Story is heartbreaking and heartwarming. I had so many tears in this book, sad and happy. Bailey and Josh were so young when they fell in love, and needed each other as their families did not give then the love and attention they needed. Bailey was super smart. I can’t even imagine graduating from high school at 16 and going to college. Bailey broke all contact off with Josh when she went away to college. Now that she is back home, a pediatric surgeon, and a workaholic she still hasn’t talked to Josh. The sad part is that there love is the love few people are blessed to have. Needless to say, they had a major miscommunication that has kept them apart for about 18 years. This book is so well written, I couldn’t put it down. I was living in the book and feeling all the emotions that were going on. This is a must read! I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s copy of this book.
Whenever I come across a book by these very talented authors, I know that it will touch my heart and will be a wonderful story. This one was certainly that and so much more. The story of Bailey Rossum and Josh Scott is heartbreaking. As teens they were best friends and fell in love . A night of passion resulted in a pregnancy. She left town to become a pediatric surgeon, and he owner of his uncle’s garage. She’s been back for over 5 years but they have barely had any contact until the night he rescues her. As the story progresses there will be times you will wish you could walk into the pages of the book to give them both a hug, at others, you will be moved to tears and lastly, a smile will come to your face. But the road is bumpy and full of surprises in this second chance romance. I so looking forward to what else they will have in store for us in the next book of the series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
So hard to put into words what an amazing story this was, it went to places that surprised me. It was a very emotional, funny, sexy and heart wrenching book. This is the story of Bailey and Josh. Bailey was such a strong character and in her own words self aware enough to realize when she was disconnecting, pretty powerful words that hit home. Josh was strong enough to know that he needed to stay away and he stayed away for 16 years, 16 years ! including the 6 years 2 months, 5 days and 7 hours that she had been back in town not that he was counting.
The dialogue between was Josh and Bailey was quick and a bit sarcastic but some of the ones that I enjoyed the most were with the supporting characters, the conversation between Becca and Bailey in the bathroom and the twilight references were so funny; and the ones between Brian and Josh were quite good. As with other books in the series the authors offer these small connections between stories and characters which is so fun.
But then, the climax of it all, when Bailey performs surgery, the discovery and the full circle of it all had me in tears (with my hand covering my mouth in shock, cause this surprised the heck out of me). It was a very emotional chapter. Family may not always be what you pictured it to be, but it can be exactly what you need.
I don't know how Melanie Shawn comes up with her ideas for her stories, but I absolutley love them. Bailey and Josh's story is heart breaking to read. I found myself tearing up up with their story. Bailey and Josh were childhood sweethearts and basically were there for each other when their families weren't. Bailey graduated early and left for college and broke it off with Josh. Bailey is back in town as a pediatric surgeon and Josh does everything in his power to avoid her. Bailey and Josh have history that ties them together and once they start talking again they realize their old feelings are still there. I absolutley loved this story and i felt bot Bailey and Josh's pain, heartache and their happiness for each other. What a great story.
Josh and Bailey were children when Bailey was pregnant and went off to college. Josh assumed she had aborted the child, but Bailey carried her baby to term and gave her daughter up for adoption. Then she finished college and became a paediatric surgeon. But she had to cut off all ties to Josh because she couldn’t face him after giving up her daughter. Josh eventually became a successful businessman running the local auto shop. Even though the two have been in the same town for 6 years, they’ve avoided each other so as to keep their wounds to themselves. Then one night (20 years after they separated), Josh finds Bailey walking barefoot along the road after her truck dies. And their relationship very slowly begins to be healed.
This is an emotional read with past guilt and hurts that take time, understanding, forgiveness and communication to heal. It’s a “keep tissues handy!” Kind of read, but one that makes you feel good after it’s over.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.
This book is about how a misunderstanding could change your live but in your heart the love stays the same!! When Josh and Bailey are in love at 15 years old, their live gets ripped apart! Years later when Bailey comes back to Harper Crossing it takes over 6 years for this couple to be forced to speak and when things come out it changes everything!!! The love that was just below the surface comes sailing out but can this couple over come all their problems!! Don't hesitate to one click this fabulous love story!! You will need tissue to get through it but it is worth it!!
Well Melanie Shawn has done it again. I think this might just be my favorite book in this series. Josh and Bailey are being given a second chance at love. I found their story to be so sad but so happy at the same time. I just love second chance romance books. This second chance romance also has secrets that have to be overcome and forgiveness that has to be given out. Bailey and Josh’s journey back to each other will not be easy but let me tell you it makes for one heck of a read. I really enjoyed this story and all the twists and turns it took. I cannot wait to see what Melanie Shawn is going to come up with next. . I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a way to rekindle a romance! Josh & Bailey had a high school romance until she ended up pregnant. While Josh was thinking he’d drop out of school to take care of her, Bailey didn’t want to derail her one chance to make something of herself. A terrible breakup & years of silence between them are broken when Josh stops to help Bailey after her truck breaks down & leaves her stranded right before the big fundraiser.
I loved this story! The fairytale romance, surprise baby, break up & still finding their way back to each other years later!! The characters tug on your heart! Josh has been heartbroken all these years but he’s still hung up on her. Bailey’s had heartbreak after heartbreak even as her professional career has soared. Bailey’s secret threw a wrench in the reunion but I really liked the way they both handled it & talked it out. Another great emotional story!
Josh and Bailey's story was another great one in the series. When you read this book you will need the lots of Kleenex as you will be crying both happy and sad tears at times. Josh and Bailey were high school sweethearts but Bailey left for college and told Josh to move on. Little did anybody know she had a big secret she carried with her to college. Fast forward a few years and she is stranded on the side of the road and the one person to come a long and rescue her is Josh. Even though Bailey told Josh to move on neither one ever did. Will they get their chance at a second romance?
I’ve really enjoyed all the books in The Crossroad’s series by Melanie Shawn but this has definitely become one of my favorites. So many things happening in this book. Bailey and Josh’s story was great. I liked that they all got the closure on the past that was needed (so many hurt feelings and misunderstandings resolved) and so much to look forward to in the future. There was a line in the book I totally fell in love with, ‘He’d ridden up on a steel horse – Bon Jovi “Wanted Dead or Alive” style – and swooped her up and got her to the ball on time.’ Melanie Shawn does an amazing job putting various pop culture references into their books, I always look forward to seeing what they come up with next. So excited for the next two books in this series!
Such a great book. Josh and Bailey has such a wonderful thing going them and then they didn't. Life circumstances got in the way as happens sometimes and they didn't talk for a really long time. She pursued her career as a doctor and he took over his uncle's auto shop. When Bailey came back into town he didn't speak for six years they didn't acknowledge each other didn't talk to each other he just ignored each other. And then also that happens in life things change this is a book of love and sorrow and is overwhelmingly amazing a must-read.
Josh and Bailey fell in love in high school and thought they’d be together forever. Unfortunately, real life and some misunderstandings get in the way. Fast forward a few year - They are both back in Harper’s Crossing, trying to avoid each other so they don’t have to face the past. Josh has to rescue Bailey and then some wonderful plot twists follow. I loved this book and this couple! My favorite in the series so far and one of my favorites by Melanie Shawn. I couldn’t put it down until I finished!
This book hit all my buttons. It was sweet, emotional and the chemistry between Josh and Bailey was off the charts. Josh and Bailey have a history. They were first loves when they were children but decisions and misunderstandings pulled them apart. Fast forward 18 years, and Bailey is stranded on a dark country road and starts walking back to town when her ex Josh comes upon her and being the man he is he won’t leave her to walk back into town. A night dancing together after years of not speaking opens the doors to a future neither of them thought would be possible. Amazing emotional story absolutely loved it.
I loved Josh and Bailey's story. This is a year jerking, second chance novel. Bailey has a secret, which has her avoiding her ex Josh. She can't risk him finding out the truth. So when she breaks down, the last person she needs help from is him. But when she finds herself in a bit of a pickle and Josh offers to help, she finds she can't say no to him. Bailey is the only girl that Josh has ever loved, even after she walked away from him 19 years ago. so when he sees her at the side of the road, he can't just leave her there, but it doesn't mean he has to speak to her. Their story is as Heartbreaking, as it is beautiful and will have you in tears.
Just couldn’t resist starting this book and as usual couldn’t stop till the end. Josh and Bailey sure had a hard road to travel. Not wanting to put out any spoilers I will say that this story was full of good feels and left me with a lot of love in my heart.❤️❤️ received this for an honest review.
Just One Night by Melanie Shawn is the thirteenth book in the Crossroads series. It follows Josh Scott and Bailey Rossum through their journey of rediscovery.
Bailey Rossum has the career she has always wanted, she's one of the best, but what she doesn't have is what she has been missing for almost two decades.
Josh Scott has spent a lot of time and energy ignoring and avoiding his past and thus avoiding Bailey until one night when he can't.
Can Josh and Bailey find common ground? What happens when Bailey's biggest secret is unveiled? The feels are real with this story! I loved Josh and Bailey!
Bailey and Josh were the perfect couple, but she pushed him away years ago and he accepted her rejection. Josh accepted it so thoroughly, he refused to even speak with Bailey. Even years later, Bailey is still afraid to tell Josh the truth. A cute, full circle read. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Josh and Bailey get a second chance to get it right when Buford breaks down and leaves Bailey barefoot in an evening gown. This books has it all, I giggled, I cried. Theres even an eighteen years old secret that pays a visit. This book is fast paced and was a joy to read.
