With over 20 years' experience in the computer industry, Kevin Wilson has made a career out of technology and showing others how to use it. After earning a master's degree in computer science, software engineering, and multimedia systems, Kevin has held various positions in the IT industry including graphic & web design, programming, building & managing corporate networks, and IT support.

He serves as senior writer and director at Elluminet Press Ltd, he periodically teaches computer science at college, and works as an IT trainer in England while researching for his PhD. His books have become a valuable resource among the students in England, South Africa, Canada, and in the United States.

Kevin's motto is clear: "If you can't explain something simply, then you haven't understood it well enough." To that end, he has created the Exploring Tech Computing series, in which he breaks down complex technological subjects into smaller, easy-to-follow steps that students and ordinary computer users can put into practice.

The pain and suffering under the ridiculousness of assorted Microsoft Windows systems has lasted for, and continues, for years. Endless hours and days (and sometimes weeks) of researching cryptic error codes, updates, upgrades, Black & Blue screens have been documented in reams of paper printouts and countless numbers of diskettes, disks, tapes, zip drives, hard drives, CDs, DVDs, USB drives and SSD drives. All this in the hope that Windows will finally be a reliable and dependable consumer product. It's never happened! (...and probably never will.) Sometime in 2017, an 1809 update kidnapped the irreplaceable documents folder. Dios mio!
Roughly, ten years ago a legacy laptop was converted into a dual boot system running XP and Ubuntu Linux to preserve legacy programs and explore Windows alternatives. It was a grand success in that the Linux system has never once failed. It just was too hard to believe and the move away from Windows was not taken.
The Essential Chromebook seems to be the most feasible chance to get away from those awful Windows laptops and desktop. Apple isn't an acceptable for 2 reasons 1) the system is so locked down by the company it seem more like lend lease than buy and own 2) the premium price charged seems like an immorality. For the months with a Chromebook, there has been nothing but accomplished work and thus far reliably safe document storage. No repairs no fixes needed. It is essentially an app store, a browser, cloud storage and Web based office suite.
This eBook is recommended as a refresher on Chrome browser and Play store settings.
