Buck DeHaas has strong opinions about the weird, three-eyed aliens that made first contact with Earth. Aliens that “came in peace and friendship”, they told everyone.
A few years before, a much different kind of alien made contact with twelve year old Buck DeHaas. A blue-skinned, orange-eyed, tentacles-sprouting-from-the-head kind of alien. These aliens came in secret. Their intentions had no relation to “peace and friendship”. Not at all.
Young Buck managed to escape those jerks. They haven’t been seen since. But he hasn’t forgotten what they did. He’s a man who never lets go of a grudge.
Now Buck’s on a one man holy war to get all the aliens off Earth.
Even better, make them all dead.
When the beat-up alien ship lands at super secret military base Area 53 in New Mexico, Buck smells opportunity.
He soon finds out hate might not be enough.
Getting what he wants might be the last thing he needs.
To save his fellow humans he must make a sacrifice. Of something more precious to him than even his life.
The second twisting adventure in the Star Ascension series.
Really, he considers it a fantastic day when he finds a ripe avocado at the supermarket.
Mmmm…guacamole.
In a previous career, Jeremy Michelson worked at a small town weekly newspaper. It was his privilege to report on the odd, the unusual, and the occasionally terrifying aspects of life in a rural area.
These days Jeremy lives in a much larger city in the Pacific Northwest. In his spare time he enjoys hiking (the Pacific Northwest has an abundance of beautiful places to hike) and taking photos of nature.
Waterfalls, snowcapped mountains, and trees feature prominently in his photos. Flowers, birds, and criminally adorable chipmunks are also favorite subjects.
Jeremy is the author of the Star Ascension science fiction series, a star spanning tale of humankind’s very bumpy journey from Earth to becoming members of a galactic community of alien races.
He also writes the New Bedlam / Unseen World adventures. An contemporary fantasy collection of novels and stories about a familiar world changed by cataclysm, bordered by a hidden world filled with powerful and unsettling creatures.
Well…he writes these tales when one of the family’s cats aren’t taking a nap on his keyboard. Come on, cat, I got words to wr–

This story wasn’t as good as the first for me, mostly because of the new main character. He’s more stubborn and angry, resulting in most of the story not changing or growing, in any sense of the word. He doesn’t get any powers or change his mind until the last chapter. So it ended up being repetitive in the long middle. I may read the next in the series because it’s supposed to switch focus back to the main characters of the first book.
Buck DeHaas had been kidnapped in Montana by the Don aliens when he was 12, but escaped. Somehow. Turns out they just wanted information about earth language. And they left him with "markers" or nanites.
He now is a Marine, and has met up with Chris and Liz who have alien technology.
this fits into the very entertaining category. At the end it was pretty obvious what would happen however it was real far from obvious HOW it would happen. I liked this because you got to see what was going on in the characters heads and how they came about to the decision that they made. fun, intriguing too!!
The whole book boils down to the morality lessons from Mamma. Great things for us all to remember whether on the street, internet, board room, back room, and with friends, family, colleagues, public, or politicians.
