Hansel and Gretel’s witch was actually on their side...Annika’s job is to create a cake to match the candy-colored rooftops, nightly firework shows, and daily parades ending in unexpected executions for the mad king’s ball, but her true mission is to sneak a thirteen-year-old assassin into the palace inside her cake using her gift of illusions.
Hansel’s job is to protect his little sister, Gretel, once she assassinates King Levin and ends the destruction in Candestrachen, using his power over light to rescue the young girl from the chaos her influence over life and death will create.
When the entire forest reconstructs itself under Gretel’s command while trying to save herself from a king’s guard, Hansel and Annika must put their feelings aside and ensure their plan holds true—even if it means one of them has to sacrifice themselves to protect the mission.
Her illusions were meant to save her….but not everyone will survive the assassination attempt.Perfect for fans of A.G. Howard's Splintered, Veronica Roth's Divergent, and Marissa Meyer's Cinder.

You think you know the story of Hansel of Gretel, but think again! Hansel and Gretel are not just two lost little children. And the witch is certainly not trying to bake them, although one of them does end up inside a cake, haha! Hansel, Gretel, and the witch are all working together to save the sugary, candy coated kingdom from an evil king.
This was a great read! And if it wasn't for that king, I would love to visit Candestrachen!
Sugarcoated by K.M Robinson is a fun 5 star page turner retelling of what really went down in Hansel and Gretel’s story. What if Hansel and Gretel’s witch was really on their side? We follow our story from the eyes of Annika as we watch her and Hansel and Gretel plan their assassination attempt on the mad king. From all the lovable characters and magical world building from K.M Robinson you will definitely fall for this sweet book. This book is perfect for anyone that has a sweet tooth for retellings.
What if the storybooks got it all wrong and Hansel & Gretel's witch was actually NOT evil? This novella dives into the life of the siblings and the witch who has an affinity for sweets is actually a close friend as they plan to rise up against the Mad King.
It has scenes with delicious food which will have you craving some sweets, clever characters, some swoon, and also a heartbreaking ending.
If you're looking for a unique retelling, or love novellas then this is definitely a must for your reading list.
I have really enjoyed the author’s work in the past, so was quite expectant. However, there were quite a few disappointments for me with this book. The price was just over £2, a gift from my teen for Christmas, but at less than 2 hours to read, very over priced for an ebook. Also, due to it being a short story, there was not much time to develop characters, so they were less in depth than I would have liked. As it was a short story, there were quite a few passages where it was unclear what was actually written about, there was little background given on the towns, king , history, etc so that at times the reader is left wondering what the heck is the story trying to say? And, an unhappy ending, well, I hate those. Reading is an escape for so many people that, while reality has plenty of unhappy endings, I don’t think fiction should!

What an incredible, beautiful, magical, and delicious world KM Robinson has created for us with Sugarcoated!
Everything was so easy to picture in my mind as I read—and I love when a story comes to life as I flip through the pages. It’s very easy to fall in love with her band of rebels as they try to overthrow the tyrant king. If you’re ready for a candy-filled adventure filled with heroics, love, friendship, and sacrifice, Sugarcoated is for you.
I really enjoyed the idea behind this, and it was a whimsical (and kind of creepy) world I had a ton of fun in! There were places it could have been fleshed out a bit more, but it is a novella, so length is a limitation. Overall, I'm really glad I read this!
Dear K.M. Robinson, Please please please please take this novella and give me a full length novel! I need to know more! I need to be able to fully immerse myself in this universe! The second you announce a full length version I will preorder it. I promise. Give it to me please!
To all others, This book has captured my thoughts. I have read 10 books since finishing this novella and yet find my thoughts returning to this world over and over again. This book has a definite ending and yet I find myself thinking about the side characters we meet. The King in this! What made him what he is? I can't say good enough things about this book to draw you out of a book slump and get your creative fanfic-y type juices flowing! Do yourself a favor, read this.
