Sara Dobie Bauer somehow survived her party-hard college years at Ohio University to earn a creative writing degree. She lives with her precious Pit Bull in Northeast Ohio, although she’d really like to live in a Tim Burton film.
If you are a reader like me who’s obsessed with vampires and haven’t read this trilogy, my friend, I envy you very VERY much. 😁 Because unlike me, you now have the luxury to binge through all 3 books in this awesome trilogy and I had to impatiently wait between them. So yea, I envy you. 😏 That being said, I loved this final installment for this very enthralling and refreshing trilogy soooooo much. It was everything I hoped it would be. 💜
You would have thought escaping death so that they could be together eternally would be the biggest obstacle to overcome between Andrew and Edmund. Turns out .. it’s not. After a long journey and many failed attempts to find an Elder, Andrew and Edmund has finally found an Elder to turn Edmund so that he could escape death from this horrible infection. But what they both didn’t know is that they unknowingly invited a bigger evil that’s even worse than death. 😱 Meanwhile, after becoming a newly turned vampire, Edmund now can’t run away from his past anymore. It’s time to return to his homeland, England, and face the demons of his past. And Edmund is fast losing his battle with this awful inner demons and Andrew doesn’t know what to do to help his eternally beloved. 😭 Escaping death seemed like the ultimate challenge for these two lovers but they soon realized living really is the ultimate challenge of life. And now they have to battle phantom demons and real ones, and a crazy enemy to get their happily ever after.
I’ll admit, I thought it was kinda slow in the first chapters. I was so wrung out from the worry at the end of second book so I feel relieved and ecstatic after Edmund escaped death. Then it was a bit of a slow burn ... until it wasn’t. Never should have doubted Sara Dobie Bauer because mannnnnnn .. I didn’t see that twist coming. It was scary, exciting and enthralling at the same time. And I loved the bromance between Felipe and Edmund too. And the sex? It’s as always, sizzling and smoking hot! 🔥🔥🔥 And of course, as she promised, we got an epic HEA and amazing epilogue in the end. I’m still smiling from that dreamy epilogue. 😍 Loooooooooooooved it so much! 💜 Such an awesome trilogy. I think this would satisfy any paranormal enthusiasts who loves the creatures of the night. 😉

This is the final book in this trilogy and it’s a good one.
Andrew, Edmund and crew find the Elder. Edmund is now immortal and the journey to England continues. Edmund settles well into life as a vampire better than he does with life back in London. He’s not the pretty young man who left the country so many years ago. He’s now a grown man happy in his own skin.
A lot happens in this book and it’s so much more than it’s 127 pages would suggest.
I’ve really enjoyed this trilogy. I say trilogy but it’s more like one book (about 320 pages in total) broken down into 3 parts.
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by NetGalley.
That was one glorious third and final installment of this series!! It was exhausting because of the events. It was delicious because of the events and it was also emotional because of it.
Dear dear Edmund, what lies underneath the sweet eyes and dear smiles... something disproportionately, something huge.
The enormity and influence of Edmund given by the Elder is one of a kind. Some abilities are just too much!
Between the heavy content I loved the light delicious popping in humor... “I’ve become a button expert over the years, though” I loved all the endearing fond nicknames!
Edmund and Andrew together become one. It was a bit of a rollercoaster at times, I was anxious if they would survive.
I was thrilled about the opportunity to meet this series!! Written in an amazing captivating and compelling way. Easy to visualize all the stunning fascinating scenery. Edmund and Andrew, Michelle and Felipe and all the secondary characters were all stunning put down. My heart goes out to Flynn <3 And what I loved was what rises above all the impressive events... Love with a capital <3 Even vampires can’t survive without!!
If you love a story with some bloody delicious human and vampires, who can fuck each other’s brains out and also have to survive the deadly centuries... you have to read this!
Escaping Mortality is the final episode in Sara Dobie Bauer’s captivating “The Escape Trilogy”. This series is a must for fans of vampire romances, but it’s also a beautifully written, exciting story line. One I’m recommending to everyone!
For me, the best part of this whole thing has been discovering the writing of Sara Dobie Bauer. Her lyrical prose paints such appealing scenes, and even the simplest phrases are vivid and descriptive. It’s easy to picture Andrew’s tropical island, the lush debauchery of historic New Orleans, and the spectacular images of their treacherous sea voyage.
Reflecting back on Andrew and Edmund’s experiences, I can really appreciate everything Ms. Bauer is doing with this trilogy. Of course, we’re treated to thrilling adventures, and all the intimacies this couple shares, but Ms. Bauer weaves messages about good and evil, sin and atonement, and the grace of forgiveness into the story as well.
Past misdeeds haunt everyone throughout this series. Even a thousand-year-old vampire can’t escape his comeuppance. When Andrew and Edmund face their past transgressions and do their best to make it right, they discover it’s not too late to find happiness. They each find a peaceful way to live and embraces life’s gifts. I’m going to picture them playing and loving each other through whatever time will bring, and I can’t think of a better conclusion to their story.
Since Escaping Mortality is the end of this amazing trilogy, I won’t say much. Other than, start with the first book, Escaping Exile, and you’ll see why I love it!
This book is so far away from what Book 1 was that I can't believe it's part of the same series. Like with Book 2, Andrew's role is restricted to him getting jealous whenever somebody else comes close to Edmund. Michelle and Felipe continue being pointless characters who add nothing to the narrative, except Felipe is now also being used as comedic relief (!) in some scenes. And Edmund's status as a Gary Stu continues to achieve new heights. The plot does move a bit faster than it did in Book 2 but again, there's way too much filler material and way too many sex scenes. But the reason I DNF'd was because of the way the author is portraying Edmund, Michelle and Felipe, which annoyed me to the point where I don't want to continue.
The only thing I liked was that the author continued emphasizing Edmund's love for science and learning by having him . It was great that so much had changed for Edmund but he still had his scientific curiosity and was still committed to advancing his own knowledge and the knowledge of the world. But everything else sucked.
I can't believe this series went from portraying Michelle as being the intimidating leader of a vampire coven who had exiled Andrew to a bored rich lady who follows Edmund on his journey to see his sick mother in England just because she apparently has nothing else to do. Never mind that she's the leader of a coven and presumably has responsibilities. No, she's just interested in following around Mr. Gary Stu even though Edmund's situation with his mom has nothing to do with her.
When they're in England, Michelle
That last point was yet another example of the author refusing to get off the Edmund (aka Mr. Gary Stu) train. It's now become absurd. His Gary Stu behavior was ridiculous in Book 2, but now it's reached YA levels. Everybody--and I mean EVERYBODY--adores Edmund and wants to be around him 24/7. Why?? The guy is nice and charming, sure. But most of these guys are vampires! They've met hundreds of Edmunds in their long lives so why are they all acting obsessed with him? And why did Michelle (the coven leader), Felipe (her second in command) and Brien (the resurrected Elder) all decide to follow Edmund to visit his sick mother in England?? Oh, and of course - after Edmund becomes a vampire, it turns out that Brien had given him . Because that's what Edmund really needed right? To be even more of a special, special snowflake than he already was. It was ridiculous.
As for Felipe - what the author did with this guy is pure character assassination. If characters could sue, I know he'd sue this author for what was done to him. In Book 1, he's portrayed as being a cruel, remorseless villain, somebody who treats humans like toys to be played with, destroyed or discarded as he feels like it. There's a flashback where Felipe is shown . So that's who Felipe was and I was very excited because you don't get characters like that in MM romance very often.
Then in Book 2, the guy is used by the author to demonstrate Mr. Gary Stu's amazingness when Edmund physically retaliates against Felipe groping him. I wasn't pleased with that because it's not remotely realistic that Edmund could overpower an old vampire like Felipe, but I could live with it. Felipe did nothing for the rest of the book.
Then Book 3 happens and oh, boy. Felipe is unrecognizable from what he was portrayed as in Book 1. Things start with
I mean....WTF is this series?!? Why the hell did it turn into a rom-com?!? Why did Felipe go from being a cruel, abusive slave owner to acting like a child and being used for slapstick comedy scenes? I think this is the worst character assassination I've ever seen and that's so upsetting because Felipe was awesome in Book 1.
Overall, I don't get what the author meant to do with this series. Everything that was set up in Book 1 was completely changed in the following installments. I don't understand how somebody can write something as intense and dark as the first book and then decide to take their foot off the gas and write a half-assed, boring vampire rom-com thing for the rest of the series. What a waste.
Escaping Mortality finishes up Sara Dobie Bauer’s Escape Trilogy and I have really enjoyed this series. There has been a nice progression over the series between Andrew and Edmund, from the two men on a deserted island driven largely by their lust for one another, to men who have become true lovers and partners. There is a sweetness to their interaction, even as these are hard, dangerous men. We can really feel the love they have and the strong bond between them, each determined to do whatever it takes to protect the man he loves. One thing I find particularly interesting about this series is the way each book has a different setting, as the men go from a deserted island full of wild cannibals, to the more urbane, yet still fairly debauched New Orleans, and ultimately to the rigid high society of England. I have enjoyed seeing these men adapt to their different environments, as well as how their underlying natures have remained constant, even as they grow. In this case, Edmund’s wildness as a new vampire contrasts nicely with the formal world of being Duke, and I liked that juxtaposition and seeing how it plays out.
Wooo. What and ending to this series. Not at all what I was expecting and I like it. If you've kept up, Edmund and Andrew found the elder at the end of book 2. If you haven't kept up. Stop and go read in order. The Elder agreed to change Edmund, but with a few stipulations of his own. Little did they know at the time, it was all going to be a trick. Andrew was upset because he wanted to be the one with Edmund's soul joined with him, but the Elder would change Edmund over without being the one to kill him as well. So Edmund agreed. And Andrew watched with mixed emotions. When all was said and done, he was so happy to have his beloved back, he didn't care about anything else. But as time goes on, Edmund is changing a bit. He is more prone to anger and he was quick tempered already. Being home with his ailing mother wasn't helping. Being in his town was helping and the woman who was caring for his mother was really making it worse. But eventually it all comes out why. Secrets are revealed, murders happen, and the Elder makes it known why he's still hanging on. But Edmund can't abide by what the Elder wants and now it's a matter of who will kill who first. If the Elder wins, he will kill everyone along with Edmund. And Edmund will do everything he can to protect all he loves. Man, this book is a mindf#@k. In a good way though. It's very good. Everything seems to be going well as Edmund is finally healthy again and with his beloved. But with the undertones of the Elder, everything seems off. But it's not so much that it's hugely noticeable. It's the little things that come out over time. And for Edmund, I feel horrified. He's the one enduring the Elder and everything from his old home. He's trying to show that people can change, but some don't want to forget the young man who seduced everyone. The one who broke marriages and more. All Edmund wants is to live with his beloved and be happy now. But things are changing him and he's not liking it. Andrew, himself, don't know what to do. Edmund is purposely bringing out his dark side and pushing him too far. It almost went beyond repair one night. Thankfully, Edmund fixed that. But whatever is feeding Edmund's darkness is feeding him as well and both of them are just lost at points. It's a hell of an ending. I'm sad to see some of the things that happened. It was heartbreaking, but happy to see how others turned out. Things that needed to be fixed were fixed and things moved forward. It's been a great series.
I was given this book by the author and this is my honest opinion. I enjoyed this book, which is the last of following Edmund and Andrew from the very first book on the island to now where they've established their relationship whilst battling foes. This is a great little trilogy of novellas, with great characters which made you really connect to them so you felt empathy for them. I liked the historical aspect and all the action that takes place. A very good ending to a great book and story
This was brilliant. The perfect ending to the trilogy. A dark historical vampire tale but with a beautiful love story. The writing is rich and vibrant. The relationship between Edmund and Andrew is beautifully written but never forgets the dangerous nature of the creatures they are. And the epilogue is perfect.
So so good. Sara Dobie Bauer has finished this series strong and as much as I hate to see it end, it was totally worth it.
This final book starts where the second book ended, with Edmund finding his elder and being half dead in the ocean. Nothing goes according to plan when Andrew is told he can't be the one to kill Edmund. Somehow, the elder has revived Edmund into immortality with a special ability, but it's one that is reliant on being in contact with him.
As they journey to London to get in touch with Edmund's dying mother, more of his abilities are revealed, as well as the insidious plan the elder has for Edmund.
I have fallen in love with Andrew and Edmund during this series. The books are written in such a way that describes every moment and every action so well without being overly wordy. I love Sara Dobie Bauer's writing style and how she pulls me in so willingly to the characters. And Andrew and Edmund's love affair is so deep and real that I feel part of it.
"He's no longer only my miracle but the world's, as well. Then there's me. I find contentment in simply loving him."
I have often thought of Andrew and Edmund and their past lives being so vastly different than the life they've made together and I feel spoiled to have had the opportunity to get to know them so well. I'll miss reading of their adventures, but with an HEA epilogue I can't really complain.
Do yourself a favor and read this series. It's vampire love at its finest.

This book was less problematic than the first two (though not entirely unproblematic), but the author failed to add anything interesting so it was just as boring.

REVIEW: 3.75 stars—ESCAPING MORTALITY is the third instalment in Sara Dobie Bauer’s historical, adult ESCAPE paranormal, MM, erotic romance trilogy focusing on formerly exiled vampire Andrew, and twenty-eight year old, British naturalist Edmund. ESCAPING MORTALITY should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately following the events of book two Escaping Solitude.
NOTE: ESCAPING MORTALITY contains M/M sexual situations that may not be suitable for all readers. If you have not read the previous instalments there may be some spoilers in my review.
Told from first person point of view (Andrew) ESCAPING MORTALITY focuses on the new relationship between Andrew and Edmund now that Edmund is an immortal like his beloved. Having searched for an elder to affect the change, Edmund is now haunted by the man who is his maker. As Edmund, Andrew and their crew of intrepid friends voyage towards England fearing their arrival may be too late, Edmund’s anxiety begins to ratchet upwards as sins from the past are surely to affect his welcome home. What ensues is the continuing relationship between Andrew and Edmund; the fall-out of Edmund’s return to England; and Edmund’s battle to break free of the elder vampire who demands more than Edmund is willing to give.
ESCAPING MORTALITY is a story of family, discrimination, betrayal and love. Edmund’s life as a sailor allowed him the freedom to escape the liabilities back home but upon his return, it is made very clear, that his previous actions, are still not acceptable. The slow building premise is engaging and emotional; the romance is erotic and passionate; the characters are colourful and charismatic. Andrew and Edmund are destined to spend eternity together, an eternity made official by the passage of time...and contemporary law.
I was gifted my copy of this book, direct from the author, that I write a review was not required. But since I read and reviewed the other two parts, it's only fitting I review this one, too, don't you think??
This is the third and final book in the Escape trilogy and you rally MUST read the other two books first. You need to know how Edmund and Andrew found themselves in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, looking for an Elder!
Only Andrew has a say in these books, and THIS one, more than the other two, I NEEDED Edmund I really did! Some things happen here, that made me want to hear what he had to say, so bloody bad and he doesn't. I KNEW that he probably would not have a say, but a girl can hope, right?
Edmund and Andrew and their friends are on a boat to England and to find the Elder. Once the Elder has located and Edmund turned, they continue on to visit Edmund's sick mother. The "friend" looking after her is vile and dealing with her and the gifts the Elder has bestowed upon him, pushes Edmund to his limits. Then WHY the Elder gave Edmund these gifts becomes clear and Edmund has a choice: Andrew or the Elder.
I found this one a little less sexy than the others, but a whole lot more bloody! The way Edmund deals with the friend was scary, but needed I think. The Elder? Well he choose his path, once it became clear that there is, and there will only ever be, ONE person for Edmund.
I did not see what the "friend" was up to, looking after Edmund's mother, nor did I see what the Elder had planned fro Edmund, so it was nice to be surprised by those things.
I LOVED the epilogue! Seriously well played with that one!
I have enjoyed these three short bursts of Andrew and Edmund, but I really think had Edmund been given a voice too, these would have been all 5 star reads.
Thank you, for letting me read your books, Ms Dobie Bauer!
And the finale of the Escape Trilogy lived up to all expectations! Andrew and Edmund found the Elder just in time to save Edmund’s life. But…and it’s a very big but…the Elder seems to have a connection to Edmund that Andrew doesn’t share. And it’s something that might make or break his relationship with Andrew. Oh no…just when I thought it was safe and my favorite vampire couple was going to be able to live happily ever after—literally—it appeared something was going to stop that from happening.
But I digress. In this installment, Andrew, Edmund, and yes, the Elder, Michelle, and Felipe all continue their sea voyage to England after Edmund’s life is saved by the Elder converting him to a vampire. But when they arrive at Edmund’s mother’s estate, they find that she’s more than physically ill—her mental faculties are failing as well. The adventure in this story lies in finding out what is going on with Edmund’s mother at the same time Andrew is learning just exactly what Brien, the Elder, plans for Edmund, because it’s very evident that Edmund has changed—and not just to a vampire. As the blurb states, Andrew has to battle for his heart and his soul.
No spoilers here. All I can say is that those who read this trilogy will love the complexity churned up by Sara Dobie Bauer’s imagination. And as much as I’d like to say this can be read as a standalone, it really should be read after the first two. None are very long so they are easy to devour. I highly recommend this book, and this series, to those who enjoy MM romance with a bit of vampire thrown in.
Note: I work for this publisher but I have reviewed this as I would any other I read for blog review--honestly and fairly.

Escaping Mortality is the final book in the Escape Trilogy. Andrew and Edmund’s search for an Elder was successful and Edmund is now a vampire. However the Elder shared more than just his immortality with Edmund and the ancient vampire insists on accompanying his new creation, much to Andrew’s displeasure. They journey to England to visit Edmund’s sick mother and the visit forces Edmund to confront the past that he tried to desperately to leave behind. Struggling with his past and new powers that the Elder gifted him with, Edmund’s aggressive behaviour becomes a constant concern for Andrew and he fears that his desire to keep Edmund with him forever may be what drives them apart.
I was really excited to read the conclusion to the trilogy and it did not disappoint. I loved the twist of the Elder sharing his powers with Edmund and as a result becoming infatuated with him. Andrew’s desire to protect his lover and defend his claim to him almost backfired on him and you could really feel how powerless he felt in the presence of the Elder. Yet he was still determined to save Edmund with little thought for his own safety.
This conclusion to the series really shows just how much Andrew, Edmund and their relationship has developed since the beginning. As well as forming a passionate and loving relationship with each other they have both overcome their inner demons and are better as a result of it. I was sad when I reached the end but the finale is beautiful and completes their story perfectly. I highly recommend the Escape Trilogy to vampire/male-male romance fans.
I've loved this trilogy made up of novellas. Escaping Mortality was about 127 pages, but it wasn't lacking at all. Although these short stories could have been contained in one volume, each one adds another layer to their relationship. Escaping Exile is the beginning for Andrew and Edmund. Escaping Solitude is their journey together toward an uncertain future and Escaping Mortality is the perfect ending (or continuation) of that journey. Each one, except for Escaping Mortality, ends in a bit of a cliff hanger, which adds to the suspense.
There's a price to pay for Edmund's immortality and although that's kind of expected, it turns out to be much more than they bargained for. Neither Edmund or Andrew are angels by any stretch of the imagination, but their love for each other has kept most of their demons at bay. Since Edmund was turned, there's a force that's bringing out the worst in both of them and the Elder seems to know more than he's willing to share. Unfortunately, the mysterious Elder isn't the only danger the vampires and those they love have to worry about once they reach Edmund's home. Needless to say, there was more than enough to keep the pages turning.
It's always sad to say goodbye to characters that you've grown to like so much when a series ends, but the epilogue in Escaping Mortality more than made up for it. Enjoy!
I received Escaping Mortality in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Edmund and Andrew have found one… yes, they finally find an Elder. Both men are surprised when Brien, the Elder, asks for something in return for turning Edmund. Something promised to Andrew.
“You can have anything,” Edmund says. Brien leans forward and sniffs, seeking Edmund’s scent. “I want to kill you.”
But that wasn’t all that Brien had in mind and thus starts the next adventure. Edmund is changing, things are happening, he’s not sure what to do and only Brien has the answers.
“He wants something.” “You.” “No.” He shakes his head. “It’s more than that. He’s up to something.”
When finally reaching land and seeing his ill mother, Edmund discovers just what Brien wants and must decide between what the Elder offers or Andrew. Only, what Brien offers is something men want, maybe even Edmund with his curious, need to know the answers type of mind. Will this be the last of Edmund and Andrew or will Brien’s offer be too much to say no to?
What a beautiful ending. By ending, I mean it starts when Brien reveals all and what unravels afterwards. Sara Dobie Bauer does an amazing job with pulling me into the story. I’m sad the story is over, but grateful to have been apart of Edmund and Andrews adventures even for this short moment in their long lives.

The cliffhanger at the end of book 2 in this trilogy, Escaping Solitude, left me frantic. Luckily, this installment picks up mere moments from where the previous left off and continues the story without missing a beat. This trilogy of novellas will make for a seamless full book once released in that format.
In her paranormal writing, Bauer excels at showing the ways in which monsters are people, too. The plot to this finale comes full circle, revealing that people can be monsters in their own right. Bauer also brings us deeper into the vampire mythos she has created in this world, one that is at once familiar and entirely her own. The Elder vampire is a mixture of enticing and total creeper. He'd make a fabulous sort of anti-hero if Bauer ever decides to show us his full story.
The epilogue verges into sappiness territory, but its exactly what's needed to tie off the final threads of the story. Andrew and Edmund have become two of my favorite vampires in literature and they deserve every bit of their happy ending.
I wouldn't want to read it again. It was an okay read.
The ending is what bothered me. It was wrapping up well and then it talked about Flynn's death and, instead of being happy about their happily ever after, I was just sad. Flynn was sweet and I was content to assume he went on to be in love with someone who was in love with him. I would like to think he lived a long and happy life. Especially after the relief I experienced as a reader when it turned out Brien hadn't actually killed him. But then it specifies that he was still in love with Edmund when they met him again 15-20 years later and that he died young from illness. I know it was mentioned in the context of how they made him happy and stayed with him throughout his illness. But it just made me want to cry. Instead of being pleased with the resolution, I was just frustrated that the plot never uncovered another way to make vampires because I wish someone had made him into a vampire instead of him dying like that.

AMAZING STORY! This is the last part of Andrew and Edmund's love story and it might be my favorite. This whole trilogy is my favorite m/m love story with vampires. It is fast paced, well written and has very likable MCs. I felt like every book showed different type of battle. While the first book was about the beginning of Andrew and Edmund's relationship it was also about Andrew's fight to stay sane on his island, the second book was about being a couple, meeting Andrew's friends and their fight to keep Edmund alive (forever). This time they won with death but had to deal with unpredictable and kinda crazy Older, prejudices and hatred.
It was a wonderful read! Entertaining and unpredictable with MCs I already miss. I couldn't stop reading and I wouldn't mind if there was more books about Andrew and Edmund's lives during centuries. As much as I loved Orlean and London from their point of view I'd like to see more, know more about them.
If you haven’t read the first two novellas of this series yet, you’re in luck because now you can binge all three! Escaping Mortality is the darkest and most eventful of the three novellas, and that’s saying something. Andrew and Edmund are reaching for forever in this final chapter with a couple of villains getting in their way. There is something deeply poetic about Edmund becoming immortal just in time to confront his life choices and the person he is.
Bauer’s perfect blend of incredibly realistic characters with supernatural situations and abilities makes for an amazing read. And I completely expected to despise the side character, Felipe, but he really grew on me. Bauer makes the best characters. They’re dark and complicated and sometimes evil but still lovable.
All three novellas managed to drastically change settings and deal with different events and issues, keeping readers on their toes and swooning. Love this!
When Sara Dobie Bauer approached me to review the final book in the Escape Trilogy, I was keen to see how the series would conclude. Escape Mortality was a fun little read that I got through in a single sitting. It picked up right from the events that ended book two, and it was great to see Edmund's journey continue as he adjusted to his new vampiric nature, and the jealousy that sprang up between Andrew and the Elder. All in all, it was a satisfying conclusion to the tale, with a good blend or action and steamy romance; however, taken individually, I think book two remains my favourite of the three. If you are looking for an engaging, quick LGBT PNR read, then I recommend the Escape Trilogy. 4.5 stars.
I received this book as a free eBook ARC from the author, in exchange for an honest review.
I'm sad to see this series come to an end. It's been a lot of fun.
I feel like there were a lot of plot threads all coming together in this third installment. Maybe there's a little too much going on, because it felt like not as much time was devoted to atmosphere this time around. Still, at least all the plots were actually wrapped up; I hate unresolved plotlines, and I'm willing to sacrifice some ambiance if it means everything actually gets settled, lol.
There's an elder vampire and Edmund's mother and London balls and country estates full of surprises, along with Edmund's mysterious powers . . . it's just a lot. But Edmund still manages to be the smartest guy around, even when he's kind of freaking out, and Andrew loves him like crazy through all of it.
As an added note, I usually dislike epilogues, but I thought the one in this book was wonderful.
This final book was just great. I wish all three of these novellas would have been full novel length. I loved these characters, all of them.
About the epilogue. I usually roll my eyes at "and then they get married" epilogues. I didn't this time. When Andrew mentioned it was June 24th 2011, my eyes filled with tears. Knowing they had lived such long lives always hiding their love, refraining from even the smallest, simplest touches in public, being spat on for being fairies and degenerates... Living to see same-sex marriage get legalized and calling each other husbands... well. That was the perfect ending for me, and it made me very emotional.
Devoured these three books in the course of a day and a half. Highly recommend them.

Sara Dobie Bauer delivered a vampire love story like no other! Danger, mystery and travel. I binge read through all 3 books in less than 3 days. Who needs sleep, really?! I was captivated by the imperfect characters that weren’t afraid to be themselves and loved each other despite their flaws. This is a truly inspiring tale about excepting people for who they are, darkness and all, and the willingness to go to the ends of the earth to save the person that you love. This book brought a strong finish to the series and I am reluctant to let these characters go. Warning: don’t start this book before going to bed, because sleep will elude you!
I received a copy of Escaping Mortality by Sara Dobie Bauer via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review. This was an excellent finish to the Escaping trilogy. While normally I dislike anachronisms in historical fiction, there was one of my favorite lines used to good effect and made me LOL in a book otherwise not funny. I also was impressed with a new method of creating a vampire, an important tweak on the sharing of blood in most other vampires stories. I did not anticipate several of the twists the story took, unlike in the previous books. The author provides a satisfying ending to the series, although I am sad to not hear more of Andrew and Edmund’s adventures.
This is the final installment of the Escape Triology. I absolutely fell in love with this series with the first book. Everybody who loves vampire books definitely must read this series as its an awesome mix of the romance between Edmund and Andrew, and the dark side the vampire world brings.
In this third book Edmund discovers his new self as vampire while visiting his sick mother in England together with Andrew, their friends and not least of all, the vampire elder which seems rather intrigued by Edmund. Theres comparatively a lot going on and im not sure if a lil less wouldnt have been more but its definitely a very enjoyable read. While the first 2 books where mostly in Andrews world, this one focus on Edmund, his hometown, his past.... we learn a lot about him though personally i think i was most intrigued by the Elder who was nothing like i expected, he drew me in very much while i tried to figure him out.
The story picks up from the second book where Edmund and Andrew were searching for an elder, so if you haven’t read the first books you definitely need to read those first.
Escaping Mortality takes us to London in the final instalment of this dark vampire tale. Edmund and Andrew’s relationship takes another turn, but the love between these two is evident, and I loved the epilogue - just perfect for them.
If you're a fan of vampire tales with a bit of a twist and a little on the darker side I would definitely recommend this trilogy.
They are back. Edmund has been determined to become a vampire like his beloved Andrew. Finally he gets what he wants plus a bit more. Their journey takes them to England to deal with family. Mischief occurs. Fights and drinking. All make for an excellent tale of a pirate and a vampire. Well written and entertaining. The trilogy comes to an end. Will look for more work in the future from this author. Enjoyed all three books and so will you.
