I adore LitRPG and GameLit stories and Paul Bellow’s Tower of Gates series is among the series that head my list of faves in this genre (the others being Shannon Pemrick’s Looking For series, Carrie Summers’ Stonehaven League series and Jamie Davis & CJ Davis’ Accidental Traveler and Accidental Champion series). So no surprise that I was very happy to get my hands on Paul Bellow’s Blitz: A LitRPG Novel (Tower of Gates Book 6). This is a great novel which advances the story line and tells what happened to Sarah when she got separated from the group. How she deals everything thrown at her makes for yet another exciting tale and a strong contribution to an increasingly complex and freaking wonderful overarching story arc. This is great stuff. Period. It’s especially sweet for anyone (like me!) who is a lifelong gamer. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

While this book has one of the coolest characters in the series, and the story is pretty good, it's still not up to the fabulous first three books. The ending is great, also and almost got me to put it a 4 stars.

We are seeing another minigame, as Sarah uses her new class and the city builder minigame to spend a twenty year penalty inside the game. Of course, time dilation and compression ensures she arrives at the right time.

The last three books have been about mostly a single character from the original cast, and only seemed to advance the story a little bit each, because most of the books was about the penalties they suffered .

While that is a great piece of world building, and I really love that part, as it shows the way the GM AI treats and threats it's people, it isn't as great as a story. It's still good enough to keep reading the series, and the last chapter will surely keep you wanting more.

Pretty good story extension. It focused on a charcter we haven't seen much of in the most recent volumes, so that was good to see. It also introduced some new questions about the world and it's game master's motivations. If you've been following the series from the start, this is one installment you won't want to miss. If you're just getting started, you can read this one without too much discontinuity, though you may want to read the rest of the series anyway, just for completness.

20 years isnt really that long

The more I read this series the more I want to be trapped inside of it. I enjoy watching the characters grow and overcome the challenges they face

This review covers books three through six that I read consecutively. So far the series has shown the less pleasant side of human nature. The story is imaginative with interesting twists of plot. The decisions and actions of the characters are sometimes baffling and illogical. All characters in the book appear to have the inability to learn from past mistakes. The main characters themselves at times appear to have the same personality with a mediocre dose of arrogance. Situations and their solutions at times seem to be contrived.

The actions of the characters and the situations were hard to stomach until I had a change of perspective. The question I came up with is "Are their actions due to the style of writing of the author or are they being heavily influenced by the AI?" I was able to utilize suspension of belief by choosing the latter. I have found my enjoyment of the series to increase as I follow it further and look forward to seeing future growth and more of the world created by Mr. Bellow.

Very Respectfully,
Shea
