Wow. Great stories. The author is a wonderful story teller and has a super imagination. From one book to the next, Hualiama grows from a child to an adult. We find out about her heritage and where she came from. She is a special shape shifter, the first of her kind. She suffers pain and betrayals, to finally become a special STAR with awesome powers. This series is riveting. The characters and other dragons are so interesting. I have since read all of the other books about the dragons, and the related books about the girl and the whales. The stories are so good I can't wait for the next book.
Really enjoyed the books. Had all the great dragon characteristics, characters were delightful, conversations between them very entertaining. The author is a wordsmith of great skill. It got too wordy and rambled on sometimes and eventually got back to the story and action. I admit I had to skip over some of the wordiness but truly enjoyed the storytelling.
This could have been a good story, but the author took way to many words to tell it. With the exaggerated, mind-boggling descriptions and repetitive narration, it was too much. I finished it, because i always do, but doubt i will pick up this author again.
My God what an imagination, it was a real adventure to travel to this dragon land and fly with all sorts of dragons, which apparently don't lack of sex appeal to the humble humans. It was incredible. All Hualiama's stars to Mr Secchia.
I have ridden the skies with the beautiful Dragonfriend, fallen in love with a strong and handsome Tourmaline Dragon and become friends with the feisty Flicker! Thank you Marc Secchia for allowing me to tag along on this amazing adventure!!
Wonderful series! If you are a fan of Anne McCaffrey, you will fit snuggly into this adventure of a brave girl with a big and mysterious soul. I highly recommend this series to anyone with a heartbeat.
I really liked this different take on dragons and riders. I am an old fan of Anne McCaffery I have read all McCaffry's work. This series is a good one.
An interesting, but somewhat confusing fantasy series.
The plot is good--a princess (sort of) narrowly escapes after she's captured by the man who overthrew the king and plans to take the throne for himself. In fact, she barely survives until she's nursed back to health by a dragon.
From there, it's not all fun and games as she learns more about dragons, about her own world, and about who she is, but it's a readable story.
The confusion comes in with the interactions and relationships between the characters. Things seem to spring up from nowhere--alliances, hostilities, friendships, love, etc. These things don't develop, they just happen. Sometimes they seem to happen for no particular reason except that the author wanted it at that point.
I dunno. I just wasn't impressed, somehow. It felt like the entire series needed a thorough going over to smooth out transitions and to add more depth.
