Stewart Island #4

Christmas with You

Rate this book
The Kiwi barbecue isn't the only thing sizzling this Christmas...

She’s a Holiday Grinch…
Carly Gatlin doesn’t want to spend another Christmas alone. With her beloved father gone, she’s desperate to be part of a family — so she’s spending the holidays with her step-brothers on Stewart Island. But even with sand, sun, and not a snowflake in sight, everything reminds her of what she’s lost. So no tree trimming, cookie baking, or kisses under the mistletoe for her, thanks. Especially not from Due South’s sexy bartender, Kip.

He’s a too-hot-for-his-Santa-suit killjoy...
Kip Sullivan’s moved hundreds of miles away from his family who’d like to see him married off before his next birthday — on Christmas Eve. Then ten days before the big event, his meddling relatives arrive en masse, and dear God, they’re planning to stay. With match-makers breathing down his neck, it’s becoming harder to ignore the temptation to unwrap Carly like a present under the tree. Kip agrees to help make Carly’s first New Zealand Christmas special. He’s got five holiday missions to complete — one involving a frisky fake reindeer — before he hopes to claim a mistletoe kiss… and maybe even Carly’s heart.

Christmas just isn’t Christmas without this spicy yet sweet Stewart Island novella.

Christmas With You is book four in the Due South series by Tracey Alvarez. This book was generously provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Kip Sullivan has been in Oban for two years and is the bartender at Due South. He loves his life here with this community that has accepted him as one of their own. He moved hundreds of miles away from his family and the legacy he was supposed to inherit, a dairy farm. None of his now adult sisters were interested in taking over the farm so it fell to his parent’s only son. It is not what Kip wanted, though, the solitary life getting up before dawn and working in the barns all day.

Carly Gatlin is Del Westlake’s step sister. Now with Del gone, Carly doesn’t have anyone left in Los Angeles. So she packs up and moves thousands of miles across the world to be near her step mom, Del, and to try to establish a relationship with her oldest step brother, West. It’s summer in the land down under, and no matter how hard Carly is trying to fit in with the Westlakes and Harlands, she is lonely. She misses her Dad and the holiday traditions they had. There is also the attraction she is feeling for the oh so sexy bartender, Kip. She has no idea if he is feeling any attraction to her until the day she fell off the ladder trying to hang mistletoe in Due South, and fell right on top of him.

“She didn’t belong with the Harlands. She didn’t belong with the Westlakes. And she sure didn’t belong with the Sullivans.”

https://www.google.com/search?hl=en

Kip hasn’t seen his family since he moved away two years ago. So this year his family decided that if he won’t come to them, they will go to him, every…single…one…of…them! Parent, sisters, brothers-in-laws, nieces and nephews, all of them, descended on Oban and Kip boiling over with Christmas cheer. They instantly love Carly and matchmaking ideas are instantly forming in their minds. They are also determined that Carly will have a wonderful, family filled Christmas. “Operation Carly’s Special Christmas” is born.

“The problem was, he wasn’t just attracted to Carly; he cared about her. Too much. She’d burrowed inside him and taken hold in a way he’d never experienced.”

#Teaser Christmas With You (Due South Book 4)

Kip and Carly can only fight the chemistry for so long, add in lots of holiday filled family time with Kip’s family, and a day with Kip playing sexy Santa with Carly as his adorable helper, and they just can’t fight it any more.

#Teaser Christmas With You (Due South Book 4)

This was such a sweet addition to this series. We met Carly in the previous book but it was so wonderful to get to know her. She has such a sunny disposition and the Westlakes can’t resist her for long. And Kip, sigh. I am sure a big portion of the customers in Due South’s bar are there for the sexy bartender. It was so wonderful to experience a New Zealand Christmas with these families I have grown so much to love. I look forward to reading the next book, My Forever Valentine which is book five in the Due South series.

I really enjoyed this book! So beautiful and sweet! Plus it's set in New Zealand! So many sexy men around and their accents are gorgeous! Being an Australian myself, I hear a few Kiwi accents around and it's to die for!

Anyways, before I get too carried away, we meet Carly. A red head girl who has moved to Stewart Island where her step brothers lives, since her father passed away from cancer. Since Christmas is approaching she doesn't want to spent it only, especially since this will be the first Christmas without her father and his traditions.
For months now she has been working at her brother's bar, alongside the bartender, Kip. Being co-workers they speak and bump into each other occasionally and there is an obvious connection between the two but neither of them have spoken or done anything because of it. However that begins to change when Kip's whole family decides to spend Christmas with him instead on the island

Kip, is the youngest in the family, with five older sisters, it is his job to inherit and run the farm after his father has. And for a few years he does, however, it's not the life for him which is why he moves far away.
He is attracted to Carly but he knows that if he gets involved with a girl, especially now his parents are with him, they will try to match him with her and pressure him to marry have kids and run the farm back home. Which he does not want to do at all.
But he can't deny the thoughts he has about Carly and with so much alone time he has with her, his walls of wanting someone to marry slowly begins to break

I really enjoyed this short story, it was sweet and sexy at the same time. Carly was sweet and very determined to make things right with her brothers. Kip, can be annoying with his sisters but he is generous and very sweet towards them too. And when Kip and Carly are together, it's beautiful. Especially when Kip tries to make Christmas very special for Carly and tries to follow her father's traditions with her. It was so sweet and cute and just wonderful to read.

As you can see this is the fourth story of the series, so each can be read as a standalone, however I do think they all interrelate with one another too.

Really enjoy this book, and will most likely pick up the rest of the series too!

Christmas in New Zealand! This festive Christmas romcom was fun, full of family antics, and had a delightful amount of spice.

I loved the chemistry between Kip and Carly, which was only amplified by their perception of how the other felt about them.

Kip's scheming family was a wonderful addition who intrusively barged in on Kip's loner Christmas and brought Carly into the family, because she needed them. So sweet.

Pick it up if you love Christmas themed romance, romcoms with steam, and invasive well-intentioned families.

Ho ho holy hotness

Tracey Alvarez does it again with this sweet, sexy Christmas novella. What can I say, I loved it!

The previous books in this series gave us a few glimpses of Kip, enough that we know he’s Oban’s super-hot bartender. In Christmas With You, we learn what brought him to Stewart Island and that there’s so so much more to him than the way he looks. Carly has recently lost her father and heartbroken after his death, moved from America to Stewart Island to be closer to her step brother’s, desperate to feel the connection of family once again…but getting her oldest brother to accept her is proving as futile as filling the void in her heart.

When Carly literally bowls Kip over everything changes between them. He realises his feelings for her are more than just that of a co-worker, and when Kip’s family descends on the small Island en masse, their story really kicks off. This novella delivers all the hot, sweet, funny, sexy moments I’ve come to expect from this author. I devoured this book in one sitting, and wrapped up with a satisfying HEA, was left grinning from ear to ear.

As always, I’m hanging out for the next book!

3.5 - nice and quickie Xmas read - stars

Not bad for an Xmas quickie. I loved it cos it was free :) Not a smutty, dirty read. Just a sweet, fluffy and low drama story that wrapped up in a neat bow and ended a little too short for my liking.

I woulda loved a more detailed ending but as its a standalone novel in a series, I guess readers will get see future snippets of this couple in the author's continuing stories however; I probably won't be reading others in this series anytime soon - maybe because nothing else really compelled me to find out more about the secondary characters.

Told in third person, dual POV. I haven't read any of the prior stories in this series and was able to catch up easily.

Thanks to the author for a free book to read and review. I'm a confirmed lover of Stewart Island books, in this installment we get to see Carly literally fall for Kip. Christmas books really get me in the mood for the holidays and this one definitely put me in the mood....period. The chemistry between these two was so hot it will melt your tinsel. The only downside for me was that this book ended far too soon. A must have romance to curl up with during these busy holidays! Overall entertainment was four stars, and that gift wrap scene was priceless!

Enjoyable Christmas and New Year Read

This book was fun to read. Characters very life like and how they handled family at Christmas rang true. I cried with Carly over loss and cheered with her when she triumphed.

Reviewed on my blog Becky on Books for 11/21/14.

Another really fun read from the Due South world--this time in fun holiday packaging...with a hot bartender Santa and mistletoe!

For Carly Gatlin, Christmas has always been special--mostly because her dad, a single parent for a good chunk of her childhood, went out of his way to make them that way. They had a series of Christmas "missions" they needed to accomplish each year--one of which was planting magic Christmas beans (aka jelly beans) on Christmas Eve and then harvesting the candy canes that grew there the next morning. So adorable! This Christmas, though, isn't shaping up to be much like the ones of her childhood--her father has recently passed away, and Carly's made the decision to leave her so-called life in California to follow her stepmother and stepbrother Del to Stewart Island.

Christmas means family--but Carly's family just isn't shaping up to be what she'd hoped. Her stepmother's occupied with her first husband, who is very ill, and Del's preparing to donate a kidney to try to save him. Her other stepbrother, West--also her boss--pretty much refuses to refer to her as his sister at all...and and both he and Del are planning to go away for the holidays anyway. So yeah, Carly's Christmas this year is looking to be pretty sucktastic.

Kip Sullivan's not too hot on the whole Christmas deal either--an early "Christmas Miracle" himself, issues with his family's expectations for him precipitated his move to the other side of the country to escape the pressure. But--surprise, surprise!--the lot of them (okay, two sisters short, but still--it's a whole lot of people) have come for a holiday visit! Ho...ho...humbug?

When Carly (literally!) knocks Kip off his feet during a mistletoe-hanging-gone-wrong incident, the attraction between the two gets a whole lot harder to deny. Kip's not looking for anything long-term, though, and Carly's not sure she can do a holiday fling, especially with a coworker, so...

When Kip's mother notices Carly's holiday spirit is somewhat lacking, she enlists Kip's help to make her Christmas bright again. Once he finds out about her dad's "missions", he knows just how to do he's going to do it. Can he get his family--and Carly's landlady--to butt their noses out of his business, though? Or will they provide a needed assist?

Once again Tracey's sense of humor shines through in her writing--the scenes where Kip and Carly are corralled into being Santa and his elf for the Christmas party are especially amusing. Throw in an ornery "reindeer" named Dudley (a rather rude pony sporting felt antlers) and I couldn't stop giggling. Kip's twin nephews also provided quite a bit of comedy relief--who knew it was possible to tie your brother to a chair with tinsel? I am supremely disappointed that I never thought of it myself--talk about wasted opportunities...

My only complaint is that I would have liked it to be longer, but really just because I wanted more Kip and Carly time, not because it needed to be. The only part that felt at all rushed was the Carly / West angle, but since he was more than a bit of a butthead for not warming up to her sooner, its abruptness didn't really bother me all that much.

Plus, you know--it's Christmas. Time for miracles, whether they be of the brother-not-being-a-butthead-anymore variety or the bartender-realizing-he's-boyfriend-material-after-all type.

A favorite line:
"He was probably checking to see if you had any hidden food."

"In my hoo-ha?"
(after Dudley the reindeer got a little too fresh with his elf--thankfully without any small-people witnesses. I almost spit out my Pepsi Max on that one--thanks, Tracey! ;) )

And another, this one courtesy of Kip's mum:
"Trust me, Kip, no woman looks at a man the way she looks at you and secretly thinks, 'I can't wait to snag this guy so I have my future in-laws around me 24/7.'"
Preach it, sister.

Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A-

If you, like me, didn’t think sexy was an adjective you’d ever use when referring to Santa Claus, get ready to be proven wrong. In the latest chapter in the Due South Series, Christmas with you, Santa is a twenty-seven-year-old Kiwi hunk with brown hair and blue eyes.
I’ve loved all the books in the Due South Series so far, and this one’s no exception—especially since I love Christmas stories. Well, this is not your usual white Christmas story, mainly because it’s summer in New Zealand, but it does get you in the mood for Christmas.
The hero, Kip Sullivan is handsome but he’s also a well-rounded character, who has his rough edges (when it comes to his family and to trusting a woman to be his forever) that make him so much more likeable as a hero. There is a lot of character development as far as he’s concerned, and I really liked that.
Carly is super cute and funny. I loved how she was all Grinch-ish at first, especially in the first scene when she walks into Due South and Michael Bublè’s song is playing. I loved seeing how she blended into the Sullivan’s family and how much she wanted West to consider her his sister, and not only someone to keep at arm’s length.
Kip’s family is hilarious. His big sisters were such fun to read about and were great side characters.
There are some rather hot scenes, so don’t pick this book as a Christmas bedtime read for your children!
All books in the Due South Series can work as a standalone, this one even more than the others because it’s about two characters who’ve always been rather on the side in the other books, so you don’t actually have to have read the other books in order to enjoy this one.
Whether you’re a Grinch or a Christmas freak who starts trimming the tree more or less when the first leaves turns yellow, you’ll love this romantic, funny and sexy novella. All year round.

Carly and Kip both work at Due South. She's on the island to be with what's left of her family and that includes West. He's the one stepbrother that has a difficult time acknowledging that she's his sister. Kip's on the island because he did not want the life of a dairy farmer like his father. When Kip's family descends on Oban, they are determined to get Kip to come home and run the farm. They also try to give Carly back some of the Christmas cheer she's been missing since losing her father. With the interference of the Sullivan clan, Kip and Carly don't stand a chance at fighting his matchmaking family, even though they don't need the help.

This Christmas novella in the Due South series is fantastic! Characters are funny, witty, and extremely sexy. There are moments that bring tears to your eyes but mostly laughter. My only regret is that I couldn't spend more time in Oban for the holidays with these fantastic families. Thank you Tracey Alvarez for another wonderful visit to this amazing island! I'm looking forward to the next Due South book.

This series is INSANELY good. I could gush buckets about it all day.

This book is every bit as brilliant as the other books in this series. I already loved Carly from Ready to Burn and I was looking forward to her story.

Kip has been mentioned in some of the other books as a bit of a ladies man but we didn't know much else about him. Turns out, he is a really decent guy, and much less of the ladies man than most people think. Having grown up in a house full of girls, he knows how to relate to women and he is sensitive and caring. He is also HOTT (extra T worthy as Wendy Higgins would say) and Carly has been trying to avoid falling for him. All that changes when his delightful family turn up at Christmas time and set about match-making.

Tons of wonderful dialog and plenty of LOL moments make this a joy to read.

Tracey has an amazing ability to take a plot that could be considered quite simple and transform it into something magical and special.

Another sensational read. My only complaint is that it was too short and I could easily have devoured more. I'm a major convert now and I know I will continue to read this author's work.

If you have not read any of Tracey Alvarez's books yet then you're missing out.

Christmas With You is a novella featuring Kip Sullivan, bartender at Due South, who we've seen in the other books in this series, and Carly, a relatively new arrival on the island.

I was a little worried when I learned this was Kip's book. In book 3 of the series, Ready to Burn, Kip is presented as a little shallow and rather boring. In this one we find out he's much more complicated than that.

Even though this was a novella, the story didn't feel rushed. The romance between these two flowed at a natural pace and I loved the light hearted moments as much as the more heated ones. Getting to meet Kip's family was nice, too. It added an extra dimension to him and moved the story along.

I would recommend this story to anyone who likes contemporary romance, especially small town romances. This is an amazing read.

Christmas with You (Due South, #4) by Tracey Alvarez
Christmas With You was a super sweet, heartwarming story, perfect for the holidays. Of course I was going to love it because I already love all the characters from this series, but even readers who aren't familiar with the Due South series can still enjoy this novella.

I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic Christmas story. If you've read other books by this author then you probably already know you can't go wrong with her.

After reading Ready to Burn I felt kind of bad for Carly so I'm really glad she got her happily ever after. Carly and Kip were a perfect match and the Christmas theme suited them so well.

Miracle Man

Such a sweet and steamy story! Born a Christmas Miracle, Kip could be the Christmas Miracle for Carly. Carly once loved the holidays, but with losing her father the year before. She had been very grinch-like since. Especially with a step-brother who may be her boss, but who also was her unwilling step-brother. Things aren't looking very jolly for Carly. Until she falls pff a ladder and onto Kip, when his parents unexpectedly walk in on this situation. The laughs an passion don't stop throughout the rest of the book. Great read, totally a book you can enjoy in an afternoon.

I couldn't resist reading at least one xmas book during my break, I'm glad it was this one. This could easily be a stand-alone but I'm hoping all the rest are just as good. This was a fun, flirty and a bit sexy read. The writing was really solid; there was a fun family water gun competition that I noticed this most- it very well described, comical action and environmental surroundings were extremely clear in my mind. One small criticism - when Kip pictures all the future holidays in his mind, I would have liked to hear more local, new Zeeland culture holidays - not traditional usa....even if they are the same, maybe slip one in to appreciate the theme.

Tracey Alvarez has the ability to create characters with depth and worthy obstacles to overcome while they are falling in love. As part of the Due South series this novella tells the story of Kip the bartender and Carly the stepsister of two brothers that have starred in previous Due South books. The attraction is strong and believable, the scenes well crafted and entertaining; the problems of Kip and Carly that must be overcome are often faced by real people and the story in its entirety a true delight.

A Christmas Novella to love

Kip and Carly are the focus of this Christmas based novella set in the beautiful Stewart Island.

Carly thinks Lip is a ladies man, not interested in settling down.

Lip believes that Carly, newly arrived from the U.S. wouldn't be interested in him, until his parents get involved- a little match making here, a little stirring there, and the next thing, a fledgling romance. But will itemize than a holiday fling.

Beautiful setting, lots of interesting characters, Ms Alvarez knows how to spin a yarn.

Another great story by Ms Alvarez. Not only do we get to see the main characters grow, we see this in the secondary characters, who we met in previous novels. As in many families at Christmas, there are meddlers and this new family to the Due South series start off with best intentions to add some Christmas cheer, but end up match making and they don't even realise it at first. Excellent!

Christmas New Zealand style

This is a cute little romance, that is part of the Due South collections. Thankfully it can be read as a standalone, though characters from the other books will pop up from time to time. It's full of drama, family angst, comedy, and lots of romance.
