उसने कभी परवाह नहीं की, लोग उसके बारे में क्या सोचते हैं। खुद की पॉजिटिव पब्लिसिटी के लिए उसने कोई पीआर टीम नहीं रखी। नाम ही रावण था, तो पीआर टीम भी क्या तीर मार लेती? फिर अंत में तीर तो राम का ही लगना था। बहरहाल, जैसी भी कट रही थी लेकिन मजे से कट रही थी जिंदगी। एक रोज अगर लैला-मजनूं की एंट्री उसकी जिंदगी में नहीं होती, तो आज भी रावण लंका में बैठकर ओल्ड मोंक का गिलास थामे दीवारों से बातें कर रहा होता। त्रेतायुग के रावण से तो आप कई टीवी सीरियल्स में मिलें होंगे लेकिन अब कलियुग के रावण से मिलिए ‘रावायण-लीला ऑफ रावण’ में।

कहते हैं कि इस दुनिया में हर इंसान में कुछ अच्छाइयाँ और कुछ बुराइयाँ होती हैं पर हम हमेशा उस चेहरे पर ज़्यादा ध्यान देते हैं जो हमें मीडिया द्वारा या आस पास के लोगों या परिवारजनों द्वारा हमें किसी व्यक्ति के बारे में दिखाया जाता हैं. अपना विवेक और तर्क हम ज़्यादातर प्रयोग ही नहीं करते. लोग अमूमन अपने फ़ायदे के लिए, क़ानून का सहारा अपनी तरफ़ मोड़ने के लिए जमकर झूठ बोलते हैं दुष्प्रचार करते हैं.

क्या जरुरी है कि राम नाम का व्यक्ति ईमानदार ही होगा या फिर रावण नाम किसी पापी का ही होगा. सैफीना के बच्चे ‘तैमूर’ का विवाद तो कोई भी नहीं भूला होगा. आखिर क्यूँ यह कहा जाता है कि नाम में क्या रखा है?

यह कहानी नए ज़माने में एक इलाक़े के कुछ बाशिन्दों की है जिसमें कुछ को लोग राम जैसा अच्छा मानते हैं और कुछ को लोग रावण जैसा बुरा. इन बाशिन्दों की कहानी उसी इलाक़े में हो रही राम लीला के समानांतर चलती है. अलग अलग मौक़ों पर लोगों के असली नकली चेहरे सामने आते रहते हैं. रिश्तों के मायने कहानी के साथ साथ बदलते रहते हैं. यह घटनाएँ कहानी में बहुत सक्षम तरीक़े से, तेजरफ़्तार घटनाक्रम में दिखायी गयी हैं. हर घटना कोई ट्विस्ट लाती है और कुछ ऐसा होता है जो आप सोच भी नहीं सकते पर ऐसी घटनाएँ, परिस्थितियां हमारे अड़ोस पड़ोस में होती ही रहती हैं.

अब कहानी तो आपको मैं नहीं बताऊँगा पर कहानी आपको झकझोरने में सक्षम है और सोचने पर मजबूर करती है.

कहानी मस्त लिखी है. हालाँकि कहानी पढ़कर मुझे ये लगा कि इसकी लम्बाई लगभग दोगनी होनी चाहिए थी. कुछ घटनाओं को थोड़ा और विस्तार देने की ज़रूरत थी. कहानी का क्लाइमैक्स थोड़ा फ़िल्मी और पूरी कहानी की स्पीड के मुक़ाबले धीमा लगा.

कुल मिलाकर इस क़िताब ने मेरा भरपूर मनोरंजन किया.

The book tells the story of a regular guy living in the lower-middle class locality. His dysfunctional family with its peculiarities and his sharp tongue and witty & sarcastic remarks make for hilarious scenes. The character of Urmi, who drinks beers, is overweight and has a manly voice is an unusual female lead but still manages to win the reader's heart and sympathy. The man who plays Ravan at the local Ramlila is the second lead, who leaves an everlasting impression on the readers because of his do-good attitude and for his helping the main character. Ravayan is an extraordinary book. It makes you laugh, cry, think and leaves an everlasting impression on you.

The author confidently and masterly walked the tight-rope of dealing with an epic like Ramayan. He makes no comment or fun of the holy book but uses it only as his inspiration. It shows his maturity and ability as a writer. He divides the book into various chapters with funny and interesting names like 'beer-kand' and 'suicide-kand'. His memorable lines that have set Facebook on fire, " Beer is not Sharab (whiskey). He portrays life and people as they are and does not tries to white-wash them. This makes the book a true picture of today's society. The author remains true to his story and does not tries to please everyone at the same time.

What I did not like: The story was small. It could have been a tad longer. Apart from Ravan, there are not positive characters in the story. Surely, everyone cannot be negative in society. Conclusion: Drunk father dancing in dressing-gown with his wife's sister (hero's maternal aunt or masi) and the climax is my favourite and most memorable scenes from the book

'रावायण' एक अच्छी कहानी है। यह एक 'फैमिली ड्रामा' है कुछ बाहरी तत्वों के साथ समापन‌ में एक नाटकीय अंदाज में एक्शन के साथ समाप्त होता है।
