What a great love at first sight love story. Loved Derek and Ren's story. A man not looking for love and a woman that's been abused, can Derek heal her and keep her safe? Will their hearts get in the way of her safety? Grab a copy and see what happens.

Very strong start and plot is very intriguing. However, the dialogue kills me... Our main guy is supposed to be in his 30s as a PI but his monologue was very repetitive and childish. I would understand if it was the heroine’s POV due to her younger age but even then it was very annoying to read. Not to mention the miscommunication...

Page turning, heart wrenching, erotic

I love this read. The characters were real. Their thoughts and emotions was so lifelike. The sex parts were hot. One of the best read I have ever read.

It was free. It was extremely unbelievable and probably needed a trigger warning. I read it bc I started it, but overall not a great read.

Mysterious Appearance

Derek, seeking to get away to find peace, finds what he first believes to be a dead animal blocking the road to his secluded cabin in the mountains. Upon closer inspection, what he discovers to be a bloody beaten woman. Ren is unconscious; unable to tell him anything. Follow the story of how they both discover who she is and how she came to be where she is in that moment. There are innocent women being abducted and sold to dominant men. I enjoyed seeing this author being this story to an end with a HEA.

I am not usually into erotic novels but my wife asked me to read it because she said it had the suspense aspect that enjoy. I was definitely not disappointed with the suspense or the eroticism of this book. I am moving on to book 2 so I can find out what happened to the sister.

I read this a while ago and haven’t stopped reading this series long enough write a review. This is the first book and the start of an incredible series. You will fall in love with Ren & Derek. They survive a horrible trauma and come out on top. Suspense, an unexpected love story, and a happy ending with a twist.

Stilted narrative, stilted dialogue, grammatical errors, TSTL heroine

Stilted writing, stilted dialogue, grammatical errors, and a TSTL beroine mar what could have been a rousing good story. There's also the jarring switcheroo with out innocent heroine morphing into a export and presenting herself for punishment. Huh? Where did that come from? She also leaps to (wrong) conclusions and acts without thought. Of course, the hero is obscenely wealthy and, for a PI, makes several imbecilic errors. Cliches big down this potentially good book.

Squeals in happy. This book had the feel of a dark romance without all the torture lol and a hundred percent of the feels. I'd definitely recommend giving it a read. As other commenters have stated, it's not a perfect novel. But nothing that took away from the enjoyment of the story in my opinion.

Spoilery commentary

I deducted a point because there were far too many assumptions made between the characters for conflict's sake. They both kept jumping to the wrong conclusions and never seemed to be talking to each other when it mattered. This device was an okay one, maybe once or twice, but by the third time, I was screaming stop it. Funny enough, he would pause as she was asking him an important question. Then we read her frantic thoughts that are all wrong. This also kept happening to the point I wondered what was wrong with him smh.

Also, when the sisters couldn't meet right away, it left a bad taste in my mouth. This book does suffer from an identity crisis. It's not sure if its a dark romance or a romantic suspense. Unfortunately, during this part, I wished it was the latter.

I still enjoyed the book, however.

Derek is a Fortune 500 millionaire who finds a beaten woman on the dirt road near his cabin. It was strange that while he was cleaning up and doctoring her wounds, he was aroused by the mysterious woman.

The unknown woman can’t remember what happened or who she is. Was she running from people trying to hurt her? And, if so, will they come for her again?

“Needing a connection to someone, even…on a physical level, seems like a necessity for me. Feeling lost and alone, no identity or past.” (29)

Love story was sensual, but the erotica was tapered by the summary-like monologue of each character. It was often repetitive and it didn’t feel like it progressed. It’s an ok suspense love story.

I found that the listing under romantic suspense with a notation below that it contains erotica is very misleading. There is no tension between the characters, no build up, just straight into a creepy kind of perverted sexual relationship that they both leap into without even knowing each other. A super rich PI who doesn't seem to know how to PI, just lust after this petite woman who is entirely enraptured with the touch of a man who supposedly is recuing her. The sex itself not so erotic as pornographic, the storyline lacking believability and with a perimeter of sub characters that the author gives no substance to, as though they are merely conveniently inserted to fill in the blanks. Not a good read for me.

The story reads like a pubescent teen's fantasy with lots of raging adolescent hormones. None of the characters are all that bright and make lots of dumb decisions. The love-at-first-sight thing is really stretched to the limits here when you consider what just happened to the young woman that is found. And the 'hero' comes off more like a borderline stalker, domineering redneck than a good guy. And oh, let's make him super rich so we know right from the get-go that his intentions are all good. Lots of parts in the story didn't work for me, and yet overall, I liked it, even the cheap twists and the weak attempt at editing. I did feel the passion.

Lost to Derek and Jax

I gave this book 4 stars only because the writing seems just a bit stilted in some areas. However, I loved the story. I fell in love with Derek and his protective nature. And also with Ren. Ren is not guarded by nature, but because of the ordeal she has been through she has to self-guard herself and her heart. Along with the constant worry over someone left behind.
Someone who she's determined to save, as anyone would be.
I am also excited to read the next story with Jax. And I've already fallen for him just a bit, too. I know that his story with Tori is going to be just as amazing!!

Definitely not an easy read

This book is definitely not a light and easy read. It is an extremely intense story with highly erotic themes filled with suspense, terror and abuse of different and extreme sorts but underneath is a unconventional love story. It starts in a way that definitely doesn't seem like anything good could come from it for our Heroine but with time and help from others especially the one who saves her she comes out of the dark only to ride a roller coaster of trials and tribulations in and out of the dark to get to her HEA.

7/5 stars

I am always down for a heartbreaking happily ever after. I was not disappointed. In the beginning I was thrown off by Derick and how fast he fell for Ren emotionally and physically. Especially with everything she was dealing with currently. I had to put the book down for several months before jumping back in. Boy am I glad I picked this one back up. I want the kind of love they share. Fiercely protective alpha males saving human trafficking victims and showing unconditional love, definitely a must read.

***** SO many aspects knit together to make the book a five star rating from the subject matter to the natural flow of the text. I was reading at every opportune moment making it a quick read ! At times I was confused with Derek's choices but even other characters voiced it later so I was able to drop that it bugged me.

A real page turner. Couldn't put it down.

This is an interesting bad versus good when . There are terrible people in this world but there is also good people who will go out of there way to protect the innocent. I love when you can read a well written book and it plays like a movie in your head because of all the fine details. Loved it and I recommend it. Enjoy.😉

Whoo honey! Could this be any hotter...

This was definitely a 5-star read in my opinion. The hot romance, danger and happy ending rapid-fire kept my nose in this book from start to finish! I am not sure I even came up for air. I highly recommend this and any other book by Jodi Kae. I'm going for my second fix right now!

Very nice book that makes you read without break

I like the story and the way it is written. Unexpected is the best part. The turnover in the situations make me want to finish it in one breath. I wanted to know what happens next. It is for people that likes erotic stories that are not overly sweeten.

DNF. Such a good story line but the insta love killed it for me. To the point i could not finish the book. The characters were so childish and made such childish dialogue. I just couldnt get anything out if this book. 🤨😢

A different timeline story

One of the best novels I ever read, the story is different than most of the rest. I totally believed I was in the run with them, I couldn't put down my Kindle down until I finished every single page, even the sneak peek from the next book.

Tragedy to HEA

Throw in some angst and you have a well rounded story. The characters, Ren and Dereck, in this story of redemption and love are are extremely realistic. Great story. Looking forward to reading about Ren’s sister Tori and Jax.

I was sucked into an excellent book. Kept my mind in active progression of activity of the story !

Story line/Adventure/Human traffic abuse that has gone on for years. Close your eyes and pretend it does not happen! Selective choices in this day and age. Shame on us!

Light read

I liked the book, however I did feel the relationship between Ren and Derrick was too quick and some of thg he story should have had more explanations. I read the preview of book 2 and am looking forward to that book as more true to the experiences of the characters

Great!

This was the first book by Jodi Kae that I read. It was a great read! It kept my attention and was very exciting. The descriptions put me right in there with all the excitement. I have already recommended it to my friends, even before I finished reading it.
