wowwwww so it's been close to 20 years since I picked one of these up, and I used to read them A LOT. And draw the characters. And so on. It's not like I ever didn't notice all the banal problems with race and gender and all, and it's not even worth identifying them here because you'd have to be really asleep to miss them, but what I don't think I ever noticed as a kid was how it's not really Betty and Veronica have an even shot at Archie....he pretty much always picks Veronica. Betty's just there if he needs an ego boost or a car fix or something, and she's so much more...pathetic in her portrayal than Veronica, who has actual depth (which is why I've always been Team Veronica). I'm sad now; this was not the complete escapism I hoped for. Being woke ruins everything, and also some of this hits strangely close to home in the wrong way.
