Algy Temple #2

Straight Pool: An Algy Temple Mystery

Rate this book
An Algy Temple Mystery! The body in the ashes of swank Haversham Golf Club sparks Algy Temple's involvement in a death far removed from Carter University's latest skirmish with Providence's mendacious mayor Sonny Russo. Is the fire related to a proposed casino? Or the site's legacy as 'sacred' ground for a band of swamp dwellers? Or the result of ethnic and class hatreds? And how do the harsh realities of Rhode Island's colonial wars and the '38 Hurricane play into a megalomanic's assaults and Providence's poisonous politics? From Providence's East Side, elegant Watch Hill, and the glories of Northern Italy to the grim reality of South County's swamps, Algy's investigative urge duels with his sense of justice as he applies his deft pool skills against opponents who play for keeps. With his companion, the comely psychologist Nadie Winokur, Algy Temple faces his greatest challenge in a game of Straight Pool!

About the author

I am the author of three crime novels in the Algy Temple series of mysteries. According to Publisher's Weekly, the latest "Scratched" is an'excellent,' 'witty and well written whodunit.' I know my gritty, idiosyncratic state like few others. After graduating from Providence College and Harvard Law School, I served in the U.S. Army's Military Intelligence in Vietnam. I spent the next decades practicing law in Providence where I was involved in politics and economic development and was active as a director of various civic entitles and policy councils. A film buff, I have been seen in the Hollywood productions of Meet Joe Black and The Last Shot and in episodes of The Brotherhood. After the successful Carom Shot and Straight Pool, I continued the pool motif in Scratched with the notorious n'drangheta, the most viscious gang in Italy.

#2 in the Providence, Rhode Island Algy Temple mystery series. Algy is the in house council for Providence's Carter University.

Algy's close friend calls upon him to help help his sister's husband out of potential legal troubles involving a new upscale golf course development which may go in flames as it brand new club house just did with a body in it. However, things are complicated because the site is considered sacred ground for a for a small but contentious Native American group, the city's mayor and the university has an on going feud and the involvement of a major crime figure with long standing grievances.
