Fourteen glimpses into other worlds filled with the sinister, the weird and the downright horrific. But where to go first?... Grab your phone and take to the streets for murder, mutilation and LOLs in Shenanigans. Visit the home with dead things in the walls, but wipe your feet or you could end up as insulation. Have a bite at the pizza place that'll make you wish you were lactose intolerant (and stab proof) Pay a visit to the Heartbreak Police, though try not to bleed on the linoleum... All these destinations and more are waiting for you in Splinters, a collection of short, sharp tales that will get under your skin.
So much new horror work(books and films) relies on cliche. So, I was a really happy to find this book with a bunch of original, scary little stories. It's ideal for a commute or if you're traveling. The stories grab you quickly and each of them was laced with the kind of dark humour I enjoy. Recommended!
I'm not usually one for short stories, or horror for that matter. However I felt like going for something different and I'm glad I picked this. The captivating and creative scenarios in each of these stories had me hooked. Reads like a series of Black Mirror! 👍
A belting little book of 14 weird, horrific and darkly-comic stories. Chris Jeal has a truly fantastic imagination and a very engaging style. I thoroughly recommend 'Splinters' to anyone who likes original, left-field tales leavened with some very black humour.
A lot of books I struggle to get into - but this was such an easy read. The stories read like watching a film rather, and you can picture every story in your head. It was scary at times, but also written with a touch of humour. I’d say it was more ‘tales of the unexpected’ or black mirror than traditional horror. But I loved it. Only criticism is I wish it was longer.
