Kismet was a normal college student with good grades, a best friend, a mother and grandmother, and an ordinary life. Well, as normal as being a witch in the infamous Syntyche coven can be. At least, she was before she died. When Kismet's mother and grandmother go missing, the threads of a deadly plot from within the coven begin to unravel, and, after a dangerous attempt to find her family, she loses it all. Her family. Her life. Her body. But her soul? It isn't giving up so easily. Then, there are the four witch hunters who aren't all that they appear to be, harbouring secrets that could either save Kismet's people or destroy them all. It's up to her to figure out which one it will be, with the fate of her coven resting on her shoulders. And her attachment to the four of them is supposed to make things easier? Think again.
I love this story of Kismet and am so involved but the books are more like novellas. They give a little, just enough to keep you entice then end on a killer cliffie. Agh! Will def keep reading by storyline is interesting even if it is too short and slow, almost non existent burn.
Holy mother of Tahoe. I'm bringing out the bedazzled pitchforks .... but in a she hurt me so good way. Jenica and her damn cliffhangers. Boy does she know how to write them. She brings you to the edge of your seat and then nonchalantly gives you that nice little push over the edge and leaves you jonesing for more of the story. I almost feel like a toddler demanding the cookies as I write this, except for I'm demanding for more of this story and Jenica isn't my mother.
Jenica isn't afraid to explore flaws and vulnerabilities in her characters, and this really shows in this second book. For all intents and purposes, what Kismet did at the end of book one was selfish .. albeit selfish for the right reasons. She's not afraid to have Kismet look at her actions and make her question whether or not she made the right choices. Kismet vowed never to cause harm to others, but in thinking rashly she jumped to a decision that did cause more harm than she intended. She begins to question if causing harm is so black and white, and if in fact there is this gray area how is she supposed to decide which harm is worse. Kismet begins to question the world she grew up in and who she is as a not dead but still dead witch ... you can feel the identity crisis brewing and I can't wait to see how she evolves as the story goes on.
We get our first POVs from someone other than Kismet, and I have to admit they were my favorite chapters of the book. It was nice to see things from Gavyn and Jadwin's side of the story and how they are feeling about everything. Since Kismet has returned ... again ... they have been walking on egg shells around her not quite ready to come head to head with her and how they feel about her and everything that has happened. They aren't ready to face that with her, but in allowing the readers to get these POVs we are able to develop a stronger bond with them as characters and get a taste of how they feel about everything. Zeph and Hansen may not have had their own POVs in this book, but they kept themselves in the forefront of the story with their own quirk and sarcastic one liners. Heck I'll even go as far to say that Hansen had some of the best lines of this book, I mean holy closet I am still having nightmares about demented jack in the boxes. Jenica continues to bring you interesting and unique voices with each member of the harem, and all though they are flawed you can't help but love them with all of your heart.
Book two will definitely hit you more on the emotional spectrum, but I feel like it's only a taste of what's to come. Wars are brewing on the horizon, but I feel like our lovely coven of an undead kind of alive witch and witchy witch hunters have so much more to go through before they are ready for what's about to come. My heart is aching over what Kismet is going through with that cliff hanger and I'm eager to see how this will affect her moving forward. I also am going to nonchalantly beg Jenica to not destroy my heart even further, I may have masochistic tendencies but my heart wants what it wants ... and I want that cliffhanger to not do what I think it might do. (I know cryptic much but you'll have to read it to find out).
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
If I thought book one was original then it has nothing on this new installment to this amazingly original series. We catch back up with Kismet who is yet again stuck somewhere else trying her best to get back to the guys. She eventually figures it out which leads to some more surprise and a few twists that I would have never been able to come up with. Saren has a fascinating imagination which shows quite lovely in her writing making her stories really stand out from the others. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Firstly, overall, the second book is just as lovely to read as the first. Speaking of, if you haven't read Ghosted yet, I recommend reading it.
Kismet once again finds herself in...well the craziest of situations with her four extremely sexy hunter friends. Seriously Gavyn and Zeph my sweet beans. Now that the fangirly crushing is over, back to the review.
At some point my heart had been scorched, but I will not spoil anything for you , dear fellow readers. However for the next bit I will put a quote from the book.
Just in case
*spoilers* if you read past this and ignore it , it's on you, my honey bees. . . . . I will say something though, Kismet does bounce back like a demented jack in a box, so a certain Banshee witch is probably gonna want to be careful.
Now if you'll excuse me, i'll retreat back to my cave with some comfort food for my heart and lungs, until book 3.
Seriously, I don't know if it's cause I laugh at anything and everything but goddess, the humour jams my toast.
Enjoy reading, honey bees.

That won't bother anyone, most especially the dead girl. Undead. I had to keep reminding myself I wasn't dead anymore.
Wowee! Another great instalment in the Absent Fate series. Picking up right where we left off from Ghosted, Spirits brings it all together with more hilarity and wit in Kismet's character. I think I kinda feel sorry for her Four Witch Hunters who have to deal with it all!
I'm thoroughly enjoying this series because it has constantly kept me guessing as to what everything means (something I'm still not sure of after reading book 2!). I can't wait to find out more about how these unlikely hunters joined together, and how they now fit into the grand scheme of things. I love that so much of Kismet's personality is like my own, a little sarcastic, a bit honest, and a lot of accidental falling. I can't wait to read Afterlife to see if we can't kick the Banshee Witch's butt!
**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author for review consideration**
This was the 1st book that I've read in the series and I must say that initially I was very very confused. I had no clue as to what was going on and at one point of time wondered if the heroine Kismet was a stark raving lunatic.
But in one single page I got the clarity I needed to move on and honest to God this book was a super duper amazing story. I loved Kismet, she is someone every girl can relate to at some level. She is strong, fragile, affectionate, loyal, sassy and so much more all at once. She is an outstanding female lead. The book is full of so many twists and turns that a reader will go mad with glee and will end with a cliffhanger that will make you yearn and beg for more.
For those who haven't read book 1 in this series please read book 1 to give a better insight and connect to the story. I'm going to get book 1 now.
For those who hate cliffhangers wait till book 3 is out and then read 2 and 3 together.
First of all Kismet with her quirky personality, clumsiness and inner strength is amazing. Secondly the guys are intriguing each have their own strengths and oh man hot! As Kismet and the Hunters journey continues and as she puts more things together, everything that is going on with the fight against Marcia and her banshees along with her growing army is getting intense. Quite a few surprises and that ending was kind of heart breaking I'm not gonna lie I may have shouted and cussed a bit there at the end just saying. Great characters and an interesting and entertaining story line. I absolutely can not wait until April for the next book! Great series so far.
The laugh-out-loud sequel to the Absent Fate series is about Kismet who unwittingly became a spirit who has the life of a cat it seems, but without the coordination & balance. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, so just read & review for yourself. I was so excited to get a chance to read this series that I read Spirits in a day! I kid you not, I started reading the book late in the afternoon & couldn't put it down to sleep. With that said, I can't wait to read the 3rd installment, Afterlife, with a cliffy like that. If anyone read Saren's other hilarious series, The Deadly Omen, I'm glad to announce that Drea & her famous grilled cheese got a shout out.
This is my 1st read and review for this author and it is a great story, I hadn’t read book 1 so there were a few things that were confusing with Kismet’s mother and grandmother but I guess if I had read book 1 then I wouldn’t be confused apart from that I really enjoyed this story I even had a chuckle but I do have to give you some bad news there’s a cliffhanger at the end. Sorry guys I’m not going to give any spoilers to be honest I really wouldn’t know where to start but that’s my own fault coming in the middle of a series that’s a no no. This is a great read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
I love this series so far. These are some of my all time favorite characters, especially Kismet. Her clumsiness, constant joking and self deprecating makes her a unique and entertaining character. This story is so original and full of constant surprises, the endings alone keep you hooked and waiting impatiently for Author Jenica Saren to get the next book written and published. This may have been a quick read but so much happens in such a short time for Kismet and her four Tarzans (haha). I look forward to reading what Jenica has in store for them in the next book.
Holy mother of all that is sacred. I'm gonna mentally kick the authors butt for this cliffhanger. Then I'm going to beg her for book three. I'll be on my knees begging writing muses to fuel her inspiration.
I freaking love this book. It's more serious than book one, but I still had my uncontrollable giggle fits.
Dead-not-dead Kismet has lots of problems and not enough answers.
I highly recommend this series as well as the authors other books. You won't be disappointed.
Kismet is my Spirit Sister (see what I did there hahaha). Clumsy? Check. Caring? Check. Missing her family? Check. Dead? Well that is to be decided. I will be honest. There were a few twists I didn’t expect but I loved them. The ending killed me and I am so excited for the third book!
Jenica has done it again! This book totally put me in a book hangover! Kismet has such a fun personality and the guys attitudes they have are totally warranted after reading their reason behind it. Loved all of it....except.....the ending!!! Omg my heart!!!! Ahhh I need the next book!!!!!

I’m sorry, I think my book is missing a few chapters. Just kidding, it’s not. But holy ending. I’m not gonna lie, I cried. Book 3 where are you??? I loved seeing the relationships unfold and man I haven’t laughed that hard while reading in a long while. It was the perfect addition to the series! Thank you for your review.
First of all. OMG! Loved the fact we got to dive into the guys heads and she how they really think and feel about kissmet, some really beautiful moments with gavyn, the book is definitely worth reading, I am totally freaking out on with the ending! Omg read this totday!

Spirits by Jenica Saren is a wonderful story that I got a chance to read. I fell in love with this brand new author for me and I loved this story cause I love reading about witches. This story I hihgh;y recommend to everyone who loves reading about witches.

So, I still like where this is going, but would like more background....like on the guys...how did they really get put together, why? I need more info on them - when is Kismet going to learn the inner workings of each of her guys? Still, this did keep the reader on their toes - all the twists and turns - and the edge of their seat - major cliffhanger! Awaiting book3!
Cracking up bc of the fmc, all over again in this second book. Story is fabulously written and the fmc goes through some serious crap to just be alive...but the cliffhanger, hurry and get the next book ready and out Jenica, PLEASE!!
She has a great and a normal life, well as normal as being in a given can be. Then she died and she has some protection from them but she is supposed to be drawn to them. Can they help her? Will she want their help? Are they hiding secrets? What are they about to find out? Follow her adventures

This series is awesome! We spend a good bit of it in limbo As the female main character figures out what's going on and what is happening to her. I was sucked right in. But the cliffhanger!
I have been waiting for more Kismet and thos book did not disappoint! I love her humor, dedication to her guys, and her devotion to her creed. I like that we got POVs from the guys to see the story in their eyes. The end of this book left me pulling my hair out and I need
Another cliffhanger. I’m starting to feel sorry for the guys in this one. Immature yep, dense most definitely. With the timings I’m gonna say almost insta love. Everything still feels up in the air at the moment but I’ll be reading the next one.
Omg. If you thought the first book ended in a cliffhanger, this book is worse! I wanted to throw my phone and scream!! It was an awesome book that definitely left me wanting more.
This 2nd novella has the same issues at the first with shallow relationships, an over powerful protagonist, and a one-dimensional evil villain. Similar to the 1st novella, this one also ends on a giant cliffhanger. I will not be reading the rest of the series.
There is some attempt of an explanation given about why the men feel the love that they do.. but I really don't buy it. Same with the explanation of why the villain These explanations seemed to be a bit of lazy convenience for the plot.
We also get the introduction of some fae and shifters as well as the types of jobs that the men work on, but once again, these are just passing scenes that don't add much to the character development as not much detail is given past a few pages. -------- Ratings - abandoned series: #1 Ghosted: ★★★☆☆ #2 Spirits (this book): ★★☆☆☆
