Shadows in the Dark #3

Love and War: Volume Two

Rate this book
I’d waited my whole life for this. Nothing and no one was going to stand in my way. From the moment Lux opened her mouth that night I wanted to be pissed at her, but with one outburst she’d given me everything I’d fucking dreamed of since I was a kid. He gave me the chance of a lifetime, despite his known reputation of sitting alone on his throne. There’s something about him that I’ve wanted since the moment I discovered him, but I vowed to push it aside. I knew from the first day that he’d never see me as more than a wannabe—an amateur. But I was determined to prove him wrong, even if that meant revisiting a past I’d long left behind.

Then he touched me, and since, nothing has been the same.

My entire life I’ve been cold, but that night a spark ignited between us and I’m starting to warm. He knows my deepest secrets. With every part of him I discover the further I fall. It could ruin everything I’ve been working for. I want him—the broken and the battered. The tug of war inside of me is strong.

One mistake could cost me everything, including the beautifully wicked man I’ve fallen in love with. Still, I’m willing to walk away in order to right my wrongs. But the part that scares me the most—it’s only the beginning of the spiral downward.

Note from the author: Love and War Volume One must be read first. This is a Dark Romance. If you do not like dark themes this book may not be for you. Suitable for ages 18+ due to content.

I found books when I was going through a hard time in life. They became my means of escape when things got bad. I realized quickly how much I loved to take a backseat to someone else's life and watch the journey unfold. That began my journey with books in November of 2012. I constantly had a book open on my Kindle app. Never in a million years would I have imagined myself as a writer, because I never thought I was creative enough. I'm living proof that things will fall into place when they're meant to be. People will make their way into our lives when we don't expect it, setting the path for what we are meant to do. Never give up on people. Never stop taking a chance on others. Someone took a chance on trusting me with her work when she didn't know me from a stranger on the street and gave me the opportunity of a lifetime as our relationship progressed, which led me to editing and writing as well. This is my dream I never knew I had. As soon as I sat down and gave writing a shot, it was like the floodgates opened. Now, I am lost in a world of fiction in my head, new characters constantly screaming for their stories to be told. Continue to dream and to go for them. No one ever found happiness by sitting on the sidelines. Sometimes we have to take risks and put ourselves out there. Thank you for all of your support, and may there be many books to come. XOXO- C

Make sure you read Love and War volume 1 before you read this as this is a continuation of Kross and Deltas story.

So after finishing volume one I couldn’t wait to read more of Kross and Delta. The continuation of their story is more than I imagined. Kross and Delta need to move on from their past. They haven’t had it easy but together they can make it happen.

I absolutely loved this story. I read both volumes over three days. I’m hearing a lot about book one Marked so I’m off to read that now.
I’ll certainly be reading more from this author in the future. I loved it.

Omg! Another totally awesome read! I loved the story from cover to cover and I could not put it down. The story had a amazing cast of characters and we loved them all. This story became more and more intense as secrets started coming to life and as this couple went on their separate quests to lay their trouble pasts to rest only to find even more drama to deal with adding yet more twists to the plot for us to love!

The story was filled with so much emotion one minute you were laughing your butt off the next you felt like crying. The story kept me on edge the entire time and I felt like Kross almost gave me whiplash as his moods changed so rapidly as one minute he was all dark dangerous and scary as hell the next trying to be super sweet or as reasonable as Kross can be. Omg!I just loved his character and I have to say he even scared the hell out of me.

Kross is still Kross but we are seeing all these new improvements in Kross this time around and we are loving all the new changes in him.

Delta remained a favorite character of mine as I found her to be sweet, kind, caring, mouthy, had a wicked sense of humor, sexy, bold, strong but, not so strong as not to have her own insecurities. We saw a lot of growth in Delta this time around as expected motherhood put a different spin on things for her and her unborn child became her top priority above all else and we loved that about her. What a fierce protector she became as well as a bit softer yet never lost her claws...LOL

This time around Kross made my top favorite as you had to admire all the changes this man has gone through to keep the ones that make him a better person as well as happier than he has even been. Kross for me was a man of action and I loved the bruting dark man and how protective and possessive he was of Delta as she made the man feel things and do things he never saw himself doing.Delta by just being who she was slowly healed his
tortured soul one kiss at a time.

Kross and Delta were and explosive couple in and out of bed and perfect for one another. The two of them together were hot ! hot! and hotter! This duo took us on one heck of a ride yet again!Holy friggen fanning !I loved how she made Kross enjoy sex for once and actually made it fun and christening the car sex scene comes to mind."Totally hot !"I can only imagine what it must have been like for Delta to be owned by this intense man as it was not an easy road but, I loved that she was up to the challenge ."Smiles"

I loved Kross as broken as he was as my heart bleed for this man and all he suffered .We saw two sides of Kross the very very dark and dangerous killer but, underneath it all was capable of so much love.I loved his struggles and every hurtle he had to overcome to finally put his past to rest once and for all. This man will always be scared, dangerous, lethal and deadly and a life with him will always be an adventure but, you will always know that you are wanted cared for and loved and who you belong to as once this man gives his heart to another it is until death do us part .

We loved this tale as well as the setting and all the characters as they added tons of humor to a book that was very intense and very dark we loved the balance of it all. This is the type of story that had you totally engrossed from the very first pages and I hated to see it end.The story became more intense as the plot thickens.I loved the growth of both characters and Delta made me laugh more than once yet again with that sassy mouth of her. My favorite scene would have to be how she tells Kross the sex of their child I just could not stop laughing just picturing her saying the words out loud and then hanging up on him just hilarious!Loved it.....

I love when you can connect with the characters that you read about and I was able to do that with this cast of characters as you could not help but be intrigued by all the dark dangerous ones but have to love the ones like Remington,Weston and Johnny for their sense of humor.I loved how some of the characters had two separate lives but seemed to make it all work flawlessly.I loved getting to know both sides of those characters.

I loved how the author brought the story to a close because even after all is said an done Kross will always be Kross as he will never change but, we will always see the softer Kross when it comes to his family and those he cares for and those he loves that change alone has made my heart glad as he for the first time is actually feeling something that does not cause him pain.

The most touching moment for me would be Kross holding his child for the first time as the entire scene brought tears to my eyes and had me crying it also had me seeing a glimpse of the real Kross that was dead and buried but now awakened.

So looking forward to reading more of this series as we would love to see more of Delta and Kross as well as the other characters that we have gotten to know.I have to say I loved the conclusion .This was such a emotional story from beginning to end that you will never be able to forget Delta and Kross's love story and their struggles to find happiness and be at piece for once in their life that after so much torment. It will be a story that you will want to re-read over and over again and never tire of and that is what makes it such and awesome read for me.We done !

I was so ready to jump back into Kross and Delta's life after that ending in volume 1 and boy was this amazing. I love love LOVED their chemistry, connection and love story. Delta was the woman for Kross and I loved seeing him slowly realize his depth of feelings for her. This was a fantastic ending to book one!

After that shocking ending in book one, Delta decides to give Kross time to figure out if he truly loves her and wants a future. But with his Queen gone will Kross realize how he truly feels and what he risks losing? I thought the story was fantastic! I loved that the book focuses on Kross' evolution where he has to finally exercise his own demons and dig deep and find himself. Their passion was hot and the story fantastic! All in all, this story was great and I look forward to Lux and Kaston's final book! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

I wanted to start Love and War: Volume Two as soon as I got it, but I was trying to be good and finish the book I was reading and after I was done with it, I was going to jump right in. I made it for a little while, but it wasn’t soon after that that I picked up Volume Two. It took me longer than I was expecting to get it done, but I loved Volume Two even more than Volume One!

In Volume One, it was clear to me that I loved Delta more, but now I’m torn between the her and Kross. Delta has such a kind, warm heart and she’s beyond wonderful — I love her just as much as I did before. And Kross - oh, I love that man even more now. Delta really shone in the first book, but this one was all Kross. He’s just everything you could love in a hero even when he’s not a conventional one. Kross is dedicated, protective, and he can be so sweet — I wholeheartedly loved him.

Love and War: Volume Two didn’t break my heart like Volume One did, but it definitely still made it ache. Volume Two was all meat and bones and heart — it was the complete package. It was full of so much more of everything, especially love, and it was impossible not to fall more in love with Kross and Delta. Love and War: Volume Two was just beyond wonderful and I can’t imagine Delta and Kross never not being my favorites.

Love and War: Volume Two must be read after Volume One, it’s told from Delta and Kross’ POV, and they get their well-deserved happily-ever-after.

"I lay my chin on the top of her head, freely thinking. It’s not the first time I’ve realized that with her, I’m the most peaceful. I’m happy, if that’s what this is. Less angry for sure. But there is a void. That void is one that she can fill, because she already has. We’re at a crossroads."

I, unfortunately, did not enjoy this read as much as volume 1.
I think it would have been better if it was standalone. However, they would have to add on another 200 pages from volume 2 and end the story with one book.
The second read was just a continuation of the cliffhanger that there wasn't a gap.

Volume 2 definitely focused more on Kross's journey in finding solace and closure for what he went through in the past so that he can accept what will happen in his present and future.
How we understand Kross's journey was emotional, heartbreaking, and eye-opening.

While since we're already at volume 2, I wish we would have been given more.
There was more action to Kross's life, the danger and him seeing his closure.
It was a good happy ending that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling and made me cry of course.

“I’m good here. She won’t come home. Her smell is there, some of her things. It’s not warm anymore. Nightmares are back. When she left, they returned. It’s not the same sleeping alone.”

The way I hate read this entire book 🙄 Book 1 was great...until we added an unwanted baby in to the mix and Delta lost her every loving MIND! This entire book, she was beyond annoying, whiny, needy and ridiculous. For one thing, she was stupid to have the baby in the first place. I don't understand why authors always have a girl get pregnant and suddenly they lose their whole mind and personality and any bit of logic they possessed. The way she strong-armed him into having the baby was disgusting. She was so irresponsible she couldn't figure out birth control or how to have a conversation about it, which admittedly, that's on him too, but then she's all weepy he doesn't want the thing that neither of them wanted or are you prepared or qualified to have? She's with a man who has trouble admitting they're even in a relationship, WTF did she expect!? She's a mess of an insecure person and he's an arms dealer/killer, what about that says "parenthood"? So then she basically guilt-trips him into wanting the baby and then has the audacity to say "I want you to want to want it" bitch whaaaaaat? Those baby hormones have upped your crazy a whole 10 levels. Then she won't move back until he says he loves her? Ugggh, she was such a pick-me girl and everything that gives females a bad name. She entered the relationship acting one way and then once she got her hooks into him kept pushing and changing everything up on him. So pathetic. Don't even get me started on Lux, every scene she was in annoyed me. The way these woman were so pushy and needy and demanding makes me scared for the author's husband. *shudder* normalize having an abortion instead of bringing a baby into a world that isn't meant for them Don't say shit like "He wants me to kill our child" no! He wants you to terminate the fetus before it becomes a child you idiot! Is it 2024 or 1924? I get that not everyone feels the same way about abortion and that's fine, but the fact that she refused to even have a conversation with him about the baby was ridiculous. She was just "I'm having it and I'm moving out so that way you have options" naaah, you moved out to punish him and strong arm him into having the baby. It's a good thing I'm not Kross, cause your ass would be having that kid alone after all the bullshit you pulled. Ugh, I don't even have a comment on the rest of the book, this should have been 1 book and the pregnancy bullshit should have been left out all together, never supporting this author again.

What a perfect ending to an amazing story. So many mixed emotions, it’s hard to know where to start. This book picks up exactly where volume one finishes and that is a blessing in on itself. You see the struggles Kross goes through as he adapts to the shocker Delta chucks on him as well as the difficulties Delta goes through and the effect her decision had on her.

We are put through the paces with this one never knowing what Kross was going to do or say or how far he’d stray on the dark size or even if he’d venture out of the dark and into the light. This book literally keeps you on your toes, Kross will say one thing and then do something else that keeps you second guessing your gut, in your heart of heart you know you can trust him but doubt is written in very well. Charisse writes in such a way that Delta’s doubt somehow becomes your doubt, it’s done so brilliantly that you hardly realise, top that off with Kross’s unpredictable personality and you are in for the ride of your life.

This book is dark, discussing some things that need bleach to remove the awful images forever burned into your retinas, but my god does it make so much more sense when you understand the whole picture and not just fragments. So well crafted, you don’t realise how well Charisse has linked everything until you’ve read and internalised it, it is at that point when the lightbulb goes off that you realise how well Charisse has linked what seems to be 'insignificant’ information to something so monumental, that it becomes a game changer.

An incredible book, that despite the exceptionally gory details, will be one you revisit time and time again.

What a fantastic conclusion

Volume 2 concludes Delta & Kross’ story and what a rush of action, vengeance and love. The significance of family becomes defined and Kross finally gets an introduction. I’m still loving Delta’s character and how love will persevere. Plus reading the different characters points of views is enlightening.

This is the continuation of Kross & Delta's story so it's absolutely a must that you read Volume 1 FIRST! That being said, it starts off where Volume 1 left off, with chaos from Delta's confession. So now things are up in the air, as Kross has to deal with his past so he has a future with her. Not to mention, Delta must come to grips with her own as well. From the very first page I was thrown in their world once again, as I fell in love with Kross & Delta from the very beginning of their journey. Do I think that Kross makes some seriously douchey decisions? You bet, as his demons tend to lead him at times. But below the surface, he's a good man despite what he believes, or puts out. And Delta is a strong woman who was dealt a crap hand in life. But there's no doubt that they ignite fiery flames during sexy times that light things up wherever they are at! And the cast of secondaries add more to this addictive story. Plus there are plenty of twists to keep my f-bombs dropping to wrap this up in a perfect package! I CANNOT WAIT for the next book in this awesome series by this very talented author, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Wow I could not put this book down. This was the conclusion to Kross and Delta’s story and boy did this not disappoint. It is packed full of action, love and hope.

Delta and Kross are up against some tough decisions. They both had traumatic childhoods and need to decide how to move forward with them to try and set them self free. Can they find a way so they can move forward and have the relationship they need.

I just love how patient and understanding Delta is to Kross. I can not wait till the new Lux and Alston book comes out. I could not suggest enough to run out and one-click this series. So amazing.

The conclusion of Delta and Kross' story is, quite simply, amazing. I've loved this series from word one, but this volume left me speechless. These characters are so vibrant and present. Their emotions are palpable. The story is dark and twisted and deep, but it is so worth going down that rabbit hole with them! I was warned there would be times that I hated Kross, but never. There were times that I thought Delta was crazy, but trusting this story teller is always worth it. This entire series is, and always will be, at the top of my all time favorite list. Inked. Dangerous. Dirty. A must read!

This book was so much more intense than the first! I was pretty pissed at Charisse numerous times because it did not go the way i thought it was! But.. she did not fail me! Kross made a confession i didn’t think he would at a time i didn’t see coming, then he did something else i didn’t expect!! 😍 i hope to read more on Delta and her mom’s journey though, next time! Ahh i can’t even give this book the amount of stars it deserves bc it’ll only let me do 5! It’s worth triple that!!!

Love and War: Volume Two
5 stars for Love and War: Volume Two by Charisse Spiers. This is book three in the Shadows in the Dark series. “ Love is greater than any aspect of the mind. Love is an oath, an action, and a constant choice to surrender oneself to another.” Kross and Delta’s story picks back up in this book. Kross has to figure out how he truly feels or risk losing his queen. This book is about Kross growing and becoming more. He has to deal with his demons. This story/journey between Delta and Kross was epic. I could not put it down.

Love and War pt2

Kross in a way has no morals but in the other had he has so many. He is has rules and struggles when they change. Delta get Kaston to look into Krosses back ground to try and help him. When he is given the files about his background it triggers his memories and he remembers what happened to his mum and how he ended up in care and he has to do what he does to ease his guilt that isn't really his to have. But then he learns how much Delta and their growning baby means to him when Delta gets kidnapped

3.5 stars. It took me a while to get through this one. I liked the premise a lot, liked the bonding in angst and whatnot but didn’t love how he is a literal stone wall most of the time. It really feels like she puts up with A LOT and he doesn’t allow for anything sort of. It was hot but it was hard to not put this down sometimes. In general glad I finished it and read the next but not my favorite and probably not a rec for others.

I really don’t like the pregnancy troupe. Especially when the two main characters aren’t the parents and marriage type. Bleh! Still written well although there were a few typos and moments where it was skipped ahead and I have to go back and read again thinking I blanked out.

What. A. Book!!

Absolutely loved this next part in their story, with a few unexpected twists it really kept my attention! Wasn’t sure how it could get any better than the last book but it blew all expectations!

10/10 recommend this so highly!

All the loves

Delta and Kross are two of a kind. Through growth, life, and setbacks they push through to be at each others sides. Charisse Spiers has written a love that we all dream about, but rarely see.

I couldn’t but it down. no more words needed than that

Absolutely just as good as book 1 and 2 in the series. Thank you for a great book I’m so glad that I gave your books a shot!

This series is so good!

I love this author more and more with evet book I read. Kross and Delta and Lux and Kaston are two couples I can't get enough of! I would love to read more about them and especially Cale and Remington and Chevy!!
