Heartbreak And Past Mistakes

Rate this book
It takes a strong heart to love but it takes an even stronger heart to continue loving after it’s been broken. Lyric Carter found that out the hard way more than once. After having two failed relationships that ended in heartache, Lyric had all but given up on Cupid’s arrow. Deciding to casually date for a while, things seemed to be looking up for her romantically. When Javier Livingston entered the picture, he appeared to be heaven sent. He seemed to be all that she was looking for and more. Lyric quickly learned that devils wore fancy suits and drove nice cars too. Leaving the dope game was always something that Deuce had planned to do. The untimely death of his father made the decision for him sooner than he thought. Abandoning his life in the streets would have been easier had his wife, Zina, been on board with him. Life in the fast lane was all that Zina knew and she was having a hard time adjusting to her husband’s new stance. Her unwillingness to change puts a strain on their marriage and causes conflict in their home. Zina and Deuce seem to be going in different directions and it’s almost impossible for them to get on the same path. Lies are told, secrets are revealed and no one is who they allege to be. Worlds collide and lives are destroyed irrevocably. Can Deuce and his wife mend a marriage that seems to be continuously torn apart? Will Lyric find the love that has eluded her for so long or will she continue to be haunted by heartbreak and past mistakes?

Love don't come easy!

Lyric was having a hard time in the relationship department and although she had Javier, he was her little secret! When Bronx comes along he rocks her world and nothing is the same anymore. A good read just it started off a little slow but the plot picked up! Both mama's were a mess, the grandma's were full of wisdom and poor Ms. Mary! The saying still holds true watch who you trust, keep your friends/family close but your enemies/family closer and watch them snakes! I loved how Bronx loved her and she was definitely spoiled! In usual Chenell fashion it was so many funny parts, some sad parts and the fight scenes were hilarious. There were grammatical errors along the way but I enjoyed reading this one and look forward to the next as always!

Good, but long and drawn out. At one point it was predictable and I was waiting for the events to happen.

Interesting

This was a slow boring read yet very entertaining and calming at the same time, if that makes sense.. Lyric with her so called friends betrayal tugged at my heart then she started and latched on all my nerves with her petty, childish and very stupid ass antics, only to make me forgive her and hope she gained some sense back.. as much as I want yo be mad at what's his name.... what is this fool's name?? Omg.. oh.. bronx/deuce..yeah as much as I wanted to dislike him for what he did.. the f@#k S$%T that Javier and Spencer did overshadowed his dirt and made him redeemable.. as far as Jena... yea.. that was a bit much.. I went from hating her hateful ass to feeling bad for her.. like how you felt about diamond from players club cousin coming to stay, ended up having sex with diamonds man, then getting played then raped and beating.. you glad she got her played but sad she got raped and almost kilt.. yea .. like that. Was glad Spencer did her dirty and worse but was sad he tried to kill that girl ..this was a crazy read.. slow, low key boring but interesting all at the same time.

Awesome!!

Another good read from Chenell Parker. The storyline is consistent and her point was very well received. If you're looking for that story to help relax your mind and make you laugh, this is the book for you. Many times we need to examine our Heartbreaks and Past Mistakes in order to move forward in life. All mistakes are not bad. Sometimes we have to go through bad things to get to the positives. Five stars Chenell Parker. A classic thriller and sure page turner.

I just stop

The book dragged to the point where I couldn’t finish. I like & disliked Lyric. She got on my nerves half way thru. The mess at the office she played was petty & dangerous with both men working there. I already knew Bronx was Deuce that was predictable. I already had figured out he was gone open up one door with one woman without closing the door on his marriage then turn out to be made a saint. I’m sorry this book wasn’t for me.

Hummm.... There is always room for a bad one

So, I have started reading MS. Parker, truthfully I have been binge reading her books and this was the first one that I don't really like. The writing was perfect, no mistakes, no errors, no grammatical errors but it was so bland, so dull and downright very boring not to say the least...it took me 3 full days to be able to finish this story😡😡😡😡
Deuce/Bronx, man how confusing was that... This was so annoying when it was finally revealed that getting back into the groove of liking him was not happening...
Lyric, wow, can a heroine be so bad? She was spoiled, entitled, dismissing of everyone, childish, no compassion at all, and the only good thing was that she was strong, but the ball stopped there...
This story was just so out of the left side, and so not what I expected, it did not make sense at all... Lyric was getting on my damn nerve because supposedly she was hurt, but man get out of here, she bought it all on her, spoiled little girl. And Deuce/Bronx needed to man up already...
Truthfully this deserved a 1 star or not even a purchased receipt but since I have been reading MS. Parker's and she has been doing it good, and since the writing was literally flawless, I upgraded it to a 2, but I wouldn't have gone further than that.

Heartbreak and Past Mistakes

Lyric was so busy holding onto the past that she almost lost out on a good thing. Bronx was definitely persistent but I wasn't even surprise that he was hiding anything after his hiatus. I was shocked about just how connected he was to someone in Lyric's circle. Jena was too pressed behind someone who didn't want her. I swear Spencer was a waste because instead of handling his responsibilities the right way he took part in the unthinkable. Everything revealed about him proved just how worthless he was as a man. Javier was a whole bitch. Dude really was annoying and it was crazy how far he was willing to go to destroy others lives. On everything, Ms. Mary was a straight g! I understood her reasoning behind her actions but I wished things would've turned out better for her son. Zina lost her good thing and it was her own fault how things played out. Bronx lost a few points with me but he definitely redeemed himself. No he didn't start things with Lyric the right way but what they built proved just why heartbreak and past mistakes shouldn't be a deciding factor in who you love. Chenell didn't disappoint at all.

Nope!

This book painted Lyric out to be strong, independent, and very mature. I saw all evidence to the contrary.

No mature woman's let's a man give her head just to let his girlfriend know that she can get to her man at any time.

They only painted her out to be strong because she continued on with her life after she kept continuing to pick psychopaths for boyfriends.

And even after everything she's been through with men, it didn't give her a clear sign that maybe she shouldn't have a baby with the dude that has a WIFE?!?

Deuce or Bronx or whatever his name is, used the same excuse that every other man uses when they cheat on their wife; " I'm no longer in love with her so it doesn't matter. "

I continue to read this book all the way up until they met at outback and she told him about the pregnancy. That whole encounter between them let me know that she was going to end up back with him and the author was going to paint this dude out to be a hero in the end and I just did not want to stomach anymore of this crap.

DNF!!!

I don’t know how you do it girl but every time I pick up one of your books I can’t stop turning the pages. I swear I can be in a complete funk but as soon as you drop a book I’m on it. This is the first book I’ve read in the new year and I enjoyed every page of it. Of course I had to read 8 pages per percentage (but I’m not complaining). I have a bad habit of spoiling the book when I do my reviews so I’ll keep it short and sweet, I’m glad Karma came back on Javier (his bald headed mammy/ Chester the molester) and Spencer. Jena was a bitch from hell but she didn’t deserve what happened to her a good ass whooping with Sanai would’ve sufficed. I love Lyric and Bronx I’m glad Brooklyn is going to make her a grand entrance soon but I’m the meantime my prayers are with them with Ace. Per usual I enjoyed this book. Keep up the great penmanship Ms. Parker, love you 😘

Excellent

Chenel is a true master of the craft. I enjoy all her books. This one was excellent. First, it was a long book which I love because the author can develop the characters allowing the reader to understand their motives. The storyline was realistic. No grammar issues. I have recently read so many books were it doesn’t flow but never that with Mrs. Parker’s books. I loved the triangle of Zine/Deuce/Lyric. It was easy to understand why the plot unfolded like it did. I had compassion for Jena even though she did her friend dirty. What Spenser did was awful but people do crazy stuff like that to avoid their responsibilities and I am glad he got what he deserved. I enjoyed all the side characters in this book, they each added so much value to the story. I can’t wait to read another book by Mrs. Parks!

Second time around reading this
Deuce/ Bronx was the man ok

Lyric really did have rough with the guys she chose Nerd who slept with Jade
Spencer used to be friend then killed his own child 😳🥺 ...
Oh and Javier he was the worst and His mom got her nerves to be talking about somebody when you and your entire family 😉 was criminals....

Lyric once night change her life saving Paisley
Now her boss not Treat's her like family he's now Godfather of Lyric and Bronx son !!!!

Sabrina was dumb you don't leave one job before you get another one...

Nova got her happiness
Kerria is about to get married

Even Zina sitting down somewhere it's about time she grew up leave the dope boys alone took her going to jail though should've been did that but you like what you like....

Something to think about

This was a good read. I understood where Lyric was coming from with her concerns with falling in love, and it almost caused her to lose real love. Bronx fooled me in the beginning, but I had a feeling he was Deuce also. With them, everything happened for a reason. When I was reading and got to the part about what Spencer did, I screamed because when it happened, I knew in my heart him and his women had something to do with it. It's sad Jena lost her baby in the end. Zina WHOLE mindset was crazy but it took three tries and 3 different baby daddies to get it right. The ending with Ace had me dying laughing because I could just imagine how much of a handful he is.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Boy! This book was a crazy mess. First of all, Lyric was crazy and had me dying. The way she talked to Javier mom in that bathroom...booooy that took me out🤣🤣 Javier was annoying and honestly I felt he got what he deserved 🤷🏾‍♀️ Jena was stupid for how she did Lyric, but she got her karma, it was sad though. I couldn’t believe Spencer did what he did, it definitely wasn’t that serious. I loved how close Lyric was to her family. Zina was a hot mess and I just didn’t understand her way of thinking. I looooooved me some Bronx, even though he handled things the wrong way. He was perfect for Lyric. Glad everyone got their happy ending.

Whew Chile!!!

This was really good. Full of drama, happy times and heartbreak. Spencer and Javier have to be the worst type of men. Like dude your time is up go away. Lyric is no saint she didn't make things easier by being petty at the office. Bronx and Duece, I was not prepared for that. I was even more intrigued after that part. In every which or way everyone paid for their actions throughout. I enjoyed the comic relief, and the few gems that were dropped. Melody had to be my all time favorite especially each time she dropped a number on her labor time. This was a really long thick read and all 50 chapters rolled smooth into the next one.

Ok! Never have I never rated a Chenell Parker book so low. She has a formula to her books, Alpha male, strong woman, they hook-up, haters try to stop them, the woman become pregnant, they live happily ever after. Seem bland, but the writing hooks you, pages turn, and before you know it, book is over. This book, Deuce was not likable. He did some things that made me lose respect for him as a man. Lyric was too spoiled and whiny. I enjoyed the storyline around the supporting cast, way better than the storyline concerning Deuce and Lyric. Hopefully, my next Chenell Parker book gives me that wow factor I’m use to.

Drama filled

Being kind, helping others, and treating people right are good traits to possess and Lyric has them in bounds. However, she learns the hard way how it can sometimes feel like a curse, especially when betrayal, jealousy, and lies occur from those closest to her. Bronx shows when a man is fed up, and he handles it in the wrong way. But by the time secrets are revealed, love has settled on him and Lyric and it doesn't let go. This book is drama filled and a true page turner. I will happily recommend this book to others.

Listen... this lady can do no wrong! Every book Chenell drops, each word written... every page... she proves why she’s on top! This book was unlike any other book she’s written. Lyric was a no nonsenses type and she wasn’t settling for anything! In the beginning, Jena surprised me! So did Javier. Their true colors were a shocker but Ms Mary’s actions rendered me speechless!!!! I was soooo happy Bronx and Lyric made things work. Although their encounter was completely shocking, they turned out to be a wonderful match. This was another lengthy 5 Star read

Double identity

Another great one!! Let me just start off with get they whole name and a nickname. Lyric could have easily been heartbroken for the rest of her life if Bronx was on some sneaky stuff. Javier is the spawn off Satan and Spencer is the mvp for worst baby daddy ever. Everyone needs to run into a Mr. Malone every once in a while. This was a really long dedicated story that took you all the way through the life of Lyric and it was a happy ever after. Also let me not forget Melody is "that momma" don't play with my child and she was in labor for days!! Lol.

Excellent!!!!

Chenell Parker has done it again!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 This book was so good from start to finish. Lyric and Bronx aka Deuce have a great relationship until she finds out his big secret. Spencer was crazy for real. Javier was a jerk. Jena.. I don't get how a woman can be so jealous of her friend but she got her karma. Zina was to old to not wanna do better in her marriage but I'm glad she realized it in the end. I like Nova & Jared together.
All in all I was happy about the ending.
I love me some Bornx and Mr Malone!!! ❤️

Words cannot express

This book was super dope and amazing and Chenell has definitely done it again with another bestseller and banger... I loved all the characters because they were essential to each other throughout the storyline... so much drama unfolded and I felt sorry for Jena because she felt Karma in the worst way as well as Javier but I loved Deuce and Lyric even though he was shady for how he went about ending one relationship before jumpstarting another... Definitely a 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Read at its best

So good!

This book was so good. I enjoyed every word from the first to the last. It was nice to read a full standalone that kept me so thoroughly entertained. Melody was hilarious. Both she and Lenard loved the heck out of Lyric. Lyric was a fire cracker but had the biggest heart. I loved the way she was vicious with her mouth when facing her enemies. Her relationship with the Malone’s was refreshing and well deserved. I was thrown for so many loops but the biggest was Bronx! Man! I am happy with the outcome. Karma definitely found its way in this one!

I liked the book, but wasn't a fan of Lyric. She was spoiled to the "nth" degree. It appears that she could "walk on water." Men fell to her feet and I mean literally. They would do Anything, and I mean A-ny-thing for her. Most things came easy for her, especially her absolutely fabulous job. I would LOVE to have her job. Take off when you want to, come in when you want to, and get a big fat check and a promotion. I had more respect for the other ladies because they recognized their insecurities and dealt with them in the end. Lyric ultimately did also but not before she drove Deuce crazy.

Learned from my mistakes

Listen I can’t pick what the highlights were in the book. Never a disappointment and the standalone are just to die for. Lyric & Bronx from the beginning were just a cute couple. All the obstacles that Lyric went though is definitely a test of time. Her momma Melody was it for me she didn’t play no games on her baby, her daddy just went with it because he started off in the dog 🏡. Now when it got tough I’m glad they stuck it out and stayed together. Ace is definitely my next kid he just did whatever 🤦🏾‍♀️🤣🤣

Yess. Chenell did her thang. I really enjoyed this book. At first I was like lawd this long but I read it in 2 days. How can I leave a review without giving up the whole story? Love Lyric although she was so trusting of people I still loved her. She had been through some bad relationships but she finally got it right. Jena ugh!! She did Lyric so wrong but Karma came back and popped that tail. Zena was crazy she had a good man but wanted a d-boy but Karma got her right also. Spencer and Javier man o man did Karma do them the best!!

Chenell Never Disappoints!!!!

When I came across Heartbreaks and Past Mistakes I wiggled in my seat! Chenell is one of my favorite modern day authors. I have read a lot of authors books when I was a teenager, but as an adult it’s so much different. She is the only author where I have read all of her novels. Your story telling is impeccable and you always leave me in awe. I also must say reading your books give me hope that one day the love I desire will find its way to me. Peace and Love 💕

Heartbreak and Past Mistakes

I really enjoyed this book!!! I loved how things transitioned and how when Lyric came up it was Bronx we knew and with Zina it was Deuce. They were two different people going thru different things in life at each time. The way the characters all knew each other was crazy and made the city sooo small. There wasn't anything complex about this story but loved the knowledge that was dropped and the things to make you think. Karma is real!!!! Love Lil Ace for sure!!!

Mmmhhmm

Great read. Love the character growth in Lyric. Even though it took a while for her to wake up and get it together, glad that Bronx was patient with her and helped to open her eyes. Zinda, Javier, Spencer, Michelle, and Jenna were a hot mess. Glad that they were all taken care of in one way or another. Nova and Jared are great together. Another amazing job Chenell Parker.

Yesssss A Good Read A Great Author

I have almost read all of this author books and I’m never disappointed. I love the characters in the book and that Lyric and Bronx was the perfect match. Karma hit funny when u least expect it. I just wish Javier could see the actual pain he caused with his psychotic self. I try not too be a spoiler but if u looking for a good read....read this and the other books this author wrote you can’t go wrong.

Obsessed much..yes I am!

I am obsessed with this authors storytelling. Listennnn...Lyrics mama, Melody, had me ctfu! That lady was hilarious! I mean...she had jokes for days. Every time she told the story of how many hours she was in labor, the number kept increasing. I swear Deuce/Bronx is bae! Just my type of a little hood, a little educated with swag for days. I wanted to throat punch Javier, Jena and Shanai. I am obsessed with these books written by Ms.Chenell
