Many of the book bloggers have praised "Kaalkoot" and I was fascinated by the readership that attracted it has attracted. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a review copy of the book. Well, we were not disappointed as we had our hands full of other books. Last month when we got Kindle Unlimited, we started with our longlist wishlist of books, Kaalkoot was in top position and we read it in the first month of our KU. Yes, it is not a review read but rather a choice read.

I am not sure which part of the plot should I give as any of them can be a spoiler. To give my reader crux, I can say that the Indian Intelligence force (anti-conspiracy group) came to know multiple underground warlords/dictators/ganglords were visited in India. So ACG asked one of their best resources, Damini, to chase the trail, she is one of the protagonists of the story. On another side somewhere in Kolkata, a professor received a call from a guy who just returned from Himalayan Trek. This professor along with his friend are looking for a long lost treasure (hidden by a mysterious person a few decades back). Multiple assassinations and kidnapping happened in a short time, which had brought another protagonist, Sam, whose girlfriend was also kidnapped. Will these two protagonists able to find out how things were linked? Check out the book to know more about what is Kaalkoot and a hidden secret.

The plot design is just great, starting from the first page to the last page I was in a rollercoaster of thrill, suspense & excitement. The tempo of the pace & excitement was not gone down even for a moment. I just gulped down the book in 3 days (I was damn busy in those 3 days still got time). If I had been traveling or got free time, I would have finished it in half a day. The language used is easy to follow and good for most of the age group. Linking of clues, plots & characters were fantastic. Though few bits here and there, it was a complete combo of delight. I recommend this book to every action/thriller reader. Timing in climax and results were somewhat ambiguous but I cannot discuss here.

Kaalkoot.
~
Received this copy in exchange of an honest review.
~
When I read the plot of this book, I wasn't so sure that I'd like it but to my surprise, I did. Biochemical weapons, secret agents, professors and a common man, turned out to be a perfect recipe for a gripping read. I had trouble concentrating initially but as I read along, I couldn't put it down. Kaalkoot is an example of how Indian authors are exploring difficult concepts and delivering them with ease.
~
The story dates back to 1940 when Manohar Rai, an Indian solider uncovers a secret so powerful about the government that his life is put at risk. He knows that the clock is ticking and his life is slipping away so he confides his secret to a young man. All traces of the man and the secret disappears into thin air. Years later, a professor by name Bhabani Bhattacharya finds a scroll that leads him to the secret and he spends years of his life researching about it.
~
The story focuses on a biochemical weapon named after the greatest mythological entity called Kaalkoot which was swallowed by Lord Shiva. A bad guy by name Mastero and Doc rediscovers the poison and intends on using it to kill tens of thousands of people. Prof Bani accompanied by a secret agent Damini tries to stop them by finding the antidote that was initially discovered by Manohar. An ordinary man called Sameer gets dragged into the picture when his girlfriend goes missing which is linked to the operation.
~
The book is fast-paced and filled with twists and turns, anticipation of what's coming next keeps you going. The characters are well constructed and the plot in itself was quite unique. The author's flair for writing is splendid and the story unfolded like a breeze. I, however, felt that the ending could have been a bit better. It felt little disconnected from the story but that was the only flaw that I came across. If you're looking for your next thriller which is easy to comprehend then this is the one for you.

Rating - 4/5.

Revolving around a mythical poison that was unearthed during the Samudra Manthan, the churning of the cosmic ocean, Kaalkoot is a fast-paced thriller which keeps you hooked to it right from page one.

The book focuses on a guy Sam who chases his missing girlfriend and comes in contact with a secret agent. Thereafter, as he unveils the many dark truths pertaining to some biochemical weapon which has the potential to unleash destruction all over the world, his life is turned upside down. Would he be able to reach the antidote of the destructive Kaalkoot? Would he be able to prove himself?

The book has a power punch start and instantly crawls into your veins. You feel the adrenaline rush as you proceed on a thrilling journey. The mystery behind the cryptic substance piques your interest and you want to know how it would intertwine itself with the storyline. After all the swift movements directed towards the unraveling of the secret, one is sure to finish it in a seating. The language is fantastic and so are the expressions. The character development is on point and distinctive. The research by the author behind developing this book is visible and is really a good point to be noted. From connecting history to the contemporary, the author has portrayed this mythical substance really well. I liked the character of the agent Damini who is strong though quick to suspect. The transition between different timelines is smooth and comprehensible.

What I felt lacking was the impact of an ending. Towards the end, I found the book losing its spell on me. Otherwise, this book proves to be a really nice read for someone who likes to dwell upon mystery and thrilling stuff.

Starting from the cover of the book is very fascinating with an image of Himalayas, a road towards it and a shiny figure. It shows the hint of the story coming ahead. Title of the book is perfect, as the whole story revolves around the KAALKOOT. The title ‘KAALKOOT’ and the blurb of the book give a gateway into the story and create a sensation about kaalkoot. It’s makes you to pick the book and start reading with a cold coffee.
Kaalkoot- the Lost Himalayan Secret, is no less than a thriller with lots of moments when you are shocked and on the edge.

The story starts with Steve who is secretly passing messages to Professor Bhabani Bhattacharya, who is working on a mission. On the other hand, Damini, a secret agent is on duty and chasing a suspect. The third story in the line is about Sam, who is love but fears commitment. One night his girlfriend Ananaya goes aloof, which creates a fear to lose her. All the characters of the story end up in Goa, where they all meet and get to know that how directly and indirectly they are interelated to each other. They team up to work together on one mission. As they get ahead together, a situation comes where they come to know that Maestro, the villian is planning the mass destruction against many countries and one of them is Delhi, India.
Kaalkoot is designated as the weapon but it has an antidote too.
But what is kaalkoot and what can be the density of the destruction? Will the professor, the cop and a boyfriend will be able to stop this threat against the world? Or they will lose themselves forever? Can kaalkoot be stopped or people will have to lose their lives? Grab your Kaalkoot copy now and unveil the trek to mountains, where history has the answers.

Sneak Peek Front The Book-
We become what we repeatedly do -Damini

The verse-
The secret shall be revealed only to the worthy heir,
That person alone, of the supreme faith, courage, stillness and compassion,
Shall be able to conquer the Agonies,
And prevent the Kaalkoot from striking again.

The Book is divided into parts, then chapters and then into some heading. That much segregation was not required. Somewhere it was breaking the flow, but the ending part is happy and with a perfect logic, that’s the best part in the book. Characters of the story are very well presented, written and knitted with each other.

Language of the book is simple but loaded with some technical words. The technical terms used as per the demand of the story and the characters. Not much fancy words, some are there but they make sense. It’s easy to understand the jargons for a fresher too. The words and vocabulary makes the story more interesting and edgy.

I’ll recommend this book is for all kind of readers. Be it any age, genre or any pro and fresher. It has a small pinch of history which still keeps it interesting. So don’t wait, get your copy now.
Be a reader first, now and always!!!

Kaalkoot, by S. Venkatesh, is a fast-paced thriller that spans across the reader’s mind with its the highly tantalizing fictional plot spread like a buffet with multiple distinct timelines going simultaneously. It has a pleasant concoction of ancient mythological references, delicately placed in the world saturated with the contemporary aura. The author has his own distinctive and intriguing way of playing with the words which comfortably drown the reader into the vast sea of KaalKoot.

It is told from the perspective of various characters, whose lives get entangled, due to situations popping up because of an incoming, highly devastating catastrophe. The whole episode, which will occur, will, at last, decide the fate of mankind.

Kaalkoot is believed to be the poison which was fed to Lord Krishna in his childhood by the Giantess Putna.

Kaalkoot is believed to be the poison which came out as a result of Samudra Manthan (when the ocean of milk was churned by the Deities and the Demons together), which Lord Shiva then kept in his throat. It was so powerful that it turned his throat blue and also gave him the name, “NeelKanth”.

A poison, hibernating for so many millenniums, is now going to be unleashed to the mankind, and only a handful of people know of its existence. In the wrong hands, this can lead to a great catastrophe, even resulting in the World War. The consequences of the strategies and decisions will decide the conclusion.

The book, in fact, spans only a few days, with intricately carved scenes with utmost prudence, making the reader tempt for more, successfully entangling him/her into the vast fictional world. Fast paced and catchy, this book brings together mythology, history and science together in a highly convincing manner making the reader crave for more with every solitary page turn.

This book guarantees uninterrupted intrigue and attention of the reader. It successfully managed to convince and intrigue me to dive into the vast world of KaalKoot, making it a memorable read for me.

Mysteries, murders, gunfights, special intelligence agents from all over the world. These leave no stones unturned in making ‘Kaalkoot’ a thriller.

Overall, I would recommend it to the die-hard fans of Sci-fi, Thriller and Fiction. With a little crisp toward thriller, this book had highly fascinating sprinkles of miscellaneous other genres, making it a lovely read for all.
Eagerly waiting for Agnibaan (The Sequel).

Kaalkoot is a high-octane thriller. The readers who likes reading thrillers with chase. twists and turns will like it. The chase is fast and furious. This is a mythological cum historical thriller which starts in 1940s in Uttarakhand.

The story starts in Uttarakhand where Manohar Rai a soldier is killed by Britishers. He has found a deadly secret. Then the story comes to present day. Steve Watson came from Himalayan hills and found out a secret. He is tracked by goons and almost killed but saved by a Goan. The goan tells his friend Bani in Kolkata and ask him to come to Goa. Damini is an Indian agent who is high on chase of a North Korean agent. She also loses him and goes to Goa. Sam aka Sameer girlfriend Ananya goes missing and he gets a hint that she might be in Goa. All these people reach goa and then the story moves forward at a rapid pace.

The story is about Kaalkoot which a deadly poison. It is said to be come out during Samundra Manthan along with the Amrit (Nectar). This is equivalent of modern day biological weapon. These people have to find out and stop this before it is too late.

The story runs at many levels initially and then all these merges in Goa. Then the story moves to mountains of Himalaya. The pacing is good. The scenes are short and changes quickly. Some scenes are only one para long. But there is no problem in understanding the story and connecting the dots.

The relentless pace kept me glued to the book. I liked the book very much and recommend it to every reader.

KAALKOOT title was bit unique for me and then i researched about it and found that 'black mass' or 'time puzzle' is the name of a poison (as per Hindu mythology) created from the sea when Devas (Deities) and Asuras (Demons) churned it (see Samudra manthan) in order to obtain Amrita, the nectar of immortality.
Simple we can say an organic weapon.

Cover of the book is very catchy and vibrant and having important elements about the plot.
Story is a combination of mythological and historical fiction based in 1940's in Uttrakhand where an Indian soldier Manohar Rai is killed by Britishers and many for secrets are there with a couple of thrilling and adventurous elements like organic weapons , kidnapping , death threats , secret agency and murder. Sam is the protagonist of our story who lost his girlfriend and on the way to find her he found a lot of hidden and adventurous facts and secrets. Very cinematic plot with a commendable narration. Narration , plot , characters and perfect punctuation are the main highlights of the book. Beauty and adventure of Himalayas add another interesting flavour to the entire journey. Story can be felt while reading. Fast pace , plot is inspired by hindu mythology and scientific facts. Plot is very story , even this is very perfect for such thicker book.
A perfect work of fiction where you can enjoy the complete adventures and mysterious thrill beyond the imagination.

Language is very simple and you can feel the story like a motion picture while reading.
KAALKOOT is a book which has an ability to trap/indulge the readers completely into it.

A bunch of professors, during their research, unearth the long forgotten and hidden in Himalayas secret of a deadly biological weapon able to cause mass destruction if falls into wrong hands.
A crazy, self- proclaimed maestro aka Doc is all out to carry out demo of the weapon to make his presence felt on international platform in a big way.
An anti-conspiracy group is trying to find out the reason behind sudden presence and movement of many felonious faces in the city. Damini is assigned the task to find out the hidden agenda behind all these movements.
Sam, a dissatisfied banker, gets involved in all the mess while trying to trace out her kidnapped girlfriend.
Does the unlawful Doc able to carry out his demo successfully? Does ACG succeed to stop him? Does Sam finally find his girlfriend Ananya? Answer to all these questions lie in KaalKoot.
THE COVER of the book carries a picture of Himalayas and a car leading to it in rains, symbolising the journey to unearth the truth hidden there. An image of four rings with a halo gives a mystic look to the cover, indicating the lethality and potential of the weapon. The cover is eye catching and forces you to pick up the book.
THE TITLE Kaalkoot, synonym of Halahal- the deadly poison is best suited for the book. It points towards an impending danger.
THE BLURB is concise but crisp and piques reader's interest.
THE NARRATION, from prologue to epilogue, is fast pacing, thrilling and keeps you at the edge. The subplots and the way they develop make this book captivating.
THE CHARACTERS are eloquently crafted. The author has developed them so amazingly that they come alive with the story. One can visualise ,easily, the agility and sharpness of Damini, cold sinisterness of Doc radiating through his eyes and eccentricity of Prof Bhabani through author's words.
THE LANGUAGE is effective and impressive, indicating authors command and control over words.
Overall the book is a fast paced mystery thriller, able to keep you over the edge of your seat.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 star. It is a treat for the lovers of this genre and is certainly worth the time and effort.

Kaalkoot - The Lost Himalayan Secret by S. Venkatesh is a power-packed thriller full of action, adventure, a mystery waiting to be solved and splashes of Indian history and mythology executed expertly. The story started in 1944 where a freedom fighter appoints a guy to safeguard the secret of Himalayas which can be used to wipe out humans off the earth - Kaalkoot. Latet, in 2018, two Indian scientists are trying to find this said secret. But it's not long when the unknown powerful enemy gets the gist of Kaalkoot and wants it for mass destruction and he will stop at nothing. He has already started to create havoc and is leaving a trail of dead bodies behind. Somewhere in between, Anti-Conspiracy Group's (ACG) super agent Damini and a commoner Sam found themselves right in the middle of this chaos and unintentionally gets involved in finding Kaalkoot.

Review:
•A wonderfully written and engrossing mystery, holding the readers in, right from page one.
•The plot is brilliant, keeps readers involved with one aspect revealed at a time and story is well paced. There was no dull moment in the entire book.
•The book is divided into 5 parts, where first three are the introduction of characters and plot and remaining are for carrying out the mystery. A well planned book!
•Language is easy to comprehend. The bio weapon part was clearly very well researched by the author.
•Characters are strong, sophisticated, well placed and timely introduced. Inspite being two-three stories running parallel to each other, there was absolutely no confusion.
•Loved the blend of mystery, thriller, mythology and sci-fi.
•Looking forward to Agnibaan - Guardians of the Fire Chamber

I won this book in a giveaway a few months ago. The blurb was really interesting and i couldn't control my excitement when I got a chance to read this. It was also like a breath of fresh air to read a thriller written by an Indian author.

The story begins at the height of World War II, when an Indian fighter Manohar Rai discovered a frightening conspiracy by a rogue British community known as the "Imperial guards" who intended to destroy the subcontinent with a natural biochemical weapon, before the colonisers left the country for good.

Fearing of getting caught and killed, he thrust the secrets of the biochemical weapon and its antidote on a young man and send him into hiding until every member of the Imperial guards were long dead.

After 70 years, the story unfolds once again when a professor from Calcutta, Bhabani Bhattacharya, discovers a scroll which contained verses describing the location of a hidden cave in the Himalayas which most possibly was the secret cave where the young man went into hiding. Unbeknownst to him, an international group of terrorists also wanted to get their hands on the primordial biochemical weapon, Kaalkoot, to carry out their evil plans which was aptly named after the poison that was churned out of the cosmic ocean in Indian mythology. A poison which had the potential to destroy the entire world.

Meanwhile, the Indian intelligent agency were worried too, after members of various international mafia gangs, dictatorships and terrorist organizations showed up in India in just over a month. Damini, their top agent was assigned to the case. On the way, a regular man, Sameer, also got dragged into the mess after his girlfriend went missing.

The fates of Bhabani, Sameer and Damini were interwoven and so were the fates of probably millions of other Indians whose lives depended on them.

Reading it was like riding a roller coaster of thrill and mystery, where one didn't know what is after the next curve. It is a nerve-racking tale spanning over a period of 4 days. Each page tend to throw a cliffhanger at the reader so much so that I wasn't able to put down the book. The characters are written very well and the story flows smoothly. It is quick paced which is what one desires in a thriller.

I recommend it to everyone who likes reading mystery and thrillers. This book won't disappoint you.

Kaalkoot the name of book is itself fascinating and what's more fascinating is it's about historical treasure hunting . And I am a big fan of that genre that's why I choose to read this book after reading it's blurb .

What I am going to tell is most conceding factor that my friend name is also vani who is studying history and when I read it I remember her suddenly.

The author uses his imagination and made this book a fast fun and terrific read for its reader .

When I am reading this novel a movie name came to my mind whose concept is something similar like it but even though me being a sucker for this genre I want it to be a bollywood movie .

Now coming back to book and what's it about ?
Kaalkoot is about a deadly weapon which is lost in history but it's map is hidden somewhere until a person found it and started to unveil its secret what made this book intresting is villain Mastero who want this weapon to rule the world .

Language is simple easy to understand , plot is very entertaining and character background and narration is also Good.

I didn't expected this book to come out to be  such an amazing thriller. I was thrilled after finishing it. This book has all the ability to hook you up from the very beginning till the end.
It's a fast paced story with a lots of twists and turns. There're things like kidnapping, murder, death threats, secret agents, bioweapons, antidotes. All these things makes the story more thrilling and adventurous.
The writing style is really commandable. You will be able to visualise the story. Crisp narration and lucid language made it easy to read.
Once you start reading this book you can never put down without finishing it. The most amazing part of the story is the last part. It's like a breathtaking part that'll make you think what will happen next.
Overall it was a great read for me. I love reading thrillers. So, yeah, I'll definitely recommend this book to everyone who love reading thrillers or suspense novels.

it's a mixture of Mythology, Crime Thrill and History. Set back in 1944 the pre-independent India. The story is about a biochemical weapon Kalkoot the one swallowed by Load Vishnu during the Sagar manthan but that Chemical is still having some secrets hidden somewhere. One of the men find out the substances to made it again. While Bani a professor and 2 more agents (will not revlive there name) are trying to make a antidote by finding out the real biochemical. There are alot of other characters but it is always best to not give too much spoilers specialy for crime thrills.

Though i just like the book. It's perfect of the readers who are new to crime thrill or are yet to start it. You can start with this book. It will keep you hooked. I appreciat the hardwork of the author he did a great work though. The concept was new defintly. A whole new story yes a perfect read for new crime thrill readers.

A few Indian professors find out about a mystery, hidden Himalayan secret which has the ability to destroy the world is wrong people find out about it.
Sam, who is looking for his girlfriend somehow gets involved in a situation which leads him to the secret. I will not speak more about the story..

Hard to write a review without revealing sections of the plot, as it builds up slowly. There is a threat of mass destruction, and only an ancient secret, tucked away in annals of time, that can possibly subvert this. An eccentric professor and his colleagues have stumbled upon this, and they are on the cross hairs of a dangerous group with deep pockets, that shall stop at nothing till they have their way. Will there be salvation. Or is earth ready for a cleanse, after all mankind has rapidly expanded without any limits and has no thought for tomorrow. Will the deadly Kaalkoot rear it's fangs and purge the earth? Read on, it's one hell of a book and you just can't put it down.

The title was really intriguing and is apt for the story. The plot of the book is very engaging. The book is a fast paced thriller and I loved this thing about the book. I started reading this book and after few chapters , I realised I couldn’t put it back. Absolute page turner from the start to the end. There were lots of nail biting twists and turns. The anticipation of what will happen next keeps you going. Language is easy to understand. The characters are well crafted. Overall, a nail biting thriller with lots of twists and turns.

Genre - Thriller

Let me tell you what Kaalkoot is. According to indian mythology Kaalkoot is the poison that came out in the time of Samudramanthan . It was very power and lord Shiva took it into his throat. It turned him into blue and that is why he is called Neel kantha .

The term Kaalkoot is also very relevant to this book too. Here , Kaalkoot is also one poison which is powerful enough to destroy the mankind . But none really knows about it . It's a deep secret .
So the title is appropriate .

The book is based on different time line such as Pre-independence India , world war ,Modern era .

This book is divided into small chapters . The chapters are full with historical and mythological references which I think has made the book slow paced and the plot extra dragged .

The language is lucid .

I love the cover. It is eye-catching.

A fatal poison that was mentioned in India Mythology plays an important role in India's Freedom Struggle. The same becomes a part of a gruesome plot to decimate human beings.

The plot has several subplots. Sam sets out to find his unprofessed lover who is entangled inside a dark secret that has been under wraps for over a century. In another part of the the world Damini is heading the investigation about a demo that is supposed to happen in Goa. When their paths intersperse horrendous secrets are unearthed.

The book is brimful of suspense. Right from the beginning, the book keeps on triggering intrigue of the readers. The book is an in and out cliffhanger that has more suspense than any contemporary books. Author has tried to connect the mythology with the current affairs but the connection failed to establish with conviction. Nonetheless, author has accomplished the prime purpose of the book, which is entertaining.

The book's pace quite fast and each instance happens immediately after the other that the readers get to hang on to their book till it is finished. However the pace drops drastically once Sam is on the run. After a few pages it becomes monotonous and gains the momentum back once Sam meets Damini.

Overall, if you are looking for a nail biting suspense with action, you will be excited to get hold of this book.

The story dates back to 1942 when freedom fighter Manohar rai comes across a very dark secret - imperial guard's plan to destroy iconic symbols of Indian civilization and to unleash mass destruction in case they found kaalkoot. He has to take a decision one that could mean life or death for millions of people. His only hope is a young man called yogyaveer who has extraordinary capabilities who knew about kaalkoot and also knew its antidote. In order to prevent it from falling into wrong hands he goes into hiding with a meaningful quantity of antidote with him, at a place where no human can penetrate. A hidden cave.

2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣8️⃣- Coming to the present - KAALKOOT WILL STRIKE AGAIN. The only hope for survival lies in a hidden cave.
Professor bani from Kolkata has got hold of a scroll which contained the secret and also some verses which could lead him to that hidden cave. Steve watson had founded some clues to crack the verses and was to share the same with prof bani. Someone is tracking down steve and bani and wants to kill them to get hold of the secret.
Another character Damini is an agent with ACG who is to keep a track on north korean agent ji-hoon kim.
Professor bavdekar an expert on Himalayan plant and animal is also secretly researching on bio weapons.
Sameer is in search of his girlfriend Ananya who gets kidnapped.
And somehow all the characters get involved in all this.

Who will stop kaalkoot and how? Will the hidden cave be found?

My Experience - Right from the start the book is captivating. The language is simple and easy to understand. The details were tantalizing and the book kept me turning pages late into the night.I loved how page after page the suspense gets revealed. The ending part was tensest and nail biting and i was totally lost in it.I am overwhelmed with how the author have woven a story around the deadly poison kaalkoot. Altogether an excellent read.

Cover is beautiful. It has been designed well. Title is apt & does in accordance with the story in hand. Theme comprises of kidnapping, murder, darkness, extortion, threats, warfare, destruction, gunfights, artificial intelligence, special intelligence agents which makes this book worth reading.

Ever since I grew up, I've been fascinated with the mythological stories from hindu mythology. As they not only teach us about life, but the knowledge & wisdom gained from it is immense & immeasurable greatly. Most of them know about the story of Mahadev & the prophesied Neelkanth, who becomes the saviour of planet earth for time immemorial.

However, very few including me were oblivious to the name of the poison which emerged as a byproduct in the process of creating the universe. Kaalkoot - deadliest of all poisons emerged from Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean via a tug of war between devtas & danavs) & was apparently taken care by Lord Shiva (God of trinity) by keeping it in his throat, however, it was so powerful that it even turned his throat blue & since that day he also came to be known as Neelkanth. The samudra manthan (Sanskrit: समुद्रमन्थन, aka churning of the ocean) is one of the best-known episodes in the Hindu philosophy narrated in the Bhagavata Purana, in the Mahabharata & in the Vishnu Purana. The samudra manthana explains the origin of amrita, the nectar of immortality.

Now the same poison is suspected of bringing total annihilation & destruction of mankind. A poison which was forgotten in the vestiges of time & buried in the pages of history, for millennials - now on the threat of being misused. It may bring upon the total eradication of all lifeforms from earth. Only few are aware about it's existence & the calamity it may bring if misused. And they've the responsibility to stop it, even if it costs sacrificing their own precious lives in this process. Language is good. Narration is okay.

Novel is fast paced. Lots of action scenes has been blended together with thrilling twists & turns. It may seem to a typical historical fiction or mythological novel at the start just from the name of the title. However, if you ask me it's more than that. It packs a punch of thriller as well. An interesting read. Plot & story can be understood from the blurb, so I won't extrapolate any further. Characterisation is good. Especially the roles played by Sam, Damini & Professor Bani, with the excruciating task entrusted upon them to accomplish the impossible when the whole world is turned against them. What is going to happen? Will humanity face its impending doom at last?
Read the book to find out more about it.

A person who is into mystery, thriller will absolutely love this book and even the mytho lovers won't be disappointed. Combination of Amazing pace, concept, characters and well written story.
Kaalkoot is believed to be the poison that was fed to little krishna by giantess Putna. Why Lord shivas is called Neelkanth you will get to know. The time line is nicely narrated taking us back in the time till present. The story keeps you hooked more and more as you get going into the book. But the ending could have been written a bit slower according to me. Expecting the sequel to also be interesting like this one. Confused between 3.5 or 3.75

Kaalkoot The Lost Himalayan Secret by S. Venkatesh

I finish this book then, my heart pounds and my mind disoriented. After reaching the end of the story, closing the pages for the last time, and remembering the few passages written out in short, it's all like slowly surfacing from the depths of another world, and you're back home in reality, not quite sure you want to be there. Once I started the book, I couldn't put it down. I loved the plot.

Characterization: -

A beautifully written story with many undertones to it. Wonderful characterization of all the characters I felt not just Sam, Prof. Bani, or Damini, even the periphery characters all had their time on the page. The characters are respectful, their dialogues are polished, and there's not a hint of any major mischief in the plot. Wonderfully scripted throughout.

Kaalkoot:

The title notwithstanding, this book could also be called "Outland" (That would make it sound scary as Kaalkoot meaning will be…… Kaalkoot is the strongest poison in the world. It was used by Putna, while feeding baby krishna, by smearing Kaalkoot on her teats and also one more story about Kaalkoot is Lord Shiva drank it, but He kept it in His throat only, didn't swallow it therefore His neck became blue and after that He was called as Neelkanth), the surname of the young man at the literal center of the book, Yogyaveer (As called by Prof.Bani) a young man who through not much fault of his own has influenced the lives of all the characters, for good or for bad. A spy novel, it is well paced and combines the right amount of operational planning and action. The mole was not overly obvious, and I only figured out who it was a chapter before it was revealed

The Plot: -

Prof.Bani is interested in old manuscripts and sculptures that represents Indian civilization back from the Vedic times. His research shows a young man gone in to hiding and preserved the scripts during 1944 when his guru Manohar Rai was shot dead. Manohar Rai functioned from a hideout (Uttarakhand). Manohar got to know of a plan by the Imperial Guard to ‘destroy India before the Empire leaves. The Imperial Gods actual plan was to destroy iconic signs of India civilization, - which includes - manuscripts, sculptures and painting which is giving historical significance. Through long years research Prof. Bani has scribbled a book titled “Kaalkoot”. He narrates the importance of the book with his friend. Someone is behind Prof.Bani , they chase him, threatens him, and the thriller starts from here. Prof Bani is in run for his life along with his friends. All of them are in danger. Prof.Bani passing information to one of his aides at Mumbai. It is too late. Within hours someone hijacks his friend and his sub-ordinate. Prof.Bani got a call and an unnamed person invites him to Goa. Prof.Bani has no othergo as his friend’s life is in threat. He is headed to Goa.

Secret Agent Damini is in action as ACG gets an information about a most wanted person a Korean named Ji-hoon Kim is in Mumbai. She is chasing him, but the Korean guy slips out and she gets an information that he is headed to Goa.

Along with Prof.Banis friend Sameer’s girlfriend also goes missing. He is getting an information that the miscreants escaped to Goa with his girlfriend. Sameer’s life is in danger as he is having a deadly information …This information leads him in to a big trap….

Damini and Sameer decrypted the Pen drive…The information shocks them….The Kaalkoot is about to strike again….will they able to resolve the mystery ….

Over all :-

The writing is earnest, the plot is just almost charmingly straightforward. Imbued with beautifully written prose, precision in structure, smooth flow, the powerful and controlled narrative and the different yet interesting characters, the story was quite engaging, thrilling. I found all aspects in the novel - writing, characters and the story line to be in perfect harmony,Spy novel fans, computer buffs, mystery lovers, and anyone who likes a plot with lots of twists and well-developed characters will love this one. Five stars. The ending made me want to stand up and cheer.

it’s a book that I’d highly suggest to fans of bit historical fiction, crime, spy and thriller readers alike. The Irregular merges together actual events and real-life persons with fictional characters and story-line to form an origin story for the secret service. Added together these aspects make for a rip-roaring page-turner of a book and a rollicking good read.

This is one book that made me regret my decision. No I did not mean it in a way that I regretted choosing the book. The book’s initial part did not make me glue to it. I read the book taking frequent breaks, but once the plot began racy, the breaks were gone far off and you wouldn’t believe starting I completed the book from part II till the end in one stretch. Such gripping and intriguing was the narration. It made me think what was next or who is next?

The story starts with an introduction to Manohar Rai who keeps a certain information a secret from the government. The story dates back to in the 1940s. But when he suspects that the secret would be sneaked out, he decides to confide it within a youngster. And then there was no information about what was confided and who the youngster was.

Professor Bani and few others are into research about this, gather so much information and a lot of background studies, come to know that the secret that was confided or a weapon that could have possibly been used in the past is to be put in use in the current future. HE along with Professor Hudson, Bavedkar and Steve are aware of it. There is an opponent group headed by Maestro or Doc as he is called; who rediscovered the weapon and is planning an attack with it, to make these professors come out with the secret.

The story starts with a series of disappearances, murders. Sameer is on the verge of losing his relationship with Ananya. This is when she is kidnapped, because she helped out Professor Bavedkar. Sameer tracks the clues left behind and has unknowingly put himself into the quest of solving the mystery of the weapon or “Kaalkoot’ as it’s been known widely.

Damini an agent with ACG, an investigative agency heads this operation guided by her chief. She along with Sameer set out on a journey of mysterious findings from a flashback being told by Professor Bani.  Professor Bani, saddened by the sudden disappearance of Bavedkar and demise of Steve, is forced to talk about the ancient history of Kaalkoot.

Together when they plan to set out to rediscover the secrets that the youngster left, Damini is demoted and is cleared from handling the case. But she offers all help to Sameer to accomplish the task.

The British on knowing that the Japanese coming into power might also take over India, plan to destroy the evergreen lands to rubble. And to do this, they used a weapon. People are killed, leaving no evidence of existence. In order to save the richest of literature and artifacts of our nation, the youngster travelled the length and breadth of country and gathered them and secretly hid them in a place that nobody knows. The place also holds another secret, which I am not about to give out and will leave it for you to find out when you read the book.

After much struggles, does Sameer find out the secret hideout, does he discover the treasures of the nation? Does he reunite with Ananya? What happens to Damini and the opponent maestro is the rest of the story.

Though the book starts in slow pace, it gains momentum at the right place. The editing was perfect. I really appreciate the narration style of the author, not giving up the entire secret at one go and making your eagerness drop. Chapter by chapter, the need to find out increases which makes it an interesting need.

The book is divided into parts and in turn into chapters. The chapters also include simultaneous narrations from various scenes, which gives you a complete picture on what is happening is a reaction to the action in one scene.

A well thought out plot, executed perfectly.

Book :- Kaalkoot

Author :- S. Venkatesh

Publisher :- TreeShade Books Publishers

My ratings :- ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Blurb :-

January 1944 - Holed up in a Himalayan hideout, freedom fighter Manohar Rai has to take a chilling decision – one that could mean life or death for millions of people. His only hope is a mysterious young man, who goes into hiding hours before Manohar is shot dead in cold blood.

June 2018 - A forgotten legend from the upper reaches of the Himalayas is rearing its ominous head. The world will be brought to its knees. KaalKoot will strike again.

Only three people have a clue about the horrors that are about the unfold. The only hope for survival lies buried deep in the remotest corner of Himalayas. But a terrible fate awaits those who seek it. Is it already too late? Is KaalKoot – the primordial plague – unstoppable?

My review :-

Historical thrillers which take you on a hunt for a long forgotten secrets of the history and unraveling them in the most suspense filled narrative is a very commonly found genre these days. But hardly few of them touch you the way Kaalkoot does. As the author mentioned in the blurb - The Kaalkoot strikes. Not the deadliest of all the poisons, but the amazingly written book.

The book Kaalkoot has a wonderful and colourful cover page which is a first good thing about the book which certainly doesn't miss catching your glance and the title does even better to hold you on to it. Perfectly suited title and cover with a combination of excellent writing style which has been in a joyous rides every now and then makes you not to put the book down at all. The writing is excellent and simple and easily comprehended for the ease of it.

The story is about a long forgotten historical secret carried on through years by a highly capable person and kept a secret to be revealed only by a worthy heir when the time arises. The protagonist Sam lost his girlfriend and on the journey of finding her gets to know about this long kept secret and finds out about the evil gang having the intentions of bringing the world down on its feet looking out for the same secret. Sam goes on pursuit of the secret, aided by an ACG agent Damini and also tailed by a notorious gang of criminals. Will be he able to find the secret enduring all the obstacles on his path is what the story is about..

The highlight of the story is its narration. The entire story is narrated in a cinematic style with events happening at multiple places being covered at once and giving an interesting connections to each of them makes it an absolute page turner. The story is gripping and takes you on an adventurous ride to Himalayan region and the mysterious cave.

The drawback of the book is that it gives out the secret midway and takes out all the curiosity in the story and the story becomes just an adventurous journey henceforth which could have been avoided. Also it would have been better if it had an exciting climax which falls short of the expectations in the present version.

Overall it's an amazing book and a must read for everyone. And especially for those who are into the genre of historical treasure hunt, what are you waiting for ???

Book Name - Kaalkoot
Writer - S.Venkatesh
Edition - Paperback

Summary -: The Book Kaalkoot is a thrilling combination of sci-fi & Mythology. The 1st part is set in the era before Independence in year 1944 in Uttrakhand, where we get to know about Manohar Rai an Indian soldier who have found a powerful/deadly secret but was killed by the Britishers. Before dying he already had shared the secret with a person who escaped while this happened. Up next in story we came back in present day where we meet our protagonist Sameer who has lost his girlfriend and he went on a journey to save her. He travelled in the Himalayan mountains & somehow found out the secret which was long kept hidden from the world. On the other hand Professor Bani & some other researcher have finally decoded the serect after collecting lots of information throughout these years. But soon he along with other professor found out about the goons and they were chased by them.
And the rest of the story tells us how they rediscovered the secret of Kaalkoot with the help of clues deep hidden.

Things I Liked -:
1. The story is the most powerful weapon of this book. It has all the elements which a reader wanted to read in a book. Except that it's a combination of stuff like Mystery, Thriller, Sci-fi, mythology, Suspense, Etc which really make this book unique & impressive. The journey discussed in this book is like what we get to read from a high class writers like Dam Brown, John Grisham, etc. No doubt this book can be adapted into a movie or a series on the basis of it's strong story.
2. The characters are the 2nd best thing of this book. Although There are many characters in the book but still they all gonna impress you a lot, as they are developed & written in a way that they meet the standard of what we as a reader always want. The characters are full of energy and adventures which will also energize us. Also every character has its own importance in the book. It's not like a person which was discussed in the 1st page don't have any story in the rest story after having so many characters.
3. The Narration is also good as I was clueless throughout the book, which make me more excited + the Narration have also fantasized me throughout.
4. The language & writing style was also simple & smooth. I had no problem while u was reading the story. But at some places I got some hard words but those were easy to guess with the situation going on in the story. so it was ok for me.

Things I didn't liked -:
1. The book was slow paced for me. I was really hoping to finish it ASAP in the middle of the book as I felt like story got stuck somewhere although i kept up my pace as the story was gripping which made me to finish it.

Verdict - Overall this is must read book. You are big going to find any other unique book like this. From the story to it's character everything is good in this book. And it also have many ups & downs in the story which will also loved by many readers it suitable for everyone and Will worth your time.
Definitely Recommend.
