Book Two of a Thrilling Trilogy Mysteries and secrets continue in this twisted romantic series...
New school, new friends, new boyfriend, Heather Reiner's life has finally become somewhat normal. Normal, that is, for a girl who possesses abilities to see visions. What could go wrong?
Corruption. Extortion. Lies.
Secrets and half-truths destroy relationships. As each truth reveals itself, Heather finds herself with the worst betrayal yet—her own Deception.
Kimberly Readnour lives in the Midwest with her husband and a very snuggly cat.
Having a true passion for romance and HEAs, she took the leap from the young adult genre to romance and never looked back.
Unexpected Love, book two of the Unforeseen Destiny Series, is a #1 Amazon Kindle bestseller in the Medical Romance. Her series, the Bad Boys Redemption, has spent many weeks on Amazon's sports fiction bestseller list.
Kimberly worked as a Registered Nurse for fifteen years before hanging up her stethoscope. When she isn't running her own business, you can find her tucked away writing.
In Deceptions, the sequel to Visions, Heather uncovers a political scandal, a drug ring, and a secret of her boyfriend's which she'd much rather forget about. She discovers these things all while trying to find a missing teenager!
The story is action packed and full of scandal, and at times Heather wants to throw in the towel. She's never liked her gift of clairvoyance and this latest reveal has her sobbing in her room for most of the second half of the book.
I'll be honest- she mopes a lot. I didn't know whether I wanted to reach into the book and hug her or slap her.
But one thing I did like more in this sequel is the increased amount of dialogue. We were in Heather's head for the most part of the first book, but in this one we see more events happen as they happen as opposed to being told what happened.
I didn't like Heather as much as I liked her in the first one, but she was still an okay character.
This was an okay read, but I didn't enjoy it as much as book one. There were times where I felt slightly bored, and it just couldn't hold my interest as well as the first one did unfortunately.
I really enjoyed this sequel to Visions. Once again, the heroine's psychic abilities are the crux of the story. Even though this book's main storyline dealt with more political intrigue than the child-in-danger theme of the first, it as just as gripping. The characters were well-developed and I started to feel a real connection with them in this book. Readnour did a very good job of dealing with the dramatic ups and downs of teenage romance (I know from my own writing that it's harder than you might think!) without making that the entire focus of the book. The characters and the storylines are very believable (once you buy in to the main premise of psychic abilities - which I am completely willing to do!). I liked the sub-thread embedded in this story that gave the heroine's single mom a bit of romance of her own. And the cliff-hanger ending definitely left me wanting to read the next installment in this series.
**** I read this book some time ago and forget to list it here on Goodreads. (On an additional note: This Lady can write!)
This is a very good continuation from this author's first book in the series: Visions. The reader finds Heather(heroine, of sorts) getting her life together and dealing with ESP.
Her boyfriend seems strong enough to hold her up and to support her. Her mom, not so much.
However, troubles await that would try anyone. Heather is working with the Police putting her ESP to work for the positive, but hold on to your shorts Heather. Life just got real!
Another brilliant read, and a good second book, poor life for Heather is non stop, and this book brings more craziness into her life. Once again it's well written and I really love the characters and the progression of the story... need book 3!
There’s so much going on in this book! I absolutely loved it.
After everything that happened in Visions, we go into this book expecting Heather to finally be able to have a semi-normal life. She has friends that know about her clairvoyance and a boyfriend that can deal with the oddness that goes along with it. Her relationship with her mom is on its way to being fixed and she now has a purpose- she’s helping the police by using her visions to see what people are up to.
So that’s how she ends up in Detective Tanners car, searching for Nicholas- a college kid who has gone missing. This time her visions aren’t only about him. He’s involved with much bigger players in town and there will be consequences. Never have Heather’s visions put her in this much danger and never before have they broken her heart. Can the people in her life handle her ability when it involves them or the people they love? How will Heather react when they hit closer to home? The answers to these questions will surprise you and the twist at the end will leave you wanting more.
I liked the first book in the series, Visions, but I absolutely loved this one. There’s enough drama to get your heart pounding and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. While I’m not a big fan on Barry- I find him overly clingy and kind of a jerk sometimes- I’m really enjoying seeing the development of Heather as she becomes this strong force. The visions are hard for her but she handles them and their consequences with a grace that surprises and delights the reader. I admire her.
Anyone who had any interest in the prequel Visions is going to love this book. It is definitely worthy of your time and I for one, can’t wait for the third book!
In Visions, I was introduced to the character of Heather Reiner, a vulnerable but brave teenage girl with the power of clairvoyance. Using this gift, and with the help of her friends, she is able to overcome her fears and help the local authorities crack the ten-year-old unsolved homicide of a young boy.
In Deceptions, Heather's story continues as she is brought in to help locate a young man who has gone missing. But in doing so, Heather is drawn into a web of intrigue that involves drugs, payoffs and local government corruption. And bringing this matter to a successful may end up driving a wedge between her and Barry, the boy she loves.
Kimberly Readnour does a great job of building the tension as the story goes, but we never forget that at the center of the story is a fragile girl who sees her gift as both a blessing and a curse, complete with typical teenage neuroses and hormones. We feel every hurt that Heather feels, and we rejoice when she turns her fears into triumphs.
Deceptions is the second book in The Mystical Encounters series and picks up right where Visions left off. Heather has visions but has been accepted by boyfriend Barry and friends Nicole, Caleb and others. Life is good but of course when you are clairvoyant that won't last. Unfortunately the next series of visions that Heather has involves corruption and extortion which leads to lies. Heather is working with Detective Tanner and while trying to solve this case must keep secrets from Barry with heartbreaking results.I read this in one sitting as I got caught up immediately in the story and couldn't put it down. Highly recommend this book and the series to anyone who enjoys a great paranormal mystery. Well done Kimberly Readnour. Really stoked to read the next book.
I loved the character of Heather in Visions. She was a withdrawn, shy girl with no friends and hard to get to know. All because of her gift/curse of clairvoyance. In this book, Deceptions, Heather's character has grown so much. She is more confident. She has friends and a boyfriend not turned off by her gift. All seems well for once in her life. Until she helps the police with another case and she becomes involved in the seedy underbelly of drugs and corruption. Readnour's writing seems to have grown by leaps and bounds. This book is full of suspense, heartache, and twists that will keep you hooked right to the end. The writing is fast paced and never loses your interest. A really great story. 5 out of 5 shiny stars. Looking forward to the next in the series :)
Deceptions is book 2 of the Mystical Encounter Series. It picks up right where book 1 left us at and continues with the story and the same gang of people. The visions gets more intense and costly in this installment though. We have heartbreak, new love, deception (obviously), and forgiveness. The emotions in this book are everywhere and oh boy does Kimberly Readnour make sure that you feel every single one of them as well! I can't count how many times my eyes teared up or my heart was pounding with nervous energy. Things do work out, some in surprising ways and others the way that I hoped they would. Of course, there's a huge kicker as well that has me starting book 3 immediately!! 5 STARS
So I read this book after I read Visions and I was so happy to read this book and excited! I learned that I I fact do love the Kindle app not as much as my iPad, but that's besides the point...isn't it.
I love Barry and Heather together and while they go through such pain and agony I think that it made this story believable.
For me this series excuse me ;-) trilogy could go on and on and I wouldn't get tired of it. This was such a great great book, kept me entertained from page one!
Girl with the power to see visions helps out the police to solve crimes and find missing people. There's more to it, but I don't want to spoil the book for you. Keeps your attention and the characters are great
Good, entertaining sequel, kept me wanting to move on to the next chapter! Finished this one in a day! Who cares about house work? Grocery shopping? It was a stay in leave me alone with my book and tea kind of day! Good twist!
The author did a great job taking her writing to the next level with this installment. The relationship between the two teens, our heroine and her boyfriend, matures, bringing with it deeper emotional challenges for both. Learning to balance co-dependence with independence for one. Not to mention figuring out how to ride out the even wilder emotional roller-coaster ride that teen hormones send one on when amplified ever further by love.
But the two teens also walk into increasing danger in this installment as our heroine’s psychic abilities become more public and are put in the service of the police. The psychic impressions drawing her into a new mystery in the sequel draw her towards political scandal and highly connected people who are far more dangerous still than some deranged killer that we encountered in the first novel. Here is calculated, cold, cunning evil that plots many moves ahead and so can do much more damage than a psychopath acting impulsively. As if that weren’t danger enough.
Our heroine continues to juggle an impossible number of balls in the air. First, there’s life at high school, which is emotionally trying on a good day, far less when you’re a “freak” by normal people’s standards. And the religious nut jobs in town are up in arms against anyone with her psychic abilities, branding her a witch, and making it impossible for her to go anywhere in public. Then there are all the secrets and lies she’s got to juggle with various adults and fellow teens at high school, none of whom know the entire truth about her. In short, she’s trying to juggle danger, the supernatural, high school drama, relationship issues, one too many secrets from one too many people, all filtered through teen hormonal amplifiers. But that’s what makes YA lit so much fun, at least when it’s handled as ably as this.
Did not live up to the first book. I can't stress enough how much missing words kill the story when reading a book, and this book was riddled with them. At times I was irritated by the misuse of words and the excessive descriptions and the conflict was meager at best. I won't be reading the third book.
For my clean readers: Includes excessive language, drug use, inappropriate scenes, and mild violence.
