A journey without end. A woman with no shame. Down that road lies only pain.
Haunted by the unsolved disappearance of his wife Sarah, PI Evan Buckley loses himself in other people’s problems. But when Sarah’s scheming and treacherous friend Carly shows up promising new information, the past and present collide violently for Evan as he goes head-to-head with cold-blooded killers to track down the enigmatic Dixie for her.
He knows he can’t trust her, but he hasn’t got a choice when she confesses what she’s done, leaving Sarah prey to a vicious gang with Old Testament ideas about crime and punishment.
To make things worse Dixie’s brother Jackson, a man with a grievance in his heart and a home-made garrotte in his hands, takes an unhealthy interest in Evan’s exploits as the case goes from frying pan to fire in short order.
When Sarah’s old friend Carly resurfaces asking Evan to help her, he wasn’t sure he wanted to know why. When he reluctantly agreed to meet her, she showed him a photo of something he thought he recognized. Could it be possible?? When she tells him that she needs to find someone, she doesn’t give him a complete explanation as to why, but just that she needs to find him.
Soon Evan finds himself in the middle of another game of cat and mouse, someone chasing him, while he’s chasing them. When he asked Guillory to look up some things for him, he finds out that she’s been suspended for hitting a pedophile while interrogating him, she was that disgusted by the man that she could no longer control herself.
When Dixie, the man Carly wanted Evan to find, turns up dead, immediately after meeting with Evan at Evan’s office, the cops find Evan’s fingerprints on the bullet casings, believing Evan was the guilty party. Therefore the cops are now in search of Evan as well. When Evan’s worst favorite cop, Ryder, gets wind of the whole situation, he tells Kate she’d better be careful, due to the fact she may be in the company of a killer.
Upon finding out who in fact is in the photo that Carly shared with Evan, he and Guillory stumble into an already invaded home of Carly’s best friend. It’s been ransacked by whom they don’t know but someone they do suspect. What they find is even worse than they expected.
When Evan thinks he’s figured out where to find something else of interest to Carly that he’s looking for, he drives the two of them to a warehouse and has Guillory wait in the car while he goes inside. He doesn’t expect what’s coming and outside, Guillory takes off in pursuit when she sees the pedophile driving down the road, leaving Evan stranded. It doesn’t take long for the pedophile to lose Guillory, and when she returns to find Evan, he’s been strangled with a garrote, barely able to breathe. Later, the two of them are found by the goons of the man in search of Carly and his 3 million dollars that she’d stolen and they’re taken back to the head boss. The boss has no idea that Guillory is a cop or that Evan is a private detective, yet. Soon the Evan and Kate are separated for insurance purposes for the money, but unfortunately for the bad guys, they aren’t able to get possession of it.
Once again, James Harper, another awesome Evan Buckley thriller!! Though we still have no idea what’s happened to Evan’s wife Sarah, there’s always a chance that Mr. Harper will give us another fast paced, heart pounding book that WILL spill! Way to go James!
Kindle Unlimited Private Investigator Evan Buckley is STILL seeking Sarah, with the help of friends and enemies alike. And some of them collect public taxes in a weekly paycheck. Kate is always on his side. Carly - Evan's not so sure about that. Well, he's pretty sure she's on the side of the devils. Can Evan get out of this one? Will he get his information? You will need to read the book to find out. Strap in boys and girls.....your in for a bumpy ride! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Rip Roaring, Tail Chasing By All....Criminals and Good Guys
I wrote a great review, touched the screen and Kindle deleted. Once again...This is an amazing novel full of good/bad guys with or without morals. Trying to keep track becomes hazardous at times. And Evan Buckley is part Timex watch and Energizer Bunny. He gets more takedowns than a month of nightly wrestling...yet he seems to rebound quickly unlike the bodies or people that litter the chapters. As the author stated, there is a twist at the end....where it leads who knows. Good read. Any mispellings or weird spacing is Kindle...if I try to fix, it deletes the review. Maybe better when warmer. Get a large cup of coffee, snuggle under covers and read.
HUNTING . DIXIE. by James Harper Evan seeing Carly in the bar, it had been five years, and she’s trouble. It’s complicated, I want you to find somebody.she asks. For him, it’s because he is a soft touch, it’s dangerous., what trade could he want in return, no she’s trouble. I can help find Sarah. All you have to do is go to a certain bar and find Dixie, telling him she had a proposition for him. Was it that simple, no, it turned out to involve a lot of people, stolen goods, and a hunt. Evan did he get answers, and now realizing he needed to make some decisions. Good plot, liked how it flowed, drawing you in, from the begining. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest answer.
There was so much to unpack in this latest thriller. It felt like just as Evan solved one problem another reared it's head. It took a bit of piecing together for me and a couple of times I found myself a bit lost. As always though it all comes together and you finally get the whole picture.
Evan's ability to somehow always get involved with cases that could result in at the very lease some grieveous bodily harm to himself is in full swing in this book and he manages to pull poor Kate along with him.
Convinced by an old friend that she knows where he can find Sarah, Evan unwittingly gets involved with some very nasty people who will stop at nothing to get what they want.
In Hunting Dixie, we find Evan Buckley PI at the beck and call of a lying, scheming woman named Carly. She supposedly has information about the location of Evan’s wife, Sarah. All he has to do is find a man named Dixie. As with most of Evan’s assignments, trouble seems to be easier to find than Dixie. I really enjoyed reading Hunting Dixie. I found myself immersed in the story from the very first page. The characters seemed so real that I despised Carly and felt sorry for Evan. Hunting Dixie is fast moving novel with a complex storyline that contains several subplots within the main story
This sixth book in the series is full of suspense. I have no idea how poor Evan got through this fraught episode almost in one piece. In each book despite the way he gets treated he seems to get nicer and nicer. He becomes more endearing if that is possible. I don't know if I should call katie long suffering, hopeful or dare I say it living in cloud cuckoo land as far as her relationship with Evan goes. Only time will tell if her hopes and dreams will come true and if Evan will ever find out what happened to his wife.
I've read all of the "Evan Buckley" books and this was, by far, the best!!! I'm not giving anything away by letting you know Evan is still looking for evidence of what happened when his wife disappeared five years before. The introduction of new characters somehow involved in her disappearance has added a new dimension to his search for answers. I can only say that this book has whetted my appetite for the next. If this is what James Harper meant to do, he has certainly hit the mark.
Really enjoying this series of books about a PI, Evan Buckley, who rushes headlong from one dangerous situation into another - all the while on a quest to find out information about the disappearance of his wife several years previously. He is joined in his adventures with a cast of characters who assist him in his efforts to solve crimes and right wrongs. I do enjoy the authors use of statements of introspection/reflection by Evan which lead the reader onwards!
The only thing I regret about this book is having read it so quickly.
This is another action-filled story in which Evan is still trying to find out what really happened to his wife while he is involved in another twisty, very good plotted case.
Things don't get any easier for poor old Evan, but, boy these books sure get better. This is the best one yet of the Evan Buckley series. I really enjoyed this most of all. Too bad I read it all in 1 day.....and now I have to wait and wait.
Evan Buckley takes a job from Carly to find Dixie when she says she knows where his missing wife is. Evan cannot pass up the opportunity to see if she really has information on his wife, so he takes the job. A lot of action and twists in this action thriller.
I enjoyed all the books of Evan Buckley Crime Thrillers. I liked the characters and the way they enter acted with each other. I was hoping with this book Evan would have an ending to his search for his wife. Unfortunately he hasn’t come to a conclusion in his search.
This series is still an exciting and page turning one although I will take a break from it because the underlying reason for the series has not really moved forward one little bit. I guess I'm looking for a little closure.
Better than the last book in the series. Drags in some places and skips around but overall way better than book 5. I wish they would get on with the missing wife plot though it is getting monotonous.
It was almost like Hollywood Every time you turn the page Someone was getting beat up and then be able to stand up and walk how much can a person take?
