Afterlife, Interrupted: Helping Stuck Souls Cross Over—A Catholic Priest Explores the Interrupted Death Experience

Rate this book
Over the past 20 years, Nathan G. Castle, OP, has helped at least 250 “stuck souls” who died suddenly and traumatically adjust to the afterlife. Victims of fires, automobile accidents, shootings, stabbings and drownings come to him in his dreams seeking help to resolve their Interrupted Death Experiences.™ Father Nathan believes that providing such help is something the Holy Spirit has given him and his prayer partners to do. Although he is quick to point out that not everyone who dies suddenly gets stuck, in Afterlife, Interrupted Father Nathan addresses such questions •Is death survivable? •What does he do to help people cross over?•Does time exist in the afterlife?•Do deceased relatives help us adjust to moving through our deaths?

Great book sheds light on "purgatory" "cleansing"

I loved this book so much I've already read it twice. Each time I've gleaned something new.
Father Nathan explains his gift of receiving messages while he sleeps from people who have died a tragic, sudden death. Then while awake, with a prayer partner, here tries to speak with this soul and help them get "unstuck". (He even went back and asked permission to use their story in this book)

Even though the way some of the people/characters died seemed scary, there is always hope. The messages in this book are uplifting and eye-opening.

Even though I'm Christian I've found the idea of "Purgatory" confusing, but Fr Nathan's experiences with these stuck souls makes it seem less scary, and more like a time of "cleansing" to purge your soul of the muck you've clung to from your earthly life, that you don't need in your heavenly life.

Even a non-Christian would find the stories interesting. Not everyone he helps is Christian, so the book isn't preaching about the Catholic faith, but he does encourage people to pray in their own personal way and describes part of his own prayer life since he was a kid.

I would especially recommend this book for anyone interested in Near Death Experiences (NDE's). It adds a new perspective to the afterlife that NDE's explore.

I want to say more about this awesome book but don't want to give it all away. (There is a very interesting visit from Jesus that one stuck soul had; he had died in an embarrassing way and Jesus visited him to point out the similarities of their deaths.) Oops, I did it anyway...
Just read this book, it's entertaining and eye opening, and endearing.

Worth every minute

I read this volume fairly quickly, within a couple of days of buying it. The stories were so engrossing, and moreover I knew Father Nathan as the chaplain of the Newman Center of my university. Thus, I was particularly excited to "hear" his voice again and curious to learn about this topic. I found the book very welcoming to all audiences, and instructive as not only a peek into the world beyond the one we know, but as a kind of guide in how to live this current life in a way that will allow me to embrace the experience of death when it inevitably comes to me. Thanks for continuing to teach me, Father Nathan! Keep preaching! Father Pat in heaven, and all you holy men and women, pray for us.

IF this is true, this is one of the craziest things happening in the Church right now, absolutely mental.

Basically, this priest guy dialogues with souls in purgatory and helps them move on to the next stage of the afterlife. My main points of skepticism come from the stories not having secondary confirmation at the moment (even though he has said he thinks he will in the future), how he occasionally uses cringy phrases like "energy" or "the universe" and sometimes avoids Christian terminology.

Barring those things, I'm pretty convinced of at least some level of reality of his claims and the stories are pretty incredible and moving.

Compassionate creativity. Nathan and his prayer partners help those lost sheep who get stuck after they die. What stood out to me is how creative and respectful and compassionate these helpers are. One actually used algebra!

I honestly don’t know what to make of all this. My imagination has never pictured the afterlife like this. Fr. Nathan is so down to earth, sweet, and unassuming and
seems so devout and yet so pragmatic, I find myself trusting him. Amazing stuff if it’s true.

“Interrupted Death Experiences” – have you heard that phrase? In a small percentage of cases, people who die get “stuck” in a place which is neither here nor there. At the time of their death, they are greeted by deceased loved ones, but they choose not to travel with them. They choose to be alone in an in-between place. These souls have either had traumatic deaths, or something about their death embarrassed them and they didn’t want to interact with other souls because they were ashamed of their circumstances.

How do we know this? One way is by hearing from people who are aware of these stuck souls and help them cross to The Other Side. Nathan Castle is one of these people. He wrote a book entitled, “Afterlife Interrupted, Helping Stuck Souls Cross Over” (Fluid Creations, 2018). He also coined the term “Interrupted Death Experience” and used the word “stuck.”

When these souls might be ready to move forward, but don’t know how to do that, they come to Nathan in a dream. Later, while awake, he works with a (living) prayer partner to contact these souls and help them move forward. This generally involves having the souls ask for someone they trust to guide them forward.

In his book, Nathan recounts the stories of more than a dozen people who he has helped. Here are three examples:

1) One woman was raped, then murdered, and didn’t want anyone to know her story. She was too mortified to move forward.

2) One guy wasn’t ready to move on to Heaven, but knew his former wife would be dying soon and wanted to be able to greet her when she crossed. To do that, he would have to cross too.

3) One person made what he considered to be a stupid driving mistake which led to his death. He was too embarrassed to move on.

An added twist – Nathan Castle is a Catholic priest. The Catholic Church doesn’t generally support the concepts of psychic ability and contacting the dead, but Father Nathan explains why his work is consistent with Catholic doctrine. Nathan Castle, O.P., is a member of the Dominican Order.

After working with hundreds of souls, Nathan wanted to include some of them in his book. Months, or years, after working together, he contacted the souls a second time to ask permission to include their stories in the book. During these follow-up contacts, the souls often provided information about how their thoughts and lives had changed since moving to Heaven.

Nathan listed the take-aways from his work. Here are 10 of them:

1) Most souls go directly to Heaven. An interrupted death experience only happens in a small percentage of deaths.

2) All human beings survive their death.

3) No one dies alone. Each person has a guardian. Each person is greeted by loving helpers.

4) Souls are respected. They have choices.

5) Time is different after death.

6) There are many kinds of learning experiences on The Other Side.

7) The afterlife is a non-judgmental zone.

8) Souls have some kind of body which others recognize.

9) In the afterlife, souls can still check in on loved ones on Earth. Two-way communication is possible.

10) Souls can choose the guide who escorts them to the afterlife.

I enjoyed this book. I have spoken with several mystics who do mass clearings and help those left on battlefields to cross over. This book was a bit different because it presented individual cases in which the souls explained their personal reluctance to cross to The Other Side.

The book was also different because it was written by a Catholic priest. He spent time explaining Catholic ideas and why his work should be acceptable within his religion. He was kind of caught in-between his personal experience and Catholic ideology, but there was no denying personal experience.

Once you’ve experienced this kind of thing, there’s no turning back.

You can find this book online and in local libraries.

Childish ramblings of a priest who wants people to believe he helps souls, How? He doesn't explain how he does this. I guess it helps keep him clothed and fed by the Catholic Church. The Catholic dogma puts people into 2 forms of afterlife, heaven or hell. Purgatory is another form of punishment. I grew up in a Catholic convent school and saw firsthand the damage done to young people, and the indoctrination that we are sinners. Nathan Castle rejects multiple lives, past life literature was banned in the 16th century and removed from the Bible. How many lives have been destroyed by sex crimes against students perpetrated by Catholic priests. Priests and nuns have been convicted in courts of law. Nathan Castle offers nothing valuable, and doesn't even describe a personal experience with a Near death experience, or any kind of spiritual awakening. What is he drawing from? My reaction is that this author is trying to convince himself that he is "spiritual". How does this help or enlighten anyone?

Enjoyable Read

As a student of NDEs for many years I found Fr. Castle’s observations with IDEs (interrupted death experiences) to be very consistent with them, which I find encouraging. The only aspect I found myself skeptical of was the encounters with some of the famous figures. Other than this I carry much respect and admiration for Father Castle and his team for the work they are doing in helping “stuck souls” finish crossing over.

Non-fiction account of priest author's work with the friends/relatives of recently deceased
people. Sounds somewhat bizarre but it would be hard to refute the priest's accounts of contacts
with recently deceased people. Interesting read but, count me in with the skeptics. 3 stars

I first learned of Fr Nathan Castle’s book on the podcast The Angel Cooperative by Anna Raimondi. I found great solace in Fr Nathan’s stories because I experienced a traumatic death in my own family. The care and love these souls received gives all of us great hope. I was finally able to sleep through the night after reading Fr Nathan’s Afterlife book. Quick read with invaluable lessons for us all summarized in the epilogue but also sprinkled about the entire book.
