There is no chemistry whatsoever between the characters.
By that, I'm not referring to just the main characters. Every interaction in this book felt forced, like the author was trying to engineer a light-hearted atmosphere but didn't know how.
I get that she's trying to explore the beginnings of esport, when it was not yet popular and there were prejudices against it. But. First of all, she doesn't do it particularly well because the characters are so lacking in depth it's hard to sympathize with them. Second of all, it feels like she sacrifices plot and character development for the sake of this "message". If I wanted to read a case study, or a profile of an esport athlete, I'd flip through a magazine.
