Pihu: A Tale of Finding Meaning and happiness

Rate this book
What is happiness? Where can we find it? Is it in the innocent safety of our homes, or in the full exploration of our potential? Is it when we are alone, or when there are others around to share it with?
This book is a tale of Pihu, the peacock. Pihu was not just any peacock—he was special. He was the most beautiful dancer. Then how could he lead an ordinary life? Of what use would his talent be if it stayed hidden behind the forest greens?
He found someone who took him out from the innocent but stagnant comfort of the forest to the scintillating glory of the stage where he could showcase his potential, push himself and grow better each day. But soon these glorious lights became chains that entangled him. He was throttled with despair, unable to move. He then found someone who gave him the keys to open his shackles, dance freely and enjoy the stage, the growth and the glory.
Pihu learns what true happiness is and how he can find it and live it. This is his story, but it could very much be ours. May all of us find that happiness we seek.

Simple truths of life told in the most amazing way. Pihu by Smriti Khullar is a fable and as mentioned in the subtitle, a tale of finding meaning and happiness in life. A story in which a peacock, unknown to the riches of fame and appreciation, when introduced to the audience, gets so entangled in this whirlwind that he loses himself. Frustrated and dejected, when he returns home, he discovers that he is unable to find that peace, that sense of belonging, he once danced with, in the forest under the dark dense clouds. The droplets of rain which once filled him with happiness and soothed his soul, no longer have the same effect. He feels so lost, and then you realize that actually that person is you and the story is yours. This philosophical tale is a rejuvenating read. It tells what happens when having everything sometimes doesn’t complete you; you still long to fill in that void. You just wish to end the anxiety. But don’t lose hope and hang on to that cliff a little longer your Guru is just there.
The best thing about Pihu is that it is precise and not unnecessary lengthy. Every character is complete in itself. You read, you visualize, relate and sympathize with the character. You find hope and answers and maybe that is what the author aimed for.

A simple quick read that delivers a strong and important message that is relevant to everyone.
We all are looking for happiness, but the more we try, the more it seems to move away from us. Why is it so elusive and how can we find it- the book answers this question. It tells us what our scriptures have been saying, but in a simple and relevant way.
I recommend it as a must read.

A story straight from the serenity and forests of Himachal Pradesh, the state to which the author of Pihu, Smriti, belongs. Pihu , is a peacock who loves to dance. When it rains and the forest just comes alive with the freshness , he engulfs himself in that music and moves in rhythm to the rains. He doesn’t care for any acknowledgement or appreciation but is desirous only of the enjoyment he receives in dancing. Until Maya, a human, sees that soulful performance. She is stunned by the beauty and convinces Pihu to come to her world where she would be appreciated for her work. Vain due to this new emotion of praise, she moves on to become a star. Eventually the strain of competition and work takes a toll on her well being.
She had let go of everything in the search of her past , and that residential peace. How after we have reached so ahead in life, do we miss the beginnings? Why that pure emotion of excitement, feels like a mistake now. How to gather the broken pieces!
This booklet will be your mentor, a guiding light. Helping you to identify your mistakes and seek the path of happiness. Short and simple, carry it with you in those anxious times.

There were some teachings that I wanted to share with all. I started penning it down and it took the form of a short story.
The book is written to share the message of Nishkaam Karma in a way that is relevant to this day and age. Pihu's journey is our journey.
May we all find the happiness we are looking for!

A brilliant read.
Through the story of a peacock, the writer takes us through the ups and downs that we all have seen in our lives and points to a way out. The next and the difficult step - to act on it.

Nishkaam Karma - beautifully explained.
It's a small book and a quick, engaging story. You relate to the emotions of the central character through and through and that's what makes it stay.
It leaves you wanting for more- could have been a little longer, I would say.

Not just another run of the mill self help book. This one works at different levels. It is rational and practical, and if you are into spirituality, it is much more than that.
