Nests, Eggs, Birds: An Illustrated Aviary by Kelsey Oseid is exceptionally well written and organized. She provides a perfect introduction to ornithology for teenagers and adults. For children in elementary school, I recommend Look Up!: Bird-Watching in Your Own Backyard by Annette LeBlanc Cate.

There are three sections: nests, eggs and birds. While reading “nests”, you learn about materials used in nest building and different styles of nest construction. There is also a brief section on other species that build nests and the significance of nests in mythology. In “eggs”, you will learn the biology of egg formation and the variety of egg shapes, sizes and patterns. Finally, the “birds” section introduces many concepts in bird biology. The author discusses evolution, migration, mating, feathers, flight, and morphology. She introduces us to several groups of birds along the way. The conclusion includes helpful resources including; a glossary, index and list of resources (both print and digital) for learning more.

Throughout the book, whimsical and accurate art work reinforce biological concepts and add some fun! I highly recommend Nests, Eggs, Birds: An Illustrated Aviary for readers who want a solid foundation in ornithology.

I found this book on a display table at Barnes and Noble. It immediately appealed to me because of the colorful cover and design. It's an excellent hardcover book of facts with beautiful illustrations, perfect for homeschooling. My kids love reading facts about nature, especially something like this with things we can check out in person. This is a great addition to any bird lover's collection.

I’ve been a fan of Kelsey’s artwork after finding her Instagram a few years ago. I’m so happy that I finally got my hands on one of her books! The book is an easy read about birds (and nests and eggs), with beautiful and charming illustrations. It is honestly such a steal, too. Every page contains her detailed original paintings, and the book is over 100 pages. Favorite new coffee table book!

Fun facts accompany each essay making this book a joy to read for any bird lover, or anyone who is a novice birdwatcher, or is just curious and wants to learn more about these fascinating creatures.

I don’t know what I loved more - the facts or the illustrations! Kelsey is so talented. I read this book with Quinn which was the perfect balance because she was so engaged with the illustrations and I was able to read aloud words I don’t think I’ve ever spoken before. I have Kelsey’s whole collection to work through during nap story time - next up: Trees

This is a lovely picture book for teens/adults. Gorgeous illustrations, and whilst it is ultimately brief and broad in scope, still a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Would make a great gift bundled with the game Wingspan.
